Touchpad Arrow Turns to right click HELP

I normally use a Bluetooth mouse with my MacBook Pro but, for the last few days, when I use the touchpad the arrow will basically do a command on its own if the arrow or cursor is not moved after about 5 seconds or so. if i leave the arrow on a link in an email, for instance, it will open the link without my pressing anything. if the arrow is just left on the desktop it will open up a dialogue option (sorta like I have done a right-click). It does not do this when i use the mouse, only when I have moved the cursor or arrow with the touchpad. It is VERY annoying, and as it does stuff that i just don't want done! (I had a Dell computer that would do the same thing, and i was hoping i left this issue far behind!!)
Any advice? Anybody know what I am talking about? My explanation may not make sense. Thank you!

HI and welcome..
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Now launch Safari. If you can right click to create a new tab, move that .plist file to the Trash.
Also, try emptying the Safari cache more often, eithe from the Safari menu bar or Command + Option + E
And check Safari / Preferences - Tabs. Make sure your settings there are correct.
I see you are new to Apple Discussions. Please click *My Settings* right side of this window and tell us which Mac OS X (operating system) you have installed. That will create a forum profile for you which will help now and in the future if you need to post for help again. Thanks!

  • Activex property right click help

Let me try to explain my problem again with more detail. I need to right click on an ActiveX property node, an example "FormFields (Index)" a variant, to find out how the value is setup for a drop down box in MS Word 2007. Help for ActiveX does properties do not show up from the context menu, although the property is clear listed on the menu, "Help for Item",  the second string of properties from the left.
I discovered the "Item" is just a number that lists all Formfields in the Word document. Its used to select a Formfield but I was not able to bring up the simple help to inform me of the use.
Don't start ranting duplicate msg please.... An IE glitch prevented me from replying to post http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/activex-property-right-click-help/td-p/1283920 and page wound up creating a new posting....

    Hi Richjoh,
The reason that you are not seeing the help is because LabVIEW does not have the help files for Microsoft ActiveX properties.  LabVIEW includes the help files for LabVIEW properties, but not third party items.  In this case, it would be beneficial if that help menu was hidden.  If you think that this is something that that should be changed in LabVIEW, feel free to make your comments at www.ni.com/ideas.

  • Is there a way to turn on right clicking on my trackpad?

This is my first Mac and its driving me crazy that I can't right click. I know there's a way to turn right clicking on, but i can't remember how. Anybody know?

Go into System Preferences, Trackpad. It's all there. Under Secondary Click you can invoke right-click with three different gestures of your choice.
In total, OS X gives you many ways to right-click:
Turn on and configure secondary click in Trackpad preferences (two-finger click, bottom left corner click, bottom right corner click).
    Control-click.
Use a right-button mouse, or the secondary button on a stylus/trackball/external trackpad

  • Turning off right click on table in 6.1

I have an application in 6.1 where I use a table to display some results. If someone right clicks, they can do all kinds of things (like reinitialize, delete, etc.) that I don't like. Looked under property node but could not figure out how to turn off that ability. Any suggestions?

The above solution applies to the entire FP, so it is not very specific. You can also specifically disable right-clicks inside the table only by using a filtering event for the table: "mouse down?"
Just check if the button is two and discard the event in that case. See attached example.

  • How to click, when "right-click dominant" is turned on?

My sister is on a 17 hour train ride now with her new macbook with Leopard. She doesn't have a mouse/wacom tablet with her now. Without knowing the implications fully, she went into the mouse settings, and turned on "right-click dominant". Her computer only has one click button, which now brings up the mini-menu that comes up with a right-click. Control-click does the same thing. She is stuck. She can't get back into the preferences to unclick the setting, because she can't click.
Is there a way?? How to click, when "right-click dominant" is turned on?

I am not familiar with the term "right-click dominant". The mouse section of the System Preferences has a "primary mouse button left/right" setting, but that affects the mouse, not the track pad. I would try all the modifier keys (and combination of) I can think of to see if one switches the track pad click. If that fails, a restart (press the power button and return) might straighten it out.

  • Help how to disable right click of touchpad

I have been using my Lenovo X1 carbon for 4 months.  But the experience has been awful.
I don't know if my tackpad is defective or not.  Currently I am in the Philippines and there is no way to check or service my unit since they don't carry this model here.
My problem is when i tap the touch pad the right click button comes out 80% of the time.  This is really annoying.  I already disabled the right click to double finger tap.  But still even with one single tap on the middle of the touchpad the result is 80% of the time its like doing a right click.. Very annoying.
Please help me.  If this is touchpad is defective can anyone let me know so I will have this serviced in Dec. in the US.

  • Touchpad left and right clicks don't work on Yoga 2 pro

    Hi,
I just bought a a yoga 2 pro. After setting up, I found that the two bottom keys, left and right keys on the trackpad do not work. Double tap also doesn't work. I reinstall the touchpad driver to no avail. Other gestures on the touchpad work fine, single tap registers as left click, two finger scroll also works. Also, when I use a blue tooth mouse, left and right key works fine.
I am not sure if this is a hardware problem as when I swipe on the area of the two bottom keys, they register the movement. Just not click. Anyone can help me?

    Hello,
I've had a Yoga2 Pro now for six months or so.  Just recently the left click stopped working correctly.  What I notice is that when holding down the left click button on the touch pad, and I try to drag a slider (like a volume slider or to drag a selection box or to drag a scroll box on a page, or to highlight text) and it stops holding down the click.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it keeps stopping.
Now, the right click is malfunctioning as well.  I press right click on something like an image, and nothing happens.  I have to right click on something 2-10 times now for it to register that I'm right clicking.
Also, should I be able to tap the touchpad with two fingers and have that be a right click, or am I just reading that I should be able to do that on the screen (which  can)?
I have downloaded the drivers for the y2p touchpad and the y2-13 and the generic ones from the synaptics webpage, but before I uninstall my drivers and try to install those, I want to be sure that is the correct and only possible fix.  I'm hoping its not a hardware malfunction.  I am running Win 8.1.
    Thank you.

  • No right click with evantech touchpad

I have a Samsung QX410 with a ETPS/2 Elantech ETF1059 Click-Pad touchpad (as reported in Xorg.0.log). I'm getting this to work using the psmouse-evantech driver in the AUR, which allows me to use the standard synaptics tools to configure the touchpad. For the most part, this works. However, the touchpad has two major issues that I can't seem to find a way around.
This touchpad has the two mouse buttons built into the actual surface of the touchpad, apparently like how macbooks are now.  So, the touchable surface of the touchpad extends over the buttons, which makes it impossible to click on the left mouse button and drag to select text with another finger - the touchpad thinks it is a two-finger scroll touch and doesn't do anything. I tried moving the AreaBottomEdge property in synaptics so as not to include the bottom area with the buttons, but that didn't solve it. This makes it effectively impossible for me to turn off tap to click (which I hate), and still be able to use the trackpad.
Second thing is that I can't get a right-click at all from the trackpad. Clicking on the right mouse button area of the trackpad seems to send a left click mouse event. Right now I'm emuating right-clicks with two-finger tap, whcih is also very annoying. I can't find a synaptics setting to make physical right-clicks work.

Hey there, I think this is an issue across multiple distros and not specific to Arch. I migrated over to Arch in the past month or so from Ubuntu. I experienced the exact same right-click issue that you did. Here's a related bug in Ubuntu that others mention similar issues https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/681904

  • Why Transaction iView Turns to a White Screen When Right Clicking?

    Hi Experts,
We have created a transaction iView for the property tree in 2 systems: our system and the client's system. In the portal after we open the screen and right click on the screen, the whole screen turns to a white screen. But it only does that in the client's system not our system.
This is the error in the bottom of the page "Object doesn't support the property or method". Both systems use SAP NetWeaver 7.0 2004s. Has anyone come across this issue before? I would very appreciate any responses.
    Thank you,

    Hi
You can try these checks on your client's system... looks like some browser issue..
I am assuming you are running on same IE versions on both the systems..
    1. Try to open in some other browser( mozilla or chrome...) and see if it works..
    2. Check this microsoft link also.

  • Is there a fix for the touchpad right click???

It is probably an intern engineering failure but the touchpad on my brand new notebook is complete junk.
I disabled every possible feature, uninstalled all the HP bloatware and STILL I have to click a gazzilion times in the far right corner of the touchpad to achieve a valid right-click.
I don't know how an engineering crew could fail this bad, but they completely phucked up on this one.

  • Right-click functionality on trackpad disappears randomly. Please help?

Hello everyone. I'm new to these forums, and I guess I'm no mac veteran either.
I'm currently running Boot Camp with Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro. I bought it circa Nov 2008, and a few months ago I deleted my windows partition and made it fresh with Win7 and my Snow Leopard CD.
I don't know if my problem has been there all along, but I often lose right-click functionality in Windows 7. Nothing short of a reboot will restore it, despite me looking again and again in the boot camp settings. I've no idea what causes it either.
I read in these forums to check for software updates in Mac OS X (done), and to upgrade my Boot Camp to the 3.1 version. Under Applications -> Utilities, it says that my Boot Camp Assistant's version is 3.0.1., so I booted Windows 7 and ran the 3.1 updater (64-bit version). But the problem is still there.
    Can anyone help me?

Everything is working now! After installing w7, I immediately installed the 3.0 drivers and the 3.1 bootcamp download before proceeding to do anything else except for the mandatory restarts. Last few times I re-installed 7 (in hopes of fixing the issues) I always messed with display settings, installed Chrome, dl'd MS essentials, etc. before getting around to the BC drivers. Not this time!
After bootcamp was installed and updated I restarted a few times for good measure before proceeding to download the "windows updates". Then I turned on the tap to click features.
note: I used the track pad button until after both bootcamp updates were installed.
I know this may sound unnecessary, but perhaps the order of what you do and don't do affects the drivers. I spent many hours on forums without finding a relevant and working solution. I hope this order of operations can benefit someone.

  • Remove pointer from the left/right click areas of Synaptics touchpad

Just received my U510 a couple of days ago and the touchpad is driving me crazy.  My pointer moves around in the left/right click areas of the touchpad which is causes me to continually make the wrong selections because of a slight movement made by my finger in the click area.
I spoke with both hardware and software support at Lenovo and it appears that this is the way it is.  They uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and tried to make various adjustments, that I had already tried, without success.  I had first level support and they wanted to reinstall the O/S thinking that this was a hardware issue.  I tried to explain that I just simply want my right click to be a right click only and my left click to be a left click only in those areas of the touchpad wihtout my cursor/pointer moving while my finger is in those areas.  They did not understand.
I am running on Windows 8.1 and have the latest Windows 8 Synaptic driver 16.2.21.3.  Lenovo tried to install the driver for 8.1 but it will not install.  I don't think it will make a difference anyway.
This really isn't a problem just a major annoyance.
Has anyone tried contacting Synaptics about this?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks---

re: Please help! (And do not allow my silly username to deter you from giving me a helpful anwer.
Perhaps the person who gave you the silly username can be persuaded to change it?
Very sad you are in such a jam that you've got to ask the people for mercy in this way.
Anyhow, in answer to question, if not a mechanical issue, then perhaps drivers.
If it is mechanical (unlikely) would not recommend you try to fix, send for repair.
