Touchpad disabled

My cat (#$@%!) walked all over my Mac Book Air while I was working on it.  It is still working great - pandora still going strong.  I can tab around to different windows but I can't doing anything because the touch pad doesn't work except the mouse swirls around without being able to click.
I imagine it was just turned off.  How do I turn it back on?

  • T60; Touchpad disabled; No "Touchpad" option on BIOS

    dear community members,
since I restaged XP, my touchpad isn't working and is permanently disabled. Symptoms are:
    a) On ThinkPad Configuration utility, the TouchPad item is grayed and can't be checked
    b) when Fn+F8, three options appears: (1) Enable trackpoing and touchpad (2) Enable trackpoint only (3) Enable touchpad only. Even when I choose option (1), the touchpad isn't enabled
    c) when launching UltraNav wizard, message is: "Touchpad is disabled from BIOS. Please enable it from BIOS or the ThinkPad configuration utility"
    d) on the BIOS utility, there is no option for Touchpad under Config/Keyboard Mouse
    BIOS was updated today
    Trackpoint works OK
    UltraNav shows Touchpad disabled (grayed)
Device manager doesn't shows any error.
Can someone understand what is happening ?

  • Elitebook 8570w - Windows 7 - How to turn off light when touchpad disabled

I much prefer to use the styk rather than the touch pad, and I lay my hands on the computer in such a way that I can accidentally trigger the touch pad when it is on.  So with laptops I usually just go to the device manager and disable the touch pad entirely.
However, on my Elitebook 8570w, when I disable the touch pad, this extremely bright orange light comes on.  It's extremely annoying, especially in low light situations, where I often have to work with my laptop.
How can I disable this light while the touchpad is disabled?

  • T61 touchpad, disabling tapping

I'm trying to figure out how to disable tapping on the touchpad on my T61.  I can't seem to get to the configuration for the touch pad.  I've tried installing the UltraNav driver and utility that I found on the lenovo site.  (e.g. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67226).  The driver seems to be installed according to the windows device manager, but when I try to run the utility (UNAVOSD.exe) it says "UltraNav Driver is not installed".
I'm not even sure if that utility is what I want to be using, as on other machines the synaptics configuration appears in the Mouse control panel, but on my T61 all I get is settings for sample rate, wheel detectection and input buffer length.
Does anyone have some suggestions for what I should try next?

Ok, I had a chance to take a look at my ThinkPad, I haven't touched it in a few weeks , but today I found it. Try this.
-> Control Panel -> Mouse -> UltraNav tab -> TouchPad settings -> Tapping -> Enable
This is where I have it.

  • U530 Touchpad - disable zones

    Hello all,
I've just received my brand new IdeaPad U530 Touch and I'm having a serious problems with touchpad.
I've disabled tapping and I would like to use it as a normal touchpad - left-bottom for left click, right-bottom for right click and everything else for moving the cursor.
My problem is with the last part. The zone where left\right click buttons are located is also used for moving the cursor, which is extremely annoying and confusing at the same time.
To reproduce (one of the many issues):
    1.) Go to desktop
2.) Press and hold the bottom left corner
3.) Try to select any area on the screen (hold left button and move the mouse) - this doesn't work
I would like to specify that bottom of the touchpad is used ONLY for pressing buttons and not for moving the cursor, this makes my life really miserable at the moment.
    Thanks,
    Martin

I have a different machine (a thinkpad) and had a similar issue.  It is possible that the touchpad may be trying to interpret having 2 fingers on at once as a 2-finger gesture -- on my machine, I was able to go to the touchpad settings and adjust a property called "Gesture Filtering" to create a larger zone in the bottom of the touchpad.  With this change, I am able to rest one finger on the bottom of the touchpad while using another to move the pointer around.  Hope this helps

  • Touchpad disabled - but still strange problems

I have a strange issue with the touchpad in my lenovo thinkpad r500. I have disabled it using
    synclient TouchpadOff=1
in the console but when I use the trackpoint (for instance the middle mouse button for scrolling) and touch the touchpad at the same time with the palm of my hand the mouse pointer starts going crazy plus it wildly opens new tabs and pastes text that i copied before... It basically acts like im pressing a lot of key combinations at the same time.
Does anybody have the same problem or know why the touchpad reacts to being touched at all (since it should be disabled and doesn't do anything when I touch it without using the trackpoint)?
    Thanks for your help.

Download clockgen (just google it) and make sure your agp speed isn't too high.  Lots of people have reported that MSI oc's on certain settings. Even though your friends card runs fine, it might just have more oc headroom than yours.

  • Touchpad disabled on KDE login

    Hi,
this is driving me crazy: the touchpad is enabled in KDM, but during the KDE login the touchpad gets disabled. So I always have to open a konsole and do "xinput enable 12" (id of the touchpad).
Can't figure out why it started happening.

Not a fix, but as workaround you could add "xinput enable 12" to the kde autostart on "System settings -> Start & Shutdown [system administration section] ->  add program"
pd: section names can vary, my kde isn't on english

  • Issue with Elan Touchpad disabling with Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5112 after startup

Upgraded the laptop from 8.1 to Windows 10 and after I rebooted it a couple of times, the cursor/touchpad becomes disabled after a few minutes.  I can go to settings and re-enable in Mouse settings, but then the left/right click pads don't work. I saw some older postings about this in a Windows community related to older builds of Windows 10 but would have thought this would be fixed by now.  Looked for newer drivers and not finding anything. Anyone else having this issue and figure out a way to fix it?

  • G570 TouchPad disabling problem

    Hi!
I recently bought a new Lenovo G570 Laptop and immediately updated the BIOS (so I can't tell if it worked before). Everything seems to be working perfect, but I found that Fn-F6 (enable/disable touchpad) is not working and the TouchPad is stuck enabled. It's really bothering me, is this a BIOS problem or just wrong Windows configuration?

  • Touchpad Disable/Enable & Sensitivity Problem

I am unable to Disable/ Enable the Touchpad.  Double tapping the upper left corner does not work.  Also would like to adjust it's sesitivity to touch if possible.  Any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Cobbler

It sounds as if you’ll have best use out of your touchpad by turning off your touchpad’s "tapping" function:
    press the blue thinkvantage button
    select device configuration
    select mouse settings
    select manage settings
select the ‘ultranav’ tab along the top
    go to settings
    select ‘Tap and Drag’ tab
    disable tapping
a faster way to get to the tapping function if you later find you want to turn it on and off, is to locate the ultranav icon on lower right of your screen, left of the system time, click there, and go to touch pad settings.

  • Fn touchpad Disable/enable not working on Msi GE70 20E

I recently got a MSI GE70 2OE 011NE with Windows 8, when i got it the Fn key wasnt working properly, some of the shortcuts worked, but to disable/enable touchpad didnt, i then downloaded the touchpad driver from this website, and then it worked.. then i updated to windows 8.1.. and after that once again it didnt work, but now it seems like the fn key doesnt work at all.. and my touchpad was disabled when i updated, wich means i cannot enable the touchpad again now.
i tried both touchpad drivers from this site, for both win 8 and win 8.1, wich didnt work.
What can i do to make the fn key work ?
update: apparantly some of the fn short cuts works.. for ie. sound, brightness and backlight keyboard brightness.. just not the enable/disable touchpad :(

Try doing the EC reset procedure....
    1. Turn notebook off.
    2. Remove AC adapter.
    3. Remove battery.
    4. Let the notebook sit there for about 20 minutes.
    5. Come back, insert battery.
    6. Add AC adapter.
    7. Power on and see if its working now.

  • Satellite L650 - Touchpad won't disable after BIOS Update

    Hello,
    I've recently got a new laptop, a L650-1CN,
I run the various kinds of software from Toshiba, and one of them is Tempro,
It shows me messages when a new update is available.
Today I got saw the message that a new BIOS update v.1.80 was available.
I downloaded it, and installed it. After installing my laptop shut down. Then I booted it again.
But after a few minutes I noticed that my touchpad didn't disable itself anymore.
I usually use a logitech wireless mouse.
Now I'm wondering if I should do a system recovery and not install this BIOS update, or find another solution to fix this. Because it's really annoying.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi buddy,
Usually the touchpad disable it automatically if an external mouse is connected but only if you enable this option in touchpad settings.
I also use an external mouse from Logitech and have activated this option. You can find it in control panel > mouse. Go to tab Device Settings and mark the option Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.
    I hope it works :)

  • Gnome 3.16 Touchpad controls - Disable when typing

    Hi guys
I'm running an old Asus Zenbook UX21E with an Elantech touchpad
    I recently installed Gnome 3.16
I went to Settings > Mouse and touchpad
and much to my horror the option to disable touchpad when typing had vanished.
Any suggestions on why the setting is no longer present or some workarounds to implement it elsewhere?

    Vinibo wrote:
    I might have something!
The key doesn't exist anymore in the Gnome registry.
Here is a command to activate the feature : dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/touchpad/disable-while-typing true
Basically, it will create the same key as in Gnome 3.14 and will set it to true.
It does, but even on a fresh login has no effect (for me, at least) in Gnome 3.16 with xf86-input-libinput installed. Apparently it's a bug.

  • Disabling Thinkpad Touchpad on Resume

    Hello all,
I have a ThinkPad Laptop, and I use the little red nubbin exclusively. I don't like to have the touchpad enabled because I constantly brush it with my wrist, but I don't like disabling it in the BIOS because I semi-regularly have other people using my computer.
    I keep it disabled with
xinput --set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Device Enabled" 0
I have it in my .xinitrc, and when I first boot up its properly disabled. However, when I suspend and resume, the touchpad is enabled again. I tried to use a pm hook in /etc/pm/sleep.d but the script doesn't seem to be able to connect to my X server.
Is there some setting I can tweek or hook I can run that'll keep my touchpad disabled on resume?

stillinbeta wrote: I tried to use a pm hook in /etc/pm/sleep.d but the script doesn't seem to be able to connect to my X server.
set the display variable in your script, i.e.
    export DISPLAY=":0.0"
maybe it's also necessary to run xinput with your username, i.e.
    su -c - $YOUR_USERNAME "xinput ...."

  • How do I permanently disable the touchpad on Probook 4525s?

How do I permanently disable the touchpad on Probook 4525s?  I can uninstall the driver in Control Panel, but on the next boot, it's back on again.  I use a usb mouse and the touchpad is simply in the way when I'm typing.

    Hi PoohBear!
There are a couple of options depending on your OS and your TouchPad version.
The very best option, should it be available to you is the following:
Newer Drivers (at least the V16.x) have the ability to turn off the TouchPad / Click pad with a setting on the main "Settings" page when a USB mouse is being used.  This is a very nice feature.
Control Panel > icon view > Mouse > TouchPad [ClickPad] Settings >
CHECK "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"
If you would like to be notified and see a visual cue of the disablement >
CHECK "Animated tray icon in Taskbar" >
and make sure you have your Taskbar notifications set so you can actually see the Mouse notice.
    =====================================================
Here is a 16.2.X TouchPad driver for the ProBook series - It may work on your notebook:
    sp58647 Synpatics V.16.2.10.12
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
An Alternate method that may work with an older driver should the better option not be available:
Control Panel > icon view > Mouse > TouchPad [ClickPad] Settings >
(repeat) TouchPad Settings (button) > Click-on Tapping >
    Click on Spikey Blue Wheel
    At "TouchPad Disable Zone Settings"
CHECK "Double Tap to Enable / Disable TouchPad"
    At "Top Left Action"
    CHECK "Switch the TouchPad OFF"
    Close
     OK
NOTE If this alternate option is available, it is fine, unless something goes awry.  You could get stuck without your USB mouse AND without a means to get back into the setting to switch on the TouchPad.  I do not know whether I would use this setting.

    I hope this helps!
    Kind Regards,
