Touchpad doesn't work - HP Pavilion DV4 - 2120ca

Re: Pavilion DV4-2120ca
Touchpad doesn't work after cleaning out the dust collection in the fan, heat sink area.  New Therma paste was applied.
Both the keyboard & touchpad were the 2 things that didn't work following reassembly.  The keyboard didn't work but able to use USB wireless mouse.  Couple days ago the replacement battery finally arrived, installed and charged for 12 hours.  After restart, the keyboard works as it should.
Unfortunately, touchpad still doesn't work. The light switch above the touchpad works, clicking on it turns white & amber but any movement scrolling doesn't work.
We tried the following, but unsuccessful
double tapping top left corner
Hard Reset
Uninstalled ALPS & Synaptics -- reinstalled , restarted
Updated Windows, HP, BIOS, Drivers
Don't recall during reassembly if touchpad has a cable or connector.  If so, perhaps worth try to disconnect & reconnect to ensure correct connection.
What do u advise to try next?
Thank u
~ Gayle ~

Did you connect the ribbon cable for the Touchpad. Often times there is one for the keyboard and one for the touchpad separately. Hopefully you have not damaged the ribbon cable. Just make sure you push it all the way in and seat it properly.

  • Satellite PRO A200-1S1 with Windows 7 x32. Touchpad doesn't work

    Hi everybody
I Installed Windows 7 on my Satellite Pro A200-1S1, retrieved all the drivers on Toshiba site, everything works fine (less than the web camera that didn't work even with previous s.o. XP or Vista...). But my Touchpad doesn't work at all.... No Fn+F9, no driver, nothing works. And in my control panel-device manager seems to be everything ok.
    Any suggestion?

    Hi
Never had any problems with the touchpad using Win 7 32bit.
I recommend installing VAP (value added package) and Flash Card Support Utility to get the FN button functionality. Then you could try FN + F9
Both tools can be downloaded from Toshiba European driver page there you should choose Sat L500 series because I didnt find mentioned Win 7 software for A200 series.
Check also the touchpad drivers which I found in L500 download area (Alps a Synaptics)

Hi candy, glad that you found that Shockwave Flash Object, it works with the Flash files and is very important
The NPSWF files that you said are not there, those are for the Firefox browser or Chrome or some other browser. If you use Firefox and want the Flash Player for that, then close all of your browsers so you are only looking at your Desktop.
Click on this Flash Player Installer for Firefox and SAVE it to your Desktop. Then RUN it from your Desktop, and after it is finished Installing, Restart your computer.
Then Using Firefox go to the plug-ins and find a SWF vs 10.0.45.2 and make sure it is Enabled. This is just like the Shockwave Flash Object for Internet Explorer, but it is the one that works with Firefox.
Let me know if that is what you wanted to do. If you don't use Firefox, but Chrome or another browser, then this will work for that one also.
If you don't use another browser, then don't do any of this. I just thot maybe you did and that is why you were concerned that the NPSWF files were not there.
    Thanks,

  • Fn + F6 to lock/unlock touchpad doesn't work with Windows 10

Hello,i have G580 i'v done an upgrade from 8.1 to windows 10so i'v have a small issue with touchpad :Fn+F6 to lock touchpad doesn't work when it was working as well in 8.1scrolling line at touchpad doesn't work to. so how to fix it, or will lenovo release drivers for windows 10 as she did for previous windowsis getting newer driver from elantech or synaptic website will resolve the problem ? cuz i did install 8.1 driver elantech and keyboard+mouse stopped working before reseting windows 10 upcoming driver. Best regards.

I have the same problem. Untilthey update the ELAN driver I go in to Settings, Devices, Mouse and Touchpad, Additional Mouse Options and disabel  the ELAN driver. You can still turn it back on with Fn F6, but you have to go through the same steps again to turn it off. The nice thing is, it doesn't go back to enabled after awhile when you havent' been using the laptop.for awhile as it did before. The bad side is it takes about half a dozen key strokes to get to he disable. Hope this helps for now.

  • Touchpad doesn't work correctly

My touchpad isn't working correctly anymore.
i don't know if this is due to hardware or software but i will explain the problem and maybe someone can help me.
the pad is working correctly, so i can move the mouse, but when i try to push the touch pad it doesn't work anymore. i've already activated the touch option so that i can still whithout a usb mouse.
    But please someone help me

If the click function is working with the tap, but not by physically clicking the touch pad, it is more than likely a hardware failure. Take it to the apple store for a diagnosis.

  • Laptop Mouse touchpad doesn't work with Firefox 4

Previously in Firefox 3, I could use the touchpad on my laptop to middle click, and scroll. Now it won't work with Firefox 4. When I try to use the scroll feature it registers the mouse as scrolling, but the page doesn't move at all in Firefox. When I try to open a link in a new tab using middle click it shows the auto scroll but even then the orientation is wrong as well. When trying to close a tab using the middle click it shows the same left to right auto scroll instead. It works fine with a normal mouse, but with a touchpad it doesn't work at all. I have also tried using drivers to fix the problem, but that was not the issue.

well, if you stick to firefox 4, then i'd say, well, babylon in my memories, it offers a online prompt method of translation, supporting tens of languages, similar to google translate webpages, the url is http://translation.babylon.com/ you can keep firefox 3.x and 4.0 in the same time in your windows. firefox 3.x to 4.0 update is not compulsory, so use the one you feel good with.

  • Touchpad doesn't work anymore

    Hello there,
I've a problem with my touchpad. It doesn't work anymore.
A few months ago I had a few problems with the touchpad. The cursor was running over the screen, random clicking some things. Sometimes it happened for an hour, sometimes for a few days, but it always stopped. Later it didn't disapear anymore. The touchpad isn't working at all, so I'm not able to work with it anymore. I already cleaned the touchpad from the outside and the inside., but there's no change. It's not so good that something important like that gets broken in such a short time, I have my laptop for two years now. I'm curious if there is a special guarantee for this, because I think this is not my fault. Maybe there is something wrong from the beginning or something.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks a lot.
    Bye.

I have my laptop for two years now.
Unless you purchased Apple care, the one year limited warranty has expired.

  • Z580 - touchpad doesn't work properly on Windows 10

hello. I did Windows 10 clean install on my Z580 and I noticed there are some minor flaws regarding touchpad, namely: 1. one finger edge scrolling doesn't work. only two finger scrolling is available2. two finger tap doesn't open context menu, even though the option is enabled in Synaptics settings the touchpad is made by Synaptics and I'm using drivers that got installed via Windows Update (version 19.0.9.5)

It is really strange. Have you installed something that can have negative influence on well working Synaptics driver?
    > What can I do to ensure that the problem is solved for every time?
Thats good question. Only thing you can do and be sure everything will be OK is to install original recovery image you got with your notebook. At this point everything should work properly.
I don't know what are you doing later but for me it sounds like some drivers conflict.
Sorry but on this virtual way it is not possible to be more specific.

  • Fn+F5 function and touchpad doesn't work correctly on Satellite A series

    Hi
    I just setup a windows Vista & I install the driver after download it from the net but i found that;
1- the switch between the screen & s-video (fn + f5) doesn't work but the other function (fn) work
2- when i put my finger in the right of the mouse pad it must scroll the screen & in the bottom of the pad it must scroll left & right the screen but it didn't work
So plz tell me the solution if it is a program or driver issue.

    Hi
    What notebook do you have?
I presume your notebook was delivered with XP and now you want to use it with Vista OS.
Please note that you need to install the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package to use all the notebook features.
Very important is the Components Common Driver and the TOSHIBA Flash Cards.
The Flashcards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function.
    Please reinstall it!
The additional touchpad functionality must be configured firstly!
This can be done in control panel -> mouse
There you should look for the touchpad settings and could configure the touchpad scroll areas again.
    Bye

  • Touchpad doesn't work properly after using of mouse.

On my macbook air I usually use touchpad only. But I use mouse to play games.
Sometimes when I do it, then exit the game, touchpad stops to work properly.
Mainly it works like usual, I can open files, close windows, follow links in Safari. But I can not close tabs (the x-mark doesn't apper). Also I can't select text with touchpad (only one work, by double clicking). Also I can't open sites via top sites panel, by clicking on them - only with keyboard. Probably there more small, but unpleasant things?
    What can I do?
Reboot does help, but I don't want to reboot each time I play a game...

If you installed any software to work with the mouse, remove it according to the developer's instructions, then restart the computer and test. Back up all data before making any changes.

    > Can you post what you added to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf?
I tried a couple of different options in 10-evdev-conf and 10-synaptics.conf. None really made a difference.
    The cleanest might be this:
    10-synaptics.conf as above.
included at the end of 10-evdev.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
Identifier "disable synaptics secound mouse found"
    MatchProduct "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/mouse0"
    Option "Ignore" "on"
    EndSection

  • Touchpad doesn't work after changing from Vista to XP Satellite A210

    Hi everybody!
I have changed Windows and now something is wrong with Touchpad. It works only as a mouse (cursor moves, right and left buttons are also ok).
Before with Vista I had email button, wireless connection, something else and sound changing, and plus it had extra blue light. Now these buttons are not active and no etrxa light.
    Laptop Satellite A210.
I've tried all possible drivers already but maybe you could advice me something else.
    thanks in advance!

    please try this one
