Touchpad for scrolling only

On ThinkPad Edge 325 laptop I have UltraNav device (both touchpad and trackpoint). I never use touchpad as pointing device, but I find it handy to use it for scrolling. Is there any way to disable all pointing device functionality on touchpad, but retain scrolling?
I read synaptics(4) manual and ThinkWiki articles for touchpad, trackpoint and UltraNav, but I see no solution there. Search on forum revealed a topic from 2012, but no solution there either.
Edit: I actually want to have only two-finger scrolling, so that all the events with one finger would be ignored by touchpad. The solution below indeed turns touchpad to scrolling-only device, but it still makes me suffer from accidential touchs.

I ahve never tried this, but what if you made the actual requirements for pointer movement ridiculously small.  So much so that it would never register as being legit.  I'm not sure exactly what options you would use... maybe zpressure?  I have thought about this before, but the best thing that I could come up with was expanding the right scroll as mentioned above.
Of course, you could always just modify the source and recompile.

Perhaps using xinput would work as it does with the ThinkPad TrackPoint { xorg-xinput needs to be installed }.

  • Use touchpad only for scrolling & Synaptics conf reset [Thinkpad x220]

Greetings out to the community, great work you do out there, thank you all!
I got have two problems to solve:
    1. I want to configure my   touchpad   to be a   pure (two-finger-)scrolling device   (no clicking, no mouse-movement should be made).
I want my trackpoint to control the mouse, and use the three buttons above the touchpad for interacting (Click, middle-click -> activates scrolling with trackpoint too, right click).
    USB-Mice should be used "normally".
    2. Is it possible to   reset all settings    from   synclient   and restore "standard"-settings in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf, or reinitialize autoconfiguration of x?
    Thank you in advance.
PS: I use xfce and slim.

You have a thinkpad, so i suppose this might be useful for you:

        # echo -n 200 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio2/sensitivity

  • Touchpad (Synaptics) scrolling with two finger gesture is smooth only after scrolling in IE9 before (Firefox 8/9/10 Windows 7 (64)).

First I got the problem solved that 2-finger-gesture scrolling did not work at all: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/895816. Thanks for that!
With "smooth scrolling" turned on in the options, touchpad gesture scrolling is smooth in FF9 but only in 5-line-steps. No stopping in between possible. If touchpad scrolling is performed in IE9 once, scrolling in FF9 is completely smooth afterwards. If the gesture is perfomed once in Google Chrome 16 scrolling in FF9 is turned back to 5-step-scrolling. Chrome 16 and IE9 can be used to turn off and on the completely smooth scrolling in FF9!

  • T510 - Ultranav middle button click + touchpad move for scroll issue

    Hi,
I am used from my t500 to click and hold middle button on the Ultranav and move up and down with the touchpad to scroll up and down. However, this does not work on my t510 anymore.
At least it does work sometimes for some seconds in google chrome; but just for some short moments.
The default behaviour is, that when i'm clicking the middle button the scroll symbol in form of a little scrollbar appears. I can then scroll by using the trackpoint, but not by using the touchpad. Using the touchpad has just the effekt, that the symbol disappears.
Sometimes another symbol appears; its the symbol with the arrows pointing in all direktions. Only when this symbol appears i am able to scroll by moving on the touchpad.
Now i am looking for a solution to my problem.
by the way: when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad is locked for some seconds. Is there a way to disable this?
    Best Greets, matthias.

There is an option to adjust how many lines the scrolling wheel skips but nothing about auto-scroll.I tested it.
It seems like if I use the Auto-scroll and keep the mouse literally 1 pixel below the circle, it will be barely slow enough for reading long articles but you really have to spend a minute and a magnifier to make sure you put the mouse pointer exactly 1 pixel below the circle, otherwise it gets too fast.I'm NOT exaggerating the 1 pixel part. My screen is 1920x1080.Maybe that makes things worse.
I was hoping to adjust the number of "pixels" the pointer has to travel to increase the speed from 1st to 2nd stage.Basically, to increase the distance you have to move the mouse in order to increase the acceleration.
I'm not sure if anyone here uses 1080p screen.Could you please confirm that it's also 1 pixel for you ?

  • Thank youbfor optimizing the touch input for scrolling on my HP Slate 500, why wont the others do the horizontal scrolling feature enables?

After testing all other available browsers the past month I have arrived at the conclusion that the Firefox browser is the only one that enables touch input for scrolling. Trying to navigate pages without this function using IE, Opera, Safari & Chrome is just tedious. I'm using the Slate as it was intended, business functions especially day to day charting for my patients in an online system.
The larger tabs for opening new searches & sites. If Microsoft plans on making W8 truly touch enabled they need to take note of what FF has done here. The touch input is limited on W7 but you've succeeded where others have failed.
3 cheers for FF! I couldn't do my job and document patient progress w/o your intuitive design. Brendan S. - Latham, NY
I guess the question is why are the others not developing these key features for Windows based slates...are they ignorant or is FF that much further ahead.

  • Creating JScrollPane with vertical scroll only...

Anyone got any idea how to use a JScrollPane to perform vertical scrolling only?
The components should be stacked vertically, as wide as the scrollpane and as high as they need to be.
Is it only possible by adding a ComponentListener to the JScrollPane (or the JViewPort) and setting the maximum width of the components to the width of the viewport?
Incidentally, anyone know how a JLabel (or any text component) calculates its preferred size when it can wrap the text contained? Ie, how do you get the preferred height for a specified width?

Doh - implement Scrollable to return true for getScrollableTracksViewportWidth()!

  • Different user settings for scrolling in tables or ALVs

    Hi Experts,
    I have a strange problem.
I have a Web Dynpro Application that uses the UI Element table. For one user who uses it the scrolling mode is a scrollbar and for an other user the scrolling mode is a paginator. That appears not only for this application. ALL applications on the system have this difference for users. So, not only in tables does that appear. In ALVs too!
Does anybody know where I can configure this for every single user?
    Thanks a lot!
    Best regards,
    Ingmar

The only thing I can figure is that the user getting the paginartor has accessibility turned on:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/19/e64941bfb4de2be10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
That is the only option I know of that should override the system or application settings for scrolling.  In particular accessibility can be turned on at the user profile level:
To do this, in transaction SU01 for your user name choose the tabstrip Parameters, insert the parameter ID ACCESSIBILITY_MODE with the value X, and save the entry.
    Or within the portal:
To do this, in your user profile in the portal, under General Information select option Activate Accessibility (Screen Reader Required) and save your entries. This specification is evaluated by Web Dynpro ABAP.

  • Scrollable frame ignores 'horizontal scroll only' on iPad3

Has anyone else come across this issue.. I have a 1024x788 folio article set to PDF. It renders nicely on both iPad 2 and iPad3, but scrollable frames set to 'horizontal scroll only' (which work perfectly on iPad2) still scroll vertically as well as horizontally on iPad3.  The images pasted into the scrollable frame are cropped top and bottom. Making the frame the same height as the images works, but doesn't explain the difference between the two iPads.

    Hi Felipe,
There are multiple reasons for choosing HTML articles instead of indd.
    1. size. imagine around 20 pages of this content. the background pattern alone is in html one 4x8px gif repeated from HTMLResources, whereas in indesign it would be a picture of the whole canvas on each page on every 20 pages.
    2. stylesheets. If i feel that the headers need to be in a different font or size, i can change the one stylesheet in my HTMLResources instead of opening 20 indd files.
    3. Speed in desking job. It takes me not even a quarter of the time to insert all the content into the html articles compared to indd. Indesign is a much clunkier and heavier program to use than notepad.
I could go on, but I guess its no point in this thread..

  • Stage overflow settings for scroll to anchor

    Hi,
I'm trying to do "scroll to anchor" functionality like the one here:  Edit fiddle - JSFiddle
My code only works if the Stage's overflow is set to hidden.
    var anchorId = sym.$('#feature02');
    $('html, body').animate({scrollTop: anchorId.offset().top}, 500);
I'm pulling in content from a json file (generated by a content management system), though, so I don't know how long the resultant page will be.  Also, it looks like the max Stage height setting is 10000, which is too short.
So, overflow set to auto lets me see all of my content but kills my "scroll to anchor" functionality.  Also, an overflow set to auto causes a nasty double scroll bar on the windows side.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    -Sherry

    Hi Heathrowe,
Thanks for your reply.  Visible seems to both work for "scrolling to anchor" and fixing the nasty double scroll bar.  Thanks so much.
Regarding #feature02:  I'm pulling in the data via a json file, then wrapping an anchor tag around the id:
    output += '<a id="feature0' + val.id + '" name="feature0' + val.id + '"> </a>';
I'm then referring to it from the button with this:
    var anchorId = sym.$('#feature02');
Which follows the "Work with elements directly" section of the JSAPI:
"Accessing imported HTML content through actions can be done by using sym.$("#myId"); to target the ID or class of your element."
Thanks again.  I'm embarking on a major Edge Animate / Kentico CMS project, so I can use all of the help that I can get.
    -Sherry

  • Scrolling only flash Scroll bar not a browser

When i scroll the scrollBar in Flash the browser is scrolling too. What i need is to stop scrolling the browser and scroll only the flash box. And the Browser have to scroll only then when the flash scrollbar is in end.
Is there a solution  for that?

the default behavior of textfields is, if they have focus, they will scroll with the mouse wheel until they have no more lines to scroll and, only then does the browser page containing the swf scroll.
    attached is a sample file.

I had the same problem. If you're running Greasemonkey, you need to update it. There's a conflict between Greasemonkey 0.9.10 and Tab Mix Plus on Firefox 6.0.2. Until the add-ons site approves Greasemonkey 0.9.11, you'll have to install it manually.

  • Why can't I scroll only in Safari with my magic mouse

Every so often I can't scroll only in Safari ( Firefox etc. OK) with my magic mouse. I can resolve that by quitting Safari, holding the option key while clicking on Go. This brings up library, click and click on caches. Then click on Apple: safari. Trash the cachesDB and empty trash. Click on Safari and the previously open window comes back up and you can scroll. This lasts an indeterminate amount of time and then freezes again.  How can I fix this permanently?

I just turned them off. Will see whether this solves the problem when I can go for days without it freezing. Thanks. One question. Why are the extensions on in the first place?
