Touchpad freezes windows 8

Hi
I have an Hp envy m4 with windows 8 preinstalled.
When I try to use the multiouch gestures, the touchpad freezes and I can't move the mouse during a few seconds.
I've tried everything, reinstalling drivers, updating them, etc, etc.
Nothing seems to fix my problem and is not just my laptop, I had to replace my previous one with the one I am currently using due to the same problem.
Also windows says my antivirus is not turned on, i've tried two different AV's and it keeps showing the same problem on action center.
It look like windows 8 is not working properly.
Don't know if I'm gonna have to refresh the pc, I really hope I don't need to.
PLEASE HELP!

Hello, camilotm.
I see that you're having an issue with the touchpad. This seems to be a software issue that you're having.
Knowing you've already adjusted some of the settings and updated the drivers. I would suggest trying to refresh the notebook.
Warning:
The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. Windows puts a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.
If that doesn't work I would suggest doing a system restore back to a previous time when the touchpad was working.
Here is a document which will show you how to perform both steps.
If you have any more questions let me know.
THX

  • Synaptics Touchpad Freeze (Kernel 3.3.2)

    Hi,
After upgrading the kernel to 3.3.2 and synaptics driver to 1.5.99.903 my touchpad freezes after some time. It is temporarily fixed by reloading (rmmod/modprobe) psmouse kernel module. Also, sometimes, it freezes the whole Xorg and I even need to reboot the laptop. I am using the x86_64. Does anybody know anything about this issue?
    Regards,
    Pedro

I have a (possibly) related problem - my Logitech G510 keyboard gets stuck randomly, necessitating a reboot. Sometimes quickly unplugging the G510 and adding another keyboard allows me to continue working for a while, but the USB subsystem appears to become unstable, necessitating a reboot. This is not an electrical error, as the keyboard works perfectly when plugged into machines running Ubuntu and Windows 7.  Strangly, the mouse and any connected USB storage continues to work just fine, and the machine will reboot gracefully, only the keyboard system becomes flaky.
I managed to capture a dmesg crash log at one point:

This happened with 3.2.12 so frequently I had to switch to another keyboard (Saitek Eclipse), and if I recall correctly, it never happened with that. With kernels 3.3.1 and 3.3.2 the G510 has caused one crash, so some improvement has happened.
My motherboard is an ASUS M4N78 Pro (AM2+ socket, nVidia chipset), with the latest BIOS as of 10.3.2012, with a Phenom II x4 965 CPU.

  • Problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1. Acer Aspire E5-511

I bought an Acer Aspire E5-511, but I have problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1.The touchpad (Synaptics) is not working with Windows 8.1 x64, but it works fine with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.When I install Windows 8.1 and have to choose” language to install” I can’t choose anything with the touchpad. I should plug in my mouse to continue. I doesn’t work even when it’s fully installed and with latest driver (available only for win 8.1 x64) from Acer’s website. I tried with an older driver, but had no success. I updated BIOS, but it doesn’t work again. In hardware IDS in device manager it shows HID\… not ACPI\… (like win 7/8). Fn+F7 doesn’t help. When I try to install Windows7/8 the touchpad is working properly at the beginning (I can choose ”language to install”, “Time and currency format”… and the touchpad works after install even without driver).

SOLUTION So guys after deep research and troubleshooting I found that you need to keep notice of a few things at time of installation: Installation Mode: UEFI (only)- LEGACY would create touchpad issues. after installation of windows just follow the driver installation hierarchy 1.Intel NB_Chipset_M Baytrail-M 2.Intel I/O Driver then rest of the crap. Note:After doing all this make sure your touchpad is active >> Fn+F7 Just wished if this solution came from an acer executive , the world would have been a better place , but anyways this is what community is for. Enjoy everyone

  • IPod (with video) freezes Windows XP - POSSIBLE SOLUTION

    Hi everyone,
I bought a 5g 30gig iPod with video a few days ago, and immediately ran into the "iPod freezes Windows when connected via USB 2.0" problem. I read through every possible post on this website, on iLounge, on Microsoft's forums, etc. There seems to be quite a substantial number of people running into this problem, because I've been seeing posts about this all over the place.
My specific problem was that whenever I plugged in my iPod, the iPod would display "do not disconnect" and iTunes would begin to recognize it - sometimes it would reach the point where it would begin to update - and then the computer would completely freeze. The iPod would "disconnect" and be completely usable, but the computer would not respond to anything what-so-ever. I had to perform a hard restart to get the computer usable again. No error messages, no "ctrl-alt-del" saves, nothing. It would also lock in the same exact way if I just plugged the iPod in without starting iTunes (iTunes wouldn't automatically start, computer would just lock up after a few moments).
Anyway, my problem was solved through a procedure I saw in a post somewhere (I'm pretty sure it was on these forums, actually). Basically, it seems as though there is some sort of conflict between iTunes, Quicktime, and Symantec's anti-virus.
The process is pretty simple - completely turn off whatever version of Symantec you're using (Norton AntiVirus, Firewall, whatever... I'm running Symantec Corporate AntiVirus 10). Then, uninstall Quicktime and iTunes (it might not be absolutely necessary to completely uninstall iTunes - I uninstalled Quicktime and then "repaired" the iTunes installation).
This seemed to resolve the situation entirely - I've updated my iPod three times now, and charged it, with no problems. Hopefully this continue to work... !
Incidentally, I think it's disgusting that this seems to be such a prevalent problem, yet Apple so far refuses to acknowlege its existence, much less provide a solution. As a long-time Windows/Microsoft user (notice I didn't say 'fan'), I expected much more from Apple.
    Anyway, good luck!

    Hi!
I have the same problem, though using iPod Touch.
My PC crashes just after charging sound on th iPod sounds.
I can be loggen on or not.
I have tried the 5R's two times
    I have removed SP3, didn't help.
I have updated to iTunes 8.0.1: Didn't help.
But I have an portable PC (job PC) where it is working fine, both PC's using XP Pro, english version.
So, just now, I am very dissapointed bu the Apple products (and it took me 20 years of Software Engineering before i bought something from Apple ..... )
So the stress test will be: Will Apple do anything with this ?

  • How To Maximize Frame in my Freeze Window

    Hi All,
I have a freeze window sample.
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=68056:1
    WS: dev_ws_100
    login: test01
    passwd: abc123
How do I maximize the width and height so that the window fits in the monitor screen? I tried screasing the with to 1000 x 1000 but the page is still small.
    Thanks a lot,
    Kinz

Yup, that's the definition of 'to maximize'; of course you can set the size and the location of the frame explicitly if you want ...

  • Firefox Freezes Window on Download with Android Wireless Tether

Firefox download is freezing Windows, not good. Here are the circumstances: I open Firefox, go to some web page that wants me to download a file (such as a PDF, but it doesn't matter), download the file, and BOOM, windows TOTALLY hangs. Mouse is frozen on the screen, no ctrl-alt-delete, no nothing. I still have the screen image, but it's frozen HARD. My only option is a long hold on the power button. Also, this happens on Gmail attachment downloads, exact same symptoms. (As a note, I really don't open files, such as PDFs, in the browser. I download, and possibly open with appropriate application, about everything. This hang happens regardless of whether I just download or download to temp and open.)
I've done LOTS of testing and this only happens when I'm tethered to my Droid through "Wireless Tether" which is an ad-hoc connection. Everything works fine if it's a regular wifi connection or an ethernet cable connection. Also, I do not have this problem with Chrome, so it's strictly a Firefox/Droid tether combination problem. I'm running version 12 of Firefox. I've turned off (set to False) the browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone option in Firefox. I've also turned off my file scan in Windows Defender. I absolutely know that I have no other virus software running, and I also keep VERY tight tabs on all my startup apps (both in folders and registry), and I'm VERY certain that I have no viruses.
This is an easily reproducible problem for me, and it's not a good one. I dearly love Firefox, but I do travel a lot and often use my Droid as a tether to get to the internet, as I'm doing this very moment. All other times (and everything else in Firefox) works absolutely fine with the tether, as I have a powerhouse computer (I7, with 8gb, and ATI 5870 graphics). Anytime I have the slightest problem, I knock it out, but this one is VERY serious.
I dearly love Firefox and would hate to make the switch to Chrome, but this one is severe enough that it has me considering it. Any advice or a quick fix would be much appreciated.

Hey Antrikshy, yeah, I actually thought about my add-ons and haven't tried that yet. This is good advice. I'll try it sometime today and let you know if this changed anything.
jscher2000, yeah, actually the Firefox safe mode is even a better idea. I'll try that too. Just to give you a little more on the symptoms, the file actually downloads, and my computer hangs just as the download completes. After I do a hard power-down reboot, the file is there and not corrupted. Also, the Droid "wireless tether" app doesn't even require a USB connection. It makes the Droid into a true wifi hotspot. Although it's an ad-hoc hotspot and not a true wifi infrastructure hotspot (and I must admit I'm not totally sure of the distinction). It's just truly a mystery that it's only with the Droid "wireless tether " app and Firefox that causes the problem. If I'm on Chrome, or using Firefox with other wifi or ethernet, no problems. But put these two together and BOOM, hard freeze on download every time. I can check my gmail or browse the web just fine. Also, yes, I'm just using the typical Firefox download options. I have no download manager add-on for Firefox.
I'll post a reply on the results of Firefox safe mode later today.

  • X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro causing Call of Duty games to freeze (Windows 7)

BX-Fi Fatalty Pro causing Call of Duty games to freeze (Windows 7)? before I had Windows 7 I was using XP and Call of Duty 4 & 5 worked great, but now that I have Windows 7, COD 4,5 & 6 or any other game built on the IW Engine (Infinity Ward Engine) all ways flash to a black screen for 0 seconds before returning to normal gameplay for only 2 seconds then back to the black screen & so on.
?I've troubleshooted this to be the sound card as when you remove the soundcard and use the onboard Realtek,?the game plays great, no freezes or black screens, but when I put the card back in and install the drivers again the problem starts again.
I'm guessing it's something to do with the Infinity Ward Game Engine as I don't have the problem with other games, it maybe due to the Windows 7 drivers for the card, i'll leave my specs below:
    Windows 7?Home Premium 32bit
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
    2GB DDR2 RAM
    AMD RADEON HD 3850
Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Pro (June released drivers)

Have you uninstalled your onboard sound drivers? Yes you disabled it in the bios, but have you uninstalled the software for the onboard? after uninstalling everything with onboard sound in both the bios and windows, you can try reinstalling Direct X which will find your primary sound device again. You can download the Microsoft DX9 redistributable just about anywhere, but microsoft.com will have the Vista/Windows 7 one that works best. Most games will have older versions of the pack.
I played Modern Warfare , 2 and Call of Duty 2 with your card under Windows 7 last month. So I am not sure what else to tell you.

  • Toshiba Controls freeze Windows Explorer on Satellite L350D

Hey guys, my Toshiba Controls (Mute, play, stop, next and forward) buttons literally freeze Windows Explorer. I am not 100% sure if there is a driver that comes pre-installed, but if there is then could somebody point me in the right direction on how to fix this problem?
Also, if this helps I do have my "TOSAPINS" folder containing all the programs that came pre-installed with my laptop.
    Thanks for your support.

    Hi
Do you mean that your internet explorer freezes while pressing on of the Toshiba control buttons?
    Thats strange.
Never heard about such issue but as you know nothing is impossible using the Windows OS ;)
However, I recommend updating the OS and cleaning the OS using the CCLeaner (free software).
Furthermore you could reinstall the Value Added Package because this package contains the applications which control the Toshiba buttons.
    Bye

  • Help!!!! Touchpad Freeze!! - Levono G470 Intel Celeron CPU B800 laptop

Just recently bought a levono g470 Intel Celeron CPU B800 laptop and faced this issue. Wherever i switched from my keyboard typing to my touchpad, the cursor will freeze for 2 seconds before it start moving. What is with the hang time?? I downloaded the lastest 470 touchpad driver version and same thing still occur. However, if i downloaded a random Lenovo touchpad driver which it not my laptop series, it works fine. Is my laptop faulty??????? very dissapointed with Lenova, this is just my second day since i purhased with my hard earn saving, and this problem occur.

My CD driver does comes with a older version touchpad driver. Lenovo did released a newer version of the touchpad driver, however, after install, same things happen, touchpad freeze for 2 seconds whenever i switch from keyboard typing.
Make me wonder, what purpose does the newer version driver serve, since it does not even solve the problem in their older version. Hopefully, Lenovo do really look into this!
And thank you YIGIT for your help , even though my problem is not solved yet .

  • Safari freezes Windows XP

Safari 5.1.1 occasionally freezes Windows XP Professional SP3 on some of our PCs.
I just used a PC where, in very light use, Safari freezed the whole Windows at about every 30 second for about 30 seconds. During the freeze nothing worked (couldn't even open the Task Manager), then the system worked OK for a short time. Task Manager seemed to also freeze because during the freeze it didn't update itself. Quitting Safari fixed the situation.
I'm now typing this on another XP box with Safari 5.1.1 with no problems.
One difference between the PCs is that this trouble-free PC doesn't have the Top Sites options at all, obviously it lacks the GPU Safari wants for this. Maybe Safari's Top Sites update causes the freezes?? Some recent Safari version had the same problem.
I've resetted Safari and emptied the caches a few times but it didn't help.
Is there anything that can be done to fix this or should I just switch to Explorer or Chrome (they work OK) on the freezing PC? I'd like to use Safari because I use it on my Mac at home.
    Thanks for any info.

  • K8T Neo2 + athlon64 3000+ = freezing windows again

I have posted here recently about freezing windows xp pro.
I bought a new psu and the problem was gone.
BUT the problem is here again...
When I have installed the new psu, I had memory sticks in dimm1&dimmm2. Computer ran good. But athlon64 3000+ on socket 939 mainboard should run at dual channel. So I put memory sticks in dimm1&dimm3, I tried running a game but the system froze. Same happend when I play any video file. So I put memory sticks in dimm2&dimm4, but no change. I've tried putting sticks back to dimm1&dimm2, but system froze. So I put only one stick to dimm1 and then to dimm2, absolutely no change. Now I bought additional 2 sticks (V-DATA), so I have 4 sticks, each 512MB CL2,5 PC2700. Freezing all the time. Everything in bios is set to auto, or by SPD. Graphic card overclocking is enabled and set to commander(6).What should I do??? Heeeeeelp meeeeee pleeeeease.
If you want some additional info about voltages, tell me where can I find it, and I will find it...
    thx for replies

I didn't want to run memtest on every single memory stick, so here is what I did:
I disconnected big disk fan in the front of the case and also the little blower, that
was blowing psu heat out in the back of the case.
I put all 4 memory sticks on the motherboard and tried to reinstall windows xp pro.
But installation was freezing too. So in bios I set dynamic overclocking to Colonel and left everything else at auto or by SPD in dram config.
And it works. I don't know how, I don't know why...
I thought thermaltake 480W will be good, I didn't know that system have to have at least 24A on 12V rail. But now I know.
The exact values for my psu are: 40A on +5V, 30A on +3,3V and 18A on +12V.
It was pretty expensive, so changing psu is rather not an option for me
When I tested my memory sticks in memtest, it was testing at these timings:
2,5-3-3-7. I just want to know what these numbers are (except 2,5, I know that's CL) and what they should be when you were telling me to slower timings.
Here is what I have learned reading through this forum:
    1.don't use usb mouse.
    2.have at least 500W with 26A on +12V rail.
3.unplug all fans, that you don't need.
4.try to change something in bios.
5.buy special memory sticks for dual channel.
    6.it can be graphic card.
    7.try disabling onboard network adapter.
and when none of these work, post in the forum
thx all for replies. When the problem is here again, I will post again.
