TouchPad Not Working on Envy 15t-j100 Quad Edition

The scrolling feature on my laptops touchpad has stopped working, along with the four finger flick gesture. This has happened several times, and I cannot remember how I resolved it before. What can I do to get this working again, and how can I keep this from occuring again in the future?

Hi
Your manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03943414.pdf
Unfortunately you can't upgrade graphic. NVIDIA is soldered on to the system board. Moreover there are no compatible boards with GTX 900M listed even if you're planning to change out the whole board.

  • WLAN for HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I just purchased a HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC with Windows 7 (February 2014).
It comes with 802.11bgn 1×1 WLAN module, which is not satisfactory so I would like to upgrade the WLAN to an Intel 7260ac.
According to the user manual, the following two parts are the only WLAN whitelisted by the BIOS:
    #1:
    Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1×1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
    Spare part number = 710662-001
    #2:
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 802.11 bgn 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
    Spare part number = 717384-001
I cannot find any of these models anywhere! I do find a 710661-001 on Amazon (which would be great if the BIOS accepts it! and good price too at about $35).
Could someone tell me if I can put this WLAN card (710661-001 on Amazon) or where to buy the HP approved #1 and/or #2 card listed above?
    Thank you!

Hi Arnaud_, welcome to the HP Forums. Unfortunately if the parts are not in the user manual I cannot guarantee they will work. You can try to buy it from HP PartSurfer.

  • HP Simplepass for HP Envy 15t J100 Quad Edition (energystar)

I used the Media Creation Tool provided by Windows to upgrade my computer to Windows 10. After setting up the new OS, I realized some features had not been copied over (as I selected Keep all files). I noticed that a number of programs that were originally present in  this laptop when I bought it (such as HP support Assistant, CoolSense, and SimplePass) did not carry over. I have since reinstalled HP Support Assistant and Coolsense from the HP forums here; however, I am unable to find a download for HP SimplePass that is meant for my Notebook. Again, I would greatly appreciate any solution as I heavily relied on the fingerprint reader in my Notebook PC.  Thanks in advance! Taffer

I have requested an escalation. Hopefully someone from HP will contact you next week.

Yes, this laptop supports Intel 7260AC wireless cards. I think that the whitelist is not there anymore. If you browse further this forum you can find threads with users confirming the chip is compatible and working well.

  • ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Quad Edition mSSD cache & Ram options

    Good day all,
I've ordered the ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Quad Edition from HP directly and during the configuration, it was mentioned that I could not configure the notebook with both the 24Gb mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache AND 16Gb of Ram. I wondered if it was a memory slot usage issue but I can configure with either 2x4Gb or 1x8Gb with no warning. Is it possible to add another 8Gb (as I ordered it with 1x8Gb) after getting this laptop or would having the mSSD Cache actually prohibit this?
    Thanks for any help offered.
    Richard
*not sure if it's of any consequence to the issue but the Hard Drive ordered for this system was a Hybrid.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It is not a physical problem with blockage of the memory slot but having 16 gigs of RAM means the cache drive may not work right. The cache drive has to be able to store everything in memory and then certain other files and the HP designers have decided it would take a bigger cache drive to work right with more than 8 gigs of RAM.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. The flash to F.64 went fine, however the new BIOS can't locate the boot record on the hard drive. Please back-up the hard drive, including all your personal data using a Linux LiveCD and external hard drive, or connect the drive to another working computer.
Next, use the HP Recovery Media you created when you first setup the computer to return it to a factory like state. • Hp Envy 17t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC Graphics Card Upgrade

I bought the Hp Envy 17t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC a while back and i was wondering if i could upgrade the graphics card on it. When you buy the laptop if gives you an option, you can either buy the Intel Deticated Graphics or the Nvidia Geforce GT 740 and i decided to buy the Nvidia GT 740 because i heard the integrated graphics were not that good for playing games. So i was wondering if i could somehow take out the NVidia Geforce GT 740 and replace with a better graphics card, Would that be possible?
    Thanks

Sorry; no dice. The video card is soldered to the motherboard. The point-of-sale options are for laptops with different motherboards. Buying a laptop is like buying a house: think about what you need now and in the future because they are not easy to change.

  • ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Hard Drive Thickness

I'm looking to replace the hard drive in my ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition with an SSD. HP's site currently does not list the thickness the the preinstalled hard drive. I would prefer to get an ssd that does not leave any extra unused space in the computer. What is the thickness of the hard drive installed in the ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition so I can upgrade to an equally sized ssd? Thank you.

It's very safe to use 7mm thick, as mentioned in my first reply.

  • Replace HDD with SSD for HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I'd like to buy a HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC and a HP v300a 120GB SATA Solid State Drive with Upgrade Kit.
Now the SSD has a 7mm thickness.
My question is if I can replace the HDD with this SSD? How thick is the HDD bay in the laptop.
If it's more than 7mm will the SSD move inside it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The old HDD on your machine is a bit thicker but with at least 4 screws I don't think new SSD will floating around in the case. I actually put new SSD in one of my laptop (not HP) and no problem BUT I don't move this laptop around. If needed, blue tac may help.

  • Hp envy 15t j000 quad edition ssd upgrade: what to know

Hello everyone so im going to buy an hp envy 15t j000 quad edition for school and was looking online to see what i can upgrade on it to make it faster. Im not very knowledgable with computers so i need lots of help! While doing so i found out the hp comes with a hard disk drive (hdd) and that these are prone to damage over time and dropping, moving, ect. I learned that solid state drives (ssd) are prefered and can make the computer significantly faster and wont be as vunerable as the disk drive. Im upgrading the envy with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory, 15.6-inch diagonal Full HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1920x1080), and the 12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) option. Will any of this affect my swapping of the hdd? I also was wondering why the 8gb ddr3 system memory (2dimm) didn't affect the price for switching to the 12gb option. There isnt a difference right? also would the 24gb accelrated cache be of any use? For my last question i think i heard that i would need to clone or buy another copy of windows 8 to put on the new ssd. will there be any problems doing this? Am i in for a headache?

    Pepe999
I went on to Tom's Hardware to looking into the 16GB memory.. there is a recent report where adding 16 gb-ddr3 ram.. will increase the life of a SSD drive by 63% compared to 4gb.. here is the link.. thought it was interesting and supported my thinking in reducing the number of HD writes.

thought I'd share it with you.. what do you think..

    Please Help!!!

    Hi @HPENVY15t-j000 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC and issues with a white screen just appearing. This is usually caused by and incompatible driver or software that was installed. Here is a link to help with a white screen issue.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
    Thanks.

  • Envy 15t J000 Quad edition CTO BBV error?

HI everyone! I just got a envy 15t, and decided that I'd rather replace the standard hard drive with a SSD. I created recovery media (wasted 2 disks that failed to complete), and was going through the process of booting the SSD from the recovery media when I got "restoration Incomplete". It got through copying information from the 6 disks fine, and was (I think) in the process of installing drivers and the like, when it stopped. It gave me 3 options; save log, details, and retry. retry does nothing, as I insert the disk as instructed, but they fail to be recognized as recovery media. I've installed everything twice, and it failed twice, and the diagnostics on the computer return PASSED when run on the SSD.
The following is what came off the details page, with removal of time code. Help??!! HP phone Reps have no clue as to whats going on.
    ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    or, check check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
Critical error condition was detected at BBV1...
Refer the following file if exists.
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBoot.log
Switch to 2ndCap's WinPE and show [Recovery Manager]'s Incomplete dialog.
because RM's dialog can't appear on [Start] screen in Win 8 enviroment.
customer may not notice RM already shows error dialog.
There migt be unexpected reboot during BBV Clean or Last....
The process will cause CTO panic becuase the image might not be normal...

Hello, no I ended up just purchasing Windows 8 Pro and installing a fresh version on my HP Envy Touchsmart j053cl.
I installed a new SSD in the laptop and the recovery disks simply wouldn't get past the BBV error, even after I reset the default settings on the BIOS.
I spoke with HP support and they told me the recovery disks would not work with an SSD, which was really disappointing, as I've owned many HP laptops that have supported SSD easily. They also wouldn't send me a free new set of recovery disks because mine may have been broken.
I really love my Envy 15 and think HP should always keep the customer who wants to use SSD's in mind, as they are fairly common with users who own quad core Intel laptops. Thanks.

  • Installing driver for Envy 17t-j100 Quad Edition

    Hi all,
I wiped the hard drive of my envy, and moved a cloned Windows XP image onto it. On startup, I get a 0x7b (inaccessible boot device - blue screen) error.
I'm pretty sure it's a hard drive controller error - i've ruled out just about everything else. Trouble is, because I can't yet boot into windows, i can't install the driver.
The Windows XP image has IDE drivers installed, and the BIOS is (i think) stuck on a RAID configuration.
The driver I need: Intel Matrix Storage
It comes with a .inf file, and i've tried to install it (via a recovery environment) by:
    the provided .exe
    command line
    DPisnt
How can I get this to boot?
Flash a new BIOS that can switch to IDE mode to match the existing drivers?
Somehow install the new drivers? (I want to avoid manually setting registry keys if possible)
    Impossible?
    Thanks,
    Albert

  • HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC Hinge broken

My laptop is only a month out of warranty.  My left hinge has also broken/not aligned with my right hinge even though I've never dropped my laptop and have taken good care of it. It seems that a lot of people have this issue with their hinge breaking. Any chance HP can replace this?

I can't find the link to do that. I went to the support link and the only option it gives me is to either go to a service location(in-person) or post on this message board.

  • HP Envy 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC left 'ctrl' key extremely sensitive

I just got this laptop new, and the left ctrl is sensitive enough to think it's being pressed when i have the weight of my pinky merely resting on it. Do I get some kind of warranty coverage for this, and if not, how can I get this fixed? Thanks.

    Hi,
At first, please try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
When the Notebook restarts keep tapping the f10 key to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults (this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Please let me know whether you see any change in the sensitivity of the key.
I am waiting to hear back from you.
