Touchpad Settings and multi-touch (SL series specifically) ?

One of the few things that is very difficult to do in linux is fine tune the touchpad settings. I was wondering if anyone has spent the time to fine tune their settings and would be willing to share?
Also, has anyone figured out how to enable multiple finger touch on the SL series touchpads? From what I heard it was disabled in the BIOS or something, but if there is a way to get it working again that would be great.
thanks!

Have a look at this thread, you might have the same problem, and installing the AUR package from eworm might give you vertical scrolling.

  • User settings and mobileme account removed upon user logout/login

On several occasions my touchpad settings and format settings (system preferences/international) had suddenly changed.(i.e. "tap to click", "drag" and "drag lock" all changed and so does the format from UK to USA). On these occasions I am also thrown out of my mobileme account and my idisk partitioning is removed. No other keychain setting seems to be affected. I wasn't sure what triggers this, and at first I thought it was due to a run down battery, which somehow changed the settings. However, I just noticed, that when logging out of my user account and back in, the settings are suddenly being changed.
Does anybody have an idea what is going on? This is rather frustrating, having to re-sync my idisk all the time.

You'll need to copy your /Home/Library folder. Make sure you back up first before doing the following. Log out of both your Work and Play accounts. Log in to a third account with administrator privileges. Assuming you are copying from the account called "work" to the account called "play", enter the following in Terminal:
sudo rm -rf ~play/Library (this deletes Play's Library folder.)
sudo cp -R ~work/Library ~play/Library (this copies Work's Library folder to Play's folder.)
sudo chown -R play ~play/Library (this fixes permissions of Play's new Library folder.)

  • Mouse and Touchpad settings Windows 8.1 and Surface Pro 3

I have a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 8.1.   I noticed that I can no longer use the right or left clicks when using the touch pad on the Surface Pro 3 keyboard.
When I go to PC Settings - PC and devices - Mouse and Touchpad I only see the section for the Mouse, touchpad does not display.
This is occurs with a domain user account.  If I log in as a domain admin (different account) the touchpad settings now appear.  Does anyone have any thoughts?
If I make the original user and admin or domain admin the results don't change, the touchpad settings still do not display.

    Hi,
It's hard to troubleshoot since I have no specific Surface pro to do a test.
Based on your description, when you add the promblematic user account to domain administrator group, the touchpad setting still not appear.
I suggest you recreate a new local user either admin or standard to check if it could get the correct setting.

  • GX620 Touchpad Settings

    Hi,
I was wondering where the settings for the touchpad are as i would like to add two fingered scrolling. Do i have to install drivers? If so which ones?
    Thankyou for your help
    Nikhil

well, from what I found out so far...
you need to download these drivers for the synaptics cause they're moded to add the 2 fingers functions
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15103
you also probably need to add these 2 lines to your registry and reboot (from http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=66785&start=30 )
    Go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SynTP\Parameters
and create a new "CapabilitiesMask" DWORD value there. Set it to 0xFFFFFFFF.
    and go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Synaptics\SynTPCpl
and create a new "DisplayGestures" DWORD value there. Set it to 1.
after that go on the mouse properties, device settings, settings, and enable the 2 finger gestures (which for some reason doesn't show for me), and enable that software from http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/
they say versions 6.5 and higher doesn't work, and the guy who made this software aparently uses version 6.2, ps2 as well, so should work for us... but I can't get it to work for some reason, give it a try and see what result you get  :D
and for the msi wind I found this article
    http://www.electricvagabond.com/2008/12/msi-wind-touchpad-mods-sentelic-becomes.html
    edit:
    here on page 75
    http://www.synaptics.com/sites/default/files/ACF126.pdf?q=decaf/utilities/ACF126.pdf
it talks about a function that can tell if the device is multifingercapable, which could probably save a lot of time from chasing windmills if this device is not in fact capable of multi finger tracking, but I can't quite get the code from page 76 to work right...
the dlls can be found here http://www.synaptics.com/decaf/utilities/SynCOMAPIv1_0.zip
if someone with a little more programing experience could give it a try and create a program that tests that, would be much apreciated ^^

  • How do I match a clip to sequence settings and sequence presets?

I'm getting the warning: Attention - This clip does not match this sequence's settings or any or our sequence presets.
I'm trying to figure out how to set things up in Compressor so that my clips do match my sequence settings and presets. The issue seems to be with the audio not matching.
    Here are the sequence settings:

The dialogue box for "Sound Settings" in Compressor doesn't offer any sort of options, that I can find anyway, to generate clips with "two outputs."

  • Aggregate Storage And Multi-Threading/Multi-Core Systems

Please pardon if this question has been asked before, but the Forum search is not returning any relevant results.
We are in the process of purchasing hardware for an 11.1.2 Essbase environment. We are going 64-bit, on Windows 2008, with either 32 GB or 64 GB of system RAM. The debate we are having is the number of CPUs and cores per CPU. We have not built any ASO databases as of yet, but we plan to launch a major BSO to ASO conversion project once 11.1.2 is off the ground here.
Historically, with BSO, we did not see performance improvements significant enough to justify the cost of additional CPUs when we ran calcs on multi-CPU systems vs. single or dual CPU systems, even when the settings and design should have taken the most advantage of BSO's multi-threading capabilities. However, it would seem that ASO's design may be able to make better use of multi-core systems.
I know that there are a lot of factors behind any system's performance, but in general, is ASO in 11.1.2 written well enough to make it worthwhile to consider, say, a four CPU, total 16 core system vs. a 2 CPU, total four core system?

Grand central dispatch - infancy, not really doing its job, and I don't think apps have to be specifically written for HT, but they do have to not do things that they use to - prevent threads from going to sleep! or be parked.
high usage is not necessarily high efficiency. often the opposite.
Windows 7 seems to be optimized for multi-core thanks to a lot of reworking. Intel wants and knows it isn't possible to hand code, that the hardware has to be smarter, too. But the OS has a job, and right now I don't think it does it properly. Or handle memory.
Gulftown's 12MB cache will help, and over all should be 20% more efficient doing its work.
With dual processors, and it doesn't look like there are two quick path bridges, data shuffling has led to memory thrashing. Use to be page thrashing with not enough memory. Then core thrashing but having the cores, but not integrated (2008 is often touted as being greatest design so far, but it was FOUR dual-cores, 2009 was the first with a processor that really was new design and (native) 4-core.
One core should be owned by the OS so it is always available for its own work and housekeeping.
The iTunes audio bug last year showed how damaging and not to implement code and how a thread could usurp processing and add a high cpu temperature while basically doing nothing, sort of a denial of service attack on the processor - those 80*C temps people had.
All those new technology features under development and not like OpenCL, GCD and even OpenGL are tested, mature but rather 1.0 foundation for the future. A year ahead of readiness.

    I have a 6 weeks old Toshiba C855-1W1 laptop with WIN8.
I am finding that the screen changes in the blink of an eye without my doing anything to make it do so.
I cannot find anywhere in this new OS where I can make adjustments to the keypad.

Has anyone else had this problem.?
WIN8 has been made very complicated compared to WIN 7.
It is such a pity MS changed things. I am hoping someone will understand what I am trying to describe here.

  • Miix 3 touchpad settings - Where can I find them?

One thing that has been ruining my experience using this tablet, ever since I got it, is the freaking touchpad window gestures. Unfortunatly Ive been unable to find the settings for this one.
Side charm > Settings > Change PC settings > Mouse and touchpad
Nope! All that's here is Mouse settings. Although it says "and touchpad", there are no touchpad settings here.
Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Pen and touch
Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Tablet PC settings
No. These are the settings for the touchscreen.
    Device manager >
I cannot find a touchpad device. Appearently its integrated with the keyboard: docking/undocking removes a third device listed under "keyboards". But there are no settings for a touchpad under any of the keyboard properties.
Does anyone know how to turn off these infernal window gestures? I like the touchpad, I like its buttons, but I really hate when the zooming goes haywire, when things double click by mistake, etc. I need to have this turned off or I cant use the keyboard dock!

The only thing listed under "Mice and other pointing devices" in the device manager is:
    HID-compliant mouse
And under "Human interface devices" there's:
    GPIO buttons driver
    GPIO dock mode indicator driver
GPIO laptop or slate indicator driver
...and a bunch of HID-compliant drivers
There is no category named just "Pointing device".
While docking and undocking, the following devices appears/disappears:
    1x HID-compliant consumer control device
    1x HID-compliant system control device
    4x HID-compliant vendor-defined device
    1x HID-compliant wireless radio controls
    3x USB input device
As you can see, it's all generic names.

  • Playing Flash content affects my touchpad settings

Hi folks,  I've searched the internet for an answer to this problem and I've ended up here (maybe I should have started here?!)
My question is; why does playing flash content on any website affect my laptop touchpad settings?  I have 'tapping' enabled which I like, but after playing any flash content the tapping feature no longer works.  The only way to get it back is via Control Panel-->Mouse settings etc, which is irritating the hell out of me.  Any ideas / remedies gratefully recived, thanks
    Nick

I too have a new 5800 XpressMusic with firmware v30 and that cannot display flash content. A friend has the same phone with v20 firmware and that plays the same websites just fine! I have checked the settings on both phones and they are the same. Looking for solution cos browsing is rubbish right now.

  • Changing Windows 8.1 precision touchpad settings

QuestionWhy is my Windows 8.1 touchpad not working properly, recognizing gestures, or allowing me to adjust settings?
    Answer
We have noticed that several users of our products have reported difficulty using the touchpad, adjusting touchpad settings, or having the touchpad recognize common gestures. Many of our Windows 8.1 systems use a precision touchpad specification provided by Microsoft. We would like to provide some information that we hope will ease frustrations or learning curves associated with this new technology. Precision touchpads work differently and use different gestures than previous touchpads.  I am providing links to support articles that explain this style of touchpad and the supported gestures.

  • Touchpad settings in Gnome

I would like to have my touchpad settings set so that when I make a three-finger drag it's the same as pressing the Super-button (to open the activities overview). Have looked in the settings for Mouse & Touchpad, but no such setting seems to be available. So I don't know where to go from here. Or if it is even possible. I have the 'xf86-input-synaptics' driver installed. When I run
xinput list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" | grep Capabilities
    it says
    Synaptics Capabilities (298): 1, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1
which evidently means that three-finger detection should be supported, but I can't seem to find any info about how to set it up..
    Please help!

Interestingly, having it installed or not makes no difference here, i.e. the button to re-enable the touchpad disappears. I'd say this is a GUI bug.

  • T60 Touchpad Replaced and not Working

I recently replaced my touchpad (palmrest) and plugged it in. I actually have to disable it in bios in order to use my trackpoint. I have the most recent drivers and utility for Ultra Nav.
When I select to activate my touchpad in the bios settings, I then get a warning triangle, and my trackpoint becomes "hidden" in the device manager and inoperable, I can't use it.
Any ideas on how to ge both working? I feel I am close!!

    Thanks for the reply,
The touchpad does show up in the bios, so I think the system board is whole, but who knows. I just tried to boot up with the trackpoint disabled and the touchpad automatic, and the problem I explained before where the device manager shows the ultranav pointing device with a warnign triangle and hidden. I think the synaptics driver files for the trackpoint are the same for the touchpad.
Is there way to test or check the system board?
Most diagnostic tests will be inconclusive. There are specific ways to test the system board, but it's not something you'd want to do, it would be far less work and cheaper to simply replace it then diagnose it, but getting back to your problem...   you didn't answer my question, so lets start from the beginning....
You replaced the palmrest/touchpad assembly...    Why?
Does the replacement have the same problem as the original?
If I wanted to dianose the problem I'd do it the fastest and cheapest way possible, by pluggin in a known good part and seeing if it works. That sure beats tracing and testing microscopic circuits for hours, something that lenovo repair centers don't even do, they simply replace parts. Used T60 parts are cheap, so whatever you may need shouldn't be a problem to get.
Regarding your drivers...   windows generic drivers will work, and I've never seen the problems you describe, but if you've installed improper drivers, it could have caused such a problem, but again, I really don't know what you did, or even what started all this and what problem you were trying to fix, but if you want to see if this problem is hardware or software, you can try booting from a Linux LiveCD, boot up with option to make no changes to your system and see if both trackpoint and touchpad work using Linux, if they do, then you have a driver problem, in which case I'd uninstall all mouse devices and reboot. Windows "should" enable generic mouse driver so you can use the system, then it would only be a matter of installing the proper drivers, , but do this AFTER you've determined it's software, not as a test, or you'd be likely to just complicate things even more.
You can get a Linux LiveCD at Ubuntu.com.

I just installed Windows 10 Pro and can't access my touchpad settings to get the scolling feature back.  A short while ago, when I connected my basic Microsoft mouse, the system did install a new driver for the mouse - could this be the problem? Or is it Windows 10?  Thanks for any help you can give. Toshiba Laptop Satellite C55-B

I had the same problem. The settings would crash. The synaptics driver update fixed that for me. However after adjusting some settings a new problem emerged. Three Finger Gestures have changed from the default Windows 10 ones to the old Synaptics gestures. There doesn't seem to be a way to change it back. I think the Synaptics driver needs another update.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993

              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
