Touchpad tapping and clicking

Hello.
I have a strange problem with the touchpad. I cannot select internet search result using the touchpad. I tried double tapping, right clicking, left clicking. It just won't work. I have to copy the link and paste the link in the URL. I already check the pop-up blocker.
Touchpad works fine on my internet home page. I can double tap(s) on a story, news, and other icons. No problems. It just when I do a search. I can only see the result, but cannot click on it, or double tap it.
I'm hoping someone out there with a similar problem. It is a laptop Pavilion dv7. I'm using Windows 7/64.

  • How to disable TouchPad 'tap to click' on Equium A200-15L under Vista

Until mid-December I had the Synaptics Touchpad 'tap to click' disabled. Then it somehow became enabled , the right-click menu item to change it greyed out and the mouse properties, settings etc contain no reference to it. It has been suggested that Windows Updates somehow interfered. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling touchpad drivers both directly from Synaptics and from the Toshiba site, but it hasn't helped. Apart from using the recovery disk and reformatting what can I do?
Toshiba Equium A200 15L Laptop (PSAE2E). Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Hi Juliana
I have read also about the Vista updates which could affect the touchpad settings for me it sound very mysterious
I thought about the same touchpad driver reinstallation procedure.
But it looks like this doesnt help to get the click functions back.
I think the recovery CD would be the last resort.
    Good luck

  • Both trackpad tap and click are unresponsive on system suspend/resume (i.e. after closing and reopening the lid)

Hi all, it's a while that I noticed a strange behavior.
Every time I suspend the System by closing the lid, I'm not able, after resuming to use the trackapd correctly.
Actually, on resume, single tap and click seems like not working.
The only way to have them back on track is restarting the system.
    Any idea?

    fiveinchwrench:
I used an electronics cleaning wipe to clean the case after I shut down.
Did you sprey it on directly or did you spray it on a cloth and wipe the keyboard and trackpad? If you did, it may have penetrated to the contacts. Incidentally, all you need is a damp, lint-free cloth to clean your computer.
Could the wipe have killed the trackpad?
    Possibly.
Would it have damaged the logic board also?
If you sprayed a lot of stuff on, it may have penetrated to the logic board. However, if the computer was shut off, and you are still able to start it up, it should be okay.
If the only problem it the trackpad and clicker, you can try lifting the upper case and cleaning the contacts etc. If still not luck, you may need to purchase and install a replacement upper case.
Unless you feel comfortable getting under the hood and seeing if you need to clean up a bit, I suggest that you take it to the Apple Authorized repair and have them take a look.
    Good luck.

  • Touchpad "Tap to click" misbehaves badly

The tap-to-click function misbehaves really badly for me (xf86-input-synaptics). It is mainly 2 problems:
When I move my mousepointer short periods of time (doesnt seem to go by distance, but it is in the range of 16px-64px depending on how fast I move) and then lift my finger of the touchpad, it reponds as a click.
When I tap-to-click on something that needs precision(a 8x8 button) I notice my pointer moves away alot, causing misclicks and irritation.
I am certain both of these are fixable (even if it requires some C-coding), since I get none of these problems in Windows 7.
PS. My touchpad has a really shitty design (you have to click on the touchpad itself really hard to press the mouse buttons) which makes "tap-to-click" pretty much obligatory.

    hi,
thanks for your reply.  i haven't had time to deal with this issue since i wrote about it in october.
i found the 'properties' window for the touchpad mouse but there is no reset button.  i continue to have this issue and it is becoming more frequent although i have not been able to identify what triggers the sudden shut down of the tap-to-click function.
but something new has cropped up: when the tap-to-click stops working, the next time i tap the touchpad, the pointer goes to the Start button!  this happens every time.  i don't know that anything is different?
any further pointers (forgive the pun) would be most welcome!

  • Touchpad moving and clicking without me

Hi I NEED HELP QUICK. I PURCHASED A HP Envy m6-n012dx ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AND I AM HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE TOUCH PAD. AFTER USING FOR 20 MINUTES OR SO THE POINTER STARTS TO MOVE AND CLICK WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE PAD. THE PAD STICKS AND @ TIME BECOME UNRESPONSIVE. I'VE ALREADY REMOVED AND RE-ADDED SYNAPTIC DRIVERS FROM HP SITE. NOT RESOLVED.
PLEASE HELP! FEEL LIKE I'VE WASTED A LOT OF MONEY ON THIS PURCHASE.

    Hi Tomsconi,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY m6-n012dx Notebook and having issues with the Touchpad and Touchscreen. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the mouse and Touchpad sensitivities. Here is a link to The HP Support Assistant. The HP Support Assistant will help with the drivers and software that are on your machine now. Here is a document on an update download for Windows 8.1 that might help. It is a recommended update for Touchpad issues.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Trackpad Tap and Click problem (won't click sometimes)

    Hello,
    I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2012 (MD104)
I had this problem since the beginning (i'm a new mac user for almost 7 months now), i'm really getting tired of this
sometimes (maybe 5-10 times a day) when i tap to click (or even really click with trackpad) it does not work (trackpad is fine , this is a software problem because i have also Windows on my mac and its fine there)
for example it happens when im clicking the Close button to close a window
then "i have to click elsewhere, any where, and then it will click just fine where it didn't work before"
I have Tap to click and Three Finger drag enabled (maybe it is related)
i searched a lot and did many things, neither of them worked
What should i do? any help is appreciated

See if deleting the System Preferences plist solves the problem:

  • T440s TouchPad - Tap and Drag - Where is the "locking drags" setting?

On my ThinkPad X220 TouchPad properties there is a Tap & Drap setting for Locking Drags (see below). When this is enabled you can tap twice on an item (and hold on second tap) to engage drag and then this will be locked until you tap again. The benefit of this is it is possible to use multiple discrete touchpad movements to move an item across the desktop without having to engage drag mode each time.
    Link to picture
This feature is not specific to my X220. I find it on lots of laptops and I find it extremely useful.
However, on my T440s I can't find such a setting. Am I missing something?
Moderator note; picture(s) converted to link(s) About Posting Pictures In The Forums

I was looking for this setting too. It's extremely helpful when you need to select text. After googling around and finding little to no information I figured it out on my own. I grabbed my old laptop and compared the registry before and after checking the "locking drags" setting. All what you need to do is find the key:
    HKU\S-1-5-21-*a-bunch-of-numbers*-1001\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2668,
and change the value of "Gestures" from 3 to 7. There is another similar key named TouchPadSMB2cTM2668. I was lazy to find out what key will affect the setting so I changed the valuge of "Gestures" too. After that log out / log in again or restart. It works perfectly for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • Synaptics Touchpad, double finger scroll and tap-to-click

I've recently lost tap-to-click functionality on my synaptics touchpad, I have no idea why because I haven't changed anything recently.
    Here's my related xorg.conf file:
    Section "InputDevice"

Option "SHMConfig" "false" # configurable at runtime? security risk
Option "MaxTapTime" "180" # max time in ms for detecting tap

  • Can't enable Tap-To-Click with ALPS touchpad

Hello, I installed Archlinux on my vaio and I am trying to get the ALPS touchpad to work.
I've tried the xorg.conf solution but tap-to-click doesn't work. So I tried using the HAL policy. This almost works, but I have to open gsynaptics tool and enable Tapping. I changed the values of MaxTapMove, MaxTapTime, even deleted them, nothing! The strangest thing is that tapping works at gdm, but it doesn't work after I login. I removed the input device from xorg.conf, nothing changes. If any log is needed please tell me.

Sorry, everything is solved! I haven't enabled tapping from gnome-mouse-properties... My bad..!

  • How can I turn off touchpad tap click?

I need to turn off the tap click on the touchpad of my dv4.  I turned it off when I first got the laptop a little more than a year ago, but apparently something in a recent upgrade turned it back on.  There is no icon in the task bar to change the properties like there was before.  There is nothing under mouse properties related to the touchpad or tapping.  I don't like the tap click.  It really messes me up when I am typing.  I know I can easily turn the touchpad on and off, but that is not a good solution.

The Touchpad on my HP Mini 210-1015TU is a nuisance when I am typing so I had it disabled.    For some unknown reason it has suddenly been enabled again.   Can anyone please tell me how I can DISABLE THE TOUCHPAD so I can use the normal mouse via the USB port.   Thanks!

  • Double tap and drag isn't working on touchpad

Hey everyone!  First time posting here so apologies if my post sucks! :P
Normally on a touchpad, you can double tap, hold your finger down on the second tap, and move the finger around to drag windows and highlight text.  This doesn't seem to work on my touchpad.
Instead, what seems to be happening is when I tap once, at the point when I release the touchpad the pointer changes its icon to the dragging icon (The one that looks like a hand grabbing something).  However, regular double tapping works fine e.g. when I want to maximize a window or select a paragraph of text.
    Some information about my setup:
I'm running arch on a Dell Chromebook 11
    I'm using CInnamon DE.
It seems that the settings in the Cinnamon config override the settings in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/<touchpad settings.conf>.
Case in point, I add the following lines into my config:
            Option          "TapButton1" "1"
            Option          "TapButton2" "2"
            Option          "TapButton3" "3"
and disable the "Tap to click" option using Cinnamon's GUI settings tool.  If I do this, tapping does not register as a click.
    I have tried the following:
Set the TapAndDragGesture boolean to true.  This doesn't seem to help.
Disable tap to click in Cinnamon's settings, thinking that perhaps the touchpad was recognizing a single tap as two taps.
Messed around with the MaxTapTime and MaxDoubleTapTime settings.
I can't seem to pinpoint the problem... is there some settings I am overlooking?

    Here check this page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics.
    It says the following.
$ synclient PalmDetect=1 (to enable palm detection)
$ synclient TapButton1=1 (configure button events)
$ synclient TouchpadOff=1 (disable the touchpad)

I accidentally unchecked "Tap to Click" on the Trackpad preferences and now I can't click on anything!

It happens to me ALL THE TIME. I'm getting pretty sick of this! It didn't start happening until maybe a month ago. I'm pretty fed up though!
And NOW. This is great. Ever since installing iLife 09 my keyboard randomly stops working. Sometimes I can bring it back by closing the display and then opening it again.
The crazy thing is that these issues are TOTALLY random. I've been on here for hours and nothing has gone wrong. Then out of no where...with no other applications run or doing ANYTHING I haven't been doing for hours...it all starts to go wrong. First it's tap-to-click in this pattern of working-not-working. Then it's the keyboard goes crazy.
I'm doing a large backup of everything at the moment. Then I plan on running disk utility from the installer disks and see if that helps. If it doesn't I'm uninstalling iLife 09 to start with and after that i don't know what.
I'm just REALLY tired of this!
