Touchpad Zoom

I want to disable the touchpad zoom on my laptop.  It's super annoying and keeps zooming my emails in and out while I'm typing.  The current driver for the device does not have a "pinch-zoom" check box in the Control Panel>Mouse>Mouse Properties>Device Settings, so I have not been able to remedy the issue with past postings advice.

I signed up so I could actually thank manda0515,you may have got it from the person who made this topic, but you helped me with my zoom issue. Which was driving me mad, so thank you.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite M505d.   I'm obviously doing something to the touchpad to make the screen zoom in and out.  I've tried everything I can think of to disable this feature but haven't been succesful.  There is a touchpad icon on the taskbar but no option to disable zooming on it.  I've also tried to fix things in the device manager but again can't find anything to work with.  Anyone know how to fix this poorly designed feature?

Jerry, thank you, as well, for your less than helpful reply.
If you actually read my first post you would see that I had already tried to disable the pinch zoom feature using the taskbar icon and the device manager.  And if you had read my other post you would see that I, as a follow-up, posted that pinch zoom apparently cannot be disabled with the particular Alps driver this computer uses.
Additionally, your advice to "dig deep" in the Control Panel is a great way to ensure a novice screws up their computer. I suppose telling someone to fool around with the registry to fix a problem is coming next.
Out of curiosity, did you reply to up your post count?  Or are you just a fan of talking...?

  • Touchpad zoom disable permanently

I want to disable pinch zoom for synaptics touchpad permanently, as it's too sensitive and changes zoom when two fingers are over the touch pad. I have disabled it configuration->Mouse and tactil panel->additional configuration->clickpad configuration->pich zoom. But after restarting windows, the configuration is active again.

Did you find Synaptics Clickpad in Control Panel? That is where all settings are for the touchpad.

  • T400: Touchpad Manufacturer Is? Zoom Possible?

On a T400,  who is the manufacturer of the touchpad?
How can I enable the touchpad zoom function (to make text bigger or smaller on a webpage) which is ostensibly activated by placing two fingers on a (Synaptic) touchpad and moving the fingers together or apart?
I am using a Linux operating system.   Currently Ubuntu.
An internet search has led me to find numerous instances of people trying to disable the zoom function.    Apparently it is inadvertantly activated too easily and disrupts their viewing experience.      It is called, in some quarters: Pinch Zoom.     This isn't working on the touchpad of the T400 I recently acquired, and I could use it--as the text on most web pages is generally too small for me to easily read.

  • Is there a fix for this?

I have an Ideapad U430. I understand that Windows 8 is garbage but is there anyway to fix the touchpad zoom out problems with this laptop? How about keyboard issues with unresponsive keys? Windows 8 sidebar flying open? I would think that the hardware folks would pressure microsoft to have a minimally functioning operating system.

if you don't like windows 8.1 then thats a personal issue.. i understand windows 8.0 sucked.. and yes it did.. surely..
but now we are in 2015 and though microsoft still screws up.. they did figure out that windows 8.1 (which is a ramped up windows 7 by the way!) needs to be like windows 7..  and they did what they could, they patched it up.. i now have windows 8.1 and it starts normal.. fast... and i use it like i would use windows 7..
what is the fundamental flaw? a company chose to use a brand of trackpad that sucks.. the flaw is choosing a company that makes a cheap cheap cheap laptop with cheap cheap cheap parts and components...
so where is the flaw?? you or the company..  well honestly .. kinda both..
i dont agree with a company using cheap parts and i don't agree with consumers buying from cheap companies..
i by the way have a lenovo laptop.. i am not that happy with it.. but now that i did "correct" most of these "fundamental flaws" you speak of.. it is just usable for me..
i didn't do enough research before i bought from lenovo.. and i jumped in.. cause guess what? i saw a cheap deal.. $1000 bucks for my laptop.. and even better, if i had spent that money on any other laptop i would have gotten so much better..
i am also coming from having a $2500 Apple MacBook Pro...   and guess what.. they don't skimp on their hardware.. of course now they are starting to use cheaper components though.. so we will see where that goes..   but with apple you just walk into a store and they replace your computer..

Considering the app for the iPhone is for iOS, you may have problems using it on the Mac (Mac OS X)
    Two different operating sysems.
From iTunes for the touchpad app:
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 5.1 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

  • How to switch off scroll and zoom functions of touchpad on Satellite L

    Hi.
Can anyone tell me how to switch off the scroll and zoom functions for the Synaptics Touchpad v7.2 .
Can't seem to do it via the Control Panel.
    Any suggestions.

    Hi buddy,
    > Can't seem to do it via the Control Panel.
You can only disable the virtual scrolling function if the touchpad driver is installed properly. The driver provides extended functions and allows you to disable/enable special features. If you dont have installed the touchpad driver download it on official Toshiba page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Then navigate to control panel as the previous user wrote for disabling the scroll function.
    Can you find it now?

  • Pinch zoom on Synaptics touchpad?

I have a Synaptics touchpad that supports nearly everything, according to this, and I would like to configure it to get pinch zoom working. In Windows pinch zooming works, so it's not a hardware issue. How would I go about doing this? Ideally, I would like it to emulate Ctrl+scrolling, so it could work on Chromium and Gimp.

WonderWoofy wrote:I have never heard of this "touchegg" before, so I am unsure of what it does.  But this is probably what you are looking for https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41592 .  There is also xf86-input-multitouch-git as well as xf86-input-mtrack-git.  Do a search in the AUR for xf86-input
Those are the X (low-level) touchpad drivers, but an application (window manager or standalone) is also needed to translate gestures to actions/commands.
    - Touchegg is a QT program
    - Easystroke is a GTK-program
Both pull in huge amounts of dependencies (100-200MB) to do something quite simple, so they are generally not what you want when using DWM.
The most simple solution i have come across is this Perl approach:
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/opens … index.html
Which is more or less a proof-of-concept, it uses a high-res timer module from CPAN for accuracy. I haven't tried it myself so i don't know how well it works, but it probably requires more work since it doesn't have a spiffy UI with settings but is a hardcoded script.
Ideally you'd want a really simple/small utility that lets you map context-aware gestures to commands. For instance:
    [Window: Chromium] 2-finger swipe-left == Mod1-arrowleft
    [Window: generic] 3-finger swipe-up == exec dmenu_run

  • T510: TouchPad no longer allowing for zoom in/out

My TouchPad is all the sudden no longer allowing for zoom in/out.  How do I restore that function.
Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

My T520 has recently developed a similar problem.
With no obvious warning it now seems unable to recognise the trackpad/point. I've tried various combinations of uninstalling/installing drivers etc with no success.
When clicking on the mouse tab in Control Panel an error message says: Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device. It then suggests removing the synaptics driver and then reinstalling other mouse drivers. This doesn't make sense as I don't have any other mouse drivers installed (bar the in-built Win7 ones which can't be removed anyway). Then rebooting the system results in no pointing devices being available at all. The trackpad gets recognised as a PS2-compliant device and prompts installation of drivers (from synaptic) which just gets back to square one.
Also, the control panel mouse tab won't show the ultranav utility even though that is installed properly.
So, I'm having to use an external mouse as the system doesn't seem to be able to properly use the trackpad/point. I'll keep troubleshooting but suspect this may be a software/driver issue as it was working perfectly up until recently and the hardware can still "see" the device. Both are enabled in BIOS.
Any other people experienced similar problems?

  • Hp 4510s probook - touchpad pinch--to-zoom disable

As the subject descibes... I'm trying to figure out how to disable the "pinch-to-zoom" on HP 4510s ProBook.
It's extremely annoying to be zooming in/out while typing in (e.g. MS Word) if I accidently touch the touchpad with my thumb(s). I'm not looking for adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad. I have done that. I'm looking for completely disabling the feature.
Any suggestions or a link to a manual would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

Hello vasheck, Fortunately, it is relatively easy to configure your touchpad to suit your preferences.
To start, open up the Control Panel from the Start menu. Then, change to "Classic View" (Vista) or change icon display to "Small icons" (Windows 7).
Double-click on "Mouse", and the Mouse Properties dialog will open up.
Click the "Device Settings" tab. Under the list of Synaptics devices installed on your system, click the "Settings..." button.
Now, the touchpad configuration window will appear.
Use this to configure your touchpad to work the way you want, there are lots of settings and videos on how to use them in this dialog, so feel free to explore.
If you want to disable pinch-to-zoom, you can do it by navigating to the "Pointer Motion -> Pinch" category or Zooming category (depending on the version of your driver).
Once you've got to the Zooming / Pinch Zoom option, simply uncheck it and click OK to disable pinch zoom.
Other settings, such as sensitivity, can be found here. Basically, every option relating to the operation of your touchpad can be found in this configuration tool. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
    I am an HP employee.

  • For some reason, I can no longer use these laptop touchpad functions: moving up and down a web page, and zooming. Help! I feel handicapped.

I used to be able to use these touchpad movements on my Samsung laptop, but not anymore.

Hi, I tried both, didn't work. It does say on the mozilla help page that the info may not be updated, so can you check (attached below) and tell me the latest if available? Thanks!
    ===========================
    1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
    ○ The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
    2. In the Filter field, type mousewheel.withnokey.
    3. Check these settings:
    ○ If mousewheel.withnokey.action does not have a value of 0, double-click on it and change it to 0.
    ○ If mousewheel.withnokey.numlines does not have a value of 1, double-click on it and change it to 1.
    1. If you changed either of the previous two settings, test scrolling to see if it works. If it doesn't work, or if you didn't change either setting, double click mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines to change it from true to false (or vice-versa).
