Touchscreen erratic while charging through power adapter

Hi, I have iPhone 4. When I charge my iPhone using power adapter, the touch screen behaves erratically -- e.g. when I press 3 on numpad, 9 may get typed or if I am on homescreen, and I tap on an application, a different app starts off. The phone works perfectly fine when charging thru my laptop's USB port.
Any suggestions -- is the power adapter faulty or is there some hardware problem?
Thanks
Sumit

After discovering that my partner's charger is fine and does not do this, I went to Apple Store to complain about faulty charger. turns out it was a cheap Chinese replica that came with my second-hand iPhone when I purchased it through eBay!!! Still the Apple Store had a quality spare and gave this to me for the inconvenience. How kind is that? Thank you Apple!
Now all problems solved. Happy Henk!

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info, then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information back here.

  • IPod Photo won't charge with Power Adapter but charges through Computer....

Hi got this problem... searched the discussion board but didn't find any satisfying answers.
Hope somebody can help me out here.
    Problem description:
My iPod photo won't charge using the power adapter from Apple. Bought a second one won't work, used different cables won't work either.
however it does charge via the USB port of the computer.
And it also charges via the car stereo plug (forgot the real name but it's from the apple store).
So does anybody have a similar problem? Could it be the iPod that is defective and also destroyes the Power Adapter maybe?
didn't try a different iPod to charge yet. So that's one thing left to try for verification.
untill then maybe somebody knows help, and it might be just a little setting thing.
    Thanks for the Help

    hi Rene!
hmmmm. it sounds like you've already tried most of the things listed on these documents:
    iPod's battery doesn't charge
iPod: Troubleshooting the Apple iPod AC Adapter
iPod: About the Apple iPod Power Adapter
from what you're reporting, i'm currently most suspicious of the electrical outlets you're using with those adapters. if you try switching it to a different outlet, does it charge properly then?

  • Weird touchscreen response while charging iPhone 4.?

    Hi,
I used to charge my iPhone 4 via USB Chord using my laptop only. But recently I shifted to charging it through the power adaptor which comes along the Apple iPhone 4. But during charging, my touchscreen acts weirdly, I touch somthing and some other app opens.. I cant even unlock it during charging..
I am using the Official Apple Power Adaptor and the Official Apple iPhone 4 USB Chord which comes inside the box along with Apple iPhone 4.
I even tried charging my iPhone 4 with Official Apple Power Adaptor BUT WITH the USB Chord of Apple iPod Classic also. But the problem still persists..
I have tried charging my iPhone with its cover on and even without its cover on.. But no relief..
    Please help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue on my iPhone 4S.  While charging, the touch screen will perform wildly inaccurately.  I will touch one spot on the screen and an entirely different section of the screen will react.
I bought this in to the apple store and got my phone replaced under warranty.
Still, my new phone is having the exact same problem.  This is incredibly frustrating, especially b/c I try not to charge my battery until it is very low (as you should with LI batteries).  This often means I'm charging my phone during the work day and cannot use it b/c of the screen issue.
Could it be a software issue since I am experiencing this on two different phones?

  • Is the "Apple Composite AV Cable" for Ipod touch a charger or power adapter

What I mean is that if it's plugged in all the time while playing it (on my stereo), is the battery being used (charger) anyway or is it directly getting the power from the power adapter therefore not using the battery therefore not using/draining the battery cycle (as a battery as a limited number of cycles in it's life). Perhaps it's not a charger/adapter thing but a Ipod Touch conception thing. If I use 24h a day the adapter, am I using the battery cycle or not? Who can answer me this for sure (Apple?)?
Also on a similar note, can I connect the Ipod touch on another PC to charge it (through the dock/USB cable) but without synching it (I know only one PC can synch but if I want to recharge the Ipod at my girlfriend's place on her PC without Itunes can I?)

Anyone else has an idea on the issue of if the Ipod touch uses the power adapter/charger as direct source of power and not through the battery? If the battery is now fully charged and the Ipod is playing (and plugged in) is only the adapter working or is also the battery?
remember the good old days when electronics could work with the adapter or the batteries of the time (non-lithium). If you didn't have a battery in it would work. Even if you did have a battery in, the adapter would be the source. I currently have a 20g Iriver and it displays a "plug" symbol when plugged in and playing and not the battery symbol which lets me to believe the battery is not being used.
I am concerned that if a lithium battery as lifetime of 500 cycles for example, and I use 5 hours a day the player (plugged in all the time) that 1 cycle will be done within 5 days even though I wasn't actually away from the power outlet. Of course I will use my Touch often away as well but overall by using 2h a day away and 3h a day plugged in, if it's the battery working all the time, my battery lifetime will be decreased by a lot.
Any ideas? Any way to ask Apple officially? email address? form they will respond to?

  • Mid-2009 13" MBP says "not charging" but seems to be slowly charging with power adapter

I have a mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM.  I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging."  I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have.  It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old.  It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential.  The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening.  The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.
Any ideas if this is a battery, laptop, or power adapter problem?  Unfortunately, I don't have a second power adapter to test that idea.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Recalling another similar thread, I can recommend you thoroughly clean the male and female MagSafe connectors. The gold pins and pads must be shiny bright and totally debris free. Use a Q-Tip moistened with alcohol, disconnect the power brick beforehand. Also, make sure the rubberized area around the connector in the Mac, where the magnet lies and the steel ring around the cable connector nestles, is completely free of anything that can prevent the two from fully mating and ensuring a tight grip. Here's more info, look at the pics on #7: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713  (click on the triangles to have them drop and show the pictures)

  • IPad won't charge using power adapter but will charge via USB

I have an iPad 1 that recently stopped charging using the power adapter. "Broken power adapter or cable" I thought and reached for a spare that I have. That didn't work either. The original power adapter however DID charge another iPad without any problems, so the problem cannot be with the adapter or cable.
Now this is the wierd bit - using the original cable plugged into my laptop I get the usual "Not charging" message but the iPad DOES charge slowly this way.
I rebooted the iPad, restarted it in recovery mode and restored the firmware, cleaned out the 30-pin connector port - all those useful bits of advice that you find on the internet but all to no avail. The iPad just will not charge using any of the many  original Apple iPad charger sthat I have been able to get my hands on but will only charge on an underpowered USB port!
The 30-pin connector must work otherwise it wouldn't charge via USB. Can there be some kind of wierd internal hardware defect that might cause such behavior?
I fear that if I take a 3 year old iPad to the Apple Store they might just give me their best smile and show me the latest iPads but this old iPad works fine otherwise and I don't really want to replace it.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • 2nd Gen Shuffles charge with power adapter, not seen at all by computer

I have three Gen 2 Shuffles (mine and kids), and am having same problem with all three.
If I plug them into either of our home computers - an iMac and a brand  new Macbook Pro - they don't even seem to be recognized at all by the computer as even being plugged in, nor will they charge. The orange light flashes on for a split second when I plug in the USB cord, then goes out.  Nothing else happens.  I have two USB cords - same with both.
If I plug the same USB cords into the power adapter and plug into the wall outlet - all three iPods charge, with either cord.  So the cords seem to be working fine.
If I plug the USB cord into my work PC - a Dell that doesnt' even have iTunes on it -- the computer recognizes the iPod as a disk.  I've done this many times for many years to charge it at work if it was low, with no problems.  And I haven't plugged the kids' into my work computer.
I am pulling my hair out here. I've read about others with a similar problem -- but in those cases at least the iPod seemed to be communicating with the mac, but not showing up in iTunes.  In my case, I can't even get anything to happen!!
    Would really appreciate any advice.
Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 10.5.8, and Macbook Pro bought last week with OS-X Lion.

    Nobody has any ideas?

  • Touchscreen crazy while charging

My bionic is crazy while charging. It types ga bunch of letters when i touch one,it zooms in when barely tapped or it takes multiple touches to work .. its possessed

Mine did the same thing for the first time today.  I had it plugged in charging -- using the supplied Motorola charger but not the Motorola USB cable (since the supplied one is so **bleep** short).  I was writing something with Swype, and it was behaving erratically adding crazy letters and caps and producing a squiggly line that did not represent my finger motion.  I unplugged the cable and it then worked fine.

  • MSI Ge70 Getting No Power Through Power Adapter Consistantly

My 1 and a half year old MSI Ge70 recently starting having power problems, a week ago my current power adapter appeared to stop working, as I could get not charge the battery. I made sure it wasn't just the power outlet by plugging it into multiple different other outlets around my house. I ordered a new one (bottom image, since I am apparently not allowed to post links), which not only was supposed to be for GE70s, but it also appeared to have the same amperage and output. I got it in the mail and plugged it in, and it worked for about 5 ish hours (which is a lot longer than my battery life, I should add, as well as the fact the battery was completely drained). And then it just... turned off, I wasn't paying attention to it at the time, but I turned around and it was off, and would not start again. Four hours later, the battery charge light went back on, and it turned on again. I'm seeing sporadic power input getting to the battery/computer from both power adapters, sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn't, but it may be the LAPTOP's charging port, I'm not entirely certain how to tell (I do know that my NEW power adapter is constantly on, because it has a power indication light). Any help would be appreciated.

At this point, it's pretty much assured that there's something wrong with the laptop.
I would get in contact with MSI and get an RMA.

I just bought a brand new Magsafe adapter 60w for my macbook but it seems that when i plugged in to my macbook, the battery status showed "not charging".  I have to disconnect and plug in again.  This also happened when I used my previous power adapter, that is why I got a new one.  Is this a common problem?  Please advise what could be done.
