  • Ideapad U410 no main hard drive, won't turn on after updates.

    Hi,
I just imported an Ideapad u410 from the US to the UK. It turned on fine, I started noticing the wifi proglem everyone else are having. No big deal, got a usb wifi adapter laying around I can use. Then I noticed that the hard drive (C, no other harddrive visible) was rediculously small (20-30 some GB, I forgot the exact figure) with almost all of it's space used. I figured this was a partition for the OS and that for whatever reason the rest of the drive wasn't showing. I noticed the windows update icon showing on the shutdown button and figured perhaps setup wasnt complete so I pressed restart. It kept restarting, downloading more updates and restarting, I walked away to have dinner when it proclaimed it would now install update 1 of 96. When I came back the laptop was off. I turned it on to be met by an endless cycle of BSOD during startup followed by a failed startup repair... I guess there wasn't enough space on the C drive for the windows update. What do I do now?
    Solved!

What os do you have? The main problem is the one key recovery, so if not interested it should be similar to the ordinary installation if there are no cache ssd installed.

  • Ideapad U410 windows 8. one button recovery

    HI,
I've a IdeaPad U410 that ships with Win 7 and a cool little feature called one button recovery.
The idea is that when the pc is off, you can hit this button and invoke the recovery partition to reload win 7.
Having update the PC to Win 8, I would liek to setup the same operation but with win 8.
Has anyone been succesful with this, how'd you do it?
    I see to steps:
Setup a Win 8 Recovery partition, which looks harder than it sounds.
Tell the pc to look at it for the one click recovery.
Over to the Lenovo masses, your thoughts are most welcome.
    Stan

    Hi Stan,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that after upgrading the OS (Operating System) from Windows 7 to Windows 8, OKR (One Key Recovery) partition will lose its path with the Software and cannot create the recovery partition for Windows 8 and OKR button will not work as expected.
Do post us back for further queries.
    Best Regards

  • Alt codes on ideapad u410

How do I do alt codes on the ideapad u410?

    Thanks, ishaan.
I hadn't seen your post, nor the knowledgebase article.
It works on my Yoga13, yet it's a little awkward to hold down the Alt key on the physical keyboard while tapping the on-screen keypad's numbers to achieve special characters... unless I'm missing some kind of an "Alt lock" function for the on-screen keyboard. In any case, it's certainly better than no capability at all.
    Cheers.

  • Ideapad U410 - No WLAN Connection At School

    Hello Lenovo Community!
I'm currently dealing with an issue with wireless connectivity at my school.
    Background:
I have a Lenovo U410 with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz, 1701 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s). I'm currently running Windows 8. My computer also has an Intel Centrino N2200 wireless card. WIth this wireless card, I"m able to connect to most wireless networks. I can connect to my home network which is a 802.11g network with WEP security. I bought this computer in late April 2013 at Newegg.
Our school has two wireless networks. Both networks are 802.11n. One with WPA-2 Enterprise encryption and the other that is open (insecure). When I try to connect to the encrypted network at school, I type in my username and password, but it refuses to connect. There is no connection to the school's wireless network at all. When I connect to the second unencrypted network, I'm able to connect with no internet access but with network access. Note that Ethernet still works. When I disconnect from either network to try and connect to the other one, both networks disappear and I'm forced to disable/renable the adapter.
Note: I was able to find a driver that allowed me to connect to the networks with no problems. I have yet to relocate that driver.
Note: I'm not able to go to school to try and test out any solutions, but please try and provide as many as you can! Thanks! I"m thoroughly stumped.
    Things I've Tried:
I have tried to find every single driver on the planet that could help me with this wireless issue. Like I said... I found a driver that worked. The only fuzzy memory that I have of that driver is that it came from Lenovo in ShenZhen.
When I install drivers, I always uninstall the previous driver via device manager before installing. I always delete the previous directories where old driver setup files may still be. With every single driver I try, I get the exact same result.
I've tried drivers from Lenovo for the U410, the U310, the U410 Touchscreen, etc. None have worked so far. I've also tried backdating drivers to Windows 7 and Windows XP. None have worked here either. I've tried drivers from Intel for the Centrino N2200 Wireless Card with no success.
If somebody has any solutions or has found a driver that I'm talking about, please post it!!
Here are some drivers that I already tried:
    0ttp16ww.exe
    0wwi02w8.exe
    0wwl13w8.exe
    Wireless_15.8.0_De64.exe
    WIreless_15.8.0_e64.exe
    h1wf05ww.exe
If you require any more information, please feel free to ask. I can't go to the school to try and access the network. Any diagnostic information will have to be from what I already have.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Brettd,
    > now no connection at all. Connects to modem with "limited activity"
Thats confusing. At the moment do you have no connection or limited? Both is not possible ;)
I would recommend a WLAN driver update and you can download newest WLAN driver here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
Also make sure that MAC address is not blocked in router and update the firmware of your router.

  • Ideapad U410 wont start - Motherboard failure?

So I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad U410 almost exactly 1 year ago. I bought it to use at college because of its slim design and lightweight. I have absolutely loved this computer up until a week ago when it unexpectedly wouldn't start. The computer was extremely hot and when I tried turning it on it cycled through 3 screens. The first was the Lenovo start screen, the second a screen with some writing on it and the third a black screen. I brought my computer into the tech people at my college and they said that my hard drives were perfectly fine, but that something was wrong with my motherboard and they didn't know what. I was told that my situation was pretty much hopeless. I've tired using the recovery button and everything, but nothing has seemed to work. Is there any hope for my computer?
I am extremely angered and frustrated that this happened so soon after the purchase. If this is the quality of Lenovo computers then I am never purchasing another one, and I will highly recommend all of my friends and family to do the same.
Here are the pictures of what the screen does:

I had the same problem .. I phoned Lenovo support, took it to nearest service centre and they replaced the motherboard as it was under warranty. It took several days to a week as the part needed to be shipped to them, however I got it back as good as new,
I have no complaints with the service that they provided.
You may even have an extended hardware warranty as Lenovo ship their product with flyers .. check your paperwork.
Also your consumer rights are not affected by the warranty period .. learn those and then discuss it with Lenovo support.

  • Ideapad U410 Touch Hinge Fail

Hi. I'm located in India. Got my IdeaPad U410 Touch from the US around 1.5 years ago. Now the right side hinge came off the lid AND shattered the screen. Unable to find a replacement with the Lenovo service centre in India.
There is no email address where I can write to request for spare parts that I can have shipped to India for repairs also. Had to buy a new laptop so that work does not suffer...
    Can someone here help? Atul

    Hi Atulhyd,

  • Ideapad U410: Improve Wifi range?

    Hi,
with my new Ideapad U410 I recognize large differences comparing to my thinkpad edge concerning the range of wifi.
Is it possible to improve this?
maybe with an other wifi nic?
    greetings

Hi FastDun, welcome to the forums,
sorry you haven't received a reply as quickly as you would have liked, but this is a peer to peer forum it can take some time for the right person to come along with the right answer; forums in general usually require a little patience.
That said, it sounds to me as though you have a possible problem with a firewall software.  There are a few posts in the last week where it seems McAfee has been the cause of the problem, happened also to a friend of mine.
Can you connect using safe mode with networking?  If so and you can't connect under normal Windows operation this would confirm a software firewall is the culprit in which case I would suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling the software after a new start.

  • Ideapad u410 now shipping with windows 8

Lenovo -- what is going on????
    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.det...
All the u410 models are shipping with windows 8... yet your support site win 8 upgrade guide has not been updated.
Personally, I already returned my u410 because of this mess, but there are a lot of people here who deserve an answer.

    I figured out Lenovo's scheme:
    1) offer no assistance whatsoever and remain completely silent when asked repeatedly to outline the steps to upgrade the U410 to windows 8
    2) meanwhile, ship the NEW U410 with Windows 8 pre-installed and only 6gb ram for $799:
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/pd/Lenovo-IdeaPad-U410-Notebook/productID.256043800/sear...
    3) reduce the price on the Windows 7 U410 to $599:
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/pd/Lenovo-IdeaPad-U410-4376/productID.250640400/search.t...
So, the only way to get a PROPER win 8 install on the U410 is to pay an extra $200.

  • Ideapad u410 display and suspend problem

    Hello,
My Problem is, that when I close the lid of my ideapad u410 it suspends, but when I open it again it sometimes works as expected, but most of the times the screen is displaced. (Everything is moved about 500 pixels to the right and a bit upwards too.)
For now I have set my laptop to completely shutdown when I close the lid, which works fine, but I would really prefer to get proper suspend working.
I also experienced this displacement once or twice when booting the laptop normally.
this is the output of xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 1368 x 768, current 1368 x 768, maximum 1368 x 768
It's weird because the actual resolution of my screen is 1366x768, and I noticed that when I move my mouse to the left or right border of the display, the screen actually moves these 2 pixels to the left or the right.
This might be a whole other problem, but they could be connected too, I guess.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119M [GeForce 610M] (rev a1)
I am currently using the nouveau driver.
Another problem I noticed, that might or might not be connected to the first two, is that I can't change my tty.
When I press ctrl+alt+Fx the screen just goes blank and I can't even change back to my previous session.
(Usually to get the function keys on an Ideapad u410 it is necessary to press the Fn key, but I changed that bios setting.)
If further information would be helpful, tell me what you would like to know.
Thanks in advance and a nice weekend,
    Alfred

So, nobody knows what to do?
Or is it just a problem that can't be fixed?

Try doing an OKR backup. Click OneKey Recovery icon and select backup. Specify an external drive (do not use the failing hdd). Make at least two backups just in case the first one is defective. Call tech support in preparation for a replacement job.

  • Is my laptop charger broken or is there something wrong with my laptop (ideapad U410)?

I've had my ideaPad U410 for about a year and a few months (august 2012) and it has been fine. Recently, whenever I plug in my charger in the bottom right notification tray, it doesn't show that my laptop is charging. I tried multiple times and it doesn't work. Is there something wrong? What should I do?
Where can I get a replacement if it is indeed my charger that is broken?
    Thank you

If you can run the laptop on the battery alone then it is more than likely still being charged by the charger when the machine is plugged in.  If you know someone with a voltmeter you could have them check to be sure that the charger is outputing the correct voltage.
If the battery is still being charged, what I would do is uninstall and reinstall the Lenovo Power Management software.  That should correct the icon probem you are experiencing.  The Power Management software can be downloaded from Lenovo's download page at the link below........

  • Ideapad U410 Refurb from outlet - "Battery is not detected"

    Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a refurbished Ideapad U410 touch from the lenovo outlet website and received it a few days ago. I charged the laptop and it says "battery is not detected" in the notification area. Once I unplug the charger, the laptop will instantly shut off and can't be used unless there is a charger connected. From what I understand, the battery can be missing, wires disconnected or faulty, or the battery is completely dead. Since I purchased it just over a week ago, I have a 21 day full warranty and another limited 1 year warranty on top of that.
I've contacted lenovo support over the phone and have been redirected in circles over 5 times without being able to get a replacement or ship it back. I don't want to remove the bottom cover either since that will void my warranty. Can someone please help me out with a direct number or who to contact? I've been told Post Sales Support is the correct department but I can't seem to ever reach it....
    Thanks in advance,
    Mitchell

  • Ideapad U410 not working in Normal Mode

    Hi,
My Lenovo Ideapad U410 has suddenly stopped working in normal mode. If I need to open a link or an important document, I open it in a safe mode.
Has anyone faced a similar kind of issue? I don't want to format the system as i would first like to know the root cause. The laptop is within a warranty period however Ideapads don't have an international warramty i guess.
    Any help would be appreciable.
    Thanks,

This is cause by some conflict/defective in the installed drivers. Try doing the procedure describe in this link. It also described on how to determine which is causing the problem.

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410: part of screen is white

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410 and the left part of my screen is uniformly white after turning on the laptop. It's a rectangle about 1 inch long, from top of the screen to the bottom.
I got this suddenly pretty much a month after buying the laptop (it appeared suddenly and I didn't do anything to cause it), and then the area of the white rectangle got bigger after I mistakenly dropped my laptop yesterday.
Would buying a new screen and installing it fix this, or could the problems be more besides the screen?
And is this covered by limited warranty?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dsav6,
As per your concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the graphics driver of your system from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073650
Afterwards, please restart the system and check if the issue still persists then it needs a personal assistance and it will be covered under warranty.
    Regards,
