Touchscreen gone wonky

All of the sudden my iPhone touchscreen has gone wonky. Sometimes it doesn't respind at all, sometimes it types a whole series of letters.
This is true for emails, contacts, Facebook - across applications. Making me crazy. I had a protectivce screen covering but took it off thinking that might be the problem. NOT! Help me.

Basics right out of the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. If you tried ALL these steps, then there is no "fix", as it's likely a hardware issue. If your phone is under warranty it will be replaced free of charge unless there's obvious damage to the phone.

Java gone wonky!!

I've tried out one of the lastest hint from MacWorld which you can globally expand or shrink the application GUI, using the following command.
defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleDisplayScaleFactor .75
But after I've played with it and set it back to 1, my NetBeans (java) IDE has gone wonky.The text are overlayed, the tree arrow does not display, scrollbar missing, weird font etc... Apparently someone else is experiencing similar problem with another java application.
I just tried emptying /library/cache and ~/library cache and fix permission using disk utilities and restarting many times. But my java IDE is still wonky.... =(
Help me restore my Java environment please.....

the file in question is in fact in the ~/Library/Preferences folder... however it is hidden...
the name of the file is .GlobalPreferences.plist
you can remove it by running this command from your terminal
'rm .GlobalPreferences.plist'

CS5 Offset Path gone wonky

Been offseting paths .25" for a couple of weeks. Now AI has decided to offset the path both .25" and -.25" at the same time. Not good.
My first step would be to trash prefs. Can someone tell me how to save my actions before I trash the prefs. Can someone suggest a different solution to the wonky offset path thing that's going on?

I would like the preference to be user defined then after the user defines it once they can restore the preferences automatically to that defined preference and not have to manually do it each time AI requires a clean preference folder.

Safari gone wonky

I have a chat room that I used to be able to click on to links by others. I never could copy and paste myself. Now I can't even click links.
So, I tried to reload Safari. I get a message stating:
You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer.
Only thing is, I have 10.5.5 so I shouldn't be getting this message.
So I reloaded 10.5.5 and that didn't work either.
I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Right. I didn't delete anything. I just moved Safari to the trash as sort of a holding position. But I didn't empty it. After trying to reload Safari, which didn't work, and the system, which did load but didn't change anything, I pulled Safari out of the trash and put it back in the application folder and so on...
Then I loaded Firefox. It works. It's a little too PC for my taste, but it works.
Thanks for the advice. I will try loading Safari from the disc.
By the way. I regularly fix the permissions. That was the first thing I tried. I am still baffled about why Safari went wonky on me. It worked for a while after I loaded the 10.5.5 update so I doubt if the problem is there.
Just so you know, I also use Camino. But in a Parachat chat room it's worse than Safari. Apple really should do something about running the latest Java updates that are available to PC users. It's almost the only complaint I have about the OS on this computer.

Thread Formatting Gone Wonky

I have seen similar, in the past, but for recently. This thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/6034224#6034224 goes "wonky" at Reply #22, and it appears that whatever has happened, carries over to following Replies. Does anyone know the cause, or better yet, the fix. I looked at Reply #22 carefully for any formatting code, but saw nothing out of the ordinary, but maybe it's beyond the reach of my MOD console.
Any comments, or help (John C??? ) would be appreciated.

This may be related with the way the list in message #22 was bulleted. I copied and pasted part of the list to Word, and this is what I got:
I see normal spaces after the bullets and, as I am no heavy user of Word, I don't know that those strange spaces after some elements of the list and before the pargraph indicators mean.
And of course I have no idea if this is really the cause for the format problem, or how to correct/prevent this break if it is...

Z1 gone wonky

Hi guys, I'm back again.
Anyways, the top 3rd of my touchscreen has become unresponsive to touch! I can't swipe down from the top to get at the notifications and settings menus, and the top 2 rows of apps are untouchable. If I press the power button I can touch the all the buttons except power off. So I can't even reboot in safe mode. I can't turn it off, but did let it power down until it shut itself off. I figured rebooting might help, but nope. And when at the home screen (or any other base screen) the rotate function of the screen doesn't work, meaning I have to read stuff sideways. However, within an app (that I can open, that is) the rotate function DOES work. What is going on here? I noticed a scratch in the screen from the middle left edge (approx) up and about 1 cm in at the top of the screen. Could this really be affecting the screen function wo much? My last smartphone's touch worked fine despite having a big spiderweb crack in the corner of the screen. Thanks for any help. Do I have to send my phone away for repair?

IMac mouse has gone wonky

I have the original round mouse that came with my iMac and in the last week or two it has started to 'skip' -- the cursor will get hung up for a second and then move again, but rather jerkily. Earlier this evening the cursor stopped completely, although it seems to work reasonably well now -- if I use the mouse on the upholstered arms of my desk chair! Someone suggested it might need cleaning, but I can't figure out how to get it apart to do so -- I tried Mac Help and it wasn't any help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

The original Apple Pro mouse cable frays in the chord just as it exits the mouse, over time, and shorts out causing symtoms similar to yours. You can't see the fray by looking at it thru the exterior covering. This can happen to third party mice over time too.
Mine does it. I plugged it into a different port, so the chord exits the mouse in a different direction, and have had very few freezes since. Once I get over my frugalness (cheapness!) I'll buy a new one.
So, try a known good mouse to see if that's the problem. If you still have trouble post back!

FWD & RW Controls Gone Wonky

I've had my Creative Zen 8gb for not quite 8 months. A couple of months ago the RW control started doing this very annoying thing where I would be holding down to rewind (I use it for audio books so sometimes I want to go back several minutes), and suddenly the player would skip to the next track (yes, FORWARD). Yesterday, the FWD control started doing the same thing, only skipping BACKWARDS a track.
Anyone ever heard of something like this, and/or have any notion whether it can be fixed? Or am I going to get a new MP3 player for Christmas?

The cleanup seems to have done it, though I sure don't understand how. :-) I didn't have to do the full restore/reformat option.
The buttons even felt odd before, like they weren't pushing properly, and now they feel normal again. (That's gotta be my imagination, though.)

IPod Touch 4 has gone wonky even after factory reset!!!

I have an iPod Touch 4. It has the latest o/s (6.1.3, there isn't anything newer available). I am running the latest iTunes. I have a pc with windows 7. Everything was working great up until about a week ago. All of a sudden my ipod crashed and got stuck in a boot loop... I couldn't get it to respond any other way so I did a factory reset and restore. I had massive issues after that -- most of my apps wouldn't sync/install. Very little would work. Basically it's useless. So I did another factory reset and restore. Same problem. Must have done this a dozen times. It takes a long time to do a restore btw and it fails on top of that...
So today I finally did a factory reset and set it up like new instead of doing a restore. I installed only a few apps, not all. It appeared to work ok. I just did a sync and started to install more apps and viola -- funky iPod again... It appears to work, apps open, you can even play or use them. Then randomly it turns screen off, closing the app and appears to reboot (but it doesn't reboot every time)... Things do work on it, I get push notices ok... I had turned off the screen lock thing so I didn't think it should be turning the screen off anymore...
I might add, even during a sync it appears to be doing something -- it beeps, screen goes black, apple logo come up, it comes up again but its super fast so I am not sure if it's rebooting itself or what? The sync just sits there waiting... So it never appears to be dropping the connection...
This is driving me batty!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried doing searches online and it appears I am not alone... Is this some kind of problem with the latest version of itunes?
Is it my ipod going belly up?
I bought this used off amazon about 1 1/2 months ago... Should I contact the seller for replacement?
Suggestions?
If I took it to the apple store I am sure it's not under warranty so I don't think they would help me...

it looks like it may have been a bad app or multiple bad apps... or maybe even corrupted stored data...
it appears to be working ok now -- i've added about 1/2 my apps back... a lilttle at a time... doing backups before adding anything new each time... and it's ok... there were only a few games I cared about keeping the data for and I was able to pull that data out of some old backups using iBackup Robot... careful to pull ONLY the data for a handful of apps, NOT all the data for everything... I even decided to give up on 2 games and start over again cause I suspect they may have been part of the problem as they have new updates all the time and the updates are usually flawed.. so i just started over on those 2...
so the lesson Illaass to learn here is, before you jump in going on about how it's a bad logic board which it appears NOT to be -- let the discussion I was hoping to have with others and not you (no offense, others who actually have had this problem not someone parroting back what he's read) take place...
and if you see someone posting a similiar problem to mine -- suggest what I did first! cause most of us (including myself) don't have $199 sitting around doing nothing to buy a new ipod with... lol

Emergency ! login page gone wonky

Our APEX server is producing an imageless login page that doesn't work. There is a box with workspace,username and password but the login button is ineffective.
Yesterday a chap was trying to do a mass upload of images and he ran a script (11g, Linux) called apxldimg.sql followed by apex_epg_config.sql. I suspect they may be connected but he says that the system ran fine after he rans the scripts.
What is the diagnosis ?
Is there a way of exporting all my instance applications and re-installing APEX ?
Or can I recreate the executable source code for APEX and leave the applications intact ?
Or is there a simple explanation for all this ?

i am very happy that i am not the only person who faced this type of the problems. I did export on all the applications developed and stored separate folder. I also created dmp and stored in the same folder. I reinstalled dmp and all applications after installing apex 3.2 It works fine. Still finding the reason for such behaviour and repairing is an interesting task. Hence please wait for someone to lend help and when you don't get try the above.

Safari has gone wonky.

Safari won't open many websites, including Gmail and Yahoo. All I get is a white screen with no error message. I have emptied the cache, restarted Safari, etc. This started the day before yesterday. Suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

WYSIWYG Gone Wonky. Why ?

If I browse the web page, it is starting to look exactly how I want it which is fine.
The problem in Design View everything is seriously misplaced and it is not possible to tell what the page will look like. I intend to use the page for a template and if I cannot see what the page will look like, it will be a big problem. Can anyone help pinpoint how I can get the WYSIWYG to work better?
If I cut out the sidebarcontainer of the HTML, the WYSIWYG is restored to a normal state. So there must be something about the sidebar container causing the problem.

I often encounter this. As Jon says, Design view is junk. I rarely use it myself. I much prefer Split View with Live View and I mainly edit in the code view panel.
A couple of things you can do.
Work with CSS turned off. View > Style Rendering > untick Display Styles. This has no effect on Live View or Preview in browsers. It renders un-styled content so you can work with it.
Use Design-Time Style Sheets.
Dreamweaver Help | Use Design-Time style sheets
A good option when working with Templates. I have made special DT Style sheets for several clients to mitigate Design View's many inherent shortcomings.
Don't rely on Design View for accurate rendering. You'll never get it to work 100%.

IPhoto '09 gone wonky

For some reason I have lost most of my pictures in iPhoto. I have looked over this forum, and it seems that others are having similar problems with iPhoto '09. I checked my iPhoto date and it is version 8.1.2. I tried to restore it from my mackup disc, and it seems to be corrupted as well, in that all of the iPhoto pages that come up from the backup disc look just like the current on in iPhoto. I tried to rebuild the library, as per a suggestion from someone in the forum. Nothing changed.
All suggestions will be appreciated.

It seems that about half of my over 5k pictures are missing. The current page that I see when I open iPhoto has none of my recent albums. When I click on one of the pictures in an album, it may open up as a regular photo, or it may have the ! mark. Many of the spots where a picture should be is just a thumbnail sized rectangle. What is really funny, is that when I open the time capsule to try and replace the flawed page with an older one with all of the correct pictures, all of the time capsule iPhoto pages are just like the damaged one my computer. What I am doing is opening iPhoto, then clicking on Enter Time Capsule.

MX 2004 has gone wonky

Also, the Title line is blank although the text is there when
you look at a page online. Plus, a page will just start scrolling
up or down on its own and there's no way to stop it. Tonight, it
was inserting paragraph code all by itself.
I'm on a Mac, running OSX Panther. I trashed the preferences
for Dreamweaver but that didn't fix anything.
This all just started to happen out of the blue on Friday. I
did not make any changes to Preferences or anything.
Should I uninstall Dreamweaver and then reinstall from the
disc?

My display settings have gone wonky, how do I reset to last date they were correct?

I have no idea how I corrected this the last time, I forgot to write it down. I've tried every system preferences , tried all the diff settings on my monitor, I know it is an easy fix... Help? I know it involved going back to the last time I used my computer. I simply can't rem the steps.

No, thanks anyway, not the problem. I finally got into resetting the size in my display prefs, but as before, it's still not quite as easy to read as it was. I click my way through each res setting, hoping I'll find my old settings. I can read this now, the window is a comfortable size after dragging it out a bit, but the various areas of font are just a little way off.
