Touchscreen/Touchpad

Hello, I own a touchscreen computer but it's been giving me problems lately. Whenever I try to use the touchpad after touching the touchscreen while browsing the internet it seems to lock itself and not work. It works on my desktop but not on the internet. The only way I could solve the issue is by closing my tabs and opening the internet again. It's really inconvenient and I was wondering if there was a solution to it.I tried looking up solutions or tips on how to get my touchpad to work without having to shut my tabs but it doesn't seem like this happens to many others. The best way I fix the problem now is my relaunching my Chrome tabs in Windows 8 Mode, then launching them back on Desktop Mode. It's a waste of time and I would like to know why my touchpad does that. *Note: I do not have a light on the top left corner of my touchpad, as many other HP computers do.Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your Touchscreen and or Touchpad with Windows 8. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating. I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

  • Touchpad cpu to 100%

    Dear felow arch users,
Since a few days I have some problems on my laptop. Using the touchpad makes my cpu going to 100% on the 4 cores.
I've reinstalled the package xf86-input-synaptics but it doesn't help.
    My xorg.conf:

Shouldn't be the problem because only my ati graphics card is configured in it.

If anyone has a solution for this problem I'd be more than happy to hear about it.
    Thank you in advance.

    EDIT:
In my Xorg.log i found the next lines according to my touchpad:

    Okay,
I fixed it and I'm posting my solution so other people having this problem might find their solution !
    So I moved my xorg.conf to xorg.conf.d/10-ati.conf.
Next I commented out everything in my xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf which I didn't need. Like the section touchscreen, touchpad, ...
Next I put the next few lines in xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "touchpad catchall"
    Driver "synaptics"
    MatchIsTouchpad "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    Option "TapButton2" "2"
    Option "TapButton3" "3"
    EndSection
This did the job and made it work properly again...

  • Touchpad touchscreen problems (erratic behavior/not responding correctly/etc) temporary solution.

I bought a HP Touchpad about a month or two after it came out. It worked pretty much as you'd expect it to until some time ago. I started getting a problem where the screen would go crazy and not respond correctly to my touch inputs. Web pages would jump all over the place, cards would zoom out, etc, in other words, they would behave erratically. After some testing I noticed that certain areas  of the touchscreen would NOT respond at all to inputs while others would make the screen go crazy like I mentioned previously. I looked for information on the web to see if other people where having the same problem and found reports of the same behavior. Unfortunately there where no solutions offered. At that point I tried turning on and off the Touchpad which did not resolve the problem. My next step was to try to reinstall the OS with WebOS Doctor, but I read a post where the user reported similar behavior and reinstalling with WebOS Doctor didn't fix the problem. Needless to say I was bummed out since I figured it was a hardware problem with the touchscreen. After more testing I found a temporary solution to the problem which seems to suggest that the probem could be software. The solution when you get the problem is to hold down the power button and the home button at the same time and keep them pressed until the screen shuts down and the touchpad restarts. Once the OS comes back up it works like it is supposed to until you get the next episode of screen epilepsy. At that point you need to do the procedure again and it will fix the problem temporarily. Usually the fix lasts for a few days in my case. The fix also solves other problems I have with the touchpad. Problems like, videos not playing fluidly or freezing every few seconds although the sound plays fine (youtube), sound gets messed up (sounds are played in a robot like pitch), and others. If anybody has questions or other suggestions let me know, I will answer the as best as I can.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

I think the YouTube and sound problems are separate from the other erratic behaviour.  Recently my touchpad won't play YouTube videos beyond certain points, starting a few seconds in possibly due to the advertising pop-ups - I can skip forwards, but that means I miss crucial parts.  My sound also goes 'robot-like' until a reboot, which is incredibly annoying!  Your touchscreen problems may be specific to your device - try going to Device Info / Diagnostics and see if that tells you anything.

  • Will there ever be the opportunity to use the touchpad as a touchscreen equivalent?

I would like the ability to select my touchpad as a touchscreen equivalent.
In normal mode I drag my fingers to emulate mouse movement.
In touchscreen mode, WHERE I touch my touchpad equates to a spot on the screen instead. It's a bigger touch surface than my iPhone and until there is a proximity detector (like a Bamboo pad) integrated into the touchpad, it could work like the iPad in Safari. One touch to highlight, a second tap to activate.
Why? Well if you can't imagine the benefits yourself, it would allow us to play iPad games without moving a cursor into position first. I'll let you imagine the rest.
The touchpad can already detect where your fingers are and how many you use. This would seem to be a programming effort, not a mandatory hardware change.
Feel free to push my suggestion up the line.
All I want is free access to the software when it's done.

  • Touchpad doesn't work on touchscreen laptop

    Hello everyone!
Installed Arch on my new laptop Samsung NP540U3C (Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook). It has touch screen (yep, not my preference), and there comes my first issue.
Everything went well and everything just works on command line, but... when I start any X program, X doesn't allow me to use touchpad. Touchscreen and external USB mice instead do work perfectly.
Although I like to use touchpad and external mouse, still while the touchscreen is there, I'd wish to be able to use it in addition to touchpad.
I would owe a great deal to anyone who points me to right direction!

    Hi again!
After a little bit of investigating I realized that I hadn't installed Synaptics. Sorry for my newbieness!

  • Touchpad and touchscreen not working-Satellite C55Dt-B5205

I just purchased a Satellite C55Dt-B5205 on Tuesday, ran all the updates, and everything was working fine. I upgraded to Windows 10, and now my touchpad and the left/right buttons do not work at all. The touchscreen works on everything except only intermittently on the Google Chrome browser (at least everything that I've tried). I have tried enabling the touchpad, but it says it's already enabled. So then I tried turning my computer off, unplugging everything, taking the battery out, and holding the power key for 30 seconds. That didn't work either. (It was an idea I found online.) I've also tried the F5 button, that does nothing also. The touchpad DOES work when I restart the computer, at the screen where I have to sign in to the computer, but once I sign in, it not longer works.Any help would be greatly appreciated, and just FYI, I'm not hugely computer savvy, so clear instructions would be better.

I did some research last night. On Tom's hardware forum under post "Touchpad scroll not working - Windows 10" yoko_oh_no had a similar issue with their Satellite M-50-A and solved the problem with an earlier version of Elantech touchpad drive "Elantech_Touchpad_11.8.24.6". I've downloaded (from elsewhere) and installed this driver* 11.8.24.6 and all's fine on Windows 8.1 but I don't particularly want to re-install Windows 10 on my Satellite S50D-B-100 and find I've still got a problem with a non functioning touchpad. Perhaps someone who currently has Win 10 on their Satellite with a non working touchpad could give it a go? Important: Before trying the above first of all ensure that you have an Elan touchpad - not a Synaptics touchpad.Go to Control Panel and search for device manager, click on "Mice and other pointing devices" and check that it says Elan PS/2_SMBus Port Input Device or similar. *The only Elan downloadable drivers that showed for Satellite S50-B family on Toshiba Support (Computer Support -> Download Drivers) for my 64 bit Windows 8.1 were 11.8.22.3 and 11.8.29.5

  • Touchpad does not work even after format - x220t

    Hi there,
I've had my X220 tablet for about 10 months and it has been great.  For the last month however, the touchpad and touchpoint have become flaky.  When rebooted or coming out of standby, the touchpoint/touchpad often did not work; after resetting a few times, i would work, but then stop working again when the system when into standby mode.
I thought this was a driver issue, but uninstalling and reinstalling to the newest drivers did nothing.  I have also updated/reset the BIOS.
I have more recently have not been able to get the touchpad working at all now and relying on just the touchscreen for input is very frustrating.
When Windows 8 CP came out this week, I decided to give the computer a fresh format and reinstall Windows --- maybe that would resolve the issue. No luck.  The touchpoint/touchpad did not work even in Windows 8.
I read around a bit and have tried disabling JUST the touchpad in the BIOS, and amazingly, the touchpoint will work fine when I do that.  When I disable just the touchpoint or leaving both enabled, neither the touchpad or touchpoint will work.
As far as I can tell from what I have been able to diagnose, the touchpad is damaged and is causing a conflict with the touchpoint when enabled.  I am not sure of this, but it is my belief now.
Are there solutions out there for me?  I do have 2 months left on my warranty, but I hope to keep mailing my notebook in for support as a last resort.
    thank you,
    steve

If you are ready to reinstall Windows, try this method:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/My-X220t-Clean-Install-Method/td-p/6612...
If after that your trackpoint/touchpad still don't work, I think one of them (or both) is defective.

  • Regression in 3.19-2 from 3.18-6 -- Venue 11 Pro touchscreen broken

    Hi folks,
Not sure if this is the best place to report it, but I've been using a Venue 11 Pro with the mobile keyboard attachment (adds a laptop-style hinge with a keyboard + touchpad + second battery), which works astoundingly well in Arch with Gnome 3 (multitouch works, three-finger middle click on the touchpad works, the removable battery works, seemingly everything works except detecting the front webcam rather than just the back one), but as of 3.19, the touchscreen no longer comes up under xinput list. I've gone back to 3.18-6 for now.

  • Scrolling Synaptic Touchpad Problem (Arch Wiki didn't solve it)

Good to the whole Arch's community.
First of all to appear, I am codebuster and am new in this community and in this magnificent distro that I have been charmed with for his simplicity and performance. Always I had begun for behind the topic of the configuration of Arch's installation, but consulting his magnificent tips and coming to the official information it me has been possible. I have everything working of correct form except the function of scroll of my touchpad Synaptic (function that I use always and that really I throw enough in lack). I have followed the steps indicated so much in the Wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics) as in numerous forums of linux in inet but I have not managed to make it work, for what I resort to you to seeing if someone can throw something of light.

¡¡¡¡ Thanks a lot for the info !!!
I remove all the Synaptics entries in the xorg.conf and worked fine with the /dev/input/mice option (in the Arch Wiki was # commented, the device, was /dev/psaux, and my mouse in hardinfo was recognized as PS/2 Synaptic for that I thought that it was the correct  option ).
Only one question, now I have set the scrolling mode with two fingers, ¿do you know how to activate one finger scrolling? I tried with these options in Mouse section but doesn't work for me:
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "true" # enable vertical scroll zone
Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "false" # enable horizontal scroll zone
Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "false" # vertical scroll anywhere with two fingers
Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "false" # horizontal scroll anywhere with two fingers
¡ Many, many thanks and my best regards !

  • Xorg 1.8 + touchpad

Can't get touchpad working. HAL disabled, udev started, xf86-input-synaptics/xf86-input-evdev installed.
Keyboard works fine. If I disable mouse-all, touchpad doesn't work at all.

  • [solved] Touchpad scrolling and tapping stops working after Xorg 1.9

    Hi all,
My laptop is an Acer Extensa 5630EZ and it has been running for over a year with Arch without problems. However, since the xorg 1.9 upgrade the touchpad edge scrolling just randomly stops working. Everything else continues working fine. I have searched the forums and Googled but haven't found anything that fixes it. Logging out and back into KDE gets the scrolling working again (X restart I guess). I'm pretty much stumped for ideas. Please help!
    [edit]
    - I edited the title for a more accurate description
    - I noticed that tapping also stops working
    - Note that it initially works but then randomly stops... as opposed to others' where it does not work at all.

I know about Google's Linux search but I hardly use it... I just add Linux to my search terms. Thanks for the reminder though.
My laptop is an Acer Extensa 5630EZ with an ALPS 'GlidePoint' touchpad.
Searching for problems that seem related to mine does not bring up much. Xorg 1.9 being new is probably the reason. I have gone through the updated installation guide and tried to get everything in order. Some pages recommend HAL, Xorg does not. But without HAL, I have no suspend/hibernate option in KDE and VMWare will not work. The problem appears even if I run DBus only without HAL. So I've decided to to just run HAL.
I have removed all the extra stuff I don't need at startup. Most notable is syndaemon in bashrc (totally forgot I had that). I have to wait for it to stop working since it is unpredictable. Though, I have noticed that it seems to stop working when I use keyboard shortcuts/combinations.
Here is my entire Xorg log after it stopped working:

[edit] I haven't had any problems the since I disabled all the extra stuff. I don't feel like finding the exact cause since I think it was specific to my own setup... though I suspect syndaemon. I'll go ahead and mark this as solved... again. Thanks for the help.

  • Yoga 13 touchscreen disabled after inserting SD card

My mother has a Yoga 13 computer and wanted to increase the storage space available to her without having to keep track of a collection of USB thumbdrives or the like.  Since the SD card is inserted entirely into the pre-existing form factor of the laptop, a high-capacity SD card seemed like the best option.  Shortly after getting one, a windows update occured and restarted the computer.  Since then, the touchscreen failed to respond to any touches at all.
I was able to solve the problem by removing the SD card and reinstalling the display driver using Lenovo's provided installer.  I tested the screen thoroughly and everything was functional.
I plugged the SD card back in and restarted the computer.  The touchscreen stopped working.  My mother extracted the files she'd copied onto it already, and I reinstalled the display driver again.  The touchscreen started working again.
So clearly, inserting SD card, plus rebooting the computer, equals disabled touchscreen driver.
Is this a known issue - is there a bugfix available or in the works, or some kind of workaround that I could set up for her?

    hi shannonlh,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
The touchscreen issue might be similar to this thread:
Yoga 13 - Touch-screen swipe gestures CONSISTENTLY don't work first time.
For the On Screen Keyboard or the Touchpad problem, check this thread:
    Yoga 13 TrackPad Issues
If you still get issues on the intermittent Touch screen swipe issue, you may need to send the unit for service to upgrade the firmware - see this thread.
    Best regards,

  • The touchscreen on my D7460 no longer works... it does not recognize touch anymore.

I recently moved my D7460 downstairs.  I was trying to set it up with my new router, but the touchscreen no longer senses touch.  I plugged it into my PC USB port and the printer works.  The display continues to show status.
Without be able to use the touchscreen, I can't set it up for my new router.  Any suggestions?

Hi - Not sure there is a lot you can do, unfortunately.  With that said, I'd definnitely do a reset of the printer:
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from back of the product.
Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 90 seconds.
Connect the power cord into wall outlet.
Connect the power cord to the back of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.
    Try the touchpad.
One other thing to try, disconnect if from the computer/router, power it off and see if you have the same problem.  If you're still seeing the same issue after following the steps listed above, it would likely need to be serviced if you want the touchscreen fixed.
    Hope that helps.

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 touchscreen is recognized as a mouse--how can I fix it?

I just installed Arch, and I like it a lot so far, but the touch screen on my Lenovo Yoga 2 11" is being recognized as a mouse. It can't recognize multitouch gestures (like with touchegg), and I see a pointer whenever I touch the screen. Here's what `xinput list` returns:
    > xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=13 [slave pointer (2)]

The touch screen is Atmet Atmel maXTouch Digitizer. Here's what it returns when I run `xinput list-props 10`:
    > xinput list-props 10

I should add that the touch screen works fine on Fedora and Ubuntu, but not on Arch, so it's definitely not a hardware issue.

I have a simiar device -- a Flex 2 15 -- but the solution should be similar: you need to set your touchscreen driver to absolute mode.  There is probably a synaptics or wacom config file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d.  In that file, add the following line:
    Option "Mode" "ABSOLUTE"
This is what the relevant section looks like:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "touchscreen"
    Driver "wacom"
    MatchIsTouchscreen "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event1"
    Option "Mode" "ABSOLUTE"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    Option "TapButton2" "2"
    Option "TapButton3" "3"
    Option "Evdev Wheel Emulation" "on"
    Option "Evdev Wheel Emulation Axes" "6 7 4 5"
    Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"
    Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "on"
    Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "40"
    Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinW" "8"
    Option "CoastingSpeed" "0"
    Option "VertScrollDelta" "50"
    Option "HorizScrollDelta" "50"
    Option "ZoomDistance" "100"
Naturally, you'll want to change the device path and adjust the elements to your liking.

  • Synaptics touchpad on 4540s works for one person but not another

The Synaptics touchpad on my ProBook 4540s (Win 7) works normally when I use it but when my wife tries to use it, the touchpad is unresponsive after a very slight initial cursor movement.  (Anticipating replies - Yes,  she casts a shadow, pictures of her come out normally, and she has a visible reflection in a mirror.)     The touchpad sensitivity setting is maxed on light touch and cursor speed is maxed.
She has relatively small hands, and long nails, but she had no difficulty using the touchpad on our old HP dv9910us and has no problem with an iPad touchscreen.  This week she tried the touchpad on a Sony VAIO that was so worn most of the original surface coating is gone, and had no problem moving the cursor on that machine either.   She even tried the awkward solution of using her knuckle instead of her fingertip on the HP in case her nails were getting in the way, but that didn't work either.
Not having used a 4540s before, and not having access to another one to compare, I have no way to tell whether this is a bad individual touchpad unit or a design issue.   If a design issue, what's the workaround?     For instance, is there a skin I can put on the touchpad to increase its conductivity?

A friend of mine bought a ProBook 4540s yesterday. At Microcenter we noticed that the touch pad often would stop working for her, and sometimes for me, but it usually worked for me. She bought the laptop, and we she got it home we noticed the same problem. I played with the touchpad a little and noticed this pad has a very narrow window of operation. With the 14.1" HP's like the nc6220 or nc6400, you can use one finger, two fingers, even three fingers, and the mouse responds nicely. However if too much surface area is in contact with the touchpad of the 4540s it doesn't work. Too much surface area is the pad of your finger. Because my friend has long nails, she was laying her finger pretty flat on the touch pad, and it wouldn't work. When I used the pad like this it wouldn't work for me either. Because I have short finger nails I have always used the lower end of my tip. This works pretty well with the 4540s. Pressure seems to have little affect. It is a matter of surface area, and the acceptable area has a small range!
