Touchsmart 300-1223 re-install stalls --

At the risk of providing too much info, I'll detail what I've done over the past couple of weeks and where I am...
In order to prepare the machine for use by several different users, my son wanted to delete everything. Before doing so, he created the 3 disc restore package. (This was ~6 months ago.)
> Attempted to restore using the 3 discs. Restore failed on disc 2, with error 'corrupt disc'. I tried to "re-try" this but I could not get the first disc to boot or install.
> As of a couple of weeks ago, cold start re-boot (attempting to boot to hard drive), leaves message "bootmgr" is missing.
> In the process of moving from house to house, the mouse that came with the machine was lost.
> Having attempted the below re-install without a mouse, I finally removed the USB KB and mouse 'antenna' from the bottom slot on the back of the machine. First tried to use a wireless mouse, inserting the USB 'antenna' into a regular USB port. And again attempted to re-install.
> Downloaded a re-install disc and was somehow able to do a hardware diagnostics test. Everything passed.
> Ordered re-install (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit).
> Started machine with disc 1 in. Says copying files. Runs for 10-12 hours. During this time, the 6 bar progress meter moves so slowly that it cannot be deteced that it is moving at all. Eventually a screen shows up that says Select one of the options Run a test, or re-install (caution -- will reformat) or something like that. At the bottom of that screen, are BACK, NEXT, and CANCEL with CANCEL highlighted. Usually, after this screen first appears, the buttom beside "Re-install" is highlighted. HEREIN LIES MY PROBLEM (I think): The touchscreen does nothing on touch. Even though the keyboard and the mouse are "on" (KB has a light on it and the optic mouse is illuminated on the bottom) neither the mouse or the keyboard will select anything. At varying times, for no particular reason, a mouse pointer will appear. If the option button had been highlighted, it goes to where neither button is highlighted. (I've tried punching every key combination and sequence imaginable on the KB and nothing happens.)
Oh...for what it's worth, the USB KB and mouse are HP models.
I've tried everything I know how to do. Help would be appreciated. (Thanks for taking time to read this, if you got this far.)

I read a lot of posts that suggested the power supply was the cause. It could be inadequate if it isn't the original power cord, hardware changes (like an upgraded hard drive or RAM?), other peripherals plugged in while trying to install (external hard drive? or another power-hogging device?). Do any of those scenarios apply?
The other suggestion, which I saw fewer posts on, was a setting change inside BIOS. One user enabled SATA inside the BIOS. I don't think your BIOS would have such a specific setting. It could help to know which BIOS version you have though. You can press F10 at power on to get into the BIOS. The version number will be in System Information or at the top or bottom of the BIOS screen.

  • HP Touchsmart 300 random black screen

What would cause an HP Touchsmart 300-1223 to randomly display a pure black screen, no audible beeps or other error indicators. It could be anywhere from hours of usage to ten minutes of usage for this to happen. Whenever the screen randomly goes black the keyboard and mouse "lose-power" as in when they are connected you can visibly see the light under the mouse and on the keyboard, but when the screen goes black the lights go out and everything is unresponsive. Possibly an overheating issue that could be fixed by applying new thermal paste? However, the PC doesn't seem to be overheating at all, it's actually running at  a fairly low temperature.  I don't see how it could be bad drivers or anything of that sort, as I'm running a clean fresh install of Windows 7. I've updated the bios, graphics, and touchscren drivers on the HP touchsmart 300-1223 driver page in case those were the cause and this is still happening An extemely easy way to duplicate this happening is to simply run a virtual machince (virtualbox, etc) and when trying to load the virtual machine it will cause the black screen. In case these are at all related.

    Hi Guys,
I have the solution to your problems and I will go ahead an explain it in detail so that no questions will be raised.
I have struggled to get WINDOWS 7 (32BIT) to run on the Touchsmart 300 PC now for three days (and nights) but I know how you can do it.
The problem lies within the VGA Adapter (Graphics Card) this little buddy has incompatible drivers with the inbuilt functions of the Touchsmart PC in its generic (Windows Preloaded) form. Therefore what you can do is the this.
Step 1: Insert Windows 7 (32Bit) disk and start the setup process and follow it until it hits the problem. (Millisecond of Bluescreen)
Step 2: Once the PC starts booting repeatedly press F8 (I mean it just keep on pressing that button until you can select "Safe Mode")
Step3: Once Windows Setup screen is back it will tell you an error! Which is good. INSTEAD of pressing "OK" (to restart) press SHIFT + F10 (opens the command prompt)
Step4: You should automatically be in \Windows\System32 now enter the following command: CompMgmtLauncher (This is the Device Manager).
(If the default directory is not System32 the navigate to it by entering "cd windows" and "cd system 32" (cd = change directory)
Step5: In the Device Manager (do not worry it will take some time to load) select navigate to "Display Adapters" - "ATI Radeon ..." RIGHT-CLICK on it and choose disable. (To be sure Windows will not have any other troubles you should do the same for all highlighted devices. the once with the yellow triangle)
Step6: Once this is done restart your system and let the install run into the normal mode and finish the install.
Step7: Once Windows starts for the first time. Use the provided ATI Radeon Driver from HP (NOT the original one) from the support download website to install the correct driver.
    Step8: Resart and enjoy!
Hope this helps and let me say to AMD/ATI yopu guys really suck at your one product drivers!
    Cheers and Out.

  • Touchsmart 300 - Install Windows 7 32 bit

Given I have a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32 bit DVD and the required license, how can I install Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on a Touchsmart 300 PC?
If I launch the installation booting from  the DVD I get a blue screen (BSOD), I presume for a driver issue.
I am considering using Microsoft AIK to customize the setup, but I need to know which drivers I should include and how to get them.
    Is there any information available?

  • Tuner not working on my TouchSmart 300

Situation:  Brand new TouchSmart with tuner not working out of the box.
Driver appears to be installed and working, but tuner will not pick up any channels.
Both ATSC(antenna) and NTSC(converter box used) were scanned and nothing picked up in either mode.
Both LiveTV and Media Center give same results.
HP will be picking it up to be serviced. I'm wondering if it's a Window7 Home Premium 64 bit and driver issue?
I suppose it could be a bad card.
Driver was uninstalled and reinstalled - did not work
OS was reinstalled (online chat said that reinstall fixes 5 of 10 computers with this problem)

Any ideas?  I really like the computer, I really don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping and setup again.

  • How to do a clean installation of windows 7 on hp touchsmart 300-1000

My hard drive recently crashed in my touchsmart 300. I have purchased a new one but when I insert the installation cd it shortly freezes on starting windows screen right after it installs the windows files for the first time. I have recently read threads about this and saw the safe mode option and disabling the video driver but I can not get to that screen. After I hit any key to boot from dvd i tap F8 and it starts loading windows files, then when it is done it gives me the option to run in safe mode then installs files and freezes again. Can somebody please help me!!!! I am going on over a week straight trying to fix this. Thanks

The title says Windows 7 but the description of what is used to start does not sound right.  According to this PDF for the model posted: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03472361.pdf
Go to page 56  under "Starting system recovery from user-created recovery discs
This section contains the procedure for performing a system recovery from the recovery discs you created"
If Windows 7 is installed, the F8 should get the user into Safe Mode.  Remove the Recovery DVD from the DVD drive before this action is done. What happens now?

I have a TouchSmart 300 and want to sell it and so need to restore it to factory settings and do a complete wipe of any memory of account passwords, personal data etc. The problem is I can't remember how I set up the pc originally, i.e. whether I just switched it on and it was good to go or if I had install discs and can't find any.
How would I go about achieving this so I can sell it in confidence that all my data has been wiped?

  • TouchSmart 300 - Screen BLANK - Help Please

I can do a hard re-boot and it sounds like it's working but the screen is just completely BLANK.  Nothing shows at all.  Any suggestions?

SacTownGuy, does your TouchSmart 300 have Nvidia graphics? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the same as the one in mine, but Nvidia packages a lot devices into one driver. If so, did you update the driver before the problem started?
I went to HP's support site and looked at what Nvidia drivers they had for my computer. I think the current driver they have there is the same as the one installed during the Windows update. I went ahead and downloaded the "original" driver and installed that. I also told my computer not to go to sleep to be on the safe side before I figure out what's causing the problem. I just wish I knew if it was hardware or software related. It seems like a couple people are having similar issues, but it's hard to tell if they are the same problem or not.

  • Getting a hp mce remote for touchsmart 300-1125

I want to add a remote control to my HP Touchsmart 300-1125 and am thinking to order the 5070-5600 HP remote (random link: http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-COMPAQ-5070-5600-Media-Center-Remote-Control-/330414657906#ht_805wt_911).
    I wonder about two things:
    1) The IR Receiver *is* built-in, isn't it? (Device Manager lists a functional eHome IR device)
If in doubt, where should I look for the IR receiver sensor on the case?
    2) I think the 5070-5600 remote lists as being made for the older IQ series of Touchsmarts. Will it work with the newer 300 series?
    Thanks
    Mike

All MCE remotes from the past 8 years send out the same codes. There are a few newer HP specific codes, but 95% of the buttons are exactly the same, grab a 5 year old Gateway MCE remote, it'll work just the same as a new HP one!

should i plug my hp touchsmart 300 straight in to wall outlet or into surge protector?

It will work either way. The downside of the wall outlet is that if there is a strong enough spike your electronics may be damaged. I have always used a UPS which will not only protect against surges but also will power your computer during a power failure.
It really comes down to how much risk you feel comfortable with.

Try moving the computer closer to the router or plugging in an ethernet,
also try Updating and reinstalling the network driver.
Check for viruses too, MBAM Home Page
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android

  • Hp 300-1223 window 7 want shut down with power also the screen black

all in one 300-1223 that want shut down with the power button every still run's and the scrren stay black when power up .Using window's7. Help please

It could be the power supply, shorted device of any kind attached (bad printer, flash drive, keyboard, mouse, network connection), memory problem, video card fan not spinning and the video card could have overheated, bad capacitors (rounded or leaking a brown or dark substance). The first think you should do is make sure it is not under warrantee.  If it is, contact HP.  If it isn't, remove the cover and inspect the board for bad capacitors, fans not turning, disconnect all non essential items like the hard drive, DVD, floppy if you have one, all external devices (yes the monitor) and turn on the computer. Does it appear to stay on? If yes, shut it down by holding in the power button for 5 or more seconds or flipping the power switch on the power supply or pulling the plug. Connect the monitor and then one item at a time leaving the hard drive with your important data as the last item. If it didn't stay on. Try to use only one piece of memory and try each memory slot, try the next piece etc. If that doesn't work, the best guess is the power supply (if you have an ohm meter - test the power supply first).  You can run a anti-virus/adware/spyware check by removing the drive and attaching it as a 2nd drive on another machine.  You could also run a check disk while it is there.  I like to download the hard drive manufacturer's disk certification test iso image and make a bootable cd.  Boot off the cd and test your drive.  It can fix bad sectors and some minor drive problems.
