Touchsmart 310-1020 screen flicker

My computer screen is flickering. I can see whats on it and everything works but it just looks like a strobe light is on my screen. I've tried updating/reinstalling drivers. Also the only option for refresh rate is 60 htz, so I can't change it. Any help would be great.

IwannaPunchMyPC,
With that being said it is a hardware issue, especially if it’s flickering on the setup screen. It could possibly be the screen or perhaps the inverter.
Do you know if you still covered under warranty? If you are not sure have a look at this link to confirm.

• TouchSmart 310 1020 touchscreen issues

My TouchSmart 310 1020 has touchscreen issues. Only part of the screen will work, the rest of the screen doesn't recognize touch commands. Specifically, the only part of the screen that will work for touch is the bottom left quarter, the rest of the screen doesn't work. I tried to clean it, I also ran the calibration utility to no avail. With the calibration utility, when the target would move out of the useable area I was unable to touch the targets. I also reset the calibration settings to no avail.
Do touchscreens partially stop working? Should I replace the screen or is there a simpler solition?

I have an HP TouchSmart 320-1030 that I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I have had similar issues at various times.
1. Believe it or not, some of the calibration issues I experienced in the past were actually caused by Microsoft's calibration tool! Undoing the calibration helped. To do that:
Move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner of the screen, right-click, and select Control Panel from the menu.
Click Hardware and Sound.
Click Tablet PC Settings.
On the Display tab of Tablet PC Settings, click Reset (if the Reset button is grayed-out, that means there is no data to undo.)
When prompted, click Yes to allow Microsoft's Digitizer Calibration Tool to make changes to your computer.
2. To get my touch screen to work after upgrading to Windows 8, I had to disable my graphics card.
You will find the instructions on how to do that in this HP support document (the fourth set of instructions under Touch screen doesn't work after upgrading to Windows 8):

• Use laptop as second monitor for hp touchsmart 310-1020

Product name: HP TouchSmart 310-1020 PC.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Can I use my laptop as a second monitor for my HP? It doesn't have an hdmi port, so is there any software or converters someone suggests?

Sorry to say, but it won't be possible - any video ports on your notebook will be output only.
Actually that's not what the OP asked, and it's incorrect since you're not answering the question he asked. There are software packages out there that will let the OP do what they want between multiple PCs. Multiplicity by Stardock is a quick example http://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/ and it's only $30

• Mystery port or thing on back of Touchsmart 310-1020?

Okay, this is probably a dumb question, but what is the port or thing on the back of my Touchsmart 310-1020, located just above the Ethernet port? It is not shown in any of the documentation. It looks like a black plastic screw, but it has a logo next to it with a couple of arrows and what appear to be three discs (like CDs). Is this a port or just an access screw?

Sounds like it might be the screw that lets you access the hard-drive that's inside the computer. As far as I've seen on various electronic equipment, screws that have arrows pointing to them usually indicate that by loosening those screws, you can get access to user-serviceable parts inside the enclosure.
This manual describes how to get to the hard drive: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02525253.pdf and it includes pictures of a screw located above the ethernet port.

• Touchsmart 520 1020 screen is blank

Screen went blank while in sleep mode. Followed directions to try to reset bios, no luck. Computer is almost 2 months old. Help

Hello VWhite:
Well aren't you lucky because your computer is covered by one year old HP standard computer warranty . So you have two options one is take it back to where you bought it at and just exchange it for another new one and let the store deal with it. Second is contact HP direct support and have them fix it. Me I would just let the store deal with it.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/contacthp?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=4007138&sw_lang= Support link. Phone # is 866-408-5408 for Touchsmart computer support. Good Luck.
You shouldn't had to do anything in bios screen. When you set up your computer you probably turned on automatically update. This most likely is causing your issue. Next computer change your updater settings to down load updates and let me choose witch ones to install. Only install a few at a time. Two many at time causes blackscreen or blue screen of death.
See if you can start up your computer and press F-8 key to get your computer in safemode use arrow keys select safe mode with networking. In program search box type in recovery manger and select microsoft recovery and do a back restore. This will delete the corrupted start up files. When your computer is back to normal settings change your update settings. If F-8 key fails then call HP Direct Support they will set you up with a work order. Good luck. Delt with this same issue already. Using HP Touchsmart 600-1050 since I changed how I receive updates problem has not occurred.

• Don't know power on password for hp touchsmart 520-1020 windows 7 64 bit

My touchsmart 520-1020 was powered off and when it came back on it was asking for a power on password. Can anyone help me with this? Please? when i enter a random password three times it doesn't give me a code. it shows a key each time i press enter after entering a password and after the third time it has an asterik. and then no more options. the date is shown at the bottom right hand corner.

Hello cmeryers76:
Your password should be the same one you use to log into windows. Why you are seeing a date is be yound me. This seems more like a bad virus or malware. If your sign in password still fails. Unplug the computer while this screen is still being displayed. This is what we call fource restart. Ounce the computer is completely off plug it back in and turn on your computer you should start up in safe mode screen option use arrow keys select safe mode with net working. Close out help and support window. Locate the the recovery manger and Click yes in prompt window if displays then select Microsoft System Restore in next two screens click on next You well eventually end up with dates listed choose a date before this event occurred then click next follow all command promts. Ounce recovery point has been completed run your antivirus software. Then do a PC Tune Up. Go to your control pannel and open up Performance Information and Tools select Adjust power settings on the right hand side. Then select Choose when to off the display. Next window switch all boxes to never. You will never have to worry about this ever again. On top of that the issues you face trying to wake up the computer from sleep mode.
If the same screen displays on start up by a chance then unplug the computer hold down power button for five secounds then plug it back in turn on computer tap f-8 key follow above recovery steps. If this fails to open in safe mode. Then full recovery is only option requires recover discs. Power off the computer turn it on and tap f-10 key and insert disc one of recovery disc follow all command prompts. Ouce fullrecover is completed follow the above dirrections for the display settings above switch all thee settings to never. frrw

• Can i add a second moniter to hp touchsmart 310

Just need to know if I can add a second monitor to my hp touchsmart 310 pc

I use a USB display adapter to provide a choice of two extra monitors for my Touchsmart 300. I run a 17" monitor on a VGA cable from the USB display adapter and when I want to watch movies I change to an HDMI cable connected to my 42" Plasma and run that as a second display in the loungeroom. With the HP wireless remote, I can control the video and with the wireless mouse and keyboard I can surf the net on the BIG SCREEN! Cool!

• Touchsmart 310 keeps closing if I don't move mouse continually.

I have a touchsmart 310 and every time I am online or paying my bills I have to keep continually moving my mouse or the screen will go to the screen saver and it is supposed to wait 20 min. per my setting. This makes it impossible to pay bills because the bill company thinks I am idle and then they close out too!!! I have tried multiple times to re-set the screen saver, give it more minutes, no screen saver versus using one, and still the outcome is the same. What do I do?? I saw some one else had this problem too but the answer that was given does not work believe me I have tried doing everything at least three times or more and it still closes out and asks for password. Help me please.

• Temporary Solution for screen flicker r9 280x

After performing various tests I've fixed the screen flickering on my msi r9 280x, I hope this can be useful for all here with the same problem and with different patterns of R9 family, that I have running on my pc and I have not had even the slightest flicker playing youtube videos where the problem became acute.
1 open the task manager and end the process Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring program and also the Catalyst Control Center: Host Application.
2 Go to C: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ ATI \ ACE right click on the Profiles file, in the end the general menu select Read only, accept.
3 Again right click and select edit, and file searches within these lines
<Feature name="CoreVoltageTarget_PCI_VEN_1002&DEV_6798&SUBSYS_27751462&REV_00_4&320ACFF0&0&0010A">
<Property name = "Want_0" value = "850" /> CHANGE THIS VALUE OF 850 FOR 900 only
<Property name = "Want_1" value = "1200" />
This value changes the low voltage in 2d (resting) 0.85va 0.90v
4 then go to the File menu, select Save As, in writing profiles.xml nombe save.
5 Again right click on the profiles file saved on the desktop and select read-only
6 Go back to Go to C: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ ATI \ ACE and remove the profiles file.
7 copy or cut and paste into C profiles saved file to your desktop: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ ATI \ ACE.
8 Finally go to task manager and then click on file to run new task, we write MOM.exe there and ready, restart the pc for security.
to ensure that its voltage is at 0.90v use GPUZ and check the end of the sensors tab.
note that if we use the application msi afterburner not enable Unofficial Overclocking mode option because in themselves to have it on and change the clocks video card testing restores the voltage 0.85V.
when I play some games I use msi afterburner like msi Gaming app since I have experienced that without the Gaming app clocks fall then at 300mhz after making this process voltage, I recommend you use to see, as an example in msi afterburner I apply the core clocks of vga 1100 and Gaming active app one of the two profiles, the Gaming mode or the mode Oc down and watches only parameters selecionados 1020 mhz or 1050 mhz vga respectively when accelerating up to 1100 mhz selected msi afterburner.
I hope this is useful that I share as many as we can not believe that to date no actions are taken to this problem taking into account the value of the video card. Maybe this and many what they knew, but there will be many who do not and those like me tried in many ways to carry it out and not succeeded because that's how I achieved step by step and fully functional, sorry if some way I can not explain to clearly as I do not speak English and I'm using a translator, and hopefully serve them again, I just do it to help them all and hopefully once and for all of the annoying screen flicker go ...

• Touchsmart 310-1110uk - BSoD caused by ntoskrnl.exe

I have had seemingly random Blue Screens of Death when shutting down on my HP Touchsmart 310-1110uk over the last few months. Sometimes when shutting down, the "Shutting down..." message is displayed for a long time and then the BSoD appears. This only happens occasionally and most of the time it shuts down fine. The blue screen only ever appears when shutting down.
It seemed to happen when Connectify was running but after looking into Connectify BSoD problems it seems that this bug was fixed after version 3, and I am running 3.3.0.23104 Pro. Therefore I don't think Connectify is the problem.
I have uploaded the a .zip of the dump files from "C:\Windows\Minidumps" to Dropbox here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9154836/Minidump.zip
I have also downloaded BlueScreenView to try and analyse the error logs. Most of the crashes seem to be the same with the following:
Bug Check String: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
Bug Check Code: 0x0000009f
Caused By Driver: ntoskrnl.exe
Caused By Address: [mostly "ntoskrnl.exe+7cd40" or "ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40"]
I have uploaded the full HTML BlueScreenView report here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9154836/report.html
I haven't installed many programs which might have caused the problem. This has been happening since November 2011 and the only thing I installed around then was Connectify.
From what I can tell it seems to be a driver issue, but because this only happens occasionally (at seemingly random times when shutting down) it's almost impossible to troubleshoot by disabling individual drivers (i.e. trial and error).
I would appreciate some help on this, if you could provide some guidance on fixing this or ask for more specific information.

• Touchsmart 520-1020

I had an earlier version of a Touchsmart desktop that allowed me to highlight and then drag down on the screen. I made the settings on the old Touchsmart and the Touchsmart 520-1020 match, but I still cannot seem to get that setting to work. Does anyone know how to get this option to work as I use it constantly.

I understand that you are having issues selecting mutiple items using the touch feature on your HP Touchsmart 520-1020 All-In-One Desktop PC. The ability to select by dragging down on the screen should be simply a matter of literally dragging down on the screen. If this is not working I would recommend you ensure that you have ALL the Windows Updates installed as well as ALL the HP Updates on your computer. You may also wish to ensure that you have the proper graphics drivers installed. You can do this by selecting your operating system from the drop-down box on the HP TouchSmart 520-1020 Desktop PC Drivers page and clicking NEXT. You can then scroll down to your drivers and ensure that the proper and most up to date drivers are installed.
If you do this and you are still not able to select by dragging down. Try holding down CTRL on your keyboard or click on the virtual keyboard in the bottom right and then dragging down to select multiple items.
