Touchsmart 520 1070uk PCIe SSD??

Hi guys,
my Pc is requiring a new hard drive as the current one is on its way out quick question..
Any idea if a PCIe SSD will work with my machine.. or a MSATA
failing that i may have to go with a 2.5 SSD to SATA
If you could spread some light that would be great!
Thanks in Advance
Craig

Hello @ceejay20,
I understand that you are inquiring as to whether or not your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop PC will support aPCIe SSD. To be honest I think you are the first person I have had that has asked this and to be totally honest it will depend on a few things. First, you have three available expansion slots on this computer two PCI Express mini card sockets (Generation 2 speed) and one PCI Express MXM slot that supports a PCI Express x16 graphics card (Generation 2 speed). I recommend that you get a card that is compatible with Generation 2 speeds as you will just be wasting your money on one that works with Generation 3 as it is downward compatible and will only run at Geration 2 speeds anyways. Next will be power requirements. Your computer only comes with an external 180w power supply so just becareful about how many internal and USB devices you install in your computer as they will all require power. Lastly, the BIOS may be an issue, I have not had the luxury of actually testing what you are trying to do and although I see nothing that should prevent it I also do not see anything that will allow it either.
I know the last bit is a safe answer, but it is all I have to go on to assist you with this. I would appreciate if you do purchase the card and install it that you come back and post as to the results so I can either assist you further or get a definitive answer one way or another.
I really appreciate the opportunity to assist you with this and look forward to your response. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

    Hi,
The specifications for the HP Touchsmart 520-1049 indicate that a 35 watt MXM video card can be used.
HP Partsurfer doesn't show a  MMX card as a spare but if you call them they might have something listed under another Touchsmart.

  • Hard Drive for Touchsmart 520-1050

    Hello,
I am currently looking to replace the internal hard drive in my touchsmart 520-1050. However, I am having trouble with locating the size this computer needs. Meaning the physical (in inches) size. If anyone has any idea, I'd appreciate your input.
    Thanks

    SKD1983, welcome to the forum.
Here is a guide that will help you access the hard drive.  Read it carefully and watch the video before buying the hard drive.  You can measure the drive once you get to it.  It will be either 2.5" or 3.5".  I could not find the exact size anywhere, but measuring is the safest way to make the determination.  You should buy one that is at least 1 TB to be able to use the System Recovery media.

My touchsmart 520-1020 was powered off and when it came back on it was asking for a power on password. Can anyone help me with this? Please? when i enter a random password three times it doesn't give me a code. it shows a key each time i press enter after entering a password and after the third time it has an asterik. and then no more options. the date is shown at the bottom right hand corner.

    Hello cmeryers76:
Your password should be the same one you use to log into windows.  Why you are seeing a date is be yound me. This seems more like a bad virus or malware. If your sign in password still fails. Unplug the computer while this screen is still being displayed. This is what we call fource restart. Ounce the computer is completely off plug it back in and turn on your computer you should start up in safe mode screen option use arrow keys select safe mode with net working. Close out help and support window. Locate the the recovery manger and  Click yes in prompt window if displays then select Microsoft System Restore in next two screens click on next You well eventually end up with dates listed choose a date before this event occurred then click next follow all command promts.  Ounce recovery point has been completed run your antivirus software. Then do a PC Tune Up.  Go to your control pannel and open up Performance Information and Tools  select Adjust power settings on the right hand side. Then select Choose when to off the display. Next window switch all boxes to never. You will never have to worry about this ever again.  On top of that the issues you face trying to wake up the computer from sleep mode.
If the same screen displays on start up by a chance then unplug the computer hold down power button for five secounds then plug it back in turn on computer tap f-8 key follow above recovery  steps. If this fails to open in safe mode. Then full recovery is only option  requires recover discs.  Power off the computer turn it on and tap f-10 key and insert disc one of recovery disc follow all command prompts. Ouce fullrecover is completed follow the above dirrections for the display settings above switch all thee settings to never. frrw

  • TouchSmart 520 Windows 7 Home premium Problems after critical updates

After my TouchSmart 520 auto ran critical updates on 13 Feb 2013,I cannot connect to Internet at all.It was still able to connect to my home wireless network.
I did a systerm recovery, to restore up to just before the critical updates on 13 Feb, then it's able to connect to internet. After that, it auto ran critical updates 2 times, and the same problem started.I have done the system recovery again and  now turn off the downloading and installation of critical updates completely, but this should not be long term solution.
Has anyone encounter same problem or is able to help me on this? What else do I need to do?
    Appreicate any help.TIA!

    Hello sgcosimo,
You’re not able to connect to the internet after updates have run. I’ve had that happen before and usually Microsoft will send out an update that fixes the problem a few days later.
You can try to run the updates again to see if you still get the error.
If you’re still not able to get online, go into device manger and uninstall the Wi-Fi adapter and restart the computer.
Here is a link to uninstall the adapter.
Let me know if this helps.

Can I add a second monitor to a TouchSmart 520-1070?  Can it be done through a USB port with a USB to DVI converter?

To connect your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 desktop computer to a second monitor or a TV, you will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter. I recommend the eVGA UV Plus+ 19 USB-to-Video Adapter, however many of these other USB-to-video adapters should also work.
FYI... with a touch screen, you can only "clone" the desktop... trying to "extend" the desktop may cause problems using the computer.

  • PCIe SSD - compatibility?

I'm trying to figure out if any of the PCIe SSD's currently available are compatible with a first gen Mac Pro 1,1
Say just for example, PCIe SSD Mini Cards which are supposed to be for netbooks, and are much more affordable option than larger PCIe SSDs, if somewhat low in storage size. Now there may be other pitfalls with these SSD mini cards in particular (mlc versus slc ssd's) but that's why I'm posting my stupid question!
Just trying to think out of the SATAII connection 'box' for SSD AND do it more affordably...
    Thanks for constructive replies!

    Hi justmetoo,
I know that you said that you are "trying to think out of the SATAII connection 'box' for SSD", but why?
If you are thinking of installing only one or two SSDs, then this link includes instructions for the installation of 2.5" SSDs in older Mac Pros (2006-2008), using SATA cables:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Mac-InstallingSSD.html
The read and write times of Mini PCI-Express SSDs (PATA or SATA) are pathetic compared to those of 2.5" SATA SSDs, particularly the latest generations of the latter, and the price difference is not that great when you compare them for the same capacity in each.
If you are not that concerned about read and write speeds, then the price differential is even less if you compare them to "value" ranges of 2.5" SATA II SSDs, such as the recently released OCZ Onyx range, which still outperforms Mini PCI-E SSDs.
I am sorry, but I cannot follow your logic. The reason most Mac Pro users upgrade to SSDs is to improve, or even to obtain maximum increase in, performance, and this is extremely noticeable when a fast 2.5" SATA II SSD is used as a system boot drive.
If this drive had been available when I upgraded last December, I would not have hesitated in buying one, albeit that I would have had to import it, because OWC do not have any distributors or resellers in the UK:

Upgrade was uneventful.. went very smoothly.
Problem is now I cannot play any videos in the new Metro Mode (I tried using various apps... Video, youtube player, etc).. not even youtube videos.
However, when I select Desktop mode.. everything still works fine.
Any idea what is wrong ?

    Hello WongKO:
Welcome to HP's forum. I do not know much about Windows 8. Reading this fact sheet it says that you need to purchase the media software and upgrade to Windows 8 pro. This fact sheet should guide you. http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-US/Home/Faq? Windows 8 system requirements section. Will DVD playback work after upgrading to Windows 8? This one is in general section. Will installation media be available for purchase? Back to Windows 8 requirements. Is Windows Media Center included in the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro? Least you are able to watch videos in other mode until you figure out what is best. Good luck frrw. Ounce you have figured out the software purchases you should post it to help others out. My computer is to old for upgrade. No drivers were made for it.

  • HP TouchSmart 520-1047c Webcam Issue

My webcam has gone MIA. My Chrome Hangouts tries to launch and place a video call and reports it could not access my video camera.
The Camera HP High Definition 1 MP shows in the imaging devices of my Device Manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device there it is using the latest Microsoft USB Camera video drivers.
I went to the Touch Smart Webcam application and launched it from there and particle reported several missing files that it uses for special effects. That didn't stop the camera from coming up and working OK.
I then went to the HP website and followed their webcam troubleshooting guide. It reccomends that you  reinstall the webcam software using the Recovery Manager. So I deleted the existing Touchsmart Webcam software package from the Programs and Features Contro panel app launched Recovery Manager and Selecte HP Webcam software to be reinstalled. The install seemed to fo well no errors were reported. My problem is I now can't find the TouchSmart Webcam softare application to launch the webcam. Recovery Manger thinks it is installed as it asks be to uninstall it if I try amd reinstall it.
How do I find where the PC installed the software. Ir is not in Program Files(x86)/Hewlett-Pacard/Touchsmart where all the other TouchSmart aps are located.
Any ideas where I can find this or force the recovery manager to install it again?
    Thanks in advance...

I have read your post on how there are flashing bars intermittently appearing on the edges of Touchsmart 520, and I would be happy to assist you in this endeavor!
Since the lines on the screen are likely to have been produced by the graphics card overheating, I recommned following this document on Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating. This should help clean out any excessive dust, allowing the fan to cool the desktop effectively.
