TouchSmart Icons

I'm quite disappointed with the lack of support documentation/guidance that comes with an HP computer these days.
I have just starting using an HP TouchSmart 310 - 1260 UK Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and am trying to get to grips with adding an icon of my own to the icons that can be added to the TouchSmart carousel. The very brief, and not very informative, guidance states that I should "Add your own icons to the HP TouchSmart Icons Folder in Public Pictures". I looked but there was not such a folder in Public Picture so I created a new folder titled HP TouchSmart Icons and copied the icon (png format) I want to use into the folder. However, my icon has not appeared amongst the icons that can be used/added to the carousel.
I spoke briefly with HP Support, not particularly helpful, who stated something like" if you copy icons from the web then they may not work due to copyright issues". Consequently, I have created my own icons but still cannot get TouchSmart to recognise their existence.
I shall be grateful for any advice/guidance (NOT TOO TECHNICAL PLEASE) on what I am doing wrong and how to resolve this issue.

Problem now solved

  • HELP! My touchsmart (IQ826t) won't load SmartCenter/HP TouchSmart

I just got my second TouchSmart, returned my first one (something was wrong with it / blue death).  Anyhow I just got the new one to run and I tried to click on Hp touchsmart icon or the Smart Center that plays all your videos and pictures and etc.. and it keeps saying "HP touchsmart requires windows Aero. Please close HP touchsmart and enable windows Aero in the window color and appearance area of control panel - Personalization".
So by default it's on Windows vista Appearance Setting, and I selet Windows Aero, apply and clicked OK.  Then Tried to open HP TouchSmart/Smart Center again..and it still says that... AND AGAIN I opened apperance setting it went back to Window Vista Basic!!!! WHAT the heck????  I restarted my computer, check for lastest updates.. and still..  I guess I can live without HP TouchSmart/Smart Center.. But still I want that feature program!!!
Can anyone help me or having the same problem?  HELP.  It just won't let me pick windows Aero color Scheme, every other scheme works fine!!!

I'm not sure if you already tried this or not. Open Control Panel (in classic view) > System > Click on Advance System Setting (top left) > Setting (performace) and select "Adjust for best appearance" > Click OK and OK again. Hopefully this will solve your issue.

  • Can icons be moved manually (rather than connected to the grid) on the Magic Canvas / TouchSmart?

Can icons be moved manually (rather than connected to the grid) on the Magic Canvas / TouchSmart?

I want to be able to arrange the icons myself on the MC.
Unfortunately, I don't think this is possible. These are the only settings available for the Magic Canvas related to desktop icons:
Strangely enough, none of my desktop icons show up when this is enabled though

  • Touchsmart "House" icon is gone, where can I download it?

I have an HP Touchsmart all in one IQ526 model desktop. I recently had it upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, but the house icon has disappeared, and is nowhere on the computer. This icon allowed for me to access my built in webcam, among other things, and take snapshots, use avatars, and apply other features with my webcam. I bought the computer SOLELY for these features! I have tried everything, and am at a loss, Can anyone please offer some helpful advice. I will run you through what I have already tried and am hopeful that no one will give me advice that I have already tried. I AM WILLING to purchase this software if I need to, but cannot seem to find anyplace that sells it.
    1. I first tried to recover it, but there is no recovery point on my computer from the time prior to my upgrade.
    2. I tried a factory restore, but the computer does not recognize me pressing the F11 at start up.
                A. I accessed recovery manager under the start menu and there is no image I can use to restore the computer to when I had Vista.
                B. I called HP and they DO NOT sell the recovery disk for this model anymore.
    3. I have searched through the drivers on the HP website and can't seem to find any of them that mention the house icon specifically.
                A. I used the search for updates feature, but the website keeps saying it cannot verify I have the product, even though I DID USE the "find my product" button and the website recognizes that I have it.
                B. I tried to install every driver, but many of them do not install, and I have no idea why.

    Hi slburgess86,
I saw your issue and I will be happy to help. Do you recall what the name of the software was? When you mentioned you installed the drivers did you install them from this page?

The above link does have a link for the Webcam but it is an update not the actually software. It is located under Software – Solutions.
I have included a link below to you document talking about the TouchSmart Webcam. It shows how to use the Webcam and includes a number of screen shots. Let me know if they look similar to the software you were using previously.

  • How to move Icons to system Tray on my TouchSmart 610-1130y

I would like  to be able to move Icons to my system tray.

Click on Control Panel and then click Notification Area Icons.  It will give you the list of available programs and behaviors to configure.  If the program that you wish to be displayed is not displayed you can check the settings of that program to see if the option is available.  If it is not you can drag any file or program to the taskbar and it will create the shortcut there for easy access.

  • Touchsmart 610 - Google Chrome not Showing tools icon- Cannot Update Google

Google Chrome screen as displayed on TS610 is not showing the wrench for updates and settings. Can this be corrected ??

    Hi hiral2cool,
That is very strange. I think this has to do with the ico file being enabled or disabled in about:config ? Try to disable javascript and restart the browser. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.
    '''about:config'''
    # In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
    # Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
    # In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
    # Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.
To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.
    '''Add-ons'''
You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/noscript/ No-Script] (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava/ QuickJava] (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
*[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/settingsanity/ SettingSanity] (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar)
Thank you and I hope this helps!

  • HP ENVY TouchSmart Ultrabook. I accidentally deleted my audio.

    Product/Model: HP ENVY TouchSmart 4-1115dx
    3rd generation Intel Core i5-3317U
I was cleaning up my laptop by uninstalling things from the control panel, and I accidentally uninstalled my audio drivers and everything that has to do with audio. I tried to exit out, knowing that I pressed the wrong thing to uninstall, but it wouldn’t let me exit or press cancel. So now in the bottom right side on the desktop layout on the audio icon it says: No Audio Output Device is installed. It also has an X circled in red that appears on the icon. In addition when I go to the HP Utility Center, my Beats Audio icon doesn’t appear. When I go to the troubleshooting report for playing audio it states:
     Check audio device
Issue not present There might be a problem with your audio device.
One or more audio service isn't running
Issue not present Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. Atleast one of these services isn't running.
I would very much appreciate it if I could somehow re-install my audio back! It’s essential.
    Thank you.

    Jman,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
You are not the first one to become a bit overly enthusiastic about Housekeeping chores.  Smiling.
First, try using your Recovery Manager to reinstall your original Audio Driver.
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)
Restart the computer after the driver loads.
You may have to complete / check the settings, see the Guide at the bottom.
You can also get your Driver from your computer's support webpage:
HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx Drivers
Look in Category Driver - Audio
Select the most recent driver revision
    Download and Install the driver
Restart / Reboot the computer and log in

  • Brightness not working on HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j178ca

    Hi,
Brightness was working fine on my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j178ca with Windows 8.1 64 bits (F2 key, F3 key and Windows brightness slider).  NVIDIA GeForce Experience showed there was an update available.  After doing the update I have lost all brightness control.  Tried reverting to old drivers, tried hp latest drivers and even tried Intel and NVIDIA latest drivers without any success.  Here's the details :
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 10.18.10.3304 (from hp sp63553 package)
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 10.18.10.3304 (from hp sp65232 package)
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 10.18.10.3907 (from Intel)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 9.18.13.3233 (from HP sp65231 package)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 9.18.13.4411 (from NVIDIA)
I have always uninstalled drivers before reinstalling new ones and my BIOS is up to date...  Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • Touchsmart 600-1120 successfully upgraded to Windows 8 Pro

I just wanted to report my Touchsmart 600-1120 (BK139AA) was successfully upgraded from Win7 64 bit to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, and I haven't run into any issues.   Here are the steps I went though.
    1. Made disk image backup using Win7 Backup and Restore.
    2. Ran the Windows 8 advisor tool to have a record the computer passes minimum requirements and I had a list of what apps will no longer work. I did go ahead and removed all of them. I never did use those apps much anyways.
    3. Ordered Windows 8 Pro upgrade DVD from Amazon.  I potentially had multiple computers to upgrade, and wanted the DVD.  Requested the free product key to unlock the Media Center add-on pack and received it in two days via email.
    4. Made another disk image backup using Win7 Backup and Restore in the event a Win7 restore is needed.
    5. Ready to upgrade.  Inserted the 64 bit DVD, nothing happened.  Manually launched Startup.exe on the DVD.
    6. Selected option to upgrade Win7, keeping all docs and preferences and let it go.  Took an hour or so, I didn't keep track.  Rebooted a couple of times and responded to any prompts for info.  When I received the logon screen for the first time, I ejected the upgrade DVD.
    7. When I logged in for the first time, I had no issues with the touch driver.  The touch was very reponsive.  Played around for a while exploring a bit.  It's actually lots of fun.  I've never been exposed to an ipad or tablet, so this was the first time I've experienced a "tabletized" interface for lack of a better term.
    8. Followed the instructions in the email to install and unlock the Media Center pack.  It took a while to add the software.  My only concern was if the AVerMedia TV card (A327) would work.  After the install there was the normal Media Center icon shown on the app tiles.  Launched it and had go through the process of setting up the TV tuner.  Once it found the tuner card (yea!) I told it to use the existing preferences for channels and such and it worked like it did in Win7.
Launched Windows Update and it found a few things to update.  I played around for a couple of hours to get familiar with the new interface, and how to display the old Win 7 desktop.  It took me a while to figure out how to make an image backup.  I had another computer handy with internet access and it was quicker to google to find answers to my questions.  One of which is the option to use the familiar Win 7 backup and restore, so I made a new disk image with the new OS and stored it away.
I have this computer on the kitchen counter and use it mainly for TV watching while cooking and occasional recipe lookups.  In the Windows store, there are some free recipe apps, like allrecipes.com.  I installed a bunch of the free recipe and news apps.  I don't know if I'd use the touch screen on a regular basis, although it is nice to have, it leaves lots of fingerprints, particuarily in a kitchen environment.
I'm very relieved I didn't run into hoops I had to jump thorough considering reading about Win8 upgrade issues others have experienced.

Hello, I was also able to go to Windows 8Pro, but have been unsuccessful trying to go to 8.1 or to 10, great PC feel I will need to restore it back to Windows 7. Have you been able to at least get it up to Windows 8.1? Thanks

  • HP ENVY TouchSmart & HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-one-Printer

My HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-one-Printer has been installed & uninstalled twice.  It is presently uninstalled.  When you first install & print test is prints from my HP ENVY TouchSmart w/Windows 8.1.  After the initial installation is tells me its offline.  I have this same printer installed on an older laptop running Windows 7 & it prints perfectly every time.  I run a test result paper on my printer and it tells me there are NO PROBLEMS found.  So, it has to be my laptop.
I have looked at every help page I can and have tried everything it says will fix it included the HP Doctor and nothing works.
I ask our tech guy at work and he is also puzzled.  I am no where near a tech so I would really appreciate your assistance.
    Thank You!

    Hi NittanyLions1,
I would like to help you with this conundrum. From your description, it sounds like the software is installing properly but tells you the printer is offline. This sounds to me like a communication issue. You mentioned that you have another Envy 4500 and it works fine with an older laptop running Windows 7. What operating system is on the computer you are trying to use this printer with, and are both of these printers on the same network or is the other one with the Windows 7 in a different location?
While I wait to hear back from you, please complete the solutions offered in the following document; 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to view broadcast tv on Touchsmart with internal tuner

I would like to watch digital over-the-air tv on my Touchsmart420 using the built-in ATSC tuner.
I have connected a tv antenna to the computer.
In Media Center I get a message saying that no tv signal is detected.
Do I need a special kind of tv antenna?
Should the antenna be connected to the port that has an icon looking like a tv with rabbit ears on top (rectangle with v on top and arrow pointing in)?
The computer is HP Touchsmart 420, product # QB908AV#ABA
    Windows 7
The installed tv tuner is AVerMedia H323 MiniCard Hybrid ATSC
I have updated the driver (appears to be same as I already had)
I have tried 2 different tv antennae, both receive digital signals when attached to television set.
    Thanks for help!

In case anyone else is having difficulty with over-the-air tv:
I tried several different antennae and found that an amplified "rabbit ears" model worked best. I don't need an amplified antenna to get signal on a television in the same room, so perhaps the computer tuner is not as strong.

  • Adobe Reader 9.3.2 takes over icons

I am attemping to install Adobe Reader 9.3.2 on a new HP TouchSmart, running Windows 7, 64 bit.  Have downloaded and installed the file four times.  Each time that it installs it changes all of the icons on the desktop, task bar, and Start Menu to the Adobe icon.
When I click any of the Icons I get the message "Adobe Reader cannot read this file."    I uninstall Adobe Reader and restart the computer and all icons are restored as they were originally.  Right now I don't have any Adobe Reader.   I have been downloading directly from adobe.com.
Another household member has the same computer with Adobe Reader 9.3.2 which was installed on 4-20-2010.  That computer doesn't have any problem with Adobe Reader.  Does anyone have a clue as to why the problem is occurring?

I have seen the same problem in this forum a couple of times (on Windows Vista and 7 only), but I have never seen a solution for it.
Can you try if Adobe Reader 8.2 does the same?  Download it from here http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.2/enu/AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi
If the same happens with Reader 8.2, then I have no other suggestion than to try an alternate PDF viewer.

  • Keyboard/Mouse battery icon????

My TouchSmart 600-1055 uses HP's wireless keyboard and mouse.  The computer runs Windows7.  There is no mouse or keyboard icon in the system tray, so there is no way to see the state of the battery charge on the mouse or keyboard.  Windows7 is supposed to be able to monitor the battery charge of wireless keyboards and mice.  I checked to see if an icon is available using the "customize" option for the system tray.  There is no option listed.
Is this something unique to TouchSmart computers running under Windows7?  Is there a fix for this issue?  I'd sure like to know when my mouse or keyboard are about to run out of juice!   Seems to me that this is an essential piece of information for a computer than runs with battery operated wireless keyboard and mouse!!
Is there an HP or Microsoft fix available???

2- the second is, the side volume buttons are doing nothing, I was wondering how to fix it
The posted files for Win7 upgraded IQ5xx and IQ8xx machines in regards to the OSD/ACPI/Buttons don't work, this has been a problem since they were released.  Some folks get better results by going back and installing the Vista drivers for the OSD/ACPI/Buttons. (this is for IQ5xx and IQ8xx upgraded machines NOT the 300/600 series that ship with Win7 from the factory)
