Touchsmart IQ504 - does not power up AT ALL

Hello there,
The company I work for has multiple Touchsmart computers we use. One of them is not powering on for whatever reason. I've swapped out the power board with another known working one. It still doesn't power. I'm talking the board itself, no lights, no fans, nothing comes on. I've tried multiple power supplies and still cannot get it to boot up. Unfortunately, the computer is out-of-warranty (of course, lol).
I was simply wondering if anyone else had any suggestions to try, or ever had a similar problem. The only other thing I could think of would be using a multimeter to see if there's any electricity flowing over the MB, which would indicate right away if it was a cable issue or something else.
Thanks in advance!

Hello J-Sing.  I understand you're having some trouble getting a Touchsmart to boot.
You've replaced the power board and tried multiple power supplies.  Those would be the first two things I checked.  The fact that nothing happens (no fans or lights at all) indicates to me it is an overall power issue.  If you are comfortable with a multimeter I recommend using that to find out if the motherboard is even getting power.  Another possibility is the RAM isn't seated properly but that normally causes the computer to shut off randomly rather than not power at all.
Let me know the result; I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  I hope you have a great day.

  • N97 does not power on at all - only blue light sho...

    Hi all,
purchased a used N97 the other day, which according to the seller had sustained a virus when opening an email. He told me it wouldn't power on, I was hoping it could be solved with hard reset and took the plunge, but unfortunately no luck.
    Symptoms:
    * When the charger is connected, the blue light on the upper right corner of the phone lights up
    * When I push the power on button, the blue light on the upper right corner of the phone lights up
    * When I try to hard reset..... take a wild guess.... aye, the blue light on the upper right corner of the phone lights up
Now I'm not sure whether the guy spoke the truth about the virus, he might as well have been attempting to flash the firmware or whatsoever. My question is if anybody recognises the phenomenon, and if there's a cure or possible suggestion of how to problem solve this error?
    Cheers
    //Joris

You're probably right that it's a fake - had a closer look last night and saw that for one the LCD isn't the size it's supposed to be either:
Measured diagonally the screen is 2.95", not 3.5". It's apparently a clone, although I haven't managed to find anything resembling it on eBay or google - the known clones only have 2Gb, this one does have 32Gb according to lettering on the mechanism under the front lid when it slides open. Might add that it feels sturdy and all, so it's at least a half-decent clone (albeit broken )
Trying to get my money back but seller insists it's original. Luckily I didn't pay a lot for it and it seems I can at least use the battery in my current E90. Let's hope that's a good quality fake battery at least
Thanks for the reply and feedback!

  • Hi All, my macBook does not power on at all.  How can I rectify this problem? Many thanks.

    Hello,
Can anyone please assist me with this problem?
    Forever grateful

    Dorothyfromok,
Yes.  Make a Genius Bar appointment.
In the mean time try two things:
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds.  Then try powering it up normally.
    Try an SMC reset.

If Apple says your logic board is stone dead then extract the hard disk from it before giving it a burial.  Place the hard disk in an external USB enclosure.  You can recover you data from it that way.

  • Ipad3 does not power on

My iPAD 3 was working yesterday.  I set it down, picked it up later and the screen was completely blank so I left it on the charger overnight.  No charge picture showed on the screen and the next morning after being on the charger all night it does not power on at all.
    Any suggestions or ideas?

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets it to power up ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

What model iPad do you have? If it's an iPad 1, the battery may have expired and needs replacement.

  • T61p 14.1" Does not power up

My 14.1" T61p Type: 8891-CTO laptop does not power up.
After my last successful use, it was sitting idle for 2-3 days with battery & AC adapter connected. When I turned it on nothing came up, no battery charging light or display. I do not have mini/advanced dock.
So far I've tried the followings:
1.) Removed Battery & switched on with AC adapter (with & without circuit breaker)
2.) Removed AC adapter & switched on with Battery
3.) Removed HDD, RAM, DVD Drive one at a time & again used step 1 & 2 with no luck.
I bought it new in Dec'07 & still under warranty. I have never used Lenovo support before but from what I've read, their on-phone support sucks.
a.) Have you faced similar problem or know the solution?
b.) Does Lenovo have any local repair center in NJ or NC where I can physically carry the machine & get it fixed?
c.) What will be the fastest/sure-shot way of getting it fixed?
    Thank you!
    Warm regards,

Ok! It's fixed! I disconnected AC, removed the battery. Then, I took out / reinserted the MEMORY CARDS. As soon as I plugged in the AC, VIOLA!  Indicator lights were on.  I replaced the battery. I powered up the pc -- battery showed only 2% juice.  Moral of the story:  if you leave the pc in hibernate (prolly sleep mode too) for an extended period without plugging in, the battery will lose juice and the pc memory will remain in the previous mode, unable to register when AC is available.  Not ideal, but what I think that's what it is.  OR - someone else suggested that the PC needed a longer time to recharge after wasting all the battery juice -- and that I should've been more patient. But, the PC had been on the AC for 2 hours and no indicator lights were on, which made seemed to indicate that the PC was unable to register that it was attached to the AC power.  I needed to get some work done, so I was ready to try anything. When in doubt, take the mem cards out. And reset them.

  • My Audigy 2 NX does not power on anymo

Does anyone know if there is a repair manual or schematic diagram of the SB0300 Audigy 2 NX sound blaster available to consumers? If the schematic diagram published anywhere?

I have a similar problem. Anyone got suggestions? Anyone know how to take this thing apart? If it's just a transistor or something blown, I'd wanna replace it myself.
    ====
The unit has been working nicely for two yearswith the same computer. Yesterday (back in march '06), withoutchanges to computer hardware/software, suddenlythe Audigy 2 NX doesn't power up anymore. There wasno power distruption, and the adaptor itself ispowered through a Belkin SurgeMaster. Idisconnected all cables and reconnected themagain, but the unit does not power on. Also, Inoticed when I plug in the power adaptor, theunit itself (not the speakers) emits a veryfaint, high frequency noise.
-The power adaptor gets warm after a while.-I've looked into both optical in and out and there is no visible lightfrom those ports. In fact, the adaptor itself emits some highfrequency audible noise if and only if both sides (to wall and todevice) are connected. I have tested the output of the power adaptor with an oscilloscope. Itsoutput is average 5V but have a ringing from about 4-6V. I used anotherDCsupply to power the unit at 5V, and the unit fails to turn on. I'vealsonoticed that the current was 350mA even when the unit is off, so perhapssomething is short circuited inside.=========

  • Imac g4 does not power on -- power supply or pmu?

Alas, my (formerly) trusty imac does not power up anymore. Lost of information about the computer and the problem follow, but the ultimate question is:
should i try replacing the power supply or the logic board? which is more likely to be the culprit?
And before anyone mentions it, yes i want to try and repair this one. It is still much cheaper than buying a new a mac mini, since i don't have a monitor for said new mini.
    anyway...
The computer: iMac G4 flat panel 800MHz, working fine from purchase in January 2001 (right after they came out) until August 2006
The situation: I moved, to Japan (military move). Upon unpacking the imac, it would not power on -- no screen, no bong, no sleep light, no fan noise, nada.
    What I have tried:
    -- taking it to the apple store (they quoted a $500-$800 repair -- ouch!);
-- opening it up and looking for lose wires, burned out power supply components, etc.: nothing found
    -- reset PMU: no change
-- test battery: checks out, 3.58v; returned battery to imac, reset PMU: no change to computer (i.e. still no power)
for those of you counting, that was 2 resets of the PMU, one before i removed and reinserted the battery, and one after. Both PMU resets were done by pressing the button once and holding for about 1 second.
So, now I am at the point of replacing either the power supply and/or the logic board. And which should I try first?
Question #2: Is there any difference between power supplies for the various imac G4 versions? i.e. if i find a power supply for an iMac G4 1GHz, can I use it in my 800MHz model?
    thanks any and all!

  • L655 has solid white power LED and soid orange battery LED and will not power on at all.

L655 has solid white power LED and soid orange battery LED and will not power on at all.  I tried a second power adaper.  Any other suggestions?  It does not even try to power on.  No fan or any other noises.

if it is not powering up on battery or AC, then there is either something wrong on the motherboard keeping it from powering up, or a bad power switch.  I personally have not encountered a bad power switch on any of my Toshibas, so I would suspect something with the motherboard.  It is strange that it does indicate that your plugged in and charging.  If you leave the power adapter plugged in, does the battery status eventually go white?

  • Imac g4 does not power on, but everything checks out???

Alas, my (formerly) trusty imac does not power up anymore. I've tried every step in the service manual up to the point of replacing hardware, and so far no luck. Details of the machine, the problem, and what I've done follow.
The short story is that I'm faced with replacing the power supply and/or the logic board after both passed the diagnostic tests recommended in the service manual. Since they both passed the tests, my hopes for success are not high, but at the same time, replacement costs for the two (if I wind up replacing both) run about the same as a replacement machine on ebay! On top of that, I suspect the diagnostic tests available do not test one power supply output -- so maybe it's bad but I just can't tell.
I would appreciate any advice on the situation. Also, does anyone know if the power supply for the 1st gen machines (800MHz, 15") is supposed to have both 12V and 5V outputs? Thanks a bunch!
The computer: iMac G4 flat panel 800MHz, working fine from purchase in January 2002 (right after they came out) until August 2006
The situation: I moved to Japan. Upon unpacking the imac, it would not power on -- no screen, no bong, no sleep light, no fan noise, nada.
    What I have tried:
    -- taking it to the apple store (they quoted a $500-$800 repair -- ouch!);
-- opening it up and looking for lose wires, burned out power supply components, etc.: nothing found
--try new power cable; test line filter: everything okay
    -- reset PMU: no change
-- test battery: checks out, 3.58v; returned battery to imac, reset PMU: no change to computer (i.e. still no power)
--test power supply and logic board points as per service manual instructions; 12 V registered at all points. tests passed. But I wonder: I have read the the PS for some imacs are supposed to have a 5V output too, but there is no test for that output on this model. I wonder if there is a 5V output on this model, and if there is a way to test for it?
for those of you counting, that was 2 resets of the PMU, one before i removed and reinserted the battery, and one after. Both PMU resets were done by pressing the button once and holding for about 1 second.
    thanks any and all!
