I understand that your keyboard is typing the wrong characters and you have replaced the batteries. I would be happy to assist you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Hi all!I have the above named Toshiba laptop with keyboard problems. When typing, the keyboard will instead type another different character. Example, When I press "C", the computer will type "cd" and also brings up that menu for choosing second screen (PC screen only, duplicate........)When I press "escape", the computer will truly "escape" but will also type "q"When I press "d", again, "cd" is typed.When I press the space bar, space will be applied together with [Caps lock will type QqQqQq as much as I continue pressing it.J will type in "mj"M will also type "mj"S will type "xs" and also apply the Fn key for decreasing screen brightness (F2)V will type "v4"X will do same as 'S' above.Num 4 (top row) will type "v4" as in 'V' above.What I have tried,Connected an external keyboard - It worked fine.Booted with a linux live CD- typing problem is still there also.Please can someone let me know how I can solve this and what might have caused it? This appears to be a very common fault with the Satellite Laptops. My C55-A5249 is just over a year old and has had excellent care then all of the sudden the keyboard stops functioning. Of coarse it didn't happen until after the warranty was up. But I called Tech support anyway. They walk me through some issues that they could not resolve and sent me on to Another repair department (Closed on weekends). This left me time to play arround. I was actually able to attach a wireless keyboard to the laptop and it worked just great. I am currently in the process of "Refreshing" (hold down the ShiftKey and click on Restart from the power options button) the laptop back to defaults by hold down the ShiftKey and click on Restart from the power options button. This is a gigantic pain by the time you restore everything. Did I mention: "I HATE WINDOWS 8. Anyway.. I'll let you know what happens next.

Keyboard types two characters at once

When I try to type in a password for a printer the keyboard types two characters at once. i.e. 11 when I typed 1. This only happens when I'm typing the printer password. Why is this happening and how do I make it stop?

So that's got to be a software incompatibility issue. Can you use another computer and eliminate the password or is this part of a shared workgroup of something like that?
Otherwise it would help to know which computer, size, year and OS you're running.

Keyboard printing wrong characters

My keyboard on my Macbook recently started typing strange characters, speciƒically ƒ,o which sometimes comes out with a slash thru it, the u is sometimes just a apostrophe, and the capitol ƒ is some other kind oƒ strange character Ï. Neither the Alt, Control, or Commant keys are stuck. The special characters is set to Roman, ƒont is Apple casual. This happens in all soƒtware programs. What is wrong????? It's driving me crazy. Google won't recognize any word I type which shows up with one oƒ these characters in it.

For those characters, your keyboard is typing as if the alt/option key was depressed, or the alt/option + shift keys. It sounds like a hardware problem to me.

T500 Keyboard types garbage characters

I've seen this problem occasionally both on Vista and now on Windows 7 (64-bit) - now and then when I type on the keyboard I get garbage characters on the screen. The characters seem to appear in ASCII-code order, for example if I type 'http' I might see '1234' or some other 4-character sequence, in order. This has happened in Thunderbird, and goes away after a while. It isn't specific to Thunderbird, if I'm in the 'garbage character' mode and open a Notepad window, for example, it will also display incorrect characters. After closing a few things and re-opening, it eventually clears up (I'm not sure about the exact sequence that corrects it).
I've searched this forum and other places but not seen any references to a similar problem. Any ideas would be welcome!

This problem is still happening, occasionally and randomly. For example, just before typing this post (which is working normally, it seems), I was using another app and had the problem. I opened Notepad, and typed "jjjjjjjjj", repeatedly, and this is what appeared on the screen:
qwertyuiop[]asdfghjkl;'`\zxcvbnm,./-+\1234567890-=
and would repeat if I continued to type any letters at all (didn't matter if it was "j" or any other letter, the same sequence appeared). Then, I switched to the Spanish keyboard, and tried the same thing and saw:
qwertyuiop´+asdfghjklñ{|}zxcvbnm,.--+<1234567890'¿
Again, it would repeat endlessly as long as I kept typing something.
The shift key would produce the corresponding capital or shifted characters (i.e. "%" instead of "5").
It clears up spontaneously, but is rather annoying when it happens.
It is not caps-lock or num-lock related, nor apparently multiple-language-keyboard related.
Any clues???

I recently cleaned my wireless apple keyboard and now am having trouble with it responding, typing wrong charactures and broadcasting un issued commands.

Laptop keyboard giving wrong characters

Hi there,
I am having HP pavillion DV 2760 en since early 2008 and facing these days a very unique problem.
when I press ASDFJKL:" and ENTER keys they print another charater of lower string by pressing of single key.
like charters prints this way
A = ZA
s = xs
d = cd
: = /; etc
I have gone through many forums and have checked there is no NUMLOCK issue at all and some of the peoples suggested cleanining and some replacing the keyboard. Can you please guide me how this problem can be solved?
My Left Arrow key also went insane it works upside down. Is it a virus or is it something hardwre issue. yeah there's nothing spilled over any sort of liquid on my keyboard.
I am using VISTA home edition 32bit and yeah I had changed recently DSL router and after that this problem became very prominent but I remember keyboard used to malfunction earlier as well like printing " instead of @ and vice versa. I hope this much details would be enough and waiting for your your feedback as its making me mad while working..

I will check this way also. But it seems to be solved for now but not for arrow keys actually. I was told to shut dowm system and take out battery for some time. And turning it on my keys were back in normal except arrow keys...
I tried to clean my keyboard and there I saw some dust and hair actually stuck inside I have cleaned them to maximum possible but now the issue is there's a plastic covering back on the alluminium or mettalic lower part of the keyboard. it is transparent and looks glued. If i rip off this sheet to clean the dust and particles stuck between that sheet and metal part then my question is what kind of glue to be used to put it back. You can see at step3 and step 4 here.

ICal invite field types wrong characters

After upgrading from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.8-1.1 I can no longer invite people to events in iCal, when I start typing an email address within the invitee field the character I am typing changes to a different character. This is the only field that I have experienced this behavior in. I have upgraded other users within our organization from Leopard to Snow Leopard without any issue, so the trouble appears to be based on something specific to the users account, because the results are inconsistent. I have not created a test user account, nor have I tried booting this computer in safe mode. But will try when I have access to this computer and then update this post. Has anyone else experienced this?

Okay, so after spending several hours with Apple tech support I was able to resolve my problem, hope this helps. The user had manually synced their Address Book contacts with their iPhone and a Google contacts list. Both of these syncs as well as manually adding new contacts into the Address Book on their iMac caused the Address Book to get completely scrambled. The user had cards with no title, but as many as five (unrelated) email addresses assigned to the card. This same Address Book contained multiple address cards like this, yet each one was slightly different. The user also had cards with titles containing special characters (&;?-_/ etc.), the quick answer for me was, the user had o go through their Address Book on their iPhone and their iMac and completely descramble the bad data. Then before a fresh sync they had to turnoff sync with Google contacts within iTunes. Once the bad data was removed the invitee field with iCal immediately started to perform as expected without fail. What a relief to have this issue resolved.

Sounds like wrong Keyboard selected! Go System Preferences, Keyboard, Input Sources button then click your Keyboard.

Recharging is a good thing to try. They do start to act odd when the battery gets low. Beyond that, just like Tom says, contact Zagg. I have one of their keyboards and the company has wonderful customer service.

That mapping is determined by the settings of your computer. Go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and make sure that only US is present on the list (or whatever language you normally use).

LXDE: wrong keyboard layout or keyboard type?

Hi all!
I'm running Arch on LXDE, and having a keyboard issue
I set the keyboard layout during the Arch install (a french keyboard), and on LXDE (editing /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart)
SO, I got the right azerty layout, but there's some keys I don't have access to.
Mainly the "alt" ones:
ie, I can press the "_" key, and acess "8" with shift, but can't acess the "anti-slash" with right alt
nor the "at" character with alt+0
I guess it's probably more of a keyboard "type" than a keyboard "layout" issue, but I can't find any info on the wiki?

Looking for "Change Keyboard Type"-Button

Hi. After installing Snow Leopard my Keyboard (from Cherry) works a bit wrong (some keys have wrong characters). I think there is something wrong with identification of the keyboard and wand to change it's type. "Help" (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8962.html) says:
1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Keyboard.
2. Click Change Keyboard Type.
The problem is, that there is no such Button "Change Keyboard Type" in Keyboard Prefs!
So where can I change the type?

I'm using two layouts - one is German and one is Russian-PC (Russian layouts are a little different for PCs and Macs). I don't know if it matters, but the system is running in English.
I still believe, that the problem is in keyboard configuration. As I was installing 10.6, system asked me to "Press a button next to the left Shift" to identify, which type of keyboard I use. I didn't understand what the system wants from me and pressed a wrong key (I believe, I tried to press "Escape" but instead pressed the "^" key).
Exactly the same thing happend to me a couple of times as I was installing 10.5.x - this message for Keyboard config is some kind of, I dunno, magic for me (or some poor interface design) - I always miss the point, and I've always pressed the wrong key. But in 10.5. there was a possibility to run keyboard identification once again from "Keyboard" menu (and so says "Help", too). But there is no more this button and I don't know if there were any other way to run identification again. (I've tried to plug-out and plug-in again, but it didn't help).

Random wrong characters appear when typing in Firefox--why?

While typing in Firefox, random wrong characters appear (e.g. I type "i" and "n" appears). If I go back and retype it, the same wrong character may appear two or three times, then the correct character appears. This happens while using gmail, but also, for example, when entering search terms into Yahoo. It does not happen while using other browsers such as Chrome, and it does not happen using other applications.

This would indicate you have activated the feature which turns the right side of the keyboard into a numerical keypad. It might be Fn-F6 that controls this -- sorry I don't have a notebook and am not sure exactly how this works.
