Touchsmart series and lack of hdmi in/out

I signed up to this forum after searching around for info on hdmi in/out.
I have not purchased an HP in about 5 years, I saw a touchsmart at costco and thought very nice.
HOWEVER, as I google around there seems to be a general lack of HDMI support : most models appear to have no HDMI at all and the ones that do have HDMI only has either  in OR out.
Why would HP miss such a basic feature?
My XBOX/HDTV/2ndMonitor and whatever else comes out needs HDMI both ways.
Smarten up!

Never heard of that brand. Looked up the model and didn't see anything about HDCP, you may want to refer to the manual and manufacturer. You've likely already checked but best to ensure  that the cables are secure. Also if you're able to check on another tv or take it in to Apple to check, just to rule out if its the tv or if it's the device.

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.

    Which TV do you have.
You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

  • HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 2951

    Hello,
I want to connect HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 295\but i cant tell which of the pins on the Audio Card is the Spdif.

CRe: Mic not working (PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series)? Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
The headset is connected via the 3.5mm jacks in the card.
I believe I have it working now. I ended up having to unstall the drivers and software, reboot, install drivers and software and then mess with the settings. The only issues that I am having now is that I hear a a really high sort of feedback/hiss tone from the headphones now. To correct this I have to turn the input for the microphone down really low within the Windows 7 controls for the microphone and turn it up with Ventrilo to get the mic to work and remove the feedback/hiss.
I believe that the issue stems from the flexjack setting. The whole flexjack thing really seems to mess with the microphone settings. I believe I choose line-in instead of microphone.
Once I get home tonight from work, I will hopefully post the exact settings I came up with to get the mic to work.

I have the same blueparrott headset headset with the directions. Actually reading them just fixed my iphone pairing issue.
Here they are in case u still need them along with what I needed to do to get mine to work with iphone 4
    Pair Headset with Phone
    Turn off headset off
Hold down headset's MFB (large top button) until red & blue lights flash and you hear 2 rising tones, followed by 4 more tones. Must wait for all before you release the MFB button!! (I had my hubby hold the MFB while I waited for the tones since both come from the headset
Release the MFB and follow your phone's instructions to place it in 'bluetooth' discoverable mode.  With the iphone4, go to "General" and then "Bluetooth" and turn indicator to "ON".
This is where my issue occurred as the phone could not find the bluetooth, although it worked with my LG phone.  So after trying it several times thinking I was nuts and that the issue was with the iphone, I looked further in the blueparrot's directions and found this step that fixed the issue.
    Reset Paired Devices List
On the bluetooth, press and hold down both the volume up & volume down buttons for 5-6 seconds.  A double beep will be heard and the list will be reset.  Pairing info for devices previously paired will be lost.
The bluetooth directions provide this as step 4 but that did not work for my phone (see below)
    4. Once the phone discovers the headset, select "pair" and enter "0000" code and that when pairing is complete the blue light on the headset will stop flashing and phone will prompt you to 'connect'.
This is what I had to do after resetting the device list on my bluetooth
    4. My iphone instanting discovered the headset and displayed it under 'Devices" but showed a message that it was 'not connected'.  Once I selected the device on the iphone by pressing on it then it changed to "connected".
Even when I turn the bluetooth on and off the device remains on the list and alll I do is select it to connect and disconnect after I turn on my blueparrott bluetooth
    I hope this helps others!

  • Hp tx2500 complaint and lack of help.

After 5 years my fully functioning hp tx2500 dies on me the other day, randomly and out of the blue. After a very short search I come to find out the reason it died was not my fault, rather hp used a faulty part, the Nvidia chip set, that seemed to rather oftenly over heat and fry the motherboard on a lot of models and always after the warrenty expired. So I searched for a recall notice only not to find one, the company is aware that this happens but has done nothing about it. This damage can not be repaired only replaced, which is rather expensive and back when I bought this the laptop was about nine hundered dollars. As a student and one with many difficulties and hard ships in his life at the moment a broken lap top really sets me back, especially since I can not afford a new one, and then I find out that it broke due to the manufacorers neglect I got mad and decided to call hp directly and be on record. First I called tech support and the woman on that line was helpful and gave me the right number to dial. I dialed that number, the woman on this line really annoyed me she asked me questions and when she asked if tech support was able to help me with my problem I attempted to explain the problem multiple times and this woman interupted me each time saying that I am not answering her yes or no question, so just to please her I said no and she said she can not help me and I should talk to them and immedialy transfered me back to tech support in a very rude manner. So, here I am back at tech support where I just want to talk to a manager or anyone who does not have to follow a conversation flow chart. This person let me get to a certain point and then I asked to speak to a manager, they asked what was wrong and I told them about this very common problem in the same way I explained it here and the person sounded rude and stated that it is a 5 year computer with obsolete parts and if there is no recall then the company claims no liability on it and I can not connect you to a manager, which to me is not a reason as a consumer I should be allowed to talk to a manager regardless of how old my parts are. I also signed a petition with five thousand other upset customers about this issue and I am posting here to get visibility and I am hoping a manager or a helpful person sees this and gets in contact with me. To summarize this up, hp used a faulty part, they refuse to recall it, there call center is rude and unhelpful when your issue is not text book, I am upset and most likely never buying hp again unless they find a resonbile way to resolve my problem, and lastly this will be posted on other sites for more visibility and if it comes to it a public warning against buying hp products in the future.

We are not HP Tech Support just a bunch of fellow end users trying to help. I have been around here a lot of years and actually was here when this issue first developed back in about 2007. Yes, there was an issue with nVidia video chips on many models including some of the tx series. Only the tx1000 series and the Pavilion dvx0xx series was included in the nVidia class action. The tx2xxx series and the Pavilion dvx5xx series were never included, although anecdotally those models also have a significant failure rate for what is likely to be the same reason. Also, HP never had an "enhanced warranty" program for the tx2xx series.
The fact that the computer lasted 5 years is some evidence that it was not defectively designed or manufactured, frankly. You are also incorrect that the computer cannot be fixed. If you are handy, you can remove the motherboard and ship it to one of several excellent shops that do a fine job of fixing the nVidia chips. Do not take it to some local jackleg who will blow it with a heatgun. It might work for a while, but not long.
You can go off on a social media tirade but frankly that ground had been plowed already and has not borne much fruit because HP and nVidia have satisfied all their legal obligations. Or, you can take a realistic look at your options. When you are ready to do so, we can help you find the right repair shop at the best price possible.

  • Aaargh! 3000 N200 crippled/dumbed-down BIOS options and lack of VESA modes

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo 3000 N200. The actual hardware is okay for the price (cheapest computer with Penryn CPU and 1680x1050 screen), but the BIOS settings are another matter...
The biggest issue is that Lenovo has disabled the CPU PAE/NX feature in the BIOS and there is no way to enable it. (This has been covered in another thread.) Anyone buying an N200 would have good cause to return it for a refund, since nowhere is it mentioned that this CPU feature is disabled. Luckily 64-bit support is still there, otherwise I'd definitely return mine.
That's not the only problem though. The available settings/options in the BIOS are extremely inadequate. I looked at the v3.03 BIOS update file using a BIOS editor program, and text for all the missing options is in the BIOS image -- these features already exist but Lenovo decided to disable them. Is there any chance Lenovo can enable the missing options in a future BIOS update?
Here are the main annoyances for me:
There should be an option to change the graphics scaling in the BIOS. Non-widescreen modes like 640x400, 640x480 and 800x600 are stretched horizontally to fill the whole screen. I would prefer them to be stretched but keep the original aspect ratio. Once Windows or Linux has booted, you can tell the graphics driver to do that, but that's no help if you're booting to DOS or e.g. a Linux boot CD or Windows installation CD.
There are not enough VESA graphics modes. My N200 with nVidia GeForce Go 7300 graphics has a 1680x1050-pixel screen, but the highest VESA resolution is 1400x1050 (modes 0x347 and 0x348), which always appears stretched. Other nVidia cards seem to use modes 0x368 and 0x369 for 1680x1050.
And here is a run-down of other options which should be user-settable but aren't:
The internal hard disk is always bootable, there's no way to set the BIOS not to boot from it. (You can set its priority lower than the DVD drive, but if there's no bootable disc in there it will always boot from the hard disk.)
The execute disable bit is always disabled, with no way to enable it.
No option to disable the 2nd core of the CPU. (Useful for testing software.)
No option to disable Intel Virtualization Technology. (Useful for testing software.)
No option to enable dynamic CPU frequency mode. (This would be useful in DOS; currently the fan spins all the time there.)
There's an interesting Linux-related option which is not selectable: 'Select IF a Video Repost is to be performed during resume from S3'. Options are 'Disabled: Never', 'perform a Video Repost upon resume from S3', 'Only perform a Video Repost IF the OS is Linux', 'Enabled:  Always perform a Video Repost upon resume from S3'.
No option to choose whether there is an alarm when the battery is low.
No option to select the TV video standard (NTSC/PAL/SECAM).
No option to disable the trackpad.
No option to set the keyboard auto-repeat delay and rate.
No option to disable other hardware like the DVD drive, Ethernet card, WiFi, Bluetooth, or HD audio.
All in all, the disabled no-execute bit and video mode issues with the BIOS have kind of soured my experience with this machine. I wish Lenovo would re-enable the missing features in a BIOS update... sigh.

    Roderic wrote:
Respect and appreciation for highlighting the lack of BIOS features; I have been spending a long time trying to get S Video to work with my PAL tv. Only now found that the black and white result is due to unmodifiable NTSC settings in the BIOS, and now you tell me they cant be changed.
So aye, another hat in the ring for Bios Update Please.
Hmm so was it advertised in the UK as having TV out - if so and it cannot deliver it because it is NTSC only then this is not fit for purpose and you could get money back.
I'm also disappointed in the lack of advanced power management like toshiba have (dim screen and slow down CPU as battery runs down) and lack of dvd acoustic silencer.
And thanks for posting this - saves me the trouble of buying a cable to plug into the tv-out port if it ain't gonna work!

  • Mac Mini Audio Intermittent over HDMI, Cuts out with Assertion in kernel.log

Hello. I've been having trouble with a mac mini (Mid 2011) that I bought on Thursday. It's running OSX 10.7. The Mac Mini is the $599 unit.
I've got it hooked up to my Sony BRAVIA HDTV (also this year's model) via HDMI, with audio configured to be delivered via HDMI to the TV alongside video. Initially the audio will play through my TV, but after an hour or two of watching something, it will cut out, and there will be no more sound coming out of the TV from the mac. Ultimately, the only way I can fix it is to reboot the Mac Mini. I've also observed that at about the same time sound cuts out, the following error message appears in kernel.log:
Aug 12 19:21:40 joshs-Mac-mini kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDAWidget at line 3957 goto handler
    Aug 12 19:22:10 --- last message repeated 5 times
As far as I know, assertions failures usually mean software problems (bugs). I suspect I may be encountering a kernel-level bug in Lion, as this error message is showing in kernel.log.
The following is a list of diagnostic steps I've taken:
    - I've double-checked the sound output device in preferences. It didn't spontaneously change from SONY TV (HDMI) after sound cut out.
    - I've tried changing output to the internal speakers. It plays sound from the mac mini (as expected). When I change it back to HDMI, still no sound from the TV.
    - I've tried turning off and back on the tv. No effect.
    - I've tried unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable. No effect.
    - I've tried replacing the HDMI cable with two other alternates. No effect.
    - I've tried other HDMI inputs for my TV with HDMI attached. No effect.
    - Note: I've got a ps3 and xbox360 on the TV that has successfully used the HDMI inputs and cables tested on. They've never had this type of problem, so I don't think there's a problem with the TV.
    - I've tried rebooting the mac and resetting the "PRAM" (Command-Option-P-R before the grey screen on bootup). Sound still cuts out after a while.
    - All updates are applied.
Does anybody else have any ideas about what I could try to fix this? This problem is pretty much a deal breaker, as rebooting the mac mini mid-movie kind of destroys the movie-watching experience.
    Thanks

I'd just like to jump in on this thread to report exactly the same problem.
2011 Mac Mini (the 2.5GHz i5 model) running Lion, Sony Bravia TV, HDMI sounds cuts out after a while with the console error "Aug 15 18:30:25 Mini kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDAWidget at line 3957 goto handler".
Interestingly, after the error occurs, I can still get 5.1 sound through Plex, but not through Quicktime. 2.0 sound and system sounds all fail until I reboot the system.
Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer not to have to return the Mini.
    Thanks.

  • Audio and DVI to HDMI on my G5?

I have my G5 dual 1.8 GHz wired to my Vizio 32" HDTV as the primary display with a DVI to HDMI adapter and then an HDMI cable going to my TV. I get good 720p video out of it with the original Radeon 9600 graphics card but of course no sound as DVI doesn't transmit audio. Does anyone know of any good adapters would take the existing DVI and digital audio out and convert that to a single HDMI????
Something just like this except instead of a mini DisplayPort, DVI.

    Hi-
    Something like this, perhaps?

  • K1 - HDMI video out issue

    Hello,
    First post to this forum.
I bought my K1 end of November.  I purchased two micro-HDMI cables, and not seeing video out.  Briefly saw the picture on screen once or twice, but nothing consistent.  Have plugged my K1 into 4 or 5 different HDMI-enabled monitors/TVs, no luck.  The cable doesn't seem to sit very securely in the hdmi port.  These are definitely micro HDMI cables I purchased from two different sources (not mini-HDMI).  They may only have been HDMI 1.3 version cables, but I think they should have worked.
Sent my K1 in for Lenovo service and came back this week. Everything with HDMI checked out according to Lenovo support.  I actually just ordered two more "high speed" 3 ft cables from monoprice hoping this solves the issue (version 1.4).  I should have the two new cables next week
Has anyone else had issues with HDMI video out?  I would like to know from others if the HDMI worked well for them.  Don't know what to expect.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My Micro HDMI to HDMI cable works fine with my K1.  I have to watch that my micro HDMI plug is fully into the K1's socket, because my case sometimes is too close to the socket and the plug touches my case preventing the plug to fit all the way into the socket and making connection.  Like the case.   It's a MoKo from Amazon.com for $20.

  • Need assistance with AMD drivers (HDMI Audio Out)

    Short version:
I have an older AMD graphics card that won't work right with the open source drivers. The proprietary driver would potentially fix my problems, but it is incompatible with my current system.
    Long version:
I've got this lovely old AMD Graphics card, which happens to be a Radeon HD 4250 card, and despite all of the help articles in the wiki, as well as the AMD Bar & Grill thread, I still can't get the darn thing to work properly. As of right now, I'm currently using the open-source xf86-video-ati driver. While it's a nice driver that performs well for day-to-day things, I can't seem to get the more nitpicky things working properly. One such thing, is HDMI Audio support.
Now don't go and bite my head off just yet: yes, I did read the help articles for that problem as well. I must have tried every possible fix in them, and then some. Video-out through HDMI works, at least. It's only when I try to force the audio (by adding radeon.audio=1 to GRUB) when my TV tells me it can't recognize the signal. Through all of this extensive trial-and-error, I've basically concluded that I have no other choice but to use the proprietary fglrx driver from AMD. Yay.
Sure, sounds easy enough, right? Not really...
Since my card is a bit older than the others, my only option is to use the 12.6 legacy version of the driver, which only supports Xorg version 1.12 and lower, as well as version 3.4 or lower of the Linux kernel. As most of us know, with Arch Linux being the bleeding-edge distro as it is, I currently run Xorg version 1.14 with Linux kernel 3.8. I've searched around for a possible way to downgrade both of these to the appropriate versions, but I've gotten more or less the same answer: downgrading is more trouble than it's worth.
SO.... that brings me to this:
I think I need to completely reinstall Arch Linux from the ground-up, once more. This time, however, I think I need to somehow tell it to install with older versions of both Xorg and the Linux kernel. This way, fglrx has no reason to be incompatible with my system, and I can finally quit fighting this problem and go on with my life. I'm not quite sure how to go about doing this (or if it's possible, for that matter), but that's why I'm here, and I'm definitely willing to try it in order to get this solved once and for all.
Of course, this is just my theory of how to fix this, but if anyone thinks they can help me get the open source drivers to behave properly, please, be my guest.
Either way, any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    P.S.
I wasn't sure what terminal outputs anyone may have needed for this, so if someone needs to see a particular output from the terminal, just ask.

Lone_Wolf wrote:Which HDMI versions do card, tv and hdmi cable provide/support ?
I'm not quite sure what HDMI version the TV has. It's a Magnavox 32ME402V 32" HDTV, if it's relevant. Same goes for the laptop. It's a Pavilion dv6-3025dx laptop, but I have no ide what version of HDMI it's currently running. I'd suspect both of them are running something along the lines of 1.3 or 1.4, but I don't know. The cable is, well, a cable. I know it's a Sony brand cable, and the box advertised it for the PS3, though the box doesn't specify an HDMI version either.

No, it's not muted. When I check the HDMI device, it's set to 00 and I have no option of changing it. It's just stuck to that.

Yeah, I've tried that. It doesn't play out to the TV, but if I set the device to my laptop speakers, the sound test works (unsurprisingly).

Hi again, when you clicked on Mountain Lion and Lion in the App Store you are telling the laptop to reinstall them both.
You may have allowed simutanious downloads checked at the bottom of the window, I don't know, but I expect Mountain Lion is downloading, so Lion is waiting for it to finish, so if you have Mountain Lion installed cancel both download's.
    Cancell both downloads anyway.
Go to the apple logo , top left, click on it, then click on about this mac, a window will open telling you what's installed,  Mountain Lion is OX 10 version 10.8.2 click on more info, to find out more, Lion will be OX10 version 10.7.4.
