Touchup Reading Order Window Disappears

I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional version 8.1.2 and Windows XP. I want to use the TouchUp Reading Order tool to exclude a portion of the page from what is considered readable text after adding tags from the Accessibility menu(specifically, there are line numbers down the left side that I do not want to be part of the text). I've done this without trouble in the past, but I'm not sure if I've done it since I was upgraded to version 8.
When I select the "TouchUp Reading Order" menu, the box with Text and Table and other such buttons pops up as usual. Then I hit clear reading order so I can start fresh. Next I draw an outline of the text I want to be readable. Normally I would next hit the Text button. But as soon as I draw the rectangle, the TouchUp Reading Order box disappears. If I try to open it up again, it appears for the briefest moment, then disappears again. If I select the Hand icon, the highlighting of the text I selected disappears, but if I try to open the TouchUp Reading Order again, now the box will appear and stay put, my highlighting reappears, and I can select the Text button. But if I go to another page and try to do it again, it disappears again. Very frustrating.
Any ideas?

As to establishing a proper "order" - you want to be working out of the Tags panel.
Reliance on TORU to establish a proper tag tree having proper PDF tag semantics can often leave one with a really gobbered PDF.

TouchUp Reading Order Tool - invisible Text

Last time I used the TouchUp Reading Order tool (in order to mark out columns of text to copy into a spreadsheet) in November, it worked with no problems. However, when I do this using Acrobat 9.3.0 the text below the first line disappears once I select the content type. The text is still there and I can select it, but it is not visible, even if the page structure is cleared.
Can anyone else reproduce this or am I doing something odd?

Where is the TouchUp Reading Order Tool in Adobe Acrobat X

Hi,
Our company just switched to Adobe Acrobat X and I'm having issues with some of the tools. In the old adobe acrobat I was able to use the TouchUp Reading Order Tool; does that tool still exist in X? I've tried the Edit Object tool but it's not working for me. I've tried holding down shift and the Edit Object tool but that doesn't seem to work also.
Please help if you can.

In the Tools section on the right in Acrobat X, not all the possible tools are displayed. From the flyout menu at the upper right select the Accessibility section and you'll find it there.

TouchUp Reading Order Tool Misbehaving

I'm having problems with the TouchUp Reading order tool. When I move a field to a new (correct) place, it arbitrarily moves it to another place entirely and usually throws the entire list out of order. What can I do to prevent this?

TouchUp Reading Order tool moves or just deletes page content!?

Using Acrobat X to make documents 508 compliant. I've had a number of issues when trying to tag a figure, it ends up moving the figure to a different page or deleting it altogether. Also I've has issues when trying to adjust the reading order, content is moved or deleted.
How can adjusting structure completely delete content? Really bad bug. Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks.

My structure in the tags panel is ordered correctly, and the document exported from inDesign is tagged and ordered correctly. However, when I look at the reading order tab the reading order is wrong. I need to use the reading order tab to reorganize the order in which items are read by screen readers (this is as according to Adobe training, e.g. http://tv.adobe.com/watch/accessibility-adobe/preparing-indesign-files-for-accessibility/). Is there another tool that will allow me to organize the reading/tab order (without deleting some of the content in my tables)?
I am also having the additional problem that sometimes, not always, when I use the reading order panel to reorganize reading order, my tables lose their tagging as tables - I am worried that this will mean screen readers will not recognize the data as a table and will not read it accordingly (by header cell and then content cell).
Can you provide any help?

TouchUp Reading Order won't separate areas of text

Hi all,
I am SO frustrated. I have a 4 page document that needs to be tagged for reading by JAWS. I have 3 images that show what I'm trying to do:
First I have selected the question number. Then I have selected the text of the question.
Now I have selected and tagged the first graphic:
And now I'm trying to select the answer, True and it combines the question above WITH the first answer text, ignoring that the graphic should be read first:
How can I get it to STOP grabbing things out of order?

Sue,
TORU's "select" is of block levels of text flow. It is not designed for anything more granular.
For less trial and tribulation you'd want to master content in the authoring file to establish the desired logical hierarchy.
(e.g., if a "heading" then built-in headings used, using the insert table feature, etc.)
Couple this with appropriate tag management (i.e., Acrobat's PDFMaker) to output a Tagged PDF that is well-formed.
For the foreseeable future Acrobat Pro will be needed to "wrap it up" via the requisite post-processing work within the structure tree and the PDF page content (when applicable).
With that said, if you have to manually tag the work environment needs to be the structure tree and an element's appropriate PDF page content.
TORU lets you polish off any Table elements.
Remember, AT uses the structure tree to ascertain the logical hierarchy and related page content.
Proper integration of structure tree - logical hierarchy - page content (a well-formed Tagged PDF) establishes the "order" for AT.
With page content addressed move on to any form fields that may be present.
A thumb-rule — if manually "tagging" stay away from the Order panel. Success lives in the Tags panel.

In Acrobat CIB,lesson 19, why can't I edit the reading order?

Images are supposed to be 1,3,5 and their captions 2,4,6. My issue is that they switch...okay, i draw my rectangle around image 1 click the figure button in the TouchUp Reading Order dialog box, then draw my rectangle around caption 1 and click the Figure/Caption button as the book directs, image ends up 2 and the caption 1. when I finish drawing rectangles around all 6 they are ordered 1,2,3,4,5,6. Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated, this is the last lesson! Thanks a bunch

Have you looked at re-arranging the reading-order itself under View/Navigation Panels/Order/
This will provide you with the ability to fine-tune content for reflow and read-aloud ..

Safari 3.0.4 on OS 10.5.1 not crashing but browser windows DISAPPEAR! Help!

I know there is a thread in the beta forum with a generic title "Safari acting strange" but I figured a more specific thread title might get more attention from those experiencing the same anomalies.
Here is my problem:
I'm using Safari 3.0.4 that came with the Leopard 10.5 disk I installed on my laptop. Safari was working fine for a good couple weeks and then suddenly it began acting strange indeed.
Now after an undetermined amount of time when I have a Safari browser window(s)/tab(s) open it will suddenly disappear off my screen without provocation (meaning I don't have to perform any action to do this. I can be sitting there not touching the laptop or typing anything; it will just disappear as if some unseen person with a remote control hits the Let's-mess-with-this-guy's-computer button). At first glance it seems that Safari has crashed.
However when I look to see what happened or perhaps relaunch I see that Safari is still up and running. The menu bars all work. It seems to be in perfect working order. Only problem is the browser windows have disappeared and nothing I do will bring them back. I can try to create new browser windows and Safar thinks it is creating them because I can check in Windows menu and see the fruits of my efforts stacking up more and more as I add new windows and tabs in an attempt to get the browser windows back. However where these windows live is a mystery to me. When I try to quit Safari I get an Alert message asking me if I really want to close the windows with the multiple tabs in them (further supporting the theory that Safari still thinks windows are open and seeable by me)
When I DO quit Safari and relaunch it, it remains in the same state. No browser window is seen yet looking in the Windows menu I can see that a new browser window is present. The only way to use my Safari again is to reboot my computer. Of course this fixes the problem for maybe 5 minutes until the browser windows disappear again. And that's when I switch to Firefox.
I've repaired permissions. I've checked for any Input Managers folder for culprits but seeing as this is a fairly new laptop and that I just did an Archive and Install of Leopard with a fresh Safari in toe I have not installed any 3rd party applications so no Input Managers folder exists anywhere on my laptop.
I have the standard Safari Plug-Ins that come with Quicktime.
I have Spaces turned off. I am not using dual monitors so the browser windows are not being shot off to a second screen somewhere.
I see nothing in the crashlog because I actually don't think Safari is treating this behavior as a crash. It's not quitting unexpectedly or anything.
So I am at a total loss. Any ideas?

I had this problem as well.
First: In Safari go into preferences and select the "security" tab. Uncheck "Enable Plug-ins"
This fixed a lot of bugs for me !
Second: If that worked than you just need to go to Hard Drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
There should be a folder there that is called "Disabled Plug-Ins" I just put all of the plug-ins in that folder, went back and rechecked " Enable Plug-Ins" in Safari preferences, and then one by one added plug-ins back out of the disabled folder while reloading a web page that caused problems before. After some trial & error I think I have a setup that works for now. Hope this helps!! Also as of now I have installed all software updates. My mac has been doing this for a while. Logging out & back in reset safari back to where it was useable.
I have not had problems with any other programs.

Mail Windows disappear

I have a problem on my Macbook Pro where the Mail windows disappear. Mail shows as active, and the header is visible, but I can not access any Mail window. If I click on "show all windows" from the Dock; it shows me 5 windows right now, but I can not access any of them. If I click on actions from the header; for example, new message, nothing appears on screen, but if I then click on "Show all Windows", it is visible, but not accessible. The only way I have found to resolve this issue is to close and restart Mail. Your suggestions are appreciated.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

I am developing a crystal report in sap business one 8.8. I read SAP document '"How to working with crystal report in sap business one" I know we could link report field to Item master data window use 'http://$b1$/link?table=OITM&key='+{POR1.ItemCode}
I also can use 'http://$b1$/link?table=OCRD&key='+{OPOR.CardCode} to link to business partner window.
But I have trouble use purchase DocNum to link to purchase order window. First I get error of formular require string when use

I did some search and found ('http://$b1$/link?table=OINV&key=' & totext({OINV.DocNum},0)). I add totext into my formular

I run that report and get IE open when click DocNum with http://$b1$/link?table=OPOR&Key=9,917 rather than open purchase order window.
Please help me crystal report experts. I know I must miss something in there.

ICal week view window is gone. When selected the window disappears.

Whenever I click on view->week view (or just the "week" button on the bottom row) my ical window disappears. No idea where it is going. If I click on view->day/month the window comes back. However, after it comes back in day or month view, the info sidebar (and button at the bottom to control it, along with the todo and results list buttons beside it) now isn't there.
Any ideas how to fix this? I think it happened when I plugged my laptop into a 1024x768 projector and then changed my mind quickly and unplugged it, but it has been like this for a couple of weeks now through several reboots etc.
This is a macbook pro running tiger.

Often iCal display anomalies can be rectified by refreshing the iCal plist file.
Quit iCal, and drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and check iCal for desired behavior.

Mail messages window disappear when searching

Hello,
I'm using Mail 8.0 on OS X 10.10 (14A389). With French language and localisation. This is something I already noticed in Public Beta.
I have my Sent folder selected (maybe it would happen with another). I start typing something in the search box. Then the whole main messages window disappear immediately. But Mail thinks it's still visible. Even search suggestions continues to show. Typing cmd+0 to hide/show the messages window does not help.
I have to restart Mail to get my messages window back.
This happens randomly. After restarting Mail I can search as usual without the window disappearing. But sometimes later it will happen again.
Anyone encounters this too? Is this known from Apple? Any better temporary workaround than restarting Mail?

It still happens and it really gets boring. I have Mail 8.0 (1990.1). It happens from any folder selected: Inbox, Sent, Smart Inboxes...
How could such a bug remain undetected and not fixed asap? Maybe it's a plot from Apple to get us to ditch Mail and instead buy Unibox, Sparrow or Airmail from the Mac App Store so they get more $$$ commissions?

How to define reading order independent of pages?

I need to use the reading order tools to make PDF files accessible. The document I'm currently working with is a standard trifold brochure, which has the outer panels on the first page of a landscape-oriented, letter-size document, and the inner panels on the second. In this common scenario, the proper reading order, reflecting how one would read a folded hard copy, is:
the right column of page 1 (outside; cover)
the left, center, and right columns of page 2, respectively (inside)
the left and center columns of page 1 (outside; the center column is the back)
Clearly, this requires the linearized reading order to begin on page 1, continue onto page 2, then return to page 1. However, I can find no way to do this with the tools in Acrobat. Can someone please help?

You need to start with a tagged PDF.
The tagged PDF must have a welll-formed structure tree.
From that 'foundation' you can work with read order, reflow & accessibility.
Much of what you desire can be established upfront in the authoring application provided the application provides support for tag management of tagged output PDF.
Currently, the three applications that provide reliable tag management are Adobe's FrameMaker, InDesign and Microsoft Word (via Adobe's PDFMaker or Net-Centric's 'PAWs' plug-in for MS Word.
Other applications provide various degrees of tag management; however, the tagged output PDF's structure tag tree is not as well-formed and calls for more manual editing of the PDF structure tag tree.

If your document is authored in Publisher be sure to use Adobe PDFMaker, configured to support accessibility, to provide your initial tagged output PDF. Then, with Acrobat Professional, perform the requisite manual edit of the structure tree.
Something else to look at.
For multi-column PDFs you can manually establish Articles & Article flow to walk a column's thread through pages.
