Tour shuts down after a period of time have to plug into charger for reboot
Today I noticed that my phone will shut off after a little while of inactivity. The battery will be mostly full, and it thinks it dies. So inorder to reboot you must plug it into the charger. Once you plug it into the charger you get the image of the battery with a bolt in the middle of the screen. After a few minutes of charging it resets to the home screen, and after another period of time it will do it again. You might think this is occurring because the battery is dead but the battery will be 50% maybe a little more or a little less. I am wondering if this is an OS problem or something that is just wrong with my phone...
That definitely sounds like a phone issue. We had a user with a similar problem that ended up getting her phone replaced. She hasn't had any issues since.

Macbook Pro keeps shutting down after a period of inactivity
I don't know if my problem is related to this but after trying to set up Apple's 1Password, my laptop now shuts down after some time after I put it to sleep or even if I don't put it to sleep but don't use it for awhile. Any ideas?

Just installed Lion, and it won't shutdown!
The only way it'll shut down is if it drains the battery.
Help!
JLots of other people are complaining about their Macs taking long times to shutdown. Some solved it by reinstalling Lion from scratch (without using a Time Machine backup and simply copying all their files on to the new install).
Others discovered old software that is no longer compatible with Lion (I found Mac The Ripper in mine, plus many others on day 1). I uninstalled some apps using App Cleaner (google it, it's free and it's awesome).
I was having a hard time shutting down my macbook pro, now it's back to normal.
Try finding applications that are not compatible with Lion. Their icons should be greyed out and with a diagonal line crossing it. Make sure you erase these applications and library related files, which is very simple if you use App Cleaner. And make sure you look into sub-folders inside the Applications folder, as I missed a couple because they were not immediately visible.
Hope it helps. If it does, let us know. -
When I remove the battery charger the computer completely shuts down and won't start up without the battery charger. I have to restart all my windows when I turn it back on. Before it would just go to sleep and if it was charged it would come back on without batter. Any suggestions on what this can be?

High CPU using process slowed down after a period of time
Hi,
I am running a Finite element commercial solver, our tipical installations are with windows server 2008 but now we were force to move to windows server 2012.
When we launch the solver, which may be working with up to 20 cores, the CPU usage remains consistent for about 40 minute/1 hour then drops to the usage of only one core without having completed the process, which complete several hours later.
We already tried putting the power management at High performance, but didn't solve.
Are there any suggestion regarding where to look at?
Thanks
RaffaelloHi,
First, please make sure your hardware support windows server 2012. I’m not sure what “Finite element commercial solver” is. So I just treat it as a kind of software. Is there
any compatibility with the software with the new OS?
Process Monitor may help address the issue.

IBook shuts down after upgrading from 10.3.3 to 10.3.9
Hi...I tried upgrading an old iBook G3 700 MHz from OS X 10.3.3 to 10.3.9 (combo). Now it won't finish
starting up. I press power, I do hear the chime and get to the point where the first screen with
the simple apple logo shows, but then after 5 seconds it shuts down again. I do hear the disk
going briefly during this time.
I booted with the hardware diagnostics CD that came with the machine, and all tests passed OK
- both the quick tests and the extended tests.
Wanted to just try reinstalling from the Panther CD set that I have, but I've found that I can't
boot from those CDs - does the same thing, shows the apple logo, then shuts down after 5 seconds.
I tried restarting in single user mode, it doesn't seem to get very far - I get the black screen, it
prints about 5 lines of information, then one line saying "Using 983 buffer headers..." and then
it shuts down. Seems like it's not getting far at all into the boot process.
Any thought's on what to try next? Wish I could just reinstall, wiping the slate clean, but even
that doesn't work!
Thanks in advance for any help...
- BruceSuccess! This is so bizarre...
I have two Mac laptops, the iBook 700 MHz that's having the problem, and a newer
PowerBook G4. A few days ago I wanted to recharge the iBook...I've been very diligent
up to this point to use the correct charger with each laptop, the one that each came
with.
I got lazy this last time...plugged the charger for the newer PowerBook into the
older iBook. Then I did the upgrade, and then I shut down the machine. It was after
that that I had problems restarting.
I got suspicious just now and looked at each charger. Thought they would be
interchangeable, but on looking at them the charger for the older iBook says output
is 24v 1.875A, while the one for the PowerBook is 24v 2.65A.
Knowing that there's a PMU (Power Management Unit) in these machines and that it
has settable parameters, I thought, what the heck, plug the correct charger back into
the iBook, just to see what happens. Voila, it started up OK!!!
What the heck ?!?!
I'm pretty well versed in computers (work with Unix and Linux regularly, love the
Mac OS X command line!), just don't understand everything that goes on under the
hood with the Macs these days.
Just to get some final closure on this problem, can anyone explain why doing what
I did resolved the issue? I'd really like to learn from my mistakes.
Thanks to Rhonda and S.U. who responded so quickly for my plea for help!

Ipad shuts down after 10 minutes
While i am using my iPad listening to a audio newsstand iPad shuts off after a period of time. How can i lengthen time
so it doesn't shut off?Shuts off, or just goes to sleep?
Sounds like you have auto-lock on (if it is just going to sleep). Go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock, change to Never or whatever time you desire. -
tried updating to ios 6 on iphone 4 has completely shut my phone off tells me i have to plug into itunes and restore to factory settings but will not let me do this?? need help???

What should I do short of restoring my phone to factory settings?
Nothing. The message means you MUST restore your phone to factory settings. There's no way around this . Your phone is in recovery mode. That's the only way to get it out. -
I have two users on my computer, when they are both logged out and the computer is at the welcome page, I need the computer to stay on , as I need to remote accsess it.But the computer turns off after a period of time, even though in settings, I have all
the power setting to never off.
How do I stop the computer turning it self off, when there is no one logged in, and on the welcome page?
Thanx.Check in BIOS sometimes for hours shut down.
Is the computer starts then straight without a problem? If you do not check the temperature of the processor.
Start your computer in safe mode and remove programs that start automatically by MSCONFIG

MacBook Pro shuts down after periods of inactivity
I had a 6-year old MacBook Pro. Besides just being a bit old and tired it would attempt to shut down after periods of inactivity. I tried setting it to never sleep. I tried the whole reset thing where you take the battery out and hold the power button for 5 seconds. I bought new memory for it. Eventually I used it as an excuse to buy a new machine.
Of course I copied my image over to the new MacBook. Now I know its not a hardware issue because it still happens!
I also have other quirky issues (probably not related, but who knows).
I just cannot get my remote (or any apple remote to work).
I have an empty folder that I can't delete–it crashes the system.
Aperature hangs up all the time
VMware hangs up all the time
Firefox and Chrome both hang up
Sometimes I have to force quit Mail
Is this a good time to do a clean install?Resetting the SMC doesn't seem to have done anything. The progress bar hasn't reached the end to shut down yet, but so far, it's displaying the same behavior.

Why it takes long time to shut down after i upgrade to OS X ver 10.8.2?
why it takes long time to shut down after i upgrade to OS X ver 10.8.2?
Can't really say, but I see this occurring on all of my Macs since the 10.8.2 update and keep reading about it at several other Mac user boards.
Bottom line: it's a general problem, but more of an inconvenience, than a serious problem. Probably will be solved with the next update. -
Mac book pro mid 2009 shuts down after a few hour of use and then is very difficult to reboot. Sometimes I have to wait hours, sometimes I have to repeatedly press the power button and then it will slowly start a little longer each press untill it completely boots. It has done this three times know. Each time I was watching a video.
Try running the Apple Hardware Test - sounds as if you've hardware issues.

if you are subscribed to the Hardwell podcast... quickly open the Podcast app and delete the most recent Hardwell podcast from 3/22.

Powerbook g4 shut down after turning on for the first time every day
in recent 2 weeks, my g4 suddenly shut down after turning on 5min to several hours the 1st time everyday. after turning on 2nd time, a note show on the screen that "your computer clock is set to a date before March 24th, 2001, this may cause some applicaiton to behavior erratically" and recommed to reset the date and time. but the time is correct when i check the date&time. the battery is not out of power at that time. anyone has the same problem?
I'm not really familiar with System Optimizer, but I guess it is somewhat like Onyx or Cocktail, a system utility. You must be cleaning your caches too deeply. When you launch a document after this, an alert message appears. This relates to Security Update 2004-06-07 which was issued before 10.4 was released. So it existed in Panther, too. I would say if your utility gives you any control of what is cleaned in your caches, be choosy about it. See Dr. Smoke's FAQ here:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
If I might quote one passage:"However, after performing a System-level cache cleaning, you may again see these alerts for previously-approved applications as a System-level cache cleaning may remove the
com.apple.LaunchServices*.csstore
files in your Computer > Mac OS X > Library > Caches folder. These files save, among other things, information indicating the applications you have previously approved for launch. Some cache-cleaning utilities retain these files to preserve your list of approved applications, while others remove them as they are saved in a System-related cache folder."
However, it would be best if you read the entire FAQ.
