Tour upgrade

I am thinking about purchasing the tour in the next couple of days. I heard that the tour 2 should be coming out soon, but I really cannot wait to get a phone. If i get the tour, is there a way to upgrade to the tour 2 when it comes out?

In a "blurb?" What exactly does that mean?
The sms text messages are are now grouped together in a conversation style or "threaded" format. It's like an Instant Messenger style.

Tour upgrade ever coming

Addressed to VZW/RIM, are we ever going to get a descent OS upgrade for the Tour, or is this just a ploy to make us buy another phone? I would like my Tour if it work as good as my palm did. That sound you hear is me knocking my head against the wall.

My Verizon Tour is a disaster - how can I switch to Bold before my upgrade?

For the last year, the Tour has been my living nightmare. I went through 4 different tours. Between bad track balls and poor reception, none of them have worked properly.
The phone drops out all the time in my home. I live in a sunny apt. My fiancee's Iphone works fine...my old World Phone - which is too dilapidated to switch back to - worked fine. I seriously think it's the Tour phone.
I'm a freelancer going through tough times. It's additionally inconvenient that my Tour forces me outside my house to make and receive business calls in fear of the frequent call drop.
I don't have a ton of disposable income, so I've been sticking it out. BUT with this new Bold coming out, it looks like it could solve my problems if I could perhaps just try it... however, my upgrade doesn't come until 13 months after I bought the Tour... which is next August. Two more months of running outside when I need to talk to someone important.
While it's true that I'd rather have a Verizon BB over an ATT Iphone, I'd rather an Iphone that works over a BB that doesn't. And I'm tempted to take advantage of the 99 dollar Iphones at Walmart.
Does anyone have any tips to help get me an earlier upgrade before Verizon loses me as a customer? I really don't want to switch but I called Verizon, told them my situation - and they were polite but their solution was "wait it out for another two months." I guess they want me to complete my Tour penance. It was kind of disheartening.

It reminds me of my Windows Vista experience. I was humming along of Windows XP; I made the mistake of going to Windows Vista, and then everything I took for granted turned into a customer service nightmare. I hated being the complain-y guy, I'm the kind of guy who doesn't send back food in a restaurant unless the mistake is egregious. Without quite intending to, customer service made me feel it would be better to start over with a new OS.
In this case, I'm also simply asking for the service to work again... and I think the early upgrade would be the best shot at doing the trick. The parallel would would be if Microsoft had discounted Windows 7 after Vista had ruined my life.
I suppose I could try going off data entirely. Do you guys know a good phone that would be cheap? The Verizon/Blackberry combo that worked so well a year ago is not really justifying it's 120 dollar a month price. Like the Vista situation, without intending to - because the Verizon reps have been very polite - they're making me feel like they would prefer me to start over with another carrier.

Just upgraded to Tour on Verizon two days ago...

Need some help/opinions..BB Tour 9630
After everything I do, I "lock" the keypad using the lock button on top of the phone...it seems there is becoming an increased "lag" sometimes after unlocking the device before I can do anything. It's almost as if the phone is frozen for a 12-15 sec period after unlocking it...
also..
After typing a text message/SMS...I select SEND using the menu...there is a slight "lag" in displaying the message in the message list after a short "lag" to bring me back TO the message list at all. - like a 'hick-up' almost
and...
Sometimes the alert sounds are not what I have them selected to be...It's as if they return to default or something periodically...again, it seems to have something to do with the LOCK function...
I have used the destop software to clear the phone and re-install the software again with no improvement. I am using the latest software version 4.7.161 (platform 4.1.0.81)
Other than that..I love it. Mostly like the Curve, with a few upgrades/improvements.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

On the SMS issue... look at your OPtions > SMS and set the number of previous items to something less, like 2 or 3 and see if that helps any.

BB TOUR SEVERELY DECREASED BATTERY LIFE AFTER 5.0 OS UPGRADE

I have read several other posts on this subject, but want fresh input here. Since upgrading to the 5.0 OS a couple of months ago I have noticed a big decrease in battery life. It used to last 2 days off a full charge and I do a lot of data, calling, etc. This was not a problem with the 4.7 OS. I got a replacement battery, then bought a spare battery, then got a replacement Tour last week as it is under warranty and Verizon convinced me it was the device itself.
The new Tour came with 5.0 loaded and the battery life is the same. I now am convinced it has to be the 5.0 OS, because we shouldn't have to go through all these power saving strategies that we didn't have to before the upgrade. I like some of the things that you get with the 5.0, but if a battery that doesn't last a full day is the trade off, no thanks.
Anyone know of any other fix, or is it best to downgrade back to 4.7?

I have the same problem. I have the 8900 and just upgraded to v5.0.0.822 this week. My battery only last a 1/2 day (from 7 am to 3 pm) when it use to last 2 days before the upgrade.
I have my screen lighting set to 10%. This helped in the past with battery life. The only processes running in the background are:

BlackBerry Messenger
Home Screen
Browser
Messages
Any solutions? Is there any type of help desk I can call?

Verizon Upgrade has messed up Slacker Radio for Blackberry Tour 9630

About a week or two ago I got an upgrade Icon on my phone for I think a 5. something version. I upgraded my phone and it took quite a long time. Since the upgrade I had to add back some of my apps. I didn't have to add Slacker Radio back, but now it does not work as great as it did before. I deleted the app and downloaded it again to a new version. It constantly crashes and is buffering and rarely plays any music. I also downloaded Pandora, thinking there was something wrong with the new Slacker, but Pandora errors out and plays even less.

You may need to wait for Slacker to update their app. This is annoying, I know, but not uncommon after an update like this.

I am a virtual tour provider. My toursare quicktime files and until I upgraded to Firefox 8.0.1 today I could navigate the tour smoothy around the room with the cursor. Now it is very choppy. Do you know why??

So I'm basically just a simple photographer. But from what I understand my Quicktime tours will no longer run smoothly as they have on all browsers for the last four years with these new updates? Unless I change to a new file format which is yet to be decided? The tours run fine as individual quicktime files so it is not quicktime. They just start to operate badly once loaded into the web template/skin and viewed on these updated browsers. Take a look at an example on the new firefox browser and than check it out on an older version or safari all is good.

If you check the drop down in the lower right corner of the tour template and choose "save as quicktime movie" and then just click the movie it runs smoothly from the desktop.
It is already a big enough job to get people to be able to view these so the idea of having to give people more instructions to go in and change setting is Quicktime isn't realistic and I couldn't even figure it out. (Not surprising because I am not a programmer.) One of my competitors uses Flash which I thought would die out while Quicktime and Html5 would become the norm. At least the flash tours are reliable on these updated browsers. I'm confused and frustrated since delivering these tours is half the revenue of a very good business and all of a sudden they work terribly.

Tour 9630 OS 5.0 Upgrade?

When can we expect the new upgrade from Verizon? Other carriers are releasing theirs. Why isn't Verizon following suit?

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!

New BB Tour owner wants to upgrade micro SD card

Just wondering if it is necessary to change out the 2gig card that came with my tour. I was considering only an 8 gig card.
My adult son said I don't need it. It won't be long before I have my family album of pics on it and maybe a few short vids.
I was going to load all my mp3's on it but I've really enjoyed the Slacker and Pandora music services... Not to mention free internet radio.
I think 8 gigs is reasonable... If it's totally unnecessary, then I won't.
For those of you who have had yours for more than a couple of weeks, what do you think? I'm just a lowly noob.

Depending on what OS your BlackBerry is tells you what size microSD card you can buy. You can check under Options | About (will be listed as v4.xx.xxx). Look at the chart at the following link to see what size you can obtain - http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461
The BlackBerry supports both microSD and microSDHC cards. SDHC is a newer format that supports much higher total capacity than the SD cards.
Any brands should so. Most popular brands may be SanDisk or Kingston. I have a 2GB Kingston one.
You have to see about loading another carrier's 8830 to get the 4.5 OS to get a higher capacity card. As always before any software update, make sure you backup your device by using the Desktop Manager's Backup and Restore feature.
Can follow the steps here, but you'd have to find the 8830 somewhere else to download it . The below steps are for the 8800 model.

I lost all text messages that I have been saving since November 2009 when I upgraded. I know now that I should have backed up before upgrading but is there any way to retrieve them? They were MEGGA important to be used in court important!

If you want to try going back to version 3.6, here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Close Firefox 5 and run the Firefox 3.6 installer.
Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

Sprint Tour OS upgrade download failure

So, I successfully downloaded my update on Friday, but today all of a sudden there is a problem. My AppLoader keeps timing out at the same point downloading one file:

The file referenced above is currently failing to download after 1188KB are downloaded. This error occurs when using the AppLoader and when directly putting this link into my browser.

I used the wireless update feature. It worked perfectly. It seemed to install as a patch as opposed to completely uninstalling and then reinstalling the new OS. I had no major problems with the 3rd. Party APS that were also on the phone. Other than inputting a few registration codes the phone returned to its original configuration with no loss of contacts, messages, programs, etc. It also took far less time and fewer glitches than when I had previously used the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to install the new OS.

Problems with Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Tour BlackBerry OS 4.7.1.61 update - I was anxious to download the update to see if it addressed the sticky trackball problems and the low volume issue when using a blue tooth device. However, in the process of updating my BB Tour yesterday, the install stopped on the 8th out 12 updates. After a couple of 'retrys', the BB error message on the desktop came up which instructed me to: i) disconnect the device, ii) restart the computer. iii) restart the loading process and, iV) restore my data by loading the loader back-up file using Restore. Unfortunately my Tour was left without any software and the Desktop manager couldn't recognize it. The error message on the Tour was 503. Called Verizon Wireless tech and bottom line, the only fix is a new Tour, which they're sending me. Anyone else having issues with the update? Also, does it address the trackball and blue tooth issues?

I had issues with the trackball and had to have my Tour replaced. I was told this model does not have a removable trackball so the entire phone has to be replaced. My current one is working OK but does stick a bit. Seems to get worse over time. My wife's tour is newer and so far she is not experiencing the problem. Have not experienced a problem with the Blue Tooth volume.
I have another issue with this upgrade that I am wondering if anyone else has seen. My wife has the Tour as well. She was prompted to do the upgrade and went through it. It appeared to work except it blew out her Contact Alerts. When we put them back in we can no longer get the sound to play when she receives an SMS message in her holster. Vibration works but doesn't do any good when it is in her purse. Phones calls, calendar alerts, alarms all work in holster. As soon as we delete the contact alert the default SMS alert will play in the holster. If she takes her phone out of the holster the Contact alert will play. My phone is still running 4.7.1.40 and this function works fine. I am thinking about trying to put her's back to my version if possible but not sure the best way to go about this

Bluetooth Headset will not work following upgrade of PC desktop software

Recently I updated my laptop with the latest desktop software in order to allow synchronization between Microsoft Office 2010 and my blackberry tour.
The sync works!
But now that I have upgraded, I am having a problem with my bluetooth headset.
After syncing my phone to my PC over bluetooth, my bluetooth headset connects to the phone ok but when you try to use it no sound comes through either the headset ear piece or the phone.
So if you try and dial a number, the phone rings where you are calling but you cannot hear the ringing or the person on the other end once they have answered it.
To correct the problem you have to remove the battery from the phone. Then once you replace the battery and wait 5 - 7 minutes for the phone to re-initialize the headset works just fine. Until the next time you sync the phone with the laptop of course. Then the headset stops working again.
I have tried deleting all the bluetooth devices from the phone and re-connecting them. Does not help.
Anyone else seeing this problem?
This is my 2nd blackberry. My 1st was a Perl on T-Mobile. Never had a problem. But this tour from verizon has be a problem from the start. Think my next phone is likely to be anything but blackberry!

I would suggest you back up your BlackBerry data and clear the Bluetooth Options database. Re-Pair your headset and try making calls again.
KB10167 will show you how to clear individual databases.
