TP 60 Access connection - Preferred AP MAC address disabled permanently

I have at home WiFi Router and WiFi repeater. They both are visible, but Router has weak signal, Repeater strong signal. TP not like to connect to Repeater. Problem, that preferred AP MAC address field is always disabled in Connection wizard (profile).
Access Connection v.5.72 - last recommended for my PC. WiFi adapter 11 a/b/g/n/ Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter (Atheros Communication Inc), driver 2.0.0.75
Any idea?

  • WAP4410N Connectivity control - Illegal MAC address

I use a WAP4410N in Access Point mode and have it configured to control connectivity via approved MAC addresses.
I have just taken delivery of a Nokia 5800 mobile phone from Three that has a MAC address EC:9B:5B:xx:xx:xx.
When entering the 5800 MAC address in the WAP4410N's connectivity control table I get a popup warning "MAC address must be 12  Hex characters (0-9 and A-F) with optional delimiters (: or -), and the second bit is not a odd number". Although it is given as a "warning" it will not accept the MAC address.
I could of course disable the wifi MAC connectivity control without compromising the security too much, but this would be a last resort.
Is there any way around this?
Would you advise me to return the phone (would be a real hassle!!) because it may give problems in the future on other wifi networks?
If I do return the phone there is no guarantee that the replacement would have a more "standard" MAC address. My wife took delivery of the same phone yesterday, but from Orange. It's MAC address starts 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and has presented no problem. I have lodged queries with both Three and Nokia, but had no response as yet.

Update: There was something else wrong with this phone (radio didn't work) so I had to return it to my service provider anyway. The replacement phone had a legal MAC address so all is now well.
I would still be interested in the answers to my questions though if anyone has any wisdom in these matters.

  • Tcl script to change access vlan based on MAC address

Hello all.  I'm looking for some input on how best to handle this situation. I have a large nework with a lot of remote offices where we have limited control over users moving around patch cables. We're using vlan-based QoS in these office to mark voice, video, data. etc. The problem I'm having is that our users are moving video conferencing equipment to different interfaces on our swithes, which puts the VTC unit in a different vlan, fouling our QoS policy.  They then call and complain about poor video quality.
I'm trying to come up with a way to automate putting the interface in the video vlan if a VTC unit is connected. All of our video conferencing units are from the same vendor, so they have same OUI in the MAC address. The script I've been working on looks for a line protocol up event, then checks to see what access vlan is configured on the interface. If the interface is already in the video vlan, the script exits.  if the interface is not in the video vlan, the script looks at the MAC address table for the interface and if the OUI matches a VTC unit, the script changes interface configuration. My question is, is there a better event to trigger script execution? Maybe a MAC notification trap, or something else? Line protocol transitions when the access vlan is changed, so the current script runs twice: once when the interface first comes up with a new connection, and again when the vlan is changed.
Script is attached.  Any help or advice is appreciated!

Does your video equipment use CDP?  If so, then you can use the neighbor-discovery event detector to only react when you see a media endpoint being connected to a port.  Yes, MAC address notifications (the mat ED) can also work if you know the MACs of your media endpoints.

  • Time Capsule: Connection possible despite mac address control activated

    AirPort Utility version 7.5.2
I control access to my wireless network with WPA2 and restricted mac addresses for years now and I know it worked - but not anymore.
I recently realized, that it is possible to connect a "new" device without registration currently, only the correct password is necessary. I noticed this first when my new iPhone could connect with only password and could reproduce this with another iPhone and a notebook of a friend.
Checking Time Capsule settings everything is okay, mac address controls are set to "Timed Access".
I can't find an explanation for this behaviour on my side and I'm afraid this is a software problem. Can with the same configuration check against please?

but you can set access to "never", this does the job too.
Correct. That is what I meant when I said that you can "edit" it.
I have lobbied Apple several times to make this setting and setup more clear. Most users do not understand the confusing "default" rule, which allows access to any computer with the password unless the MAC address is listed in a separate rule. Users assume that no computer will be allowed access unless it is specifically allowed, when that is not the case. It is really confusing.

  • Macbook pro trying to connect to wrong mac address?

    Hey everyone,
    I'm running on a 2010 Macbook Pro OS X 10.7.2.
Basically, my 309g-m stopped working the other day. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and software, but it still refuses to print (I get stuck at "looking for printer"). I have, however, noticed that when I'm adding a printer in system preferences, the printer is listed as "Photosmart Premium C309g-m [F1EDA7]." However, after connecting my printer to my network (via the printer), the page printed listed that my Hardware Address (MAC) is "78:e7:d1:f1:ed:a8" - So I think my Macbook is trying to connect to the wrong mac address.
    Any ideas?
P.S. I've tried to connect via IP and my computer cannot find the printer.

No, that all looks good.  Your printer's unique "name" is HP plus the last 6 digits of your printer's MAC address.
On the front of the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Network Test.  What does it say about the printer's wireless radio?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Can i set this thing (wrt54g v6) to only allow access to the listed MAC addresses?

    The subject is pretty self-explanatory...
I'm just not sure how to set up the restrictions to allow the listed machines and deny all others.

there is usually an option to "allow" or "deny" ....select the appropriate option.

  • Cant connect to Asus WL500-G premium (no security, locked MAC address)

    Hi,
I live in a rental apartment.
My landlord offered my internet, saying that i only need to provide him with my wireless MAc address, he type it in the AccessPoint (router) and i have internet.
Did so with my iphone and works like a charm...
I have difficulties with the MBP however.
I have given him the airport ID, he typed it in the routed pref like he dd with my iphone,. but no luck.
I can see the Access point, and i can get the wireless to work anywhere else with my MBP.
DOnt knwo what is the problem. Can it be that MBP simply doesnt like the ASUS router?
Any ideas what can be wrong?

Did he type it in properly? Another possibility. Ironically MAC filtering offers nearly no security vs. a proper WPA key so he'd be just as well off not bothering - ask him to turn off filtering just for a few minutes and see if you can access or not. If you can either your MAC address is not right or how he entered it is not right. His logs will show not permitting a connection and what MAC address was disallowed. Use that one.

  • LRT214 Access Policy using MAC address

I recent upgraded to the LRT214 from a Cisco RVS4000 On the RVS4000 I used the Access policy to block internet access to certain devices identified by their MAC address during certain times of the day.  This was very helpful for enfocing the time rules for my daughters Xbox to play games using the internet.  That functionality seems to be gone in the LRT214.  I see I can bind a MAC address to a IP and then retrict that IP but that seems cumbersome-- wondering if there is a way to restrict access using ONLY the MAC address?  thanks in advance.

    This is interesting!
I believe the Linksys device (LRT214) by design does not have the same feature as the Cisco's but basing from what I saw in the LRT's userguide, what you are trying to do can be achieved.
The LRT has the a Firewall Access Rule feature that allows blocking by creating a "deny" rule via IP where you can specify the time of duration. I think since you are going to bind the ip to a specific mac, it could help.
I have not tried it myself since I do not have the device at hand. I hope it will be work.

  • How to find which port on the switch that it connected with Mac address?

    Hi,
I am trying to find which port of the switches it connected to thru mac-address?
I am able to get the mac-address from the ip address when i do
"show ip dhcp binding snooping" at the core switch.
But when I move on to the Edge switch to check which PC with this Mac address connected to the port,i returned with no result.(onli trunk port result)
I use sh ip arp | inc 000d.60cb.445d
but didn't give me which port it connected to.
    How to solve this problem?
    thanks!
    KL

    Hi KL,
If you are already on the edge switch you can run a command "sh mac-address-table address " and it will give you the port number.
Incase you get a port which is a trunk port that means the end device does not exist on this switch and exist on some downstream switch. So you can just find out the ip address of the downstream switch with "sh cdp neigh detail" command and connect to that downstream switch and then again issue the command "sh mac-address-table address " and check the port number and follow the above steps till the time you get the switch on whcih end host is connected.
HTH, if yes please rate the post.

  • Wi-fi MAC address is invalid

Hi, i have a netgear router and i tried to access the wi-fi. It said that the password was incorrect, yet it was. I tried registering the MAC address into the router, but apparently the address is invalid. My address is F0:B4:79:62:0B:50, is that address valid? and if not, what do i do?
    thx, Connor

    - The MAC address you wrote is of the right format. Since it is unique to each device I can't tell if it is the one for your iPod. Are you sure that the password you entered is correct? Unless you turned it off, the first letter you entered is automatically capitalized. Carefully check each letter as you enter it. Also, some users have turned of Auto-Fill in Settings>Safari to get the password to work.
    - Have you powered off and then back on your router
    - Have you reset network settings:
    Settings>General>Reset Network Settings
    - Reset your iPod
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - The troubleshooting here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Entering the iPod's MAC address only helps if the router is set up to filter connections via the Mac address.

  • Time Capsule update not working for a few MAC addresses

Whenever I update the Timed Access Schedule list of MAC addresses, some of the Wireless MAC Addresses I include go back to unlimited access ("Everyday" "all day") after a while.
In other words, the "update" list configuration is accepted and works for some time; but the filter applied to some of the MAC addresses simply stop working after a while; therefore, those MAC addresses go back to the status of unrestricted access.
This is happening consistently and I am not being able to program some MAC addresses in my local network to follow the schedule I wish (i.e., accessing the network only within previously specified.
Has anyone experienced such a problem? Is that a bug? Any hints on how to solve this?

For some reason, all of a sudden my ethernet is not working on my time capsule. My wireless is running fine, but my xbox and tv box are not getting any connection. This does not make any sense to me.
Does anyone know what may cause such an issue?
If you restart the TC does it work again?
Check the connectivity leds on both ends if possible.. certainly each port on the TC has small, micro small LED.. is it green when you are plugged in??
You will need to connect a computer and attempt to ping the TC.. see if it passes packets.
How old is the TC? The model number from the rubber foot please.. A1xxx
And also if you can check the log from a computer if there are any issues.

  • Increase MAC Address List

hi, i have just installed a new wirless router wrt54gl. I want to configure the users should connect only using their mac only. but there is restrition to connect only 40 MAC Address. can any body help me to increase this list from 40 to more address.
    thanks in advnace.

Unless you install a 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or hyperwrt+thibor. See the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for a start. With 3rd party firmware you have more fields and you have full shell access to the Linux running on the router, i.e. you can actually as many entries you like (or fit in the memory).

  • ISE 1.2 disable endpoints with certain mac address

    Hi All,
We have an AD to authenticate for wireless users. In AD, we have specified to block the user if the password is entered wrongly for more than 3 times. The problem is some of them are using other user ID and locking the accounts. I have gotten the MAC address of the user. Can anyone please advise how to block the request from this MAC from even reaching the AD.
    Thanks

You have two options from ISE and one option from the WLC:
The first option which is not very scalable is to modify your authentication policy to deny access to an specific MAC address(Radius:Calling station ID). But this is not very scalable as you can only specify one MAC address.
Your second option is to enable the anomalous client suppression(under systems->settings->protocols->RADIUS). This will be your best option but it would require a bit of testing to identify what are the best values for your environment.
From the controller you can enable the excessive 802.1x authentication failures. By default it won't even send the fourth authentication to ISE for a failing endpoint:

  • Sh mac-address command in Cisco RSP4

    Hello guys,
Need your ideas on how to know to which port a device connected to using mac-address information on Cisco DLSw RSP4.

    Interesting hardware you have there.
Is this perhaps a cat 5xxx with an RSM module?
In that case, the RSM is in fact a router blade.
The command "sh mac-adress " is only found on switches. This info is there already but you need to get it from the supervisor which will be running CatOS.

  • Tools to find a mac address on a port in my network

I would like to find a tool to help me to easily locate a mac address on the network.
At the moment I use the following comands :
On the central switch : sh mac-address-table
then sh cdp neighbors to locate the witch on with the mac address is connected
    and sh mac-address-table again .

    Hi
With Ciscoworks Campus Manager you can easily find any MAC connected to your network. But you need to buy the LMS suite, and it's not for free :-)
An other way is to use a Layer 2 trace, but all devices in between have to support that feature, don't ask me which platforms/software releases, do it or not.
