TP connect to database fails in 4.0B_EXTN

Hi,
When we try to check the TP tools through STMS. It shows that database connect
failed.
On running the TP connect <SID> pf=...., command through the command
line,it also fails.
The 'TP' cannot connect to the database. I have applied the newest
TP available on the SAP service marketplace.
Our System details are as below.
OS - Windows 2003
Database - SQL 2000
SAP Version - 40B
Kernel Version - 40B_EXTN
We have installed this SAP version because we would like to upgrade our
SAP version from 4.0B to ECC 6.0
The error on the running the command is shown as below.
F:\usr\sap\trans\bin>tp connect DEH
This is tp version 252.08.37 (release 40B) for MSSQL database

Hi
I think u did not configure the STMS in 000 client after installtion SAP in your system.
Configuring Transport Management System

Hi gurues, I'm facing this issue with an IDES on MaxDB with Windows.
System was up and running until someone tries to make an upgrade of the kernel. Since then we can not start our system. we tried to rollback kernel release to the previous one but it didn't work.
When we start our system from MMC console we can see all process in green but work processes are in RUN state and after a few minutes they goes down with the following error

Natalia, this system was not resored nor copied, it was up and running before kernel update. We did some of the tests you said and someothers, here are some outputs.

  • Error Connect to database failed : sqlcode=-4008 in dev_w0

    Hi all,
    I have a testing ABAP ECC5 system (in Windows 2003, MaxDB 7.6 build 35).
After changing default passwords of DB users SAP<SID>, CONTROL, SUPERDBA using DBMGUI, I then run commands below to update new passwords in XUSER entries (according to SAP Note 39439):
    - xuser -U DEFAULT -u SAP<SID>,<password> -d <database_name> -n <database_server> -S SAPR3 -t 0 -I 0 set
    - xuser -U c -u CONTROL,<password> -d <database_name> -n <database_server> -S INTERNAL set
    - xuser -U w -u SUPERDBA,<password> -d <database_name> -n <database_server> -S INTERNAL set
The SAP system now cannot be started successfully. In dev_w0, there is info. like below:
"Connect to database failed : sqlcode=-4008 (Unknown user name/password combination)."
    Command "r3trans -d" returns 0.
In SAP Note 39439 I see that maybe I should update info. for OS user SAPService<SID>. But I don't know what "..." means in command "xuser -c <domain>\SAPService<SID> ..."
I searched SAP SDN & SAP Notes, but still cannot fix this.
Please guide me to update XUSER entries after changing passwords of DB users.
    Regards,

    > I have a testing ABAP ECC5 system (in Windows 2003, MaxDB 7.6 build 35).
Just as additional info: your database version is ancient - I suggest upgrading to a newer release.
    > In SAP Note 39439 I see that maybe I should update info. for OS user SAPService<SID>. But I don't know what "..." means in command "xuser -c <domain>\SAPService<SID> ..."
The SAP system runs under User SAPService<SID>, you're most likely logged on using <sid>adm, that's why your "R3trans -d" connect is successful.
You have to execute the same command for the entry DEFAULT also for user <DOMAIN>\SAPService<SID>, that's what the dots mean

  • Installation of CM fails(par files deployed but connection to database fail

    Hi,
I have just installed CM EP6 SP2 on an old sandbox system (which has been upgrade from SP0 I believe), and I have some problems. The installation went fine untill I got the error message "CJS-00276  The upgrade failed.  The installation report file cf_installation.report does not exist.  Check the log files under the server directory and, if necessary, contact your local support center." But  I, at least now, find the file but this is probably from my installation of CM SP2 Patch4 and CM SP2 Patch4 hf8 (I was hoping the installation of them would clear the problem).
I believe the problem is that there are missing some files under the SAPPRT share (
server\SAPPRT\EPS1\global\config\cm), this because it was giving some error messages earlier about it. I was running the portal under localsystem user, which hasn't got the possiblity to have access to share's. (I would get an exception about access denied from the file system when starting it up, but after changing the user I don't).
    Under
server\SAPPRT\EPS1\global\config\cm the portal has created the following folders:
    Backups
    config
    etc
    reports
<b>Are there any one missing ?</b>
(to resolve the problem I tried create the following folders, but still the same problem:
    system/updateQueue/events
    system/command
    system/deployment/archives
    system/deployment/upgrades
    utilities/connection_pools/db_type/default)
    The property files in \usr\sap\EPS1\j2ee\j2ee_01\cluster\server\services\servlet_jsp\work\jspTemp\irj\root\WEB-INF\portal\system\cm
look correct, and also the file under portalapps/com.sap.portal.km.application (or something).
When I went into KM configuration in the portal, I noticed there were no JDBC connection pools, and I therefore created two as described in http://help.sap.com/saphelp_ep60sp2/helpdata/en/eb/d10ef2b6a311d5993900508b6b8b11/content.htm
But that is something which the installer should have done for me. (and still the connection pools won't start)
The main error message I get at startup is the following:

    I appreciate any help !
PS sorry for the unstructured post, but I am hungry and want to go home now.

The files under the SAPPRT share had somehow failed (some where there, but a lot of the important ones where missing).
I found out that these files were in .configarchive files in the par files to be deployed, and manually unpacked them using these two commands
    $ for file in `ls -1 .par` ; do unzip $file ".configarchive" -d extracted >> logfile.txt ; done
    $ for file in `ls -1 *.configarchive` ; do unzip -o $file -d extracted >> logfile.txt ; done
Afterwards I had to make some tiny customization (search for %[a-zA-Z]% , especially for the connection pools.
Then a restart, and most of it seems to work (the system will not live much longer so that is acceptable)

  • Connection tot database fails

Can anybody please tell me why my program wo'nt connect to the database I specified (Start, Settings, Contrl Panel, Adminstr Tools, Data sources etc done beforehand)?
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.ResultSet;
    import java.sql.Statement;

         public static boolean loadOBDC()

              catch (Exception e)
                   System.out.println("Not connected tot data source.");
                   return false;
I keep getting my "Not connected to data source" message. Is ther some specific step I overlooked perhaps when I tried to set up the OBDC drivers?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Erna@mont

                   Class.forName("sun.jbdc.obdc.JbdcObdcDriver");this is your problem
    it has to be jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
    have fun...
hey don't forget to connect to the database
Connection... that only you load the class, you dont connect
i will give you a link in a minute

  • Remote connection to database fails

    Hi,
I İnstalled oracle 10g on my computer which is also my server on win XP .The problem is I cannot connect db from outside (WAN) while I could connect to it via LAN.
I used " http://jens:5500/em " to connect via LAN but it did not worked when i tried to connect outside. Then I tried to ping the computer it says request timed out. What can I do to handle this problem.
    Best,

    Ask your network administrator.
If you cannot communicate via ICMP, it is very likely that you will not be able to establish a TCP connection.
Without TCP, you cannot establish an Oracle connection.
Make sure that you have nor firewalls or proxy servers in between, or use Oracle Connection Manager on the proxy server.
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe

  • Failed to connect to database ONLY at the first time

Hi all, I installed Discoverer 10g version and I'm using an Application User to connect to the server where's the Db is installed.
Every time I try to connect to the server with Discoverer Viewer or Desktop I have a curious behavior....
ALWAYS but ONLY the first time I try to connect I have the following error :
    - Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password.
If I try to re-connect again the second time it works perfectly !!....so, I think, there's nothing related with my .dbc file.
I tried also to write the ':' at the end of the user name....but it didn't work.
Into the pref.txt file doesn't exist a parameter like DefaultUserTypeIsApps to set....
Anybody have had the same "strange" behavior and found a solution or workaround ?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

Thanks for your answers first of all !
At the end I found the solution looking at the Note:307167.1 on Metalink:
Discoverer Plus 10.1.2 Fails with ORA-1017 Error On First Login Attempt Then Works On Second Attempt
This note is very useful but into the solution the point 3 is not correct !
    3. Modify the servername parameter to indicate the fully qualified servername.domain
    Example:
An httpd.conf setting of: ServerName my_servername.mydomain.com should match a Discoverer Plus URL like http://my_servername.mydomain.com:7778/discoverer/plus
I had this problem both with Viewer and Plus...so instead to change the server name parameter (into the Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf file) with my complete URL (http://gnvdev.ote.gr:7779/discoverer/plus), I just write my right server name:
    Example
After the installation of the Discoverer 1og server, into the httpd.conf file it was written automatyically: ServerName gnvdev
I just modified in ServerName gnvdev.ote.gr and both Viewer and Plus started to work perfectly at the first time.
I hope that this hint will be useful for you and others in the Discoverer forum !!!
    Best Regards
    Alex

  • DBA studio: Error add/connect database "Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file"

I have Oracle (version 8.1.7) installed in my XP machine and when I try to (having chosen "Launch DBA Studio standalone") to open a connection I get:
    "Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file
    ERROR: 100 -- NLNV-NLNV String Format Error".
Also got this when I tried to manually add a database to a tree.
I can access the databases listed in my tnsnames.ora using SQL Plus with no error.
    This is my tnsnames.ora.
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\ora81\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    INST1_HTTP.xx.yy.GE.COM =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MyMachine3)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = SHARED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = buch3ora)
    (PRESENTATION = http://admin)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA.xx.yy.GE.COM =

    MyOra3.xx.yy.GE.COM =
    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MyMachine3)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =

    OORCL.xx.yy.GE.COM =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 3.4.55.66)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = oorcl))
Does anybody have any idea what is wrong? Thanks a lot. Changsong

Just found out this IS a string error in my Tnsname.ora. What i did is deleting all the entries in my tnsname.ora, and start adding each one back. I found one particular entry is responsible for the error. This is the old text
    serv32.xxx.ge.com =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = TCP)(PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = sevr32.xxy.ge.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = atmo32))
just looking by itself I can't see anything wrong. I just formatted it a little, making it looked like the other one that is working
    serv32.xxx.ge.com =(DESCRIPTION =
         (ADDRESS_LIST =
         (ADDRESS =
         (COMMUNITY = TCP)
         (PROTOCOL = TCP)
         (HOST = sevr32.xxy.ge.com)
         (PORT = 1521)))
         (CONNECT_DATA=
         (SID = atmo32)))
and now it works fine. I Really can't tell the difference, except that some words were moved to the other line. What puzzled me is that the same old tnsname.ora worked in almost all the other circumstances, like sql plus, and other database enginee. But it is just not good enough for dba studio?
I admit I probably should have used the network utility to add a connection to avoid this type of format error.
Anyhow, I'm glad it is solved. by the way, the symjct.dll mentioned in the previous post should be symcjit.dll. I guess he mispelled the name. I renamed it to symcjit_old.dll and now the java error was gone. So that is another gain from this post. Thanks Joel for all the information.

It would appear that your archive location is full. If it is full, then try to get some more free space there by either deleting the old archives or specifying a different location.
I don't see any mention of a flash recovery area in the log message, but you may also want to confirm that you have reached your space allocated to the FRA.

  • FCS DB backup failed w/error: "couldn't connect to database "template1"

    Hi,
I am testing two different FCS systems (on two different machines, the same config).
I wanted to backup FCS on one machine manually and it was not possible. I tried to do the same on the second machine and it was also not possible. I checked logs for automatic backup on both machines and everything worked until 22nd of April.
I am not sure if I did download some update, but I am sure I didn't change anything on both machines nor FCS settings.
I got this error message when I tried to backup:
*Backup failed: pg_dumpall exited with code 1.*
    *Checking for other backup processes...*
*Starting database backup to path '/Volumes/ProxyA/FCSBackups/Final Cut Server DB Backup on fcserver-1 at 2009-04-23 0000.zip'...*
*pg_dumpall: could not connect to database "template1": could not connect to server: Connection refused*
*Is the server running locally and accepting*
*connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5433"?*
Both systems work normally. I "just" can't backup the DB.
    What happened ?
    Thank you.

    Hi Sam,
Sometimes it is only because you have not set the environment correctly (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID).
    Is your TNSNAMES.ORA correct?
If you do a "ps -ef |grep oracle" you should get a list of processes. Make sure you see PMON and SMON processes as well as the LSNR processes.
If you don't see the LSNR processes start the listener.
If this don't help try to start the DB manually and check with tsnping, otherwise come back again with mor info.
    regards
    Wolfgang

  • Failed to connect to database

Several days ago, I created a workbook with 5 worksheets in Discoverer Plus 9.02 against a 10g database. Everything worked fine until today when I tried to re-saved the workbook into the database. I saw the error message that said "Failed to connect to database". When I hit the OK button in the error message dialog box, my sessions were terminated. Again, the error happened whenever I tried to re-save the workbook into the DB. I didn't see such error before.

    Hi Andy,
We are having a similar issue. We recently upgraded from 4.1.48 to 10.1.2.48.18. We are using Plus/Viewer. Imported workbook has several worksheets. Query runs but then receive an error stating 'Contact with the server has been lost...' I set the row retrievel to 20 rows but still get this error message.
Have you found a resolution to this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Barbara

  • OEM Grid "Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-03135

    Hello all,
Did anyone know why we get the error in the OEM grid:
