TP I Series 1721 2627-721Boot & cmos problem

I am trying to repair a TP I Series 1721 2627-721(P11 300 /192MB /20GB HD) that will not fully boot on most occasions. It will boot but only after several restarts while pressing the F12 key. When it does the cmos resets to default settings and the system clock reverts to 1/1/1988. I get error messages 0251 (Time and Date error) and 0271 (Default configuration set) as well as a red message stating " save to disk file not found/ save to disk feature is disabled/ run phdisk for info. file: create new. partition: consult manual". If I enter cmos and correct everything the machine boots up perfectly to Windows XP Home SP3. All devices work properly as well. When it shuts down it reverts back to the problem. I replaced the 3volt lithium battery but there was no change. The main battery is dead. I thought possibly flashing the bios to the current one may help. Is there a way to do this with a dead main battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

miradiem, welcome to the forum,
just replace the CMOS (Backup Battery), how to instructions can be found in the Hardware Maintainance Manual. Replacing it will stop it producing the error messages.

  • Clear CMOS Problem

I have the Neo 2 Plat
I cleared the cmos the way the directions said by moving the jumper to slots 2-3 when the comp was off. Then I moved the jumper to 1-2 turned the comp back on and got the following error.
    CMOS Checksum error-defaults loaded

That's actually normal.  Just press the key to enter setup.  Basically what that message is telling you that the default settings have been loaded.

  • CMOS PROBLEM

Just want to know how to enter cmos in Ultra 10?
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    Hi ,
The equivalent of cmos in Sun machines is e-prom. You can set various parameters of the prom and the nvram from the Open Boot Prompt(OBP).
When the machine starts to boot and after it does the memory check if you press the keys "stop" and "a" simultaneously, it breaks the booting process and comes to the OBP prompt. It looks like:
    ok >
You can set the different parameters here. To see the list of different parameters and their values use the following command:
    ok >printenv
To have more info. on this please refer the OBP reference manual at http://docs.sun.com
    Hope that helps
    Regards

  • [SIS Series] 649 neo-v ide 2 problem

I have problem. I cant find anything on ide 2 i have tried everything. What shell i do??????

The problem is really simple, the motherboard can not detect both my DVD:s at the same time. If it could be that simple to solve, but no.
The motherboard is a Neo-V Sis 649. I have 2 DVD:s, 1 NEC 3540 and one Samsung SH-W162. (Both are DVD:writers) My OS is XP Proffessional. The graphics adapter is a Gforce N6600 PCI-Expess.  I purchased a computer (not assemled) and tried to get things to work. At first, I connected the HD on the primary IDE (at the outer connector on the IDE cable, I have never moved it since - this must at least be correct) The HD is strapped as CS. I connected a DVD on the inner connector on the same cable and the other DVD on the outer connector on the secondary bus. I created a C: partition on the HD (not the whole HD space). Then i installed the OS. At first things seemed to work. After the OS was installed I created more patrtitions on the HD and then the problems started. One thing I am not absolutley sure of is if both DVD:s did detect at that time, sorry I don't remember that.
When I had created more partitions i discovered that only one DVD appeared in the system. The BIOS could not detect it either, because of that I don't think that the DVD was detected from the start. (It cannot be a OS problem) It was the DVD on the inner connector (on the primary bus) that was detected. I have tried to put both DVD:s on the secondary bus, I have swiched places and both DVD:s can be detected, just not at the same time. That rule out any malfunction with the DVD:s according to me. I have strapped the DVD:s as CS, Master, Slave in all combinations and in all posistions but only one DVD detects. I have change IDE cables, I have flashed BIOS to v 3.1, CMOS reset, but no difference. I have checked in BIOS so both IDE channels are enabled and they are. The problem is still there, the motherboard seems not to detect anything on the secondary bus but the primary bus seems to work allright. "OK - it must be the motherboard then..." -  it was brand new but it is of course possible that it is broken the same. After a contact with the shop where I bought it, I got a new board. But no, the same problem was there - no difference at all.
I think I tried everything, I dont know what to do next - If you could help me I would be eternelly grateful!
If you want some more specifications, just let me know.

  • MSI 6590 K4-Ultra CMOS Problem.

    Hello,
I have a problem with the MSI 6590 Motherboard, There is a problem with the CMOS Jumper.  If it is set to 1-2 the board will now power on.  There isno power going to the board.  If the CMOS Jumper is set to 2-3 the board will get power.  Has anyone had this problem, and if so how did you fix this problem, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance...

    I see.
My board also says 1-2 to keep and 2-3 to reset.
When its on 2-3, and you change a setting in the BIOS, does it remain?
To test this you must turn the PC off and back on.
If it does then you could have made a mistake with the pin numbers.
    It is possible
Is something shorting?, try taking the board out and put in back in.

  • CMOS problems with overclocking

Hi ya all, I originally posted this in the mobo section, but I am not sure if it was the right place so I will see if anyone here can help
I am about to embark on an overclocking exercise (hehe, first try) but I have snag! The adjustment for the CPU ratio does not appear on the CMOS settings. The mobo's destruction manual shows it as being available tho.
Is it because I have a P4 3.06 533 fsb cpu and it cant be changed? Or is there another solution.
I want to lift the speed of the CPU to lift the DDR speed back to 400 because, as I understand it from previous posts, the ram would currently be underclocking. The other reason is I am a speed junkie, why run at 3.06 if I can go at 3.6? Hehe.
The other glitch I have, is I cant change the voltage settings for either the CPU, the ram or the graphics card. Are these physical changes that must be made or is it possible to do from the Cmos. The indicators in cmos are not selectable. I read an article about altering the resistance of resistors on a graphics card but I am reluctant to mess with it.
I'm grateful for any advice... Ta...Turtle

The CMOS for this board doesn't seem to allow it. The speed is shown "blued" out as it is auto detected. I haven't been able to find anywhere that I can disable the auto detection. The bus speed options can be set, however the only choices are 100, 133 (current) and 200. Since the CPU is 533 side bus, then 133 is about the only option to select ? (133 x 23 = 3.06 - 133 x 4 ~ 533).
Is there any other way of changing things to acheive an overclock situation? Is there anyone else out there with a 651? I cant be the only idiot that has bought one - or am I?  X-

  • Possible CMOS Problem on Tecra 9000?

    Hi,
I have a Tecra 9000 that thus far has been superb. However, in the last couple of days when it boots from cold, I see a message which says "Bad Checksum (ROM), and asking mew to press the F1 key to enter Setup. I do, then press End and Y and the machine then boots fine into XP. Time and date are fine. I have tried flashing the BIOS but I already have the latest version and so it won't let me do it.
Does anyone have any ideas? Whilst its not stopping me working, it is irritating!
    Many thanks,
    Greg Thomas

    Hi ,
Before taking your laptop to an ASP , you can try to leave the computer plugged to the mains adapter for 24 hours ( the computer needs to be on while doing so ) , this will help you to charge the CMOS battery , if not then you can take it to an ASP
    Cheers

  • Thinkpad t61p series....screen replacement problems

I replaced my screen and it function properly. After I did a function check I turn my computer off and then turned it back on and it just stop workin. The computer does not turn on at all.Did I mess up my battery or something. Has this happend to anyone before?????

    You could have shorten something.
Try to remove the battery and start again. But before remove battery, press power button fpor 40 seconds and try to start the machine without the battery in the machine. If that doesn't work ask Lenovo to help you. Self replacement isn't covered by warranty tho.

  • [nVidia Series] P4N Diamond (Nforce4 Intel Edition) Problems

I hope some of you have the P4N Diamond motherboard.  I recently picked this up at $250 from Newegg.  Quick ship.  I've never been more depressed about a new flagship product.  Maybe you can help.
It shipped with bios 1.00 dated 04/26/05.  I'm using it with a 530J, X700 Pro, Promise FasTrack sx4000lite RAID5 setup, and PDP PC2-5600+XBLK (2x512 dual channel kit).
With the 1.00 bios, I could not make any adjustments to DDR2 speed or to voltages for DDR2 or CPU.
I asked MSI for help.  I got a 1.10 bios revision (apparently beta).
With the 1.10 bios, I could now adjust the voltages, but my DDR2 speed is still locked in the 800FSB/533DDR2 ratio.  The only way I can change the memory speeds is to change the FSB (QDR) speed and the DDR2 speed changes in that ratio (as if it is set to "linked" in the bios).  This only works when it is set to "manual" for speed control.  If it's set to auto, I can't change anything.  If it's set to linked, I can change the FSB (but not DDR2 although I can see it).  I can select DDR2, but if I press +/- to change the values while in manual mode, the screen just flashes and no values change.
I'm pretty upset, because hardwarezone received a test product directly from MSI and they verify their board WILL INDEED allow for independent FSB and Memory settings.  They have not yet confirmed the BIOS revision they were sent.  The *only* reason I bought this board was to take advantage of the incredibly overclockable DDR2 memory I've purchased (rated to 710mhz@4-3-3-12-1) and because it's the first board I've ever seen advertised to set fsb and memory clock speeds completely independently.  MSI even claims they hit 910/933mhz with this board in testing with Corsair memory (which my PDP memory outperforms on all other reviews, ie tomshardware roundup).
It gets worse.  Newegg apparently isn't getting any RMA support from MSI, as they've set a policy of *returned for exchange of same make/model only* on this product and will not give me a refund (even with a restocking fee).  So, I'm holding a $250 motherboard that is effectively no better than the $100 Asus P5GDC Deluxe I replaced with it (I don't plan to SLI in the immediate future, but somehow I don't expect that to work as advertised either since hardwarezone didn't bother to test it).
All I've heard from MSI fanboys is how great MSI is and how overpriced Abit and Asus are.. so I decided to give MSI a try (the first time I've done that since the days of the first athlon boards they made).
Tell me I've not been fooled by marketting lies into buying a board that does not offer the functionality it's reported to have.  Someone has to have this working... please help me.
Also, I'd be at the diamond member forums, except.. GUESS WHAT!?  The diamond membership card included with the P4N Diamond doesn't work there. :(  Boo.
Newegg and MSI have thus far hung me out to dry.  Maybe you guys can help me.

Thanks for the replies.  I've already tried everything mentioned.  I absolutely cannot change the DDR2 speed at all.  The only way to get the value in the DDR2 speed field to change is by setting the overclock method to manual and changing the FSB(QDR) speed, which updates the DDR2 speed field automatically in the 800:533 ratio.
Am I really expected to be patient when review sites receive cherry picked goods to review that have significantly more functionality than the consumer board I purchased, which is effectively lying to consumers (like myself) to get the $240 price of the board?  I'm not angry with anyone here, of course.  I'm just trying to verify that the problems I'm experiencing are affecting other non-review site owners of the board, so I'll know wether or not I ever want to trust an MSI review again.

  • [915 Series] MSI 915P 7058 Power On Problems

    We have 11 identical computers.
    MSI 915P 3.0 GHz P4 530J
    1GB DDR2 400 (2x512)
    160 GB Seagate SATA
    nVidia 6600 PCX 128 MB
    Antec case w/ 350W PS
The PS is only a has a 20 pin ATX plug where the board accepts 20 or 24.
    BIOS versions 1.6 - 1.8(latest version)
    Latest chipset driver also.
We have been getting feedback from the users that when booting, especially in the morning, they fail.  By this I mean the fans start, the power led is on and the hd led is on for a while.  But there is no video, the boot sequence never happens, and the os does not load.  To fix the problem, usually holding the power switch for >4sec, and then powering the computer on again works.    The reset also works to get past the failure.  Pushing the power button for <4 sec does not work.
We have tried the latest versions of the BIOS, no luck.  We are currently collecting the 4 led POST message from the back of the computer each time there is a problem.
I checked for the USB open channel problem.  The 10 pin connectors for the front and rear usb do not have the 10th pin grounded which has caused usb problems.
All other connections look OK.  The only other alert is that the power supply is the 20 pin and the mobo support 20 or 24.  Still it is an Antec 350W PS with 21A at +12V.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks-
    onesquin

A user is going to be gone tomorrow and we are going to try an antec 450W PSU in one of the machines.  That was our next step too.  I was hoping for something else as this fix is costly and time consuming.
We also tested the the gray wire on the power supply to make sure that it was always returning +5V.  We were able to produce the failure and the gray was at +5V.  We then grounded it and the computer would not start.
Maybe we just need a bigger PSU, but the manual only calls for a 350W, 18A on +12V.
Sorry for the double post... Composed the original message over 2 days and could not find it.  Then it was there after my second post.
    Thanks-
    scott

  • [845 Series] mb msi 848p neo-v problems with sound card

Since I've bought my new MB, I'm experiancing some problems with my sound card. WinAmp and MusicMatch Jukebox ( any version) does not support 5.1 sound system, but playing in stereo system. The soundcard AC97 is OK, cause Winows Media Player is working properly.Does anyone had such problem and solved it?
I must say that I've already used MSI MB, and all APPs worked properly with the same sound card. The difference is that my ex MB was based on old Intel processors, but not Presscot based as this one.

Have you installed the latest driver to
    the Realtec soundchip(ALC 655)?

  • [945 Series] p.o.s.t. Problems

I am having trouble trying to get a MSI 945G Neo-F to boot up to the POST screen.  I have tried new memory and power supply so far.  Current specs are listed below.  The power supply i have tested is a CoolerMaster 380watt +12v @ 16a .... the mem i have tested is OCZ DDR2-667 and it is currently working in another machine.  When I put the 667 in it actually gets a screen but freezes with everything garbled on the screen and i can do nothing after that.  I have 2 of these machines with the same specs and same problem.  As mentioned in another post about the 4pin and 8pin cpu power connectors .. i do not have the 8 pin adaptor yet.  If anyone has had similar trouble posting 945 chipsets .... any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK so i have finally got the board to boot.  It has the original cpu P4 630.... I had to change ram OCZ performance DDR2 667 and i had to use a video card because no matter what i did it would freeze if i used onboard video during the POST process.  Does anyone know why MSI would make a board with onboard video that doesnt boot when you use the onboard video?
So now i have to buy new ram and a video card.  That kind of defeats the purpose on onboard video.

  • Java installer in Windows Vista: error 1721

    Hi,
I cant install java SE in Windows Vista. I get always this error:
error 1721. There is a probleme with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Anyone knows how I can solve it? I tryed with other java versions but I get the same error.
    Thanks in advance.

If all else fails, your Vista could just be screwy.
If you're willing to go that far, and you've exhausted all other options, you could try reformatting and reinstalling Vista. (Or even XP, since it's way more stable. :D)
At any rate, this doesn't seem to be the file's problem, as plenty of people have gotten it working.
Have you installed any ... "distasteful" software on your computer, or tweaked stuff like a hardcore techie? Because it's quite easy to screw with Windows. :)
