TP YOGA 12: Fit mSATA in M.2 slot w/adapter

I wonder if anybody has experience on fitting an mSATA SSD into the M.2 slot with an adapter, or if you could point me towards more information on the subject?
I upgraded from an X220T to the 2015 YOGA 12 and was left with an mSATA SSD. It's 256GB which is why I find it a good idea to try an accommodate it inside the YOGA instead of going through the hassle of selling it first and then ordering a compatible M.2 SSD drive.
All info is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
My guess is this won't work, since mSATA cards are considerably wider than m.2 - never mind any signal compatibility issues.   I did find one example of an adapter, but I don't know how you'd fit it in your laptop.  Or if it works... Links below.

  • Yoga 2 did not detect a properly installed network adapter

Woke up this morning, turned my yoga 2 on, no WiFi.  So I used the troublsheeter and it told me there was no properly installed network adapter.  Does that mean my wifi card is dead?  Anyone else have an issue like this and find a solution (besides replacing a dead card?)
    I did:
    1) reinstalle drivers via usb from another machine
    2) used a system restore point from a few days ago
    Neither action had any effect.

Well I just set it to airplane mode and while I had no wifi it never told me that there was no network adapter cofigured.
Also, when you set it to airplane mode the wifi signal icon changes from bars to an airplane.
I think the adapter must have stopped working and then.. started working again.  I can't figure out what else it could be.

  • Why won't snow leopard disc fit in old Mac Pro slot?

I have an old Mac Pro.  Still running 10.5.8 and trying to take the next step to Snow Leopard (10.6).  Just ordered the disc from Apple but the disc won't fit in the plastic tray of the tower!  Any thoughts ... other than ask Santa for a new computer for Christmas?

Grant, thank you so much for the quick reply.  Yes, you're right, the tower is heavy as sin!  Our more recent computers out west are iMacs which are much easier for us to deal with.  We do have the tower upright.  Bill just moved it here to our vacation house for the winter.  Is it possible [don't underestimate him] that he could have inadvertantly opened the tower DVD slot and a decidedly important part fell out during the disconnect in B'ham?  The discs don't seat themselves.  It's like they're too large by just a smidge and won't sit level in the depression.  As I close the tray the top of the opening scrapes the disc off.  It won't let it go inside so I can begin the struggle with the install itself.

  • Yoga 2 Spotify stuttering through Philips Bluetooth Hi-Fi Adapter

I recently purchased a Philips Bluetooth Hi-fi adapter and have noticed that Spotify stutters periodically when connected. This doesn't happen when it's playing directly on the tablet.
I have a feeling that it only happens when the screen display is off as I have tested different sleep settings. I have turned off power manager but no difference. I can play spotify using the adapter through my phone and no stuttering at all with screen on or off so don't think it's an issue with the adapter.
Can anyone else confirm the behaviour.

Yes, the same here. I had to give up using Spotify on Yoga 2 10" tablet and use Nexus 7 (2012). No problems with the Nexus.
Shame as the battery life and built in stand should have made the Yoga good for media streaming.

  • Mini DVI to VGA cable won't fit.  Too big for slot on 12 PowerBook G4

Are there more than one type of cable?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2369 shows only one kind of mini-DVI port for the 12" Powerbook.  Sounds like you got something that is not an mini-DVI port based cable.  Mini-VGA cables look very similar, and can be misidentified.  What are you connecting to from the Powerbook G4?  Make, model # is important.  Often DVI-HDMI adapters are better than DVI to VGA if there is an option.  Cause DVI-VGA you need a proper digital/analog converter in the cable in question.

  • ENVY Touchsmart 15 J000 Series (J001TX) Optional mSATA slot for installing Windows?

    I wanted to ask
    1. whether we can install a mSATA drive of 60-120 GB in the mSATA slot and use it as the place to install Windows? Would it be like having a dual hard disc setup if windows is installed on the mSATA and the 5400 rpm HDD is formatted? I know this might affect the warranty but still i am curious.
    2. Also is any particular mSATA drive models whitelisted/blacklisted by HP?
    3. When we install a mSATA drive in the bay, does it affect the max RAM which we can use?
    4. What is the size of the mSATA drive that would fit in the slot available?
    5. Is the interface of the mSATA slot SATA II or SATA III?

    Hi,
Q1: Yes you can install Windows on a mSATA module on this laptop..
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/729085-envy-15t-j000-msata-ssd-hdd-fresh-install-msata-b...
I recommend to remove the hard drive if the how to doesn't say that. A mSATA module is compatible so I don't think it will affect the warranty.
Q2: Hard to answer this one but some guys already confirmed that Samsung PM830 256GB drives work with this series. Some other models also work, just search this forum..
Q3: The mSATA can be used as cache or a boot drive. If it's going to be used as cache it won't work with 12GB or more according to the manual for the laptop series. If it's going to be used as a boot drive there shouldn't be any limitation so you may use the max 16GB or so.
Q4: mSATA is a standard/interface/format so any mSATA SSD should fit the slot, the capacity doesn't matter.
Q5: As I said mSATA is an interface (slot), SATA II or III (speed) is a matter of the chipset on the motherboard. It's the same case like the typical SATA connection. The connectors and slots are the same but the speed is based by the chipset..

  • Does (or Will) T410s support mSATA?

Just got a Intel 310 SSD from newegg and tried it on my T410s. It uses mSATA port which is the same as mini-PCIe and fits in the place for the wireless WAN card. However, my T410s doesn't recognize it., so I guess the computer does not support mSATA for now.
It looks like the new T420 series will get mSATA support. I hope Lenovo engineers will add mSATA support to T410 series (say, by updating the BIOS). The 1.8inch HDD is really a big limitaion for T410s and I need the mSATA port for another hard drive.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No. Actually, though it does physically fit, mSATA != mPCI-E.
You're going to have to send it back and wait for the SuperTalent CoreStore MV and a hacked BIOS with whitelist removed to use it.
That SSD is native mPCI-E and not mSATA so it will work in the T410s, and you need a hacked BIOS to use it because ThinkPads don't like hardware that doesn't come with them, a really dumb limitation that most business laptops have. Also, that SSD blows the Intel 310 out of the water in terms of speed.
Or better yet, go buy an 80 GB 1.8" SandForce SSD with the $190 that you'll get back. Or go get the UltraBay hard drive adapter III so that you can use another hard drive in place of the DVD drive (I can't remember if it will fit in the T410s though, could someone else check?).

  • Thinkpad 256GB Solid State Drive 43N3417 won't fit into Drive Bay Adapter 43N3412

According to Document ID  PD010634, http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-73170 and Document ID  PD013418, http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73173 it should fit with the 1.8" to 2.5" converter.
When I try to fit the drive into the Drive Bay Adapter, it won't fit.  It is like the plastic housing is just a little too big.  The adapted drive end appears to be correct, but the housing is just a little too big.  I don't want to force it and break something.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks so much.

  • New PC card doesn't fit satelite 1905-S301

I just ordered a new 4 x usb pc card to substitute for the two broken usb ports on the back.  The problem is that the new card will not fit into the pc card slot.  I use a netgear wireless pc card and it seems to have larger pin holes than the new usb pc card.  The satelite ahs 2 type II pc card slots and the new card is type II.  Did the pin sizes change in last 9 years, or did they manufacture the new card wrong?
I got the new card from newegg.com laptop acessories -> (guided search on left side) laptop add-on cards -> 4 x usb card -> look for koutech IO pcmcia card. I'm sending this one back.

    x220 i assume?
a wee bit odd that it looks as though the contact points are touching each other, half of them. if you have a thin card, you could try to slot it in and make sure they can separate. tbh, it looks as though a card was forced in causing the contacts to deform. hopefully the card trick works. good luck!

  • S430 mSATA SSD and Dual Boot

Yesterday my Lenovo Thinkpad S430 arrived, I have some questions concerning dual booting Linux and Win 8 from the mSATA. I have a Crucial m4 128Gb with the current firmware 07MH which I want to want to install instead of the 16Gb mSATA SSD which is currently used for caching.
For that I want to do a clean Win 8 install (I got the ISO and a valid serial) and presumably an current Ubuntu. Unfortunately I have no experience with UEFI and Secure Boot and that stuff. Is there anything I need to do, are there any problems with what I want to do?
The current UEFI BIOS on my S430 is the GAET71WW (2.07), should I upgrade it to the current 2.54?
Is there anything else I should know?
    Regards and thank you,
    meruah

If I'm reading Hemanth Kumar's post correctly, 16GB is the largest mSATA drive provided by and supported by Lenovo for use as a cache.
I'd expect that you can use most any capacity mSATA drive in that slot for a primary OS drive.  It is frequently done with Lenovo laptops to install a large mSATA SSD - as I did in my T420, 256GB - and keep the HDD as a data drive.
That said, I don't have specific experience with your machine.  It would be great if someone with specific experience would join the conversation.  Otherwise, I can only say it's probably OK.

  • MSATA and M.2 SSDs

With the increase in motherboards and systems supporting mini-SATA (mSATA) and M.2 standards for SSDs, and increased demand from them being included in more than just portable devices, some frequent problems have been seen by Crucial support, mostly related to basic compatibility.

Dom from The CRU has documented his cloning experience with an mSATA drive below. While they are not sold by Crucial directly at this time, 2.5" converters are available supporting both form factors if needed for use in a 2.5" bay or over USB.
mSATA or M.2 to SATA Adapter
Although mSATA and M.2 connectors are physically different to standard SATA ones, they still use the same SATA standard so you can convert them using a simple adapter.
I bought this mSATA to SATA adapter for around £12 in the UK (you will likely find a cheaper option in the US). I was able to use this to connect the mSATA drive to the SATA to USB cable provided with the cloning kit.
Any other type of caddy or USB adapter that allows you to connect the mSATA or M.2 drive via USB while cloning should be fine for this too.
mSATA or M.2 to SATA Adapter
Place the SSD into the adapter
Push it down so it clips into place
Attach the adapter to the USB to SATA cable
You can now attach the cable to a USB slot and continue through the cloning process
    Troubleshooting
SSD not being picked up by cloning software
Check within Windows that the drive is picked up
Double check the connection to the adapter as well as the SATA to USB cable
    Try a different USB port
    USB disconnects during cloning
Check the Advanced Settings of your Power Options
Under USB settings, ensure USB selective suspend setting is disabed
You can enable this again after the clone is complete
Laptop/netbook doesn’t have a CD drive for cloning software
Some cloning software can run within Windows and does not require a CD
One I've tried is EZ Gig by Apricorn. Please note you will need to use an Apricorn USB to SATA cable for this software to work

  • Graphics card wont fit??

I have an HP Media center PC m7334n with ATI radeon xpress 200
The graphics card I tried to install was MSI ATI Radeon HD 4350 512mb
But it seems to not fit because of the gold things that block it on the card..
Could i perhaps take something apart to make it fit?

You have to install the MSI Radeon HD4350 video card in the black  PCIe x16 slot.
It will not fit in the white PCI slots.
You will need to move the plastic tab towards the memory slots as you install the card. That will allow the card to completely enter the slot. Otherwise it just will not go in.
    Best regards,
    erico
