But if you want to disable it, Coskan had published a small post mentioning an undocumented parameter(which means you must think twice before using it) to disable it- disablehealth_check* . You may want to read the complete post here,

  • How to set trace on in Oracle 8.1.7

    Hi ,
is it possible to set the trace on in Oracle 8.1.7 from PL/SQL Developer
i tried set autotrace traceolny timing on , --> invalid options
set autotrace on --> invalid option
alter session set sql_trace on --> ok
how do i actually get the statistics on the no of physical reads , disk reads etc ?
    pls advise
    tks & rdgs

AUTOTRACE is a SQL*Plus facility, and therefore not available in PL/SQL Developer.
The PL/SQL Developer SQL Window does have a "Statistics" tab which contains some of the information you are after (to see this tab, I think you have to enable "Automatic statistics" in your Preferences (Tools->Preferences->Oracle->Options); you'll also need select privileges on the appropriate v$ views).
If you "alter session set sql_trace on", this creates a trace file on the server which can be analyzed using the tkprof utility.

    You can also do :
SELECT * FROM V$DIAG_INFO;to see informations about diagnostic locations of that instance.

I have question on  trace enabling of Oracle database .
Suppose I have enabled a trace event  "alter system set events '1031 trace name errorstack level 3';"
Qusetion-1 : - Will this trace event able to create a trace file in udump dest for the users who are already logged in before the trace event  enabled .,
Meaning - Suppose I am enabling the trace event (ex-1031) on 9 AM , will this event able to create a trace file for the users
who have logged in at 7AM and at 9:30 AM ora-1031 will raise from their session.
Question -2 - After enabling the trace on instance/system level ,how can i check the enabled event ...
Meaning - Is there any query/command to check the above trace level (1031) is enabled or not ....

    1.  Try it.

  • 11g Instant Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20 vs Full Client 2.111.6.0

My .NET app was developed on a computer where 11g Instant Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20 was installed. I copied the application code to another computer where the 11g Full Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.0 was installed. When I tried to run it I get the following error:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.TypeIntializationException' occured in System.dll
The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection' threw and exception
My .NET app requires the use of sqlldr which does not come with 11g Instant Client so I'm trying to get it to run on another computer with the 11g Full Client which includes sqlldr.
The appilcation was built referencing the Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20 on the computer with 11g Instant Client but the app needs to run on a computer where sqlldr is installed which is on another computer with 11g Full Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.0.
Am I going to have to install the 11g Full Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.0 on the development computer to get the app to work or what?

    Thanks Mark
The 2.111.6.20 version is already on our production server so I can't replace it. The app that uses sqllder ony runs two weeks out of a year so I'm thinking that I can set up another dev computer(dev2) with the full client and run the app from there. I may try installing both clients but I'm not sure how that will work out yet. I'm still looking into deploying 2.111.6.20 from dev to dev2 like the option 1 you suggested but coping the file from the GAC of dev to dev2 is more involved than I expected. I'm also trying to get the development tools VS2008 installed on dev2 to try option 2 as you suggested.
    Configuration
    dev 11g Instant Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20
    prod 11g Instant Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20
    dev2 11g Full Client Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.0
    Thank you,
    Keith

System State dumped to trace file e:\oracle\admin\udump\rbidev_ora_2864.trc
What should i do to resolve this issue?
    Database : 10.2.0.2.0
OS version : Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Server Service Pack 2 ( 32-bit)

    Ankit,
These errors come from multiple reasons. Most of them areeither due to some bugs which are in Oracle code. Now I am sure you would agree that Oraclewont publish the details of the code so that dbas can do something about the errors. Moreover, just because Oracle wants dbas to work upon these errors and troubleshoot them, oracle has made lookup tools in Metalink specifically so that dbas can look there and work upon these errors.
You are sayig that Oracle has not published error information. There is so much about working of Oracle which we don't know and chances are very less that will ever come to know.
Just my 2 cents to make the point clear.

  • Avoid send stack trace to client

I understand for system error, I should throw EJBException to notify EJB container and EJB Container (EJB 3) in turn throw EJBException to client.
I don't want client know what cause the exception, in another word, I don't want stack trace send to client, it will be beeter just send a string like "process failed" to client.
    I did
    throw EJBException("process failed" );
but still client got all of stack trace.
how do I avoid send stack trace to client?
    Thanks

    Hi John,
The exact contents of the exception are an implementation detail and not mandated by the spec.
From the spec perspective all that matters is the contract for what exception type the client should
code to. Some Java EE implementations include more detail in the exception object, some less.
It's certainly possible for an implementation to provide configuration that controls the level of detail
propagated in EJB exceptions, but I'm not aware of any such instances. We don't have any such
feature in Glassfish / Java EE SDK / SUN Java System Application Server.
