Tracing a number through iMessage

Hi there,
This is my last resort. I am praying that someone can help me here.
Background:
My iphone5  was stolen on Sunday. I don’t really care about losing the phone. What I do care about is one phone number that was in the phone. I received this phone number the night before and loaded it into my contacts. I also imessaged that contact later that night.
The next day my phone was stolen and has been deactivated.
My icloud had not backed up in that time and therefore the number did not get added to icloud.
Is there a way that apple can trace an imessage that was sent to a phone at 02:12am on 5th Apr 14 (Australian Eastern time) from my phone? I don’t want the message content. I only want the phone number it was sent to.
(Yes this is the number of a girl that I met out. Trust me she is worth the search!!)
I have tried numerous ways to get the number.
1.       I traced my old phone to an address registered on icloud just before it got deactivated. I approached the house offering money for the phone! They said they never had the phone. I can’t prove that they have it as icloud doesn’t appear to be that accurate and the location is outside the house (therefore potentially just in a passing car).
2.       I have scoured google, facebook and linkedin based on the limited knowledge I know but to no avail.
3.       I have contacted my netwrok provider in Australia (Telstra) asking for a phone bill, but they only show phone calls and SMS texts...not iMessages.
I believe this is my last hope. I do believe the technology is there. It has to be. I’m not looking for locations or message content. Just the number of the phone I was iMessaging at that time.
My fingers are crossed....

Thank you wjosten.
Can somebody from apple help me on this?
If my network provider (Telstra) are able to freely give me details of phone numbers I have text or rang through a bill, I'm hoping that apple can freely give me the phone number of somebody I have iMessaged (provided I give them security that I am who I say I am).
If the person I was texting had a Samsung phone I would have this data via the bill. I don't see how her having an iphone would suddenly make it a privacy issue.

I change phones and i am not getting regular txt messages because somehow the messages are still sending through imessage which i no longer have.... I deleted my phone number from the account though as per instructiions from the phone carrier and is still not working...Any help?

    Hello jn_andrade,
It sounds like you are no longer getting text messages becuase your Apple ID is still using your phone number for iMessage. I would use these steps to unlink your phone number from your account:
    Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
From: iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

  • How do I add a cell number to iMessage on iPad Air 2?

Wife bought me a iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi + Cellular and it's own unique phone # for Christmas.
She bought it through her Verizon account.
It arrived today via FedEx.  Opened it up.  Turned it on.  Did the initial set-up on it.
Problem is I accidently signed in using my Apple ID that I have for my iPhone.
After that, whenever I would get a text message on my iPhone it shows up on my iPad also...which I don't want.
I want to be able to use iMessage on the iPad and use it's own unique # that came with it.
So I did some reading and from what I found it sounds like you have to sign out of iMessage on the iPad and sign in with a "new" Apple ID that's attached to that new number.
That being said, I signed my iPhone's Apple ID out of my iPad on iCloud/FaceTime/iMessage.
Then I created a completely new Apple ID and assigned the new cellular # to that account on www.myappleID.com and saved it.
I then went back onto my iPad and signed into iCloud/FaceTime/iMessage with the new Apple ID that I'd created.
Now it only shows the email address associated with that Apple ID as the only 'Send & Receive' option...no phone number.
I then went back and confirmed that I'd saved the cell # change via myappleID.com, signed back out of Cloud/FaceTime/iMessage on the iPad and signed back in.
Still, not showing the cell # listed under 'Send & Receive' options for iMessage...and it's not showing me an option for adding the number either...at least that I can find.
So does anyone know how I can now add the Cellular Data Number that's already listed in General>About>Cellular Data Number to iMessage so that I can actually receive messages to that number that's assigned to the iPad?

The only way you can use a mobile number with iMessage on an iPad if it's associated with an Apple ID that is also associated with an iPhone. YO can then use the iPhone's mobile number. The mobile number on the iPad is for carrier billing purposes only. It cannot be used for messaging.

  • How do i delete the previous owners phone number on iMessage on my iPhone 5?

How do i delete the previous owners phone number from imessage in my iphone5?

You did NOT erase all content in the phone if the previous owner's phone number is still associated with iMessage. Erasing all content will put the phone in an as new state, requiring activation, which you can NOT do without a SIM card. If the original owner did not remove their iCloud account and they had find my iPhone turned on, you would not be able to activate it at all without the credentials for the original owners iCloud account.
Can you still contact whoever you got it from?
If so, have them go through this process on the phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
If not... you may have been scammed.

  • HT5538 How do I completely remove my old phone number from iMessage?

I haven't had service on my iPhone for over a year now, but a couple days ago I got a text through iMessage from someone thinking I am their friend "Mark". They're texting my old phone number and it is going to their friend Mark's phone (as he now has my old number) but some of them also go to me.
I've tried going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and the phone number is disabled (greyed out). I can uncheck the emails linked to my account but I am unable to uncheck the phone number.
Here's a screenshot (number blocked to protect the privacy of the person that now has it):
I tried following the instructions under "How to unlink a phone number" in this Apple support article but the phone number still didn't go away from the iMessage "Send & Receive" list even after I signed out of my Apple ID.
This seems like a bug because why in the world would texts normally still come to my phone sometimes (via iMessage) when someone texts my old phone number if I haven't even paid in over a year.
BTW, when I had service, my carrier was AT&T.

    1. Get hold of your old iPhone and switch iMessage off in Settings > Messages
    2. Un-register your old device: https://supportprofile.apple.com
    3. Change your current Apple ID password.
    4. Switch OFF your iMessage and switch back ON after a few minutes.

  • Block number in imessage by changing phone number?

Obviously I cannot block someone through imessage.  I blocked them from calling or texting me through Verizon.  BUT, if I change my mobile number, will that work?  Currently, in my settings, the only way I can be reached through imessage is my phone number.  So if I change that, will it work?  I know my phone number is still associated with my Apple ID so I am a little confused.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Depends on whether you are using the same iCloud account on the device, or if you are syncing Contacts via iTunes, if you are syncing both devices to the same computer.
When you block someone, no matter which application you "launch" the block from (Messages, Phone, FaceTime) you are blocking the Contact. So, any app that uses that contact will see it as a blocked contact and will block any incoming activity to that app from that contact.

  • My iPhone 5 will not send mms through iMessage, any help?

I have recently been abroad and since returning to the UK, my phone will not send pictures over iMessage, I never had this problem before travelling. I have my wifi switched on and I have checked my send and receive settings. I can receive picture messages through iMessages but cannot send them. The person I am sending them too has an iPhone and has their iMessage turned on, I have checked my updates and my phone does not need updating, I can not think of anything else it could be. I have also checked and I am able to send them through text just not iMessage. Any suggestions would be great!

Yes I have turned imessage off a number of times and that does not seem to he doing the trick, and it is not delivering them then I have to press on the photo and either chose try again or send as text message, I have had the setting on to not allow sending pictures as texts (so they can only send as imessage) since I got my phone in January and it has always worked until now, I have turned that off to allow me to send them as picture messages now but it's still not working over iMessage, I have also tried it using 3G and not wifi

If my phone service is disconnected, can I still use the number to iMessage? Under my setting in iMessages it only allows me to select my linked emails and the telephone number is there but grayed out and i can't seletect it ! It wont activate. I just recentely got AT&T.  When I had verizon before and my phone got disconnected it allowed me to still iMessage off my number.

If your phone service is disconnected, it's not your number any more.
If you "just got AT&T", how can it be disconnected?

  • My cousin isn't recieving my text messages. We never text through imessage because she is never connected to WIFI. Now, when I text her, it is sending through imessage but she isn't recieving them.

My cousin recently got an Ipad. Ever since then, when we text through our iphones, our thread is through imessage, and when I send her a text, it says delivered, but she isn't recieving them. She insists she has imessage turned off on both devices. She doesn't use imessage because she is never connected to wifi and doesn't want to use her data, so that is why we text through regular texting (green and white). I don't know if this has anything to do with her setting up her ipad, but my texts to her started sending through imessage only right after she set up the new device. My texts are being delivered somewhere because after I text her, it says "delivered"  I can also recieve texts from her, she just can't see mine. Again, she said imessage is not activated on either of her devices, so I have no idea what the problem is. She is able to text other people with iphones just fine. We both have an iphone 5S, and she just got a used ipad mini. PLEASE HELP!!

It is no wonder she is not receiving your messages if she has iMessage turned off in her iPad.
For her to receive iMessages on the iPad, she needs to turn iMessage ON in her iPad and then she needs to be connected to the internet in order to receive them.  This connection can go through WiFi or through cellular data if her iPad has this functionality, but those two requirements are a must.
    1. iMessages ON
    2. iPad connected to Wifi or cellular data.

  • How can i remove my phone number from imessage and just use email address ?

    Hi all
I've searched all the forums and still can't find an answer for what i need (what i think i need!)
I have an iphone without a data plan so whenever anybody who is registered with imessage sends me a message i will not
receive it until i am back on wifi.
What i want to achieve is to be able to receive sms messages from imessage users when i am not on wifi and then imessages when i am back on wifi.
My assumption is that if i can unlink my mobile number from iMessage and only have it associated with my email address that this should work, but i cannot seem to remove my phone number from imessage, in the settings > iMessage > send and receive it will allow me to un-tick the associated email addresses but my phone number is greyed out and will not allow me to untick.
On my home Mac i can go into messages app and deselect the phone number but not on the iphone.
One solution says to deregister my phone on https://supportprofile.apple.com/ which i have tried (i can't see how that would work anyhow as there is no phone number in that registration)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks, Andy

Regardless if using your cell phone number or your Apple ID email address, iMessage requires an internet connection via an available wi-fi network or via your carrier's cellular network. Without a data plan and no internet access with your carrier's cellular network, an iMessage addressed to your email address can be received only when your iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network no different when an iMessage is addressed to your cell phone number.
You cannot deselect or remove your cell phone number below you can be reached by iMessage at with iMessage on an activated iPhone. The iPhone's phone number is activated along with your Apple ID.

  • How do I change the phone number on imessage?

I just updated to ios 6 and the update for mountain lion. What i cant seem to do is change the phone number on imessage from my wifes to mine on my personal mac pro. How do i do that?

    Hi,
In the first Instance Messages allows you to Call from the Contacts list.
On the second hand iCloud will sync your Contacts to the iPhone.
If your My Card in the Contacts (Head and Shoulders iCon) then you  will not be calling your own iPhone or it will not be listed as the phone number in the iOS 6 and OS X 10.8.2 update changes.
