Track ends early and follows story end

I have 2 very similar tracks (slightly different versions of same video) with identical chapter markers. One plays all the way through just fine. The other plays through several chapters but when it gets to the end of one chapter it follows the end jump of that chapter's story, preventing the viewer from watching the entire video when that was what they selected.
What could be causing this?
I created chapter markers in FCP. Is it a problem with the next chapter marker? Is there some setting I'm ignorant of (this is my first DVDSP project with chapters)?

What's the difference between a story end jump and a story marker end jump?
The story end jump is where the story when completed in full goes to. The story marker end jump is where the story will jump to when the next marker after that marker with the end jump is reached. (Note that I have not played with controls this way in awhile, I use the way below. There may be some tricks to control navigation with the settings that I do not recall right now.)
Practically, at least for me, the easiest way is just make seperate stories and do not set Story Marker Jumps (though set the Menu commands) and if there is another combination of markers wanted, just make another story.
Assume I should set the story end jump to go back to my chapter menu but the story marker end jump in that one chapter being set was what cause the track to end at the end of that chapter?
Sounds like that is the issue, if you had the story marker end jump and it jumped when it hit the next marker

  • DVR starts and ends early and late

    When viewing my recorded shows on the DVR most all start about a minute early and end about a minute before showends.  Please tell me this can be corrected...

    The DVR is programmed to start one minute EARLY and stop two minutes after the scheduled time.  This is called 'soft padding'.  As far as the ending early, the networks will run a popular show late so that people ‘hang around’ and miss the start of other programs.  This is called "bridging".
    Early starts are how the DVR works.  If you are concerned with missing the end of a show because of this bridging, you could add the time at the end under "record options".

  • Downloaded a song from itunes and it ends almost 2 minutes early and skips to next track

    downloaded a song from itunes and it ends almost 2 minutes early and skips to next track. I deleted the song and redownloaded it from the purchased section on the itunes store three times and still have the same problem. What is the solution?

    Clear your web browser's cache, use Edit > Preferences > Advanced and tap the Reset cache button, delete the contents (if any) of ...\iTunes Media\Download, then try again.  If the problem persists contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history.

  • IPod classic ends tracks early and crashes

    Hello everyone, I appreciate this looks just like the other million and six forum posts about crashing iPods but my case is a bit different.
    I've had my iPod for since Christmas 2008 but as of the last few months it has developed a nasty habit. I use the iPod almost exclusively to listen to podcasts and the iPod frequently ends the podcast and moves to the next one. Sometimes when I they try to go back the iPod crashes to the grey Apple logo. It also sometimes crashes when a track ends by itself.
    Please help!

    *Skipping songs*
    The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
    You may like to try scanning the files with MP3 Validator which can find & fix some internal MP3 errors.
    Some users have also suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information can be a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
    Personally I've have found files for which these solutions don't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original files back onto the iPod.

  • Does track end jump trump chapter or story end jump?

    I have a DVD with 1 menu & 3 tracks. Tracks 1 & 2 each contain l short video (different audio or video formats) and track 3 contains 3 short videos which I have broken into 1 story w/3 chapters. On track 1, there is 1 chapter marker and I have set its end jump back to the menu. The end jump for the track itself is set to Track 2. Button 1 connection is set to the chapter marker. Ditto for track 2 except its end jump is set to track 3 while its one chapter marker end jump is set to menu 1. Button 2 is targeted to track 2, chapter 1. Track 3 has 3 chapters. It's end jump is set to menu 1. The chapters within the story are also set to menu 1 and it works the way I want it to. Button 6 is a PLAY ALL button targeted to track 1. When I select button 1, the video ends and continues on to track 2 instead of going back to menu 1;. When I select button 2, it also contiunues on (to track 3) instead of jumping back to menu 1. My goal was to be able to access each individual video and then jump back to the main menu. I tried adding stories to each of Track 1 & 2 and making the story end jump go back to he main menu but it seems the track end jump trumps both chapter & story end jumps. Anybody have any solutions to my problem? thanks.
    Steve

    Hi:
    You can do it using a script. Take the DVDSP User Manual and look for the topic Jumping to a Menu's Loop Point (Chapter 14 - Creating Scripts) and you'll find a detailed description of how to do it.

    Hope it helps!

  • Songs seem to end early or run into each other.

    First off, sorry if this, or anything similar has been asked or brought up before...
    Anyhow, I purchased a 20GB iPod Color about two and a half weeks ago, and after loading song file which were already on my computer, and from CD's to my iTunes Library, and therefore also to my iPod, I've noticed that then I play some tracks they seem to end abruptly, as in a few seconds early.
    I've checked the track times according to my iPod to the track times according to the albums themselves and both times match up, hence I don't understand why some songs seem to end early, even though the iPod display tells me the track length is the same.
    I've also noticed that with some songs the end of one song seems to blend in with the beginning of the next. I also don't understand why this occurs.
    When I play songs directly from my iTunes Library, in most instances this doesn't occur to the affected tracks in question [and when such tracks are played through Windows Media Player or from the CD itself it never occurs]. I've also deleted and reinstalled the tracks in hopes this would solve the problem but it hasn't.
    Any insight as to why either of these issues happen or how to solve them, would be greatly appreciated, for honestly it's unnerving me. Thanks.

    Dan, I see what you are trying to demonstrate but are you sure you have the example as you intended? In dbo.Test1, you're not making it to exec dbo.Test2. I think you're trying to have the error come from dbo.Test2, correct?
    My intention was to demonstrate that an error will occur, not necessarily where the error will happen.  I meant to select column b in dbo.Test1, in which case the same error occurs but in dbo.Test2.  Of course, the reason for the error is that
    the object name is resolved against the dbo.Test1 table instead of the intened dbo.Test1 table.
    The Books Online also states that when 2 temp tables exist with the same name,
    it is undefined which table the query is resolved against.  So the only way to protect yourself is with table variables or different temp table names.
    I ran the following under SQL 2008 R2 to illustrate the sort of strange behavior you might see if you don't follow this practice.
    CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.Test2
    AS
    CREATE TABLE #t(x INT);
    INSERT INTO #t VALUES (2);
    SELECT Test2Col = x FROM #t;
    GO
    CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.Test1
    AS
    CREATE TABLE #t(b INT);
    INSERT INTO #t VALUES (1);
    SELECT Test1Col = b FROM #t;
    EXEC dbo.Test2;
    GO
    --fails in dbo.Test2
    EXEC dbo.Test1;
    GO
    --dbo.Temp2 succeeds when run standalone
    EXEC dbo.Test2;
    GO
    --dbo.Temp1 now succeeds because the temp table created by last dbo.Test2 run hasn't yet been cleaned up
    EXEC dbo.Test1;
    GO
    --force recompilation on next execution
    DBCC FREEPROCCACHE;
    GO
    --fails in dbo.Test2 because the temp table created by last dbo.Test2 run has been dropped
    EXEC dbo.Test1;
    GO

  • Fairy Tale Story Ending!  iMac Related!

    I would like to share my story from this past Christmas.
    So I buy my daughter the Imac21.5 for Christmas. I'm on detail away from home for the past year so I wanted to get her something special, she's 16.
    So since i'm in Georgia and she is in NY i'll need to fly the Imac on the plane. I want to take no chances so I want to carry it on and keep that thing in my lap. The baggage lady says, since it is Christmas travel, it will have to go in a carry on. I go out and buy 3 pillows and tape them all to the monitor ensuring a safe trip. The baggage lady assures me that the baggage will be handled carefully, and nothing will happen to it.
    So I get on my plane leaving for my first leg of trip to Chicago. I get stranded there for 30 hours in the airport, meanwhile my daughter's Imac is enroute to Syracuse NY. Weather finally clears Chicago a day later and I get to Syracuse.
    I find my luggage (which arrived a day earlier) and immediatly check on my daughter's Imac. Wham! Smashed, glass top broken etc. I goto the baggage desk and show them, the twit says, "thats not my problem". I said, "oh yes it is". And she refuses to give me a claim form saying that it is not covered. She would not even give me a baggage claim form at all. I ask for her name, and she only gives me her first name, and refuses to give me her last name stating that she doesnt have to because company policy states she doesnt. I ask for a manager, and she states she is the one who deals with this stuff and its too bad too sad. Well, little does she know, I just happen to be a federal agent who takes photographs for a particular agency which needs not mentioned. So I take pictures right there of my stuff that is smashed (and the lady who denied me a claim form), and displaying that I indeed took serious pre-cautions to safeguard the computer. My bags had to be tossed around violently for damage to have occured.
    So here I am, having been stuck in Chicago and now my daughter's Christmas is ruined.
    Like the good dad, the moment I arrive in Syracuse, I take the computer to the Apple Store. They fixed the computer and I had it back 2 days after Christmas. So it ended with my daughter still getting her computer.
    Heres where it gets better. When I left the airport, I immediatly called customer support line for the airport and they assured me that the lady should have given me a claim form and that she will be disciplined. I was given a email to send my complaint to, and I sent a detailed write-up of the incident and the pictures to go along with it.
    They responded that the lady in question had been unprofessional and terminated. I also received a check in the mail to cover the cost of a new Imac plus 500.00 to cover any lost software.
    NICE!
    So, I'll be going to the Apple Store again to get yet another Imac. Btw, it cost me 130.00 to fix the other one!
    Score one for the good guys.....

    I usually avoid speaking to agents of your government like they have the plague! But a Mac guy could be a good guy (so no one tell me if the terrorists are using Macs) so I will make an exception.
    Good on you that you did not let that Grinch completely steal your Christmas. Good on your airline/airport for honoring your claim.
    Have a blast with your new Macs!

  • Songs ending early while listening from itunes match

    itunes match songs are ending early.  I have shuffled the tracks of a single album and the song is getting around 80-85% complete and then moving on to the next track.  Was wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior.   Iphone 4s using itunes match with a catalog song from a windows 7 computer last night.  The tracks are from an album in the apple store.

    Similar to the problem that I'm having.  I started a discussion here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16759669#16759669
    Are you having the problem on your iPod/iPhone or on your computer?
    I'm curious, if you delete the songs from the computer and re-download them from the cloud, do you have the same issues on the computer as yoru iPhone?

    I'm trying to burn an iMovie in iDVD and at the end of the whole burn process it says "Multiplexer Error" "there was an error during formatting".  How do I fix it so that it'll burn?

    Hi
    Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) - one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
    So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
    Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
    Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

    Use of strange video/audio material e.g. .avi, .wmv, .mp3 etc.
    I only use.
    Video - StreamingDV (miniDV tape via FireWire) and
    Audio - .aiff (as on audio-CDs) (else converted to this .aiff 48KHz)
    Photo - .jpg (.bmp known problematic)
    Chapters !
    A.    Using strange letters in video project name e.g. +,/; etc. keep to a-z and 0-9 strange letters in project name e.g. +
    as described by Donnyboy69.  Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.
    B.    Location of Chapters
    • Can’t be at start or end of movie (Skip first/start one - iDVD sets this by it self. At the End - no need)
    • Not in a transition (or within 2-3 seconds from it)
    Important when from iMovie HD6 or previous - Now also observed when using FCE 4

    Multiplex Error
    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
    Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

    (Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
    First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
    Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
    Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
    Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

    I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
    It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
    Hopefully this can help other people.
    by dheb0422
    Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.
    One user more writes
    To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
    Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
    One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
    I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
    Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
    Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
    So had something to do with chapters
    So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
    After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
    That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
    When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
    As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
    I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

    In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
    Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
    One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
    Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

  • Problem with keyframe effect - at start and end (crop and scale)

    I'm having this odd problem with keyframe effects.
    Setup:
    I have a gif image that I have on video 1 for say 2 minutes.
    I have my real video on video 2.  It is a person talking.
    First I start with my video full size on top of video 1.
    Though the motion and cropping keyframe management I slowly reduce the scale and crop my video image so that it is reduced to the lower left bottom of the screen, on top of the gif, which is now revealed.
    My problem is at the start and end of the transition from full video to small box on lower left on top of my gif I often get 1-2 frames where the video goes blank and/or I get a bunch of random red bars on black background appearing on the video - Or I get the gif from video 1 without the video 2 at all (it disappears).
    I've tried moving my start of end of the transition to skip the bad spots - but these new transition starts or ends not get their own bad spots in the same way.  Its only a couple of frames but it's really unacceptable for the finished video.
    Note, when I say transition here I don't mean real transition events, but rather the start of effects that are managed with keyframes.  My move from start to end of the effect runs for about 4-6 seconds.
    Any ideas?

    Bill,
    Here is more detail and screen captures.
    Concept:
    I have 3 minutes of video.  It contains a person making a speech.  During parts of the speech I want to reveal a graphic image that will be discussed.  The speech will begin with the speaker full screen.  Half way in, the speaker will shrink down to 45% in the lower left corner of the screen.  While the animation occurs (the shrink, move and cropping) it will reveal the graphic below.  The graphic will take up the full screen with the speaker at 45%.
    Technique:
    I put the video in Video 2 and the graphic, a GIF image in Video 1.  The scene begins with the speaker talking at full screen.  After a minute, I animate the move of the speaker using Motion: Scale and Position and Effect: Crop changing Top, Bottom, Left and Right sides.  The animation occurs over approximately 8 seconds.
    I am manually adding keyframes at the start and end of the animation.  I set the ending state of the video image in the end keyframes.  The interpolation between these start and end keyframes should be managing the animation.
    Problem:
    At the beginning and end of the animation – usually 1-3 frames from the start and 1-3 frames from the end, where the change has barely begun or almost ended, I get these problems.  On some frames, the video (in Video 2) completely disappears only showing the Video 1 GIF image below.  On other frames, the video image turns black with horizontal red bands half way across.
    Troublshooting:
    I’ve tried deleting all start and end keyframes and moving the start and end earlier or later to see if I can fix this, but the problem continues to show up in these new locations.
    I have added a few screen shots.
    1:32:15 is the start of the animation change and 1:40:22 is the end of increasing from the mini video speaker to full size (on top of the GIF).
    At 1:40:16 the video image completely disappears only showing the GIF below.
    At 1:40:17 its back and slowly increases in size through the interpolation until it is full size at 1:40:22.
    Let me know if you need anything else.
    Thanks!

    Regards,
    Prasad.

    Hello Prasad,
    Most likely the user km_admin still has system principal roles assigned, even though you removed the Super Admin role, you should check that this user doesn't have any other admin roles, otherwise it will be considered a System Principal user and will therefore still have access to all content. For more information see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/19/56f28fbd4e11d5993b00508b6b8b11/frameset.htm
    Try creating a new user with just read access to the content and you should see that it will not be able to make any changes etc.
    Regards,
    Lorcan.

    Just in case, check to see if "Crossfade songs" has been checked in your Playback preferences in iTunes. Here's a screenshot showing where to find it:
    If it is checked, try unchecking it and click OK.

    I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.”  What do I do?  I have opened this up in the past without a problem.

    Back up all data.
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
