Track Height Stays Large After Using Automation

My understanding is that the new GarageBand track height is not changable just like the old version of GarageBand.
The track height does get larger though when you view automation.
I think that's nice, but in two projecs now, I've had the track height randomly stay large after using automation and it will not go back to being small. I assume this is a bug but I really hope someone has seen this and perhaps has a cure. It's driving me batty.

That looks buggy in your screenshots.
When I disable the automation by pressing the Show/Hide Automation button, the track will shrink again:
Have you used the Show/Hide Automation button or the "Enable Automation" button?

Program windows too large after using migration assistant

This seems like a silly question. I just got my MacBook for Christmas and I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my iMac to the MacBook. It worked great except that the sizes of the program windows remained the same as well, and they are too big on this 13" screen for me to access things that are way down on the bottom of the window. I can't get a hold of the corner tab that allows you to resize the window manually because it is off the bottom of the screen. I did try minimizing/moving the task bar from the bottom of the screen, but the windows are still too big. I discovered the problem in iTunes, but I suspect it is universal. I'd appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks.

I was having problems with my photo booth, when i'd open it up i could only see half of the pics that I had already taken. I couldn't delete them or anything. After reading what you wrote it had dawned on me, maybe it could have been the screen resolution. Why won't VB ActiveX exe shutdown after using Automation close in Labview

I built an instrument driver in Visual Basic and created an ActiveX EXE server to call it from Labview (since I need to see a non-modal form (a progress bar showing time left to scan), I can't make it a dll).
The problem I have is that when the program ends, I call Automation Close to close the refnum yet the activeX exe still remains running. It may have something to do with the com port. When I run the server only calling methods that do not actually talk to the instrument, I can close it down. When I initialize the com port however, the server no longer closes down and the com port remains open.
I created another method to explicitly close the com port before I call Automation Close
but the activeX exe still remains running. When I disable the progress bar from showing and create an ActiveX dll, everything closes fine, but I would like to show the progress bar. Is there something in Visual Basic I need to do to check that it has no callers to it and close down? Any ideas?

You could always try setting up a type of communication where LabVIEW makes a call to the ActiveX server to shut it down. For example, you implement a function in your VB program which, when called, closes the COM port and calls End(). Just call this function from LabVIEW when you are finished and it should close out. It's worth a try.

Can I use the volume sliders after adding automation to tracks?

After adding a whole bunch of automation to pretty much every track on my first real project on GarageBand, I started trying to mix, and it seems the volume sliders are all locked up on the tracks with automation. I really don't want to have to add a million more automation points just to mix the song properly, so if anyone has a solution, that would be greatly appreciated!

Using Automator to open a program with a delay after a programmed restart

Hi to all! With my old PowerPc I used to start unattended sessions of my Newsreader (Unison) overnight simply putting Unison in my Login elements window, and programming a restart at a fixed hour. Unfortunately, with my very fast new iMac this doesn't work: Unison opens too fast after the programmed restart, before a network connection has been established, and Unison is unable to see the NewsServer online when it starts (error "nodelist not found", typical of a not yet established Internet connection). Note that I downgrade to Unison 1.8.x to do this, as the Unison 2.x program cannot be closed with a session running to resume it after start: it simply defaults to "Pause transfers" after quitting, and need a clic on "Resume" after reopening.
Obviously, what I need is to introduce a "wait (say) 2 minutes before the opening of Unison", or anything that can check the Internet connection before Unison starts. May anyone instruct me to do this with Automator and/or AppleScript?
In fact, I tried to generate a workflow in Automator, with a Pause after the start of the process, then the instruction to open Unison. I put the saved workflow in my Login elements, but it didn't work on my iMac 27, i7Core, Snow Leopard installed. I added an "execute workflow" at beginning of the process, but the Pause command gives always an error and the process stops before Unison' opening.
Any suggestion or help in writing an Automator or AppleScript workflow/script to be put among the startup items?

After using apogee duet, mac's built in mic & logic's track headers for recording are not working properly. How do I fix it?

After using apogee duet for mac, I was away from my home studio without the duet and wanted to record vocals via the internal microphone on my mac book pro. (Obviously, I know it wouldn’t be the same quality. I wanted to do it as a draft, because I had a melody in my head and wanted to record it so I could remember it later.)
After opening up a project I was unable to record audio. I noticed the track headers had changed. Sometimes the “record ready” button was missing. But whether it was there or wasn’t, the same thing kept happening… After pressing the “record button” or the “record ready” button a window would pop up that said, “No input source selected!” I tried to trouble shoot by configuring track header and by going to prefereces>audio>devices>core audio, and switched the “input device” to “built in microphone,” and things like that, but I still would get the same pop up window indicating “no input source selected.” To be thorough, in preferences under “core audio,” I have selected universal track mode, 24 bit recording, and software monitoring.
Do I need to reset something?
If your recommendations help fix the immediate issue temporarily, how do I keep it from reverting back to the same problem if I feel like switching between the duet interface and the built in mic in the future? How do I keep it permanently from this malfunction? It seems like this is something simple that would be addressed.
Also, as I was trying to think of anything it could possibly be. I wonder if it could be the driver I installed for an old m-box2 possibly causing an issue. After getting my new mac book pro, I downloaded a driver for m-box2 (the second generation that came out in 2005 and used pro tools LE.) I used the m-box on my previous computer and it worked well. Since I purchased a new macbook, I tried to use it on my new computer, but since the m-box2 is a 32 bit system, it didn’t work very well, which is why I got the duet. I don’t know if that could possibly be messing anything up. If so, should I uninstall it somehow?

Ok, think this through... you've changed from a stereo source to a mono source.
The message reads: “No input source selected!”
On the track you're trying to record there is an Input section directly underneath the I/O label. Click and hold to select the correct Input for that track.
Also, the project you opened was saved with the Duet's driver/interface parameters.. if you open the same project without the audio interface Logic will do it's best to pick I/O that's compatible but I've never seen any DAW do this perfectly.. it always takes a small amount of user input. Especially since you've changed from the Apogee to the internal mic.

After using Merge Clips in CS6, the resulting file now has two audio tracks

I'm running into a weird problem after using the Merge Clips option. I have my video and audio selected, I've already moved the audio so they're both synced. It looks like this:
Then I use Merge Clips and pull the new file into a new sequence which in turn looks like this:
I checked the audio channels for both and apparently the merged file separated the left and right audio channels into two separate streams as opposed to using the single stream for both channels like the original.
Anyway to prevent it from doing this?

At the very bottom they list limitations, one of which being "Merged clip audio results in mono track audio only."
Which I was familiar with before posting this. It doesn't seem however that the two tracks are mono it looks like they are two separate stereo tracks. If I mute one I still get audio in both speakers even though I muted the "right" track.

I guess the only thing to do is just deal with it or render out each clip uncompressed to have that single audio channel.

WLAN/Wap stays on after sync or web/maps use, does...

my wlan/wap connection always stays on after a mail for exchange sync or even just web browsing. Is this a bug or a feature? It never seems to turn off and I have to do this manually after each sync of email or use of interweb. thanks David

As said above, you can set the phone to prompt when it wants to go onto the internet.
You can also download "AutoDisconnect" from Maemo Extras (or Dev) which can kill the connection if it is idle for a set time etc.

Now, I want to input the tips into a MySQL database with an insert statement like:

Are you familliar with regular expressions? If you are, then you can create a shell script and incorporate it into your workflow. Or you could use bbedit or textwrangler from barebones.com to search and replace in multiple files.

Cannot use Automator to Find Aperture Albums - just get errors

I've been trying to use Automator to automate the process of Exporting my Portfolio from Aperture to jpegs, then uploading these via FTP. However, whenever I try to use the automator actions "Choose Albums" and "Find Aperture Items" I get either errors or no items returned. I've eventually concluded that both the 'Choose Albums' and the 'Find Aperture Items' (with 'Albums' selected from the drop-down) can only find albums which are inside Projects, and cannot find albums which are not (i.e. are just in a folder).
For example, I am able to use Find Aperture Items (but not Choose Albums, incidentally) to find an album called 'Landscapes' which is inside a PROJECT called 'Portfolio', but not able to find an album called 'Landscapes' which is inside a FOLDER called 'Portfolio'. (Note the folder is not inside anything else, just under the Library heading in the inspector).
Since I store my portfolio as a set of albums inside a folder, and do not want to store it as Projects inside a folder (as this would require the photos to be moved to that project, rather than residing in their original project and having a reference to them in the album), can you suggest any way that I can use Automator to find these albums which are not inside folders and hence export my versions?
I should mention that when I try to use Choose Albums to find anything I get error messages, and when I try to use Find Aperture Items to find albums which are not inside projects I simply get no results.
Also, I'm running Automator 2.2.2, Aperture 3.2.3 and Lion 10.7.3.

A quick rundown from the top:
First I set some variables. The path to the place where I want my portfolio exported, and the names of each of the Albums my portfolio is sorted into plus the folder name for each album.
Next I set a timeout - this is required because Apple Events time out after two minutes by default, so when exporting a large number of versions the script would time out and fail. So I set the timeout to 30 minutes instead.
Next I launch Aperture (in the background) and select my file naming policy and version export settings. These are selected from those that I have set up in Aperture.
Then for each of the Albums specified earlier, I get the contents of the album and export it, using Aperture's 'export' AppleScript command. For my purpose, I export both a large version and a thumbnail sized version. The thumbnails go in a folder which is in the folder where the full sized versions go.
That's about it. My actual script contains a bit of extra code to only export versions with Green colour labels, but that's just specific to how I have my library set up, so I haven't included it here.
Hope that's useful to anyone else who wants to export their Albums to folders!

ImporterProcessServer.exe has stopped working - width/height too large

I'm getting this error everytime I try importing a video that I got converted from a BetaCam tape. I have the movie in Microsoft DV Codec and Quicktime DV Codec.
The first thing that happens is this error pops up with the following details:

Thanks for the reply.
Initially I was using a simple PAL DV setting, but once I got the error I tried using larger project settings with no luck.
The source video was provided in two formats, for any compatitbility issues so it's the same video.... One is the QT and one is the MS AVI. The frame size of the video is 720 x 576 and 25 fps. Each file is around 27 GB and just over 2 hours long.
It's wierd, Premiere won't import either files, After Effects crashes but Encore brings it right in.... if only I didn't need to do a bit of editing. I'm not sure of the program that did the conversion, but we had it sent off to a studio because the source footage was on Digital BetaCam tape and I'm guessing it was originally captured in Avid, but who knows.
Any suggestions?
