Track Listings Out of Order

Albums I've imported to iTunes the tracks are displayed out of order. I've looked at the view options, sorting and the shuffle isn't on.

I got it. Clicking on the heading straightened it out.

  • ITunes U courses listings out of order? Hegarty - Coding Together

Paul Hegarty's iTunes U course named "Coding Together - Apps for iPhone and iPad" lists its courses in a confusing order, it seems. (See image below).  The number system is inconsistently applied and out of order, the dates are jumbled, etc.
How can I know what order to take the courses?  (Believe me, I've tried to find the answer before posting this).

Set your track numbers correctly (by right clicking, clinking 'Get Info' and clicking on the info tab), and make sure you also set the totals (e.g. 12 of 18 - the "of 18" is what I mean by the totals). This sorted it out on my iPod.
This worked for me for my Teaching Company files. They were all jumbled previously because they took the track numbers from the default import from the internet. Once I changed it, no problem.
It would be better if Apple allowed just a dragging, or if there was a quick tool, but at least this works.
I had previously been using "Join Together" for stuff like this. I think I like this method better, though. I can still keep the individual lecture files on a playlist, but not have to worry about all the separate titles in a general listing.

  • Album tracks suddenly out of order

For some reason a few of my albums are out of order-- not considerably out of order, but in one of them the 4th and 6th songs show up 1st and 2nd, and in another the 2nd song shows up 9th.
BEFORE YOU ASK: No, shuffle is not on, and no, the track numbers in iTunes are not incorrect because I have triple-checked this (seems obvious) and the tracks on my nano USED to be in the right order, but now suddenly aren't (and only on these 2 albums, at least that I've noticed so far).
I tried deleting the songs off my nano and recopying them from iTunes (where again, they show up in the right order) but the nano put them in the wrong order again.
    Simply resetting doesn't work.
Can anyone give me any ideas how I might fix this? Searched everywhere to no avail, thanks in advance---

As I said before, I tried deleting the songs off my nano and recopying them from iTunes (where again, they show up in the right order) but the nano put them in the wrong order again.
I also tried changing the album number and recopying them, but the same tracks are still in the same wrong order.
    Any other advice?

  • One track played out of order

I've noticed this problem since one of the last updates: I have my settings on shuffle by album and the albums normally play from 1 to the end. However, certain albums skip a track in the middle and play it last. ex. 1-4, 6-10, 5 (My Morning Jacket, Z) It doesn't do this with every album, but quite a few. I've messed with the settings and album info, but can't find anything that would explain why it does this. And it does it on both my mac and PC...
    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Alright- figured it out.  Each out of order track had an "album artist" filled in (a field under artist when you click "Get info) and the others just just had "artist" filled in.  By filling in an "album artist" on all the tracks in addition to the already filled in "artist" field, I got them to arrange themselves properly in the album order.  I assume blanking out the "album artist" field on the tracks that had it also might have worked.  I think the key is making sure all the meta-data is exactly the same.
Just posting this for the sake of anyone googling for answers to the same issue.

  • Submitted Podcast, but tracks are out of order

I recently submitted a Podcast and it was approved by Apple, but the page brings up the tracks in a random order. In my RSS feed, the tracks are listed in the correct sequence, however most have identical creation dates.
Does iTunes sort the tracks by Creation Date? If so, I have to change these in my RSS file, do I need to resubmit or will iTunes automatically point to the updated feed link?
    Thanks!!

I updated my RSS feed link and changed the creation times (track 1 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:45:13GMT. Track 2 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:55:13GMT, etc) However now all the tracks are listed in reverse order (most current creation date first). I find this to be an enormous inconvenience and am still at a loss as to why iTunes can't display the tracks in the order they're listed in the RSS feed, regardless of creation date.
Any assistance on how iTunes does its initial track sorting would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is there a way to reorganize out-of-order tracks in iTunes 11?

    Hello all--
In iTunes 10, if an album appeared with the track numbers out of order, I could just click on the track number tab within each individual album and the tracks would be resorted by track number. In iTunes 11, I can't find a way to do the same thing. For example, I imported an album and now it starts out with track 4, then goes to 15, etc., but can't get them to sort sequentially. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried looking at one out-of-order album in the "songs" view, based on a similar question, but every time I try to search for the album under "songs" iTunes shows the result under "albums".

here is a link to macosxhints.com that tells you how to output all of your feed URLs to a terminal window. from there you can cut and paste them into your new feed reader of choice...

  • My iPod all of a sudden started to screw up the track listings! Help!

I am one of those people that likes to make sure all of my music in iTunes is with all of its album art, track listings, titles, album order, etc. are all correct. My iPod on the most latest sync decided to seemly arbitrarily scramble some of my albums such that the track listing is out of order. The funny thing is that it is all properly ordered  in iTunes (as it has been for quite some time). The point is I haven't changed anything in my iTunes and it started to do this without any known provocation.
Is anyone else having this problem? I wish I could try to fix it but I do see anything I can do.
    Please help!
    Thanks

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Songs out of order?

I recently imported several CDs to my iTunes library, and for some reason, some of the songs are appearing out of order. I have read the discussions regarding this on the message board (probably not all, but four or so?), and it doesn't seem to be the same reason everyone else is encountering. A few notes detail the problem:
    - There's one album where the track list is: 10, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... 9, 11, 12 (in order except Track 10), and a few others with the same issue (albiet different track number out of order)
    - The album in question is only by one artist. I have group-changed the artist, album and album artist fields to the same value for all tracks. So it's not a guest-artist issue.
    - I have marked the album as a compilation, to no effect. This worked great on many multi-artist albums, but didn't help here.
    - All tracks of the CD are marked as being within one CD (there isn't the horizontal line that desigates different albums).
    - The tracks appear in order when I sort by Artist; however, this breaks up the compilations elsewhere in the library, so I really want to use Album by Artist.
    - Changing the view format to adjust options did not help either, and this seems strange enough that I'm surprised it helped for someone else in the past.
    - Closing and reloading iTunes also had no effect.
Any thoughts on how to make them appear in order in the Album by Artist view?

maybe i missed something here. But heres my $0.02
you cannot change the order in the library it is true, except by sort.
you can change the order in playlists by simple drag 'n' drop.
So if this makes sense to you then you can ignore the order in the library (no more reimporting). You can then just set up a playlist and order them by column sort OR just drag and drop them into the order you want.
    hope that helps

  • Out of Order Audiobook files

    Hello All,
Just got my new iPod today. Upgraded from a iPod mini 4g t the new 30g. I am going to mainly use it for some Podcasts and audiobooks while I work.
As I was waiting to get my new iPod I downloaded some of my cd audio books into my library and some of the tracks are out of order. How, in my library do I put them back in order?
When I downloaded them into the library I copied them into a folder, in which they are in order, but as I said they are not in order in my library.
    HELP ME PLEASE! =-(

Atleast what I do for my Audiobooks is I label the disc number(or book as disc) and also the track number.
You can do this by right clicking on a song then selecting Get Info and you can add in a Disc number and Track number.
This can be a slightly long process trust me, I've done all the harry potter audiobooks and Lord Of the Rings unabridged + The Hobbit this way.

  • When sorting library as "Album by Artist," an album is out of order

This is really insignificant, I know, but it's bizarre, and I can't figure out why it's happening.
On one specific album, out of 1370, when I sort my library as Album by Artist or Album by Year, a single track is out of order. It is track 12, but appears at the end, after track 14. No matter what I put as the track number for that track, it will always be placed at the end of the album. It is not labeled as a different disc, album, or album artist, or as part of a compilation, nothing is misprinted, and near as I can tell, the track's info is completely consistent with the rest of the album. I even deleted all the track info for the whole album and manually filled it back in, and it still appears out of order. The tracks DO appear in the correct order when I only sort by album.
What exactly is going on here? Is this some sort of bug, or is there some data in the track I haven't thought of that will always cause it to appear at the end of the album when sorting as I do?
    Message was edited by: Rollersnake

OK, putting something in the Album Artist field for the album fixed it.
Near as I can tell, the track info for the album was inconsistent when I downloaded it, and though I deleted the "album artist" field for the whole album, more than once even, it somehow still registered as being different for that one track. Now when I delete the field for the whole album, it stays in order regardless of sorting method.

  • Do out of order iTunes 11 tracks sync to iPod?

The upgrade to iTunes 11 caused various albums to show out of order track listsings in expanded view.  We haven't re-synced our iPod to iTunes since the update for fear that this mis-ordering will be brought over to the iPod.
Will the new track ordering move to the iPod on sync?
Is there any way to force the old ordering?
We've looked at a lot of solutions on line, none have helped, they're for previous versions.  We see a correlation between the albums we ripped from CD and the ones that are mis-ordered.
    All help appreciated!!

I just reformatted the files to MP3 and it took care the problem.

  • Track order of my album out of order

    Hello,
I am having issues with my song order on my itunes.
Usually when I put my songs of a certain album in my itunes and click the album tab at the top the songs are in order by track number in my album, but for one of my albums its in a completely messed up order and I can't figure out why.
What I have tried so far:
-I used the "get info" and made sure that the track number is there in order (1-20) for each song.
-For the track number I also tried listing it as 1 of 20, 2 of 20, 3 of 20...etc but it has no effect.
-I used "get info" and tried typing 1 of 1 for the disc number for each song in my album but it did nothing so I changed it back to what it was, (it doesn't say anything)
-I even renamed my songs starting with a 1-20 corresponding to its track number, nothing changed.
-I even did this to the song files on my computer with windows media player so the files themselves have the correct track number and numbering in song name, I used the "Advanced tag editor" on WMP.
    - I sync songs manually by dragging the songs into my "music" under my ipod, not my itunes library, this always worked except for this album, I tried syncing my songs about 5 or so times
-I use a windows XP 2005 edition and the new nano ipod
    Other info:
-The album name is the same for each song, so all the songs are in the same album.
-It is set to album, not album by year or artist or anything else.
-It is not on shuffle, the order is physically out of order so when i play it on "play once" or similar it's suppose to go on to the next song in that track order but since it's in a messed up order it plays in that messed up order where normally on a normal un-messed up order album it would play the next track number in order since it is in order on my itunes.
    Other info 2:
-I do not want to make a playlist, I want the album in order on my itunes so when I'm using my ipod I can just go that album and play the songs according to track number.
-The reason why I want it into order a lot is because this album is a "gapless megamix" which means when the songs transaction into the next song is unnoticeable since the song transact into the next song without pausing, so basically it is like one big, one hour song when actually composed of 20 songs, so the album must be in order.
So in a nut shell I just want my album's songs to be in track order.
    Thanks

Sorry for double posting but I wanted this to be in a different post
Ok, after hours and hours of hurting my head I found the solution to this.
The problem is that in the "sort" tab under the "get info" section is that there are 2 sections for artists, one is just "artist" and the other is "album artist."
When you erase the "album artist" the track number reorders itself correctly, so I just needed to leave "artist" and delete the "album artist."
Now my track order is not messed up.
Hopefully this may help other people who are having the same issue.

  • Joining out-of-order tracks in iTunes

Is there some way to rip CD's by joining tracks out of the order in which they appear on iTunes?  A lot of times, particularly with classical music I'd like to be able to do that.  All help  appreciated.

iTunes does not support that - it only provides a Join Tracks during CD import, and only then for consecutive tracks.  There are multiple third-party applications that will do this - both dedicated "track joiners" and fully functional audio tools such as Audacity.  Having said that, iTunes' track and disc numbering/ordering functions and the ability to manually order playlists should satisfy most requirements to play music in specific order without the need to manipulate the media files themselves.

  • ITunes playing tracks out of order

Ever since upgrading to iTunes 11 I've had a problem with some albums playing tracks out of order.
I put the track number in the file names and track titles, so sometimes I leave the track number field blank. Not a problem, because iTunes sorts the tracks alphabetically so it lists them in the right order.
In album view, if I select the first track, it plays all the tracks in the right order. But if I select the album, either by double-clicking the album cover or by searching for it from the mini player, it plays them in a random order.
This makes no sense. What's going on here?

So that's an obvious solution (and what I just did in this particular case). But it's an annoying bit of extra work and, more importantly, since it was never necessary before, I have a lot of albums which don't have track numbers. Because, as I said, they always displayed and played in the correct order regardless. So the track number tag was extraneous.
What I'm wondering is whether there's a fix for this behavior.
And also whether it's possible to implore the iTunes development team to fix this! If the tracks are listed in a certain order, they should always play in that order.
