Track/Mouse Pad Issue

My MacBook has been sitting on my desk for two days....suddenly, the only way I can do a "mouse click" is by tapping the track pad, not by pushing the lower left or right corners. The pad itself at the bottom where the push click would be is actually (for lack of better word) lower than the top and I can no longer actually "click" when I push the lower corners.
So, two questions...
1.) Is this a common problem?
2.) Is this fixable or am I stuck with a wireless mouse for the rest of the computer's life?

Hi and welcome to Apple discussions,
Is your Macbook one with a removable battery. If it is take the battery out and run it from the mains. Does the track pad work OK now. If it does it probably means that the battery has become distorted or swollen and is affecting the trackpad.
It may be time to get a new battery.

Alan

  • MacBook Pro Mouse pad issue

When I bought my mac book pro I bought apple care along with it. The guy on the phone told me that apple care will cover some physical damages as well thats why I paid for it. Now unfortunately, my touchpad is cracked( I am not sure why). When I went to apple store in Mission Viejo, CA, the technical assistant was rude with me and said he can not help. I bought apple product not because of the technology but for the customer care but I have to mention I had a worst experience of my life. I don't want to pay for my touchpad because I have apple care which is useless. I am not sure what to do now.

Typically, most anything that's "cracked" - whether it's a cracked screen or keyboard - is thought to be the result of abuse. A touchpad rarely moves much, and they're hard to "crack" (unless something was dropped onto them). I'm not saying that your issue didn't happen just as you say, only that your main challenge is to prove it.
A mouse pad/track pad is typically touched or tapped, so this makes cracks harder to prove.
Applecare doesn't cover user caused damage; that's where your property's liability insurance comes in. Saying that you don't know how it happened isn't good enough; the Apple rep won't believe you until you show how the crack could have happened.
There have been incidents like this. Search the web ("mac mouse pad crack") and assemble your evidence. Then, based on this, go back to the Apple Store with your case.

  • Mouse pad issue, cannot click

    Hello everyone,
My girlfriend has an issue with her Macbook.
It's an issue with the mouse pad, she can move the cursor but cannot click. Sometimes, the mouse is acting like it has the button held down. In Safari, it acts like she clicked on sliding bar, moving the page up and down. Or she would try to double click on an icon and suddenly the icon follow the mouse like she was dragging it. She restarted the computer a lot of time but the problem eventually comes back after a few minutes. I tried a USB mouse but it's the same issue, the left click doesn't work, only the right click showing the menu.
The keyboard seems to be behaving erratically too sometimes.
Would appreciate if you could help me out here!

The Macbook is prior to late 2007.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the stuck mouse pad.  I used a q-tip with alcohol to clean the corners (depress the pad and swab while depressed).

Shut the computer down and clean the trackpad with a dry microfiber cloth.

second the mouse tap would work for 5-10 minutes when i opened the laptop .. then it stops and the mouse pointer disapear. this situation keeps happening eery time i turn the lap top on

    Hello yaser255,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I will do my best to assist you with your inquiries. To figure out how old the notebook really is, and whether or not it is used, you will need to call HP phone support and provide the product's serial number. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
In regards to the mouse pointer disappearing, it will actually do that if left unused for a bit. I just saw it happen on a Windows 8 notebook to verify this. However, shaking or clicking the mouse should return the pointer. You should connect a USB mouse to the computer and see if the issue persists.
Please let me know your results. Thanks!

  • New Track Pad Issues After 10.6.4 Update

I understand that the Mac OS X 10.6.4 was meant to address some track pad issues. I was not experiencing any track pad issue on my Late 2009 MacBook Pro prior to the update. However now my laptop is almost unusable!
The pointer tracking remains accurate on all areas of the track pad, however most clicks are not recognized, requiring an average of 3-5 clicks to initiate an response. Also the bottom half of the track pad surface now seems less responsive to input than the top half. Multitouch gestures like selecting and dragging often lose track of my fingers before I've completed the action. Scrolling still seems to work fine.
Again, I've had this MacBook Pro for 9 months now and prior to the 10.6.4 update the track pad was highly responsive and accurate regardless of how I placed my fingers. Please look into this matter immediately! Thank you.

Exact same problem here. I hadn't notice what you write about the bottom half of the trackpad being less sensitive than the upper one, but now that you said it, I think the same thing it's going on with mine.
I think my problems didn't appear right after I installed 10.6.4, or at least I didn't notice until 2 or 3 days ago. Maybe it worths the try to make a downgrade to 10.6 and check if the problem stop. Let's hope that someone came with the answer to this things, I really hate to use the 'tap to clic' function.

So I recently updated to the latest Yosemite software (last night to be exact), and this morning i started to get a weird clicking and sort of grinding noise to the right of the mouse pad and extremely slow performance. • HP 4420s - How to enable mouse pad ?

    Hi all,
I have a user that has somehow disabled the mouse pad on this unit (HP 4420s laptop). I don't have a unit on had to test what he's relaying to me. He says there is a yellow light now near the touch pad that illuminates when he is logged into his profile and the pad goes dead..also there is a screen shoot on the monitor of a track pad with a finger pointing to it with a red x over it.
Obivously it's disabled somehow, so my question is how to enable? I've had him try (or atleast he said he did what I told him) hold top left corner of touch pad for 6 seconds and see if it enables...he said it didn't work.
Is there any other method besides this?
    Thanks

I have same issue with new 4420s. Waitigfor god advice!

  • Audition CS5.5 mouse scrolling issue

Not sure if this has been asked or even resolved.  I am having a hell of a time zooming in/out with the mouse scroll.  I have a feeling its my mouse but the problem only happens when using Audition CS5.5.
I have to pretty much fling the scroll wheel in order to zoom.  The scroll wheel works fine in other programs (ie: IE, Firefox, Word, Outlook, etc.) It worked fine in Audition 3.0.  Another person in the building has a wired mouse with the same computer and scrolls fine, but I havent had a chance to try out a wired mouse on mine to test.  I am using a USB wireless mouse.  I can use the scrolling zoom on the mouse pad and that works.  But didn't know if anyone else had an issue with their mouse.
Edit:  It scrolls Vertically in multi-track with scroll wheel... but not horizontally in multi-track or edit view.

Thanks for coming back and explaining the issue.  It doesn't happen very often, but it can be a lifesaver for others who might have the same problem down the road.

  • Best mouse  pad for magic mouse ?

I used a thick sponge-ish non slip mouse pad with a cloth-like covering for my MS mouse on my pc. Now with the imac and magic mouse, this pad seems not quite right. The tracking is a little strange acting. Would a more plastic coated mouse pad surface be better with the magic mouse? Or suggestions?

i use wowpad for all the mice i use, i works great with all of them. there are no issues with mouse jumping and save battery life too.

  • Help! My Mouse pad is not working properly. The arrow cannot be controlled, it just keeps jumping all over the page. How can I stop this?

Help! My Mouse pad is not working properly. The arrow cannot be controlled, it just keeps jumping all over the page. How can I stop this?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Satellite A500 - mouse pad freezes every time I go onto the internet

    Hi all,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 and every time I go onto the internet my mouse pad freezes. The only option I have is to restart the computer again. This is becoming very frustrating as I do not know what to do?
If someone can help this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Cheers
    Karen.

    Hello Karen
To be honest I have never heard about something like this and believe you are the first one with this strange issue.
I would like to know since when you have noticed this? I cannot imagine this issue persists from the first day.
Do you have original preinstalled operating system?
I can imagine the first step can be BIOS update. Is latest BIOS installed on your Satellite Notebook?

  • Mouse pad Freezes

I bought the HP probook G1 450 less than a year ago, and i have a problem with the mouse pad , as it sometimes freeze (only moving really slowly but in one line , doesn't go up or down).
i read online some ppl have had the same issue with windows 8.1 (after the update), and the solution is to connect an external mouse , remove the device installation and re-install so you get the last update (as its un-detectable when its the same version but with a slight difference ),i did all the steps correctly and 80% of the time its working perfectly , but then what i explained before happens, and i need to put it to sleep or just hibernate to get back up running ,Of course when am using external mouse, its working perfectly  ....

Hi AJ 1) Have you tried to uninstalling the Driver from device manager.2) Update the Latest Bios from HP website.3) Have you tried performing the system restore to the date where unit was working fine.

  • Magic Mouse on Mouse Pad not working

Love the new Magic Mouse, except that it does not seem to track properly on a mouse pad.
I don't care for how it feels on the wood surface of my desk (though it does work properly there).
So I got just a plain old mouse pad, and for some reason it tracks poorly or not at all.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks
    ian

Ian , I use a dark grey pad and don't have a problem with tracking, albeit I've extend the mouse's capabilities with the excellent and free Better Touch Tool. Perhaps it will help you.
