Track names in score view?

Hi,
*Short question*: is it possible to see track names instead of instrument names in score view?
*Long story & question*: I am setting up an orchestral template. All articulations of for instance the picolo are in the same instance of kontakt. I use tracks with the same instrument and different midi channels to address all articulations.
In the arrange window I name all tracks appropriate. For instance pic-leg, pic-stac, ...
The problem is I don't see these track names in the score view. I only see the instrument name PICOLO when I switch on +view instrument names+. This is very annoying, as I have 12 articulations for the picolo. I do a lot of editting in the score view and cannot see which staff belongs to which articulation.
Is it possible to see the track names instead of the instrument names in score view? I know it can be done with using extra midi instruments, but I don't want to go that way, because then freezing isn't possible anymore. And importing tracks in another song isn't as easy anymore.
Thanks, Wouter.

Hi,
Thanks for your explanation. Unfortunately, it still doesn't help me.
What I mean:
- start new song
- Load a Channel strip setting, eg Pop Piano
- track->new with next midi channel
- rename new track to piano 2
The score view now displays Pop Piano for both tracks.
Ok.... we are getting closer!
Track names do not appear to show up in the Score when using Multi-Timbral instances (1 instrument with several tracks assigned to the same instrument on different MIDI Channels.
What I described in my earlier post does work for tracks assigned to different Instrument Channels.
Time for some feedback to Apple!
Your only solution seems to be to use the Score set method of naming/labelling staffs, and then working in Page view (ignoring the View:Instrument names).

  • Changing the Instrument Name in Score View

I've modified the Orchestral Template to create my own desired orchestral set up and changed the track names of the instruments and also applied these new names to their corresponding regions but in score view the old names (provided by the template) are still the ones that show up. I've had this problem before when not starting from a Logic template. How do I change instrument names i score view?

Indeed CCT - I had a play around after your very useful post about Instrument names and the long and short of it is as you said:

I too could not rename the actual Midi Instruments in Score View - short of going to the Midi Unit/Environment and bringing up the page with their actual names and changing them ( which I dont want to do).
There is indeed an issue here if you want rename a Midi Instrument from say 'pop piano' to plain "Piano" in Score View and you do want the name on the *actual score* - it would be great if Score View could do this.
However, Logic gives lots of opportunities for different names on the actual score.
One thing that is not perhaps clear to the original Poster is that in order to do this, the best way is to Create a Score Set from Selection and then Double Click in the very top of the Inspector. This brings up all the actual name boxes. You can see the original Instrument name ( ie mid Pop Piano) and then you have the option for Full Name or Short Name which is selectable ... elsewhere in Score Settings> Names and Numbers> Instrument Names

No, this standard has been implemented for several decades.
How iTunes remembers audio CDs - http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27785
It is just conceivable you burned a CD that exactly matched one already in the Gracenote database.  Gracenote uses track count and duration to decide what CD it is you have in a computer.  If you have one that matches that it will label it.  You could conceivably even have one that matches it that is not the correct one.
This script will only work on Macs:

I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

The ""not recognized for on-line use". error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to look up and retrieve metadata for CDs.  Some users have reported that this error occurs when trying to import from CD, subsequent to upgrading to version 12.  A number of slightly different solutions have been reported (though all of a similar nature).
Try walking through the following steps - before starting you may have to enable hidden files and folders to be viewed - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select Organize > Folder and search options, then on the View tab make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is selected.  Without this you won't see the AppData folder in C:\Users\username\
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
    If this doesn't work:
In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and make a note (or take a screenshot) of your preferences settings in all relevant tabs
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following file:iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this second procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1.
    If this one didn't work:
    Exit iTunes
    Check the following folders:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete any copies of the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
Again, if this procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1 of the second procedure. If you're still not able to retrieve CD info:
    Exit iTunes
In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.  Find the entry for iTunes, right-click and select Repair.
When this process has finished, restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If none of these have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests you should be OK by this point), you may have an issue with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself.  If you have got this far, see turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for advice on how to remove and replace of all components of iTunes.

I`ve had the same problem as many of you seem to have with track names in music player appearing as a series of squares. After a lot of experimenting i`ve found that removing the ID3v2 tags(leave the IDv1 tags)solved my problem.I used a tag editor called tagscanner to edit my files.Hope this is of some help.

Can I find the names of who viewed a recording?

If the recording is tied to an Event (using the Events Module) or is converted to a Course (using the Training Module), then yes, you can get the user specific information on viewers. However, as a Content object, either in the Meeting Recordings folder or a Content folder, there is no user specific information that is tracked. This is true for any Content object in Connect.

  • Where is the command in itunes 11 to "get track names again"?

Actually, I need to get track names more than once AFTER I have ripped the CD.
My situation: I ripped a CD, got the message "multiple matches were found online for this cd" (I need this case, 4) and chose the wrong one so that all the tracks are named untitled.
Later (with no CD) I selected the mp3 track (In the Recently Added playlist) right-clicked and chose "Get Track Names" and chose the 2nd of 4 matches, but this was also wrong. Now, if I right-click and choose "Get Track Names" I can see a very brief cddb lookup in the top center (status?) window, but I don't get the  dialog box offering the 4 cddb matches any more.
So now I still don't have the right track names and I can find no way to do another cddb lookup without inserting the original CD. Shouldn't there be a way?

No, the old album list view is not an option in iTunes 11...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
If you still feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • Tracking Individual Users Scores using Captivate 4 and Connect Enterprise

    Hi,
I work in an IT shop and currently I am having trouble supporting our Marketing division's Captivate needs. They wish to be able to create quizes for online viewing in an LMS and be able to track individual users scores for accountability. Right now I we are using Captivate 4 with Adobe Connect Enterprise. I have been able to use the LMS and view quizes online, but all reporting is done as aggregate and not a session by session (individual) basis. Thus, I only have access to average, max, min scores and other info about all test takers, but no information about specific test users. I have considered accomplishing this by sending data to an access database, but this would require the IT deparment to regularly assist them with creating tests. Obviously I am looking to have the Marketing department be as self-sufficient as they can be. I think the easiest way would be to have the quiz report a session ID (unique for each instance of the quiz being accessed) to Adobe Connect and having Connect associate each aswer to a specific session ID. Other than that I do not have any other ideas for proper tracking of each user's score.
Does anyone know what the easiest (least amount of involvement from the IT staff each time Marketing needs to make a test in captivate) way to accomplish this?
    Thanks!

So, i sorta found a way to do this -- by adding a TOC and making the lessons self-paced, the user will always be brought back to the place where they left off when they exited the lesson.
But it seems that even though the icon in the curriculum list changes to CONTINUE when the user closes the lesson, it still unlocks the next lesson even though the staus checkmarks in the previous lesson are not complete.
Help. Are there any other such postings?

Perhaps the first entry on Gracenote (crediting Van Morrison as a solo artist) has been corrected by someone since you originally found that informattion.
Certainly, I for one (help me out here, fellow 60's kids) would consider it incorrect to credit the artist as Van Morrison if it's the original 60's version as performed by Them. However, on the Live At Montreux album, I would expect it to be Van Morrison if he is performing as a solo artist (with a backing band).

  • How can I reset the "dont ask me again" for Get CD track names?

    Hi,
Been using Advanced>Get CD Track names and checked the box for dont ask me again in the pop-up that says its going to go and get the names, I'd like this pop up back, any idea how to reset it? I've searched itunes and the forums!

Unfortunately iTunes doesn't provide a way of unchecking these boxes.
The only way round this I know is to delete your preference files. This takes iTunes back to the state it was when you first installed it. Any special prefernces you have set are lost, so make a note of them if you are going to do this.
    Resetting the iTunes Preference Files:
You may need to make hidden files visible
    My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders
    -- Quit iTunes
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
For Vista the files are in:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

  • Song names imported as "artist - track name" instead of "track name"

When I add a folder to my library (a folder which contains MP3 files which all contain complete ID3 tags), about 50% of the song names get imported as "artist - track name" instead of just "track name". If I click on any track which was imported like this, and right-click and select "get info", the track name shows up correctly in the dialog box, and it suddenly fixes the display on the listing (without me doing anything).
I could fix each song by clicking "get info", but I would have to do this for all my songs, which would take far too long. Is there any way to get iTunes to import these track names correctly? Or is there a way to refresh the listing, and have iTunes re-read the ID3 tags on the MP3 files?

To get the track names etc., when importing a CD, you have to be connected to the Internet.
    This article explains why.
To get the info later, select all tracks (with the generic track names) of an album and choose 'Get CD Track Names' from the Advanced menu in the menubar.
Very often the correct information will show up.

I've uploaded songs to my itunes library for the past year on my ibook G4, and the bought music CDs I imported always displayed their full information (artist, song title, album etc). I just replaced my malfunctioning 40 GB black and white ipod with the 60GB color display video ipod, and now every music cd I try to import shows up with generic track names and no artist or album title. Is this due to the fact that I started using a new ipod? Or did apple change itunes within the past few weeks so that every music cd now shows up only with this generic info? Is this a copyright security measure issue?
