Track names won't come up

I can't get track names to show up - i get a CDDB Error - HTTP Processing Error. I'm on a wireless broadband connection from home so i'm not using a LAN or have any proxy settings. I'm running McAfee Security, but i tried disabling my firewall and that didn't help. I've checked security settings and iTunes is listed as Full Access. Is there somewhere to add in Gracenote as having full access even though it's not an application? ANY SUGGESTIONS??
I can get it to work just fine on my other laptop with the same connection!

Howdy Jillsco93,
There may be instances where track information is not available for certain albums. I have located an article that may help you address the issue:
iTunes 12 for Mac: If you don’t see song information
When you insert a CD in your computer’s disc drive , iTunes finds the CD in the Gracenote media database on the Internet and displays the name and other track information for each song. If songs appear as “Track 01,” “Track 02,” and so on, either you aren’t connected to the Internet or iTunes can’t find the CD’s information.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, you can import the songs anyway, and look up the CD information the next time you’re connected.
Look up CD information in the Gracenote media database
Make sure you're connected to the Internet.
Click Options  near the top right of the iTunes window, and choose Get Track Names.
Select the entry for the CD.
If there's more than one entry, select one (a CD can have more than one entry if more than one person submitted information for the same CD to the Gracenote service); if it doesn't include the correct information, choose Get Track Names again, and choose another entry.
Send CD information to Gracenote
If the Gracenote service has no information about a CD, you can enter your own song information and submit it to Gracenote so other people can use the information. Don’t submit information for custom CDs that you created because others won’t be able to use it.
Make sure you're connected to the Internet.
Click the CD button  near the top left of the iTunes window.
Enter the song information.
Click Options  near the top right of the window and choose Submit CD Track Names.
Enter the artist and album information and click OK.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Best,

  • Track names won't copy and can't be found

I burned an album (fleetwood mac) from my old laptop to a disk - all tracks are correctly named. I copy the disk to my new laptop with itunes and my new itouch but the track names won't copy and when I search for them they are not found on itunes. so instead of song titles, I have track 1, track 2, etc on my new laptop even though the cd I burned has the song names. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
    don

    Couple ways to do it.
Best way is burn a Data disc. All the info i part of the song file itself and will transfer when you copy the file.
Another way is after you burn the CD in your old computer, select the CD then go to menu Advanced -> *Submit CD track names*.
This will send the info to Gracenote and when you insert the CD on a different computer, iTunes will look it up and put in the correct info.

  • Won't Import, Won't get Track Names, Won't leave the store alone

For some reason, even though I have it set to import a CD when I insert one, itunes won't import the CD unless I actually selected all of the tracks and drag them to the library. Once I do that, it either won't find the track names or says it can't, which I find very hard to believe.
Also it keeps trying to access the store even though I didn't set it to do so and it never actually accesses it even though it tries for quite a while.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
I've got it to work sometimes, it appears to be my Broadband internet connection which is at fault. Upon checking it out it appears to be dropping intermittentley but when it's up at the correct speeds, itunes works ok.
    Thanks.

  • Name won't come up when she texts me

Whenever my friend texts me, instead of her contact name coming up, it just comes up as her number, and I don't know what to do?

Have you done a reset of the phone? Press and hold sleep/wake and Home buttons together until Apple logo appears, then release them while phone reboots. Fixed?
If this doesn't help then does keyboard appear okay in text fields of other apps, or is it just Contacts that has this problem?

  • ITunes 11.4.0.18 will not get track names for imported mp3 albums.

I'm new to Apple (Windows 7 i7 Sandy Bridge processor 16GB ram) and recently got an iPod touch 5g 64GB and I am trying to figure out iTunes.  I have GB's of albums that I have collected over the years in mp3 format.  When I imported them to iTunes via...File>Add Folder to Library...It imported all of my albums, but, almost NONE of the tracks are in order and they are "scattered" for lack of a better word.  Some are with the albums they are supposed to be with, but MOST made their own names and albums.  Getting the tracks with the albums I fixed by doing it manually.  Getting the tracks in order in the albums...HELP.  I tried to "Get Track Names", but iTunes comes back with "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes.  To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes."????  I'm assuming that iTunes will only get the track names if they are imported from CD only and not mp3?  If I have to manually enter all of the information in myself....God help me...just leave it unorganized???

When iTunes imports a CD it records the information used to look up the album in the Gracenotes database. When you add your tracks into a different library that data is no longer available. See Grouping tracks into albums for some tips on organizing iTunes content.

  • Won't show cd track names

since (I think) we downloaded itunes 6 (?) when we try to put new cd's into our library the track names/artist don't show up, hit advanced, get track names and comes up with "CDDB information not available for some of these items" but it says that to every cd, new and old. Reinstalled new itunes and still won't work. Anyone have any suggestions, we have been renaming each file and it's taking forever! (on 60 GB video ipod)

Check your settings in iTunes Preferences
Or on the iTunes menu bar open ADVANCED and select from the drop down menu GET TRACK NAMES.
    Ciao.

  • I am having trouble editing track names and information in my Itunes library.  Help center says click on selected track, click on file, click on get info, make changes, and press save.  When I get to get info, it won't let me change anything. Help??

How do I edit track names and information in my I-tunes library?  I followed the Help Center instructions, but it will not let me change anything.  Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Those symptoms usually indicate a permissions problem. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice.

How can i use itunes to find track names on cds from an old roomate"s band. Its a professional cd that was sold in stores but it shows up as track 1 track two. the database could not find them.
I had another friend who made a cd and inputed all of the data but itunes still puts them as track 1 track two.  How can i find the names without manually putting them in?

How can i find the names without manually putting them in?
They will only show up in iTunes if someone (your friend, their producer, or a fan) has submitted them to Gracenote.
If that did not happen, you can try identifying the tracks with an auto-tagging program such as Picard.

  • I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

The ""not recognized for on-line use". error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to look up and retrieve metadata for CDs.  Some users have reported that this error occurs when trying to import from CD, subsequent to upgrading to version 12.  A number of slightly different solutions have been reported (though all of a similar nature).
Try walking through the following steps - before starting you may have to enable hidden files and folders to be viewed - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select Organize > Folder and search options, then on the View tab make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is selected.  Without this you won't see the AppData folder in C:\Users\username\
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
    If this doesn't work:
In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and make a note (or take a screenshot) of your preferences settings in all relevant tabs
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following file:iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this second procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1.
    If this one didn't work:
    Exit iTunes
    Check the following folders:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete any copies of the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
Again, if this procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1 of the second procedure. If you're still not able to retrieve CD info:
    Exit iTunes
In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.  Find the entry for iTunes, right-click and select Repair.
When this process has finished, restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If none of these have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests you should be OK by this point), you may have an issue with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself.  If you have got this far, see turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for advice on how to remove and replace of all components of iTunes.

  • ITunes 11.3.  I can't see any way of accessing the CD database to get track names if somehow they weren't accessed when ripping the CD into my computer.  It used to be EASY.

ITunes 11.3.  I can't see any way of accessing CD track names through iTunes AFTER I ripped the CD into my computer through iTunes.  For some reason the track names were not imported when I ripped the CD.  Anyone know how to do that?

As far as I know this has never been a feature of iTunes.  You always have to identify the CD before ripping.  If you selected the wrong CD you can re-identify it for the next time the Cd is inserted but it won't re-label tracks you have already ripped.   To re-identify an incorrectly identified CD: "Insert the CD and select it in iTunes, then menu Advanced > Get CD track names. It should requery the Gracenote database and let you pick the correct album." - https://discussions.apple.com/message/18901866 - Newer versions in upper right hand corner, Options>Get Track Names

  • Burning CDS and Getting Track Names

HELP! I cannot figure out how to get track names on CDS that I burn. Instead all i get is TRACK 1, Track 2...
What setting needs to be changed on the latest version????

Have you posted this question twice? When you click the "Burn" button a window will come up. You can select the box for "included CD text". However, it is possible that it still won't work as is the case for me. I'm trying to find an answer but finding only aggravation as usual when I need support for iTunes.

  • Im importing cds onto my itunes but they are coming up with no track names/artists etc, itunes is saying i have no internet connnection but im on my laptop and im online, can anyone help? ive never had this issues before? they are legit cds from HMV?

Im trying to import cds i got for xmas onto my itunes and they arecoming up with no artist/album cover or track names, when i click get track info it says i have not internet connection, but im on my windows laptop and can get on the internet, is there something i need to so in itunes tmake it rcognise the album details?

    Hey there lollypops21,
It sounds like you are connected to the internet otherwise, but iTunes is giving you this error message when trying to get info from the Gracenote database to retrieve your album info. I had a couple of articles I wanted to recommend you try. First this one named:
iTunes for Windows can't access the Internet if proxy settings are incorrect
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1490
You can always enter in the album information manually with this article if needed:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Edit song and CD information
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12360
    Customize song and CD info
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking the Info button and selecting the “Part of a compilation” checkbox.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Info and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track Number fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.
iTunes retrieves CD information from the Gracenote media database. For more information, visit the Gracenote website.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Help with a simple applescript for combining Artist text with Track name

    Hi all,
I'd like to put together a simple script that takes the artist names from a list of tracks in iTunes and copies the text to the start of the Title name, followed by " - ".
This is because, e.g. on a classical album, I want the artist names to all be "Classic Collection Gold" but I'd like to keep the artist name contained with the track name. This means when I browse by artist I don't get millions of artists...
I found this script, which does something kinda similar, but I'm new to script writing so not sure how to do it?
    So I'd like to change:
    Name
    Planets: Mars
    Artist
    Gustav Holst
    Ambum:
    Simply Classical Gold (Disc 2)
    To be:
    Gustav Holst - Planets: Mars
    Artist
Gustav Holst - Planets: Mars OR BETTER Simply Classical Gold (Disc 2)
    Album
    Simply Classical Gold (Disc 2)
This script has some ideas in, but I'm not sure how to tweak it....

I'm not sure what that script thinks it's doing, but it's essentially doing nothing, so scrub that and start afresh.
The first thing you need is a way to identify the tracks to change - you don't want to do all tracks in the library (they might have already been munged). A good option is to work on the selected tracks:
    tell application "iTunes"
if selection is not {} then
    set sel to selection
You then need to iterate through those items, changing them one-by-one:
    repeat with aTrack in sel
Now comes the easy part - build a list of the elements you want (in this case you want the name, artist, and album of each track:
set trackName to name of aTrack
set trackArtist to artist of aTrack
set trackAlbum to album of aTrack
Now you have the information you need, so reset the fields as appropriate:
    set name of aTrack to trackArtist & " - " & trackName
set artist of aTrack to trackAlbum -- or to trackArtist & " - " & trackName, depending on your choice
Now clean up by closing off the repeat and tell blocks:
    end repeat
    end tell
Putting it all together you get:
    tell application "iTunes"
if selection is not {} then
      set sel to selection
      repeat with aTrack in sel
set trackName to name of aTrack
set trackArtist to artist of aTrack
set trackAlbum to album of aTrack
        set name of aTrack to trackArtist & " - " & trackName
set artist of aTrack to trackAlbum -- or to trackArtist & " - " & trackName, depending on your choice
      end repeat
    end tell

I'm trying to add the CD Ben Howard - I Forgot Where We Were to iTunes but I keep getting
Error Occurred While Converting the file "Track Name". An Unknown Error Occurred (-50).

Importing problems have been rife in the recent iTunes release.
Not sure how to solve your problem, but until a solution comes along feel free to rip in another program, such as Windows Media Player, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.
