Track No. of times link to external site is clicked on a page

Question:
Our client strongly promotes another business on their site with a large button to click through to that business' url, which then opens in a new window. Is there any way in the reporting section of BC that our client can prove how many times visitors have clicked this link? i.e. a way that they can show how frequently referrals have come from them?
This kind of link click through tracking is obviously possible in eNewsletters - but what about on actual webpages?
Answer:
One way you could do it is by utilising the ad rotator module.
You can add the html to it then add the module code to your page and it will report on total impressions and click throughs to the link specified.
Then you can also have data on the conversion rate.
Another way would be to send your visitor to a page on your site that is redirected to the external site automatically. That way you can still track it.

Hi Mario
Just found your post after posting a similar / related question (mine has to do with tracking click-throughs from within a secure zone)
Am interested in your statement
'Another way would be to send your visitor to a page on your site that is redirected to the external site automatically. That way you can still track it'
Could you explain exactly how to track using page-redirects?
Many thanks
Maggie

  • Building Links to external sites

    Newbie question:
When making a link to an external site, how do you keep your
own page on the desktop. The default mode loads the external page
but does not preserve your page.
    Thank you.

Make the link have a target of "_blank", e.g.,
    <a href=''
    http://www.example.com"
    target="_blank">
and it will open in a new window. Note that the target
    attribute is
deprecated, and its use will cause a page with a strict
    doctype to fail
    validation.

  • Link to external site

    Hi,
I have a table with one of the column containing links to an external site. This url is saved in the database.
On clicking the link I want the user to be taken to that site in a new window.
Please let me know the standard way in OAFramework.
    Thank you,
    Arun

    Hi,
Thank you for the reply. I tried this earlier, but the link from the db is an absolute URL and having {@urlfromdb} opens a window with the following url
    http://oaappserveraddress/OAHTML/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fig
In the above case, the url happens to be http://www.google.com/ig
This url is not a constant and each holds a different url pointing to external and other internal portals.
    I have two things:
    1. to open the url in a new window without the base url of the OA App.
    2. to avoid the encoding that happens (notice the %3A%2F in place of ://)
Your help is appreciated very much
    Thank you,
    Arun

  • Using iWeb, links to external sites revert to the apple site.

I have been wrestling with this for 2 weeks.  Even the apple help desk can not sort this out and I have tried all suggestions from the apple support communities so far.  When I try to link my web site to LinkedIn, it reverts to apple.live web site.  I am going out of my mind trying to fix this.  Does anyone have the solution??
    Tony

Delete the link and try the following:
    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home()/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Links to external sites not working in PDF on iPad

I have put a PDF on my server, it has internal and external links.
Most people will download it and view it on their own computers using Adobe Reader.
I was asked to check how it worked on eBooks.
On my Kindle software, (on the Mac) it worked fine.
On iPad, Safari did not let it download so I am viewing it through the iPad's Safari browser. The internal links from page to page work, but the external links to urls do not. The address, when I click the link, adds in my own server url first, then the url I want, eg www.myserver.com/http://www.theserveriwant.com
    1) Is there a way to get iPad's Safari to download the pdf that I am missing? I am used to an automatic download on my computer. In that case, I could probably use Adobe Reader for iOS.
    2) Is there a way to make the links work properly, some preferences or something to set?
    iPad G4, iOS 5.1
    Thanks so much.

  • Link to external sites through images

Hy, I'm a Mac newbee. I have to say, why haven't I start sooner.
I try to insert hyperlinks to other websites linked through images I want users to click on.
What is strange is that some of them work fine, others I simply can't get to work. Anyone else experienced this behavior? What can be done?
    http://www.gijsen-hendrickx.be/noorwegen
It are the brand logo's (Abu garcia, Penn, ... ) There are more logo's in the blog area on the pure fishing topic.
    Many thanks for help here.

Ok, it's a bit clearer. When doing the Layout view, I can see that there are a nbr of "squares" where my text is in. The images (all of them) don't have these squares around them. When I push my apple/command key (to make sure, this is the one just beside the space bar ?) and I try to move the images, I can't.
What I've seen is that there are some fine lines just underneath my navigation bar and and just above the "next" and "back" button on the bottom. (Old Toad) already mentioned this.
About the browser and Iweb. I know that it isn't a browser. What I meant was that if you click on one of the links in iWeb (even accidentically), the work, and they take you to the preconfigured link in Safari.
I there a way I can share the blog page i nquestion so one of you experienced guys could take a look what's wrong?

  • Firefox 4 will automatically open links on certain sites without clicking.

On certain sites, most notably Gmail, Firefox 4 will open a link in a new tab without clicking. If I open an email message that contains a link to an address, Firefox will automatically open a new tab with this address in Google Maps.
I have also noticed it on a couple of other sites, though where exactly escapes me at the moment.
Any ideas how to stop this?

Yes. This is very annoying. I use Gmail and same thing happens to me too! Also happens with youtube and picasa links. I have not found a cause or a solution to this so far.

  • Tracking links to other sites

I would like to track how many times users of my site are clicking links that send them to other web sites.  I use Google Analytics but it is not a part of it.  I know that some people add code to their links for tracking the clicks.
    Thanks.
    S. Houtzager

This could be logged by linking to an intermediate page on your own site.
For example (if your server supports PHP), you could link to http://www.yourownsite.com/jump.php?url=http://www.facebook.com instead of a direct link to http://www.facebook.com
Then make a PHP file on your server called "jump.php".
    <?php
    header("Location: $_GET[url]");
// OPTIONAL: you could have PHP write your own log file here
// if not using GoogleAnalytics or your server's own logging/reporting
    exit;
    ?>

  • Adobe Muse | External link to Etsy site | Using original URL

    Hi everyone,
    I have 2 questions:
01: how to create a link to an etsy online shop
    02: URL appearance
01 –> I am done with my website so far and now I want to put a link to my external online shop at ETSY. I also have an online shop at "DaWanda" and that link works just fine. But the link from ETSY isn´t working. I tried many times, copying and stuff. Still it doens´t go to the ETSY site. What could be wrong here?
02 –> And I want that the original URL of the online shop (www.etsy...onlineshop.com) will show up in the browser. But it still shows the URL of my own homepage insted of the ESTY or DaWanda Onlineshop. How can I change that?
Or is that based on my adjustments of my webhost? Because I made the following adjustments:
The real URL (for example: www.myhomepage-hostingcompany.com) of my homepage doesn´t show up in the browser (when you visit my website) because I´m hiding the part "hostingcompany" and you can only see "www.myhomepage.com"
Maybe because of this adjustment at my hosting service (the "hiding option") the online shop URL doesn´t show up either. Is that the reason?
    Best regards, Fries

    Hi Fries
As you have mentioned you are linking to external site but its not working, how exactly you have linked ? something like "Buy Product" which is linked to external site where Online shop is configured ?
Regarding the URL, the purchase process will show the url of the site it is configured while shopping/Order process, if you want to change this then you would need to do this from your hosting end as you would need to use a redirect link from shopping back to your site. Please get in touch with your hosting provider for more information.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Image Links To Other Sites

I have designed a website in DW CS3 and i wanted to make some
of my images link to other external sites......however when write

comes back with a blank web page with - cannot find URL - on

As tweaked suggests, the links to external sites should look
    like this -
    <a href="
    http://www.example.com/thepage.html''....
A valid external link must specify the protocol and the

My photographer wife just posted her brand new Flash site.

But, we just noticed that other specialist sites linked to
