Track Pad 4 Finger Swipe

I tried switching between applications but to no avail, the application won't open. Can somebody tell me how to fix this?

Apple () --> System Preference --> Trackpad. Options are here.
With the heads-up view (four-finger swipe) you can either tab between apps are mouse and click to activate. Command-Q for quiting, tab-shift for reverse direction.
