Track pad behaves erratically

trackpad moves on its own plug in a usb mouse it acts worse reset pram smc nothing  help

I would suggest contacting the wireless carrier or retailer you bought the phone from and insist on a new replacement.  You have only had the blackberry for a short period of time and the trackpad should not be an issue.

  • Macbook Pro (mid 2012) inbuilt Track pad behaving erratically after fresh install of Yosemite 10.10.2

I recently did a fresh install of the OS from online recovery. Mountain Lion was installed which I immediately upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2. The trackpad started behaving erratically after two days. I seems that it started since I plugged one of my wifi router on the lan port. The trackpad is impossible to move as it seems to have a mind of its own. An external mouse connected works fine. Any help please !

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • HT203171 Track pad is erratic, sometimes scrolling without touching the pad. Also highlighting chunks of my Thesis with the touch of a finger. Frustrating because I have accidentally deleted during this out of control mechanism with the track pad.

My Mac Book Air has developed an erratic process with the track pad. Sometimes the page scrolls without touching the pad, great chunks of my Thesis can be highlighted and sometimes I delete without realising. Does anyone else have this problem. The Tech wants to replace my track pad today, not sure what to do?

  • Anyway to change how the track pad behaves on Yoga 13?

    Hi
I just bought a Yoga 13 and while I can change the speed the mouse moves is there anyway I can change:
    1) the speed the track pad scrolls a page?
    2) can I change the direction the page moves when I move my hand?
ON the pad when I swipe downward the the page moves upward ?
Is there anyway to make it to where I can swipe down and have the page move down?
The pads I use at work work that way and its far more natural to me that way
    Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The're all in Control Panel>Mouse>Device Settings>Settings
Turn off Ënable Reverse Scrolling and you can adjust the scroll speed in the same place

  • Erratic cursor and track pad when using 220v on MBA

    Hello
I am travelling in Europe with my MBA, and I have noticed that when it is plugged into a 220v outlet the whole case has a slight electric charge (and a very slight vibration), this apparently makes the track pad very erratic, with the cursor jumping all over when I try to move it.  I have resorted to unplugging the MBA when I want to use.
    Any thoughts/solutions on this?
    Thank you,
    Peter

3 prong grounded extension cord may help.
    Best.

  • Track pad is going crazy

I have been using track pad for my iMac for several years, but just recently, it has been going crazy by operating erratically so it's no longer usable. I looked up the apple community and I am not the only one. Also, there seems to be no solution posted. Should we just expect the life cycle of track pad to be just couple of years?

I went into the Apple store and explained the problems with the track pad. I also asked the employee to connect my track pad to the new iMac on display. My track pad behaved erractically as usual and the guy spoke with the one of the Genius' at the bar and they told me they would repalce the track pad as one time thing. This is why Apple is so awesome. I can not think of any other company that would do this after the warranty period is over. Thanks Apple!

  • OS X 4.6 - Erratic Track Pad

Just installed OS 10.4.6 on my four macs. I had no problems except my 15" Alum. PowerBook G4 (1.5 ghz, 1 gb Ram) where my track pad has become very erratic to the point of not being useful. The cursor movement is very erratic. Yet the cursor moves smoothly when I use a USB mouse.
Rebuilt permissions several times including using the original OS 10.4.3 disc. All to no avail.
By the way, the update went without a problem on my iBook (1.33 ghz, 1 gb Ram).
    Any suggestions?

I have read that after updating, you should only repair permissions from the desktop disk utility, not the original install disk.
Try disk utility>Repair Disk from the install disk.

  • Erratic track pad pointer.

Hi new to the community. First post. I have a 2012 Macbook Pro (15 inch). I am running OS X Yosemite. For no reason at all, all of a sudden the track pad arrow is erratic and highlights words and gives the dictionary definition, moves the pages around and is driving me nuts! I am not a computer geek. I just want it to work. Any suggestions?

  • Track pad responsive at first then erratic

18 month old 16 inch macbook pro.  Track pad responsive when computer first turned on then after a few minutes track pad erratic and unresponsive.  Cursor floats, stubborn movement.  When external mouse plugged in, all works fine.  How much does it cost to replace track pad?   Any first aid tips?

It could also be a swollen battery, that is pushing at the trackpad. By the way, Apple has no 16" MBP.

  • Cursor and the track pad are acting erratically.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2012).  Currently have Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) install. My cursor and the track pad are acting erratically.  Any suggestions.  Google wasn't a great help.

    Replace your MacBook's battery ASAP.

  • Track pad suddengly starts behaving strange :/

    Hi
Today i went to use my MBP and noticed that my left click suddenly behaved weird., like i normally click and choose, hold it down and drag, but today it was dragging, even clicking and dragging while i moved the pointer by itself, its annoying, it removed things from the finder bar, it randomly clicks and drags while i move the mouse pointer, im on a iMac posting this, my MBP is useless,
i tried checking the preferences to make sure i did not have any settings that allowed this and they are the same, i even created a new user to see if maybe my use got corrupted over night, same thing on that use, it is as if the track pad randomly licks when i move it.

Does regular left click function properly? It sounds as if your trackpad may be stuck in the activated (clicked) position.
For starters, you can try resetting your SMC. The SMC, among other things, deals with trackpad control:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
Just be sure to follow the instructions for your specific machine as they vary from model to model.
It does sound like your problem may just require that your trackpad be adjusted. The trackpad is adjustable.:

  • Tracker pad erratic since 10.9.3 update

I notice that I am not alone in posting this message, but the Apple responses still appear to point to issues other than their software update. This is definitely a software failure, as it is possible to clear it temporarily with various software activities. It is directly related to the software update I recently received. Could Apple please acknowledge this quickly and resolve the faulty software they are distributing? The trackpad is a fundamental part of the user interface for this machine.

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    3. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and the unit needs to be serviced or replaced.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Mac book pro trackpad and arrow keys behaving erratically

    Hi,
Over the past few months I've noticed my track pad and arrow keys not working as they should and the problem has been getting worse until a few days ago the trackpad stopped working all together only for it to come back to life for a few hours then get worse again.
    Symptoms:
The cursor keep sticking, you can't drag it smoothly across the screen. It'll suddenly jump to the top of the screen or you can only move it left and right not up and down.
The main click stops working, it'll turn into a right click button so everytime you click I get a sub menu pop up.
When I use the arrow keys to navigate a sub menu the highlight jumps around as if it's possesd.
Sometimes I'm not touching anything and the cursor will move on it's own!?!
I've tried resetting the PRAM but it doesn't work. Everytime I restart the mac book it works fine for a little while then gets worse again.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what's wrong with it?
    Thanks
    Chris

The possible cause could be your List is too lengthy. What you can do is don't refresh the list when they press the key down but put a Button beside. Once they selected the value in the dropdown then hey click the Button to get whatever needed.

    chanmm
Thanks - how would I do that?
I am thinking that another possibility is the FirstOrDefault
command that runs in the FocusItem method. I think that it is causing any arrow key (up/down) interaction to behave erratically, but I don't know what to use in its place.
