Track pad button automatically/randomly left clicking.

I have a T61P and from the first day I got it the left-click button on the track pad (not the button for the red track pointer) would automatically click but only at random.  The button isn't stuck and it generally happens about every 10 to 20 minutes.  I have already upgraded the all the driver software.  Is there anything else I can try before calling the service tech??  Thanks.  -Ray

  • Track pad buttons won't work

My track pad buttons on Mac Book Pro will not work.  Can move cursor using the track pad, but when I click on the buttons nothing happens

I suggest deleting the preference file for the trackpad - it may have become corrupted. Heres how:
    Home Folder>Library Folder>Preferences Folder>com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.ytrackpad.plist
    Delete: com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.ytrackpad.plist
If this doesn't resolve the issue, I wonder if you are using a third-party trackball or mouse, the driver for that hardware might also be helping to make stuff wonky- Make sure you are using the latest version of drivers for third-party stuff and that the hardware is in fact compatible with your system.
    Hope this helps! :-)

  • My track pad seems to have lost its strong "click" feel. Is this wear and tear or is there some way I can adjust it to feel the "click" more?

downgrading is not supported by Apple and doing so has the potential to brick your device. so, you can't. if you have feed back for the new iOS you can provide that here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Mine does it all of the time when I try to command click a link on a page to open in a new tab and also when I try to close a tab that I had opened I thought at first it was my thumb sitting on the pad as on my mbp 17 I kept my thumb on the button and I have trained my self not to leave my thumb at the bottom I know no other part of my hand is touching the pad. I think the sensors are not as calibrated as they need to be we need more fine tuning in the sys prefs for the track pad.

  • Track Pad Button

Anyone else having issues where your trackpad button on the alu macbook doesn’t respond on the first click? Sometimes I have to click my 2 or 3 times then it is fine for awhile but when it goes idle it takes a bit to get it going.
I search for this and did not find it. Thanks!

  • MBP Track Pad Button Thinks I'm Still Touching It (How to disable?)

So once again I have another issue with my macbook pro. I'm long out of warranty and I don't have applecare. I already took it to apple to get an estimate of how much it would cost to just replace the whole topcase...$300 (for a stupid trackpad button).
They said its the only way but I want to be entirely sure in case he had no idea what he was talking about.
    Here is the issue:
I saw on some threads where other experienced similar issues but were under warranty and got lucky and were able to have it repaired.
The trackpad works perfectly fine. The button however thinks you are stilling pressing on it. If I click once and move the cursor the begins highlighting when im obviously not holding the button down (Don't bother telling me to disable dragging in the trackpad options that isn't the issue). It will keep on doing this after I keep on pressing the button 5 more times, and after clicking it when it has gone away it comes back.
You can tap on the trackpad and that will work perfectly fine, and honestly I can live without the button. However, even if I don't touch the button it is still recognizing something clicking the button and begins to interfere with whatever im doing with the touch pad.
This brings me to my next point, if repairing the button is going to blow a hole in my wallet, is there a way to disable the input from the button completely. I can just live with tapping on the touch pad. Is there some software that allows me to program the computer to ignore the button or is there some wires i can cut? Even if it is something as ghetto as jamming the button with an object somehow, I'll do it.
PLEASE HELP I need to disable this button because I dislike using an external mouse
    Thanks in advance

hey thanks for the quick reply. I tried it and i messed around nudging the cable but it still does the same thing.
I also forgot to mention that if you press the button really hard, like quick and solid poke on the button, it tends not to drag and think I'm still holding the button. But if you tap it lightly like one normally does, it continues to "drag" whatever the cursor was on.
Could something be stuck? Apple here in the Philippines was being stubborn and told me that I'd have to give mine and it will most likely just be repaired at the cost of the $300 I mentioned above.

  • Back button opens link menu on left-click that won't go away

Recently whenever I left-click the back button, there is a drop-down menu that appears. It indicates that it is only supposed to show up if I either right-click or click and hold the left mouse button (also I have to click elsewhere to make it disappear), and it's annoying the heck out of me. How do I make it stop appearing for left-clicks?

  • Presario CQ42 Mute Toggling Automatically/Randomly

Over the last two weeks, my Pressario CQ42 is randomly automatically toggling the mute button. I will be watching a video, and periodically the quick launch sound bar will pop-up (see attached picture), and mute will switch itself on. I can switch it back off with F10, but at some random time later it switches back to mute.  This can happen 20 times in an hour.
I have tried re-loading audio, quick launch, and touchpad drivers, and have updated to the latest BIOS. But none of these helped. I have now also noticed that the ESC, backspace, Windows, and pause keys (when pressed) also toggle the mute button. I tried to update the keyboard driver, but managed to only roll it back to a previous version, but the problem remains.
I have run virus and malware scans, and the system is clean.
I have checked forums, but cannot find anyone who has posted this problem before.
Please help if you can. Thanks.

  • New MBA Gen 2 track pad button click problems

Anyone else seen this: the new MBA trackpad button must be clicked firmly and almost directly in the center or it misses clicks. The previous gen MBA was not like this.
Or is it just my unit?

    Hi Edmund,
I received my MBA Gen 2 (1.86 GHz, 128 Gb SSD) last Friday (here in Japan) and over the course of the evening and early on into the next morning, I clearly noticed that sometimes (5 to 10%) when clicking the actually clicker button (that thin tab which is mechanical clicker and not the trackpad clicker which can be enabled through the sys prefs), it did not respond.
This MBA Gen 2 is replacing a 5 yr old 12 inch Powerbook. Switching from the powerbook to the mba, I can clearly tell that the clicker on my MBA is a bit dodgy. In my case, the weakness seems to be to the right of center of the clicker. But then again, I'm always clicking in that area anyways, not sure if it's any better on the left or center. If I click really hard, there's no problem, but if you click lightly, it just doesn't always react, even though it has definitely "clicked".
I called Apple Japan last Saturday and explained that this had been a problem "out of the box". Without any quibbles, they informed me that a new MBA would be ordered for me and that when it arrived, I would just have exchange the old one for the new. Only problem is, they said the delivery times are now around 2 to 3 weeks. Still, I'd rather try to get one that doesn't have this problem than not.
As they say, misery loves company, so hope this helps.

  • W520 - touch pad left click issue

Earlier today my left touch pad mouse click started to stop functioning correctly. It will only work correctly every 8 to 15 times it is clicked leaving it unresponsive and unpredictable. The right works perfectly fine as do the trackpad buttons. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and have sprayed compressed air under the key.
I had a similar problem with the laptop when i first got it but at that time the touch pad itself as well as the left click did not function properly. The face plate was replaced which fixed the issue.
Is there anything i can do software wise that might fix the problem before i have to pay to fix the hardware?

    Hi Tony
If the unit is not the old one you should contact your local dealer or maybe Toshiba service partner in your country. Your unit has a valid warranty and you can ask them if there is a possibility to do something about that.

  • Light tap the track pad to simulate clicking

I'm coming from the MS Windows laptop. I noticed that I have to actually press the track pad (I'm not sure if that's what it's called) and simulate clicking. In the MS Windows side, I can lightly tap the track pad area and it would be a click. Is there a setting on the Mac OS X Lion or Macbook Air that would allow me to do this instead of hard pressing the trackpad for a click?

Thanks for the help, that worked. However, as I turned it on, I now realized why I was having so much problem with the MS Windows laptop trackpad; thus, they provided a way to turn off the trackpad. I realized that the problem was, if I was typing on the keyboard and my hand accidentally touch the trackpad, it moves my cursor to somewhere else and that's why in the MS Windows laptop they have a turned off trackpad button/feature. I see why this feature was turned off by default in Mac OS.

  • My track pad stopped accepting clicks.  I can move the mouse but clicks will not register.  Help!!!

My track pad stopped accepting clicks.  I can move the mouse/cursor although clicking will not register with computer.  Any suggesstions?  HELP!

If you configure the track pad to accept a double-tap = mouse click - do you still have the problem?
I had a similar problem with white MacBooks - the mouse button just wouldn't work anymore - got worn out or something. I think that may be why Apple went with the whole trackpad being the mouse button. I never use that though. I much prefer the double tap.

  • Recent firmware upgrade and track pad

I updated my computer today with the recent firmware update.
Now my track pad button has become extremely unresponsive. I have to click the button three, four and five times before I get a response.
Has anyone else noticed this problem?

    Hi -- I haven't seen that effect.
