Track pad has died :(

Hello all,
iBook G3 700Mhz, all of a sudden my track pad has died, I have tried to a shut down, and restart, nothing, is there a fix for this or do I need to bring it in for some repairs?
Thanks for the help.
Doug

Hi Doug,
I've had a dead trackpad on my iBook for a couple of years. Zapping the PMU did no good on my machine, so I now use a portable Logitech mouse instead. I read on a few discussion boards that the problem with a dead trackpad is sometimes caused by a loose connection between the trackpad and the logic board, so I guess you could open up the case or take the iBook to a repair shop if you don't want to switch to a mouse like I did (I figured it was a much cheaper solution). Sorry I can't offer more help.

  • My old original i-pad has died and is no longer re-chargable either. Please help.

My I-Pad has died. Will no longer accept a charge and the screen is blank. It was working fine until recently. It seems as though when I updated my i-phone 4S, my I-pad no longer working. Odd? Yes, but true. Please help if you know anything about this. It is the original I-Pad # 1 . I cannot afford a new one right now.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • My Track pad has lost it's mechanical click, does anyone know a solution?

My Track Pad on my MBA has lost it's Mechanical Click, does anyone have a solution?

Debris is stuck in the mechanism, or the battery is expanding and has to be replaced.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • The track pad has suddenly stopped dragging.

I have a macbook pro with snow leopard. I am no longer able to select a file in finder with one finger while dragging with the other. I found this an essential manouvre with moving windows around and moving columns etc in Finder. I am wondering if it is to do with a software update. I have tried playing with different options on the systems preference track pad area but no luck there. I have tried the usual restarting etc. All other track pad functions are as normal I think but not being able to drag items is really annoying so I have to use a mouse now which is not my preference.
I have searched through the communities but can't seem to find anything exactly matching my problem or any solutions which work.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Regards
    Steven

This is likely to be caused by an extension, try the procedure in the [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.

  • Track pad has a bubble under it

I recently took my MacBook Air with me on a trip, it was in a case the whole time taken care of.  I got in my car this morning and took it to work with me got it all plugged in and ready to use, then left for a few hours to do some other stuff, when I got back there is a huge bubble underneath the track pad and my left click wont work.  What is going on?

I got back there is a huge bubble underneath the track pad
DO NOT use it  Your lithium cell is likely swollen and impinging on the trackpad
Contact Apple for in shop diagnostic and likely repair
Did you leave in a hot car or something?  Or have been doing so, or in a very cold car?
Again, though you may want to,... do NOT use your Air, turn it on, etc.

  • Magic Track Pad disconnecting after upgrading to Maverick

My magic track pad has worked flawlessly since purchased with my iMac in 2011. After upgrading to Mavericks it now randomly disconnects and is scrolling in reverse. In order to get it working all I need do is turn on the mouse and when it connects, then the magic track pad reconnects. Why it will only reconnect after doing that, I have no idea ? The new reverse scrolling action is also a mystery. Help please !

    Hello Frank,
It can be difficult to accomplish much if your Magic Trackpad does not stay connected.  I found an article with steps you can take when you have issues with a Bluetooth device not connecting.  I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the following article:

  • Tracker Pad Not Working

My tracker pad has stopped working.  I've changed the batteries twice to no gain.  The indicator light isn't opereating.  Its 18 months old and up until now I've had no problems.  Could anyone advise if this is a common problem, is there a fix or do I need to consign the pad to the bin?  Many thanks

If you have some Isoprope Alchohol, remove the batts and clean the contacts. You might need to tether a cotton bud (cue tip) to something longer to get at em)...
If you dont have that, use newprint paper.. Not the smooth BOND paper.. but the newsprint, its slightly abrasive and might do the trick.

  • OS X 4.6 - Erratic Track Pad

Just installed OS 10.4.6 on my four macs. I had no problems except my 15" Alum. PowerBook G4 (1.5 ghz, 1 gb Ram) where my track pad has become very erratic to the point of not being useful. The cursor movement is very erratic. Yet the cursor moves smoothly when I use a USB mouse.
Rebuilt permissions several times including using the original OS 10.4.3 disc. All to no avail.
By the way, the update went without a problem on my iBook (1.33 ghz, 1 gb Ram).
    Any suggestions?

I have read that after updating, you should only repair permissions from the desktop disk utility, not the original install disk.
Try disk utility>Repair Disk from the install disk.

  • Track pad not sensitive enough

My Macbook alum has been working well for the last year or two. Within the last couple months, the track pad has become increasingly less sensitive...clicking on it does not always invoke a selection as intended even when a clear click sound is heard. I find i need to click much harder than standard use to get it to respond.
I checked the control panel and played around with the settings several times with no improvement.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem, clicking with the track pad became unbearably bad, it wasn't sensitive at all.
I found that if you take off the bottom and remove the battery on the track pad there is a screw, its a triangle shape.
Tightening that screw raised the trackpad (slightly, don't over do it) and by tightening that screw the trackpad's clicking came back to normal.
Free fix, worth a shot. Don't strip the screw though...

  • Slow/unresponsive track pad on Macbook Air

    Hi,
I bought my Macbook Air just last week and it's been great until last night. We've upgraded our broadband and (it seems) since connecting it to the new WiFi network the track pad has totally slowed down, even when no programs are open. It's the same on my account, and my husband's. I've checked our memory, there's plenty of free space and I've tried changing the speed via System Preferences. It just seems to get stuck, though clicking is fine.
As it's so new I'm happy to restore the system (if anyone thinks that will help) but I got a bit lost when I tried to do it through Disk Utility. I'm not new to Apple products and I know more than my husband - but I'm no technical expert!!
Any advice will be gratefully received - I have the 2012 version, running on OSX 10.8.4 - If you need any more info I'll try to answer!!
    Thanks in advance

  • Track Pad not working properly after upgrade to OS10 Yosemite

Since upgrade to OS10 Yosemite, my stand-alone Apple Track Pad has lost the ability to "double-tap select and drag."  Only the three finger drag works now.  My Apple Track Pad is paired to an early 2009 iMac 24".  How I can restore the "double-tap select and drag" functionality?  Any clues much appreciated.

Ralph, thanks for the quick reply.  All of the Trackpad preference boxes are checked for "Point & Click" except "Three finger drag."  Once "Three finger drag" is checked, this action spawns a simultaneous action in the Trackpad "More Gestures" area that changes the gesture for Mission Control from "three finger swipe up" to "four finger swipe up."
Since I am having this problem on an early 2009 iMac, I decided to check-out my 2013 MBPr for the same behavior.  Amazingly, all was working well with the built-in trackpad functionality regarding the "double-tap select and drag" until i checked and then un-checked the "Three finger drag" box (in Trackpad preference > point & click).  Now my "double-tap select and drag" is BROKEN on my 2013 MBPR.
