Track Pad help!!
I recently used a Microsoft wireless mouse for an hour and now my track pad is not working properly. I have to push it very hard and multiple times in order to click on something. Help!
delete the drivers for the mouse you used or restart your computer. or do both in said order.

Is there anyway to change the settings on the trackpad so that a two finger tap on a link, opens it in a new tab?
Also, is there anyway to make the two finger scrolling more responsive? Its good but isnt up to par with that of the macbooks.

on the part of two finger tap to open a link, currently that is not available.
for the scrolling, i suggest looking through the UltraNav settings and play around within.

I got my Mac Book Pro repaired in late July of this year. The repair summary says that they replaced the display claim shell, glossy (item number 620-5153). I believe this was due to a clouding on my screen. However, they also replaced the top case with keyboard (item number 605-2953) and the track pad (605-2712). When I took it in I was having problems with the track pad. It would not respond to touch. Wouldn't follow my figure movements, ect. The guy at the Apple Store took it in the back and opened it up. He said it looked like there may be water damage because there was gooey stuff by the battery, so in that case the warranty would be void. I told him that I was 100% certain that no water ever got on it and that if there is gooey stuff in side my macbook that there must be a battery leaking issue. He said that they would have to send it in and the people at the repair center would determine if it had been water damaged or not.
Well, they sent it in to the repair center in Florida (leaving me with out a computer for a week at summer school) and they made the before mentioned repairs. They never asked me questions or anything so I am assuming that meant they rightfully determined there was no water damage.
Aside from some wireless issues the Mac Book had been working okay until tonight. I was typing a paper and all of a sudden the track pad problem came back tonight. I tired to use the computer with the broken trackpad for about 45 minuets but then gave up because it was impossible to use. I shut off the computer and left it off for a good 3 hours before plugging it back in and turning it on. (I tried turning the computer off and then back on again when the problem first occurred and that did not help). I have noticed recently (like the past week) that sometimes it gets way louder then it used to and the last couple of it will randomly will turn off when it still has battery left. Also, ever since I got my mac book pro back from the repair center Microsoft Word crashes once every 2ish days, but I am unsure if that is related to the current issue.
As I am typing this the touch pad is getting touchy again :(. And as I type it is randomly switching lines so I think the touch pad is being extra sensitive now, Im not sure. Anyway does anyone have any advice? I am in my first year of law school and I NEED MY COMPUTER. It is not an option not to have one for a few days and if I absolutely have to give it to apple I will be forced to buy a cheap computer from Walmart to use in the mean time (Which I REALLY cannot afford).
I am assuming it is the battery pushing of the trackpad or something. Is this correct? I have an appointment with Apple tomorrow but since it is somewhat functioning right now I am unsure of if I should go or not. The store is 45 minuets away and I need it during class each day. But exams are in a month and I cant have it break during those.
I really do not see why Apple would not have replaced the battery when I first brought it in. I identified it as an issue; I am sure someone who works on these computers all day long could have seen it was an issue too. At least, if my assumption that that is the problem is correct. Would getting a mouse that plugs into the USB fix my problems? Or would Apple be willing to just give me a replacement computer since this is the second time this has happened in 2 months and their 1st repair didn’t help? By keeping all of your important documents in the Dropbox folder on your computer, you have instant access to them from any other computer (or iPad), should you be w/o your computer while in for repairs (or if, God forbid, it is stolen). It's free for 2 GB of online storage, which is more than enough for a few years worth of Word documents, etc. (If you get other people to sign up via your email "invitation", then Dropbox gives you even more free storage space.) Every time you close a document, it is updated on the Dropbox servers (encrypted), if it is in the Dropbox folder (assuming you give it a few seconds to update before turning off your computer). Do a google search of "Cloud based storage comparisons" to compare the amount of free space each of the competing services give you.

Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?
To be specific. I have the imac late 2013 model, and i just bought the trackpad this October 2014. I have been using magic mouse without any problem. I just want to have a new experience with the trackpad. Any time i on my imac, i will have a normal screen with my picture and a guest column at the center. I need to click either my picture or the guest in order to have the space where i can key in my password with the keyboard. But unfortunately, my trackpad will show that it is connected and the cursor will be moving in front of the screen if i touch the trackpad, but if i try to click, i will get no response. I have to put back batteries inside my magic mouse and then click on my picture if i want to log in with my id or i click on the guest image if i want to log in as a guest. it is only after this that my trackpad will start responding.
i want to use only trackpad for now so as to be more efficient with it. I don't want to be putting back batteries inside the magic mouse only to on my imac. I need a solution please.
Thanks.It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

If you are having intermittent but persistent responsiveness issues with your mouse or trackpad, you may want to try using Activity Monitor to see if these incidents correspond to occupied system resources, especially system memory or CPU. If the entire system hangs or locks up (for example, if the system clock freezes and stops counting up), you may also be experiencing some variety of Kernel Panic. If that is the case, you may also find this article useful:

Track pad wont click and drag help?
this may not be the right place but for some reason my track pad just randomly quit working when it comes to click and drag. i updated the software because i read one correct this issue but its still happening. can anyone help? do i need to take it to a mac store?

I see that your location is on the list. It's possible that you could contact Apple directly and be referred to an Apple Authorized Service Provider who could diagnose what is wrong.
In the meantime, you could always make a good backup and then reinstall the OS from disc and see if this cures the problem.
If you really feel this is software rather than hardware, it might be worth posting your question in the Snow Leopard forum where all the software experts are. It may be a simple matter of trashing a .plist or something like that.

that is not normal. Take it to Apple or an AASP and have them evaluate you mac.

Help: My track pad sometimes doesn't work.
I was on a plane, and a diet soda exploded on me. A little bit got on my MBP. Nothing got on the keyboard at all, but some did get on the trackpad. I wiped it up as soon as I could, but after that the track pad acted real funky. I shut it down, and booted it up about 3 hours later, and sometimes the track pad would work just fine, and then other times it would go crazy, not be responsive, and navigate all kinds of places whenever I touched it a little bit.
I shut the laptop down for a day, and came back to it, and it is still incredibly inconsistent. Help.You need to take it into your local Apple Store and just pay for the repair. Spills are not covered under your warranty and there are liquid contact indicators in your MBP which will let Apple know that you had a spill.

when you say that your disc drive is damaged, do you mean your MacBook Pro’s hard disk drive, or do you mean its SuperDrive (the CD/DVD drive)?
When you’d updated your MacBook Pro to Mavericks, did the installation succeed, and subsequently freeze up? Or did it freeze up during the Mavericks installation?
Which version of OS X was installed on your MacBook Pro before you’d installed Mavericks?
Are you currently able to boot into the Mavericks recovery partition? To see if you can do so, hold down a Command key and the R key while starting up your MacBook Pro. -

If you configure the track pad to accept a double-tap = mouse click - do you still have the problem?
I had a similar problem with white MacBooks - the mouse button just wouldn't work anymore - got worn out or something. I think that may be why Apple went with the whole trackpad being the mouse button. I never use that though. I much prefer the double tap. -
My track pad stopped working with a single finger/double click when I try to open emails, and when I try to open apps on desk top. If I use two fingers, and then click open, I can open them. Thank You for your help.

Pull the battery out with the device ON. Wait about a minute and put the battery back in. Let the BB completely restart and see if that doesn't help. Clears out the memory and refreshes the BB; like rebooting your pc.
When you have anomalous behavior in your BB a battery pull often helps to clear it up too.
