Track pad used to work...not anymore

I have a mbp original and after installing xp the track pad used to work great but after I tried to upgrade the driver it stopped working. I reinstalled the leopard part then updated boot camp but it still dosent work, Is there a solution to this issue? Now in order for me to use xp I have to use a mouse and thats a pain, any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks

Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Track pad driver. It should be listed under "Human Interface Devices". Then you should restart and install the Driver from the Bootcamp CD (The older on).
Sometimes just overwriting of Driver doesn't work so always remember : For best possible result, uninstall the old driver and only then Install the new one.
Hope that helps.

  • Why printing from Maverick towards a 1.4.x CUPS running on RedHat won't work? Used to work, not anymore once upg to Maverick

    Hello everyone,
Recently upgraded to Maverick just to discover that we can no longer print to CUPS. We have the following config
    Maverick --> CUPS 1.4 (RHEL 6.x) (RAW Queue) --> Lexmark 460dn
                  ^ ^
    Windows_______| |
                    |
    Linux WS _______|
Both windows and Linux can still print through CUPS and so do a bunch of Mountain Lions or even older OSX installs. Maverick though will put the printer into an endless gibberish print mode (gotta reset the printer). Tried deleting and adding the printer again; bringing in the latest drivers from Lexmark; install a new generic printer, both PS and PCL; install from the CUPS web interface; install a different CUPS 1.5 on a different Linux box and share the very same printer; neither made any difference.
Hooking Maverick directly via USB will print and the CUPS 1.4 acts just a simple "pass the buck" because of the RAW queue definition, so anybody with a hint?

I have a similar problem, using an HP Laserjet 1100, attached to a networked Windows XP machine .
When looking at the cups log, I found the following problems ( put in bold )
in the /private/etc/cupds.conf file, related to this printer :
1 Unknown directive BrowseOrder on line 7
2 Unknown directive BrowseAllow on line  8
3 Missing value for BrowseRemoteProtocols on line 120
4 Unknown directive BrowseAddress on line  121
Could it be that the installation of Mavericks did cause these problems?
Any suggestion for solution would be very welcome.

    Hi Buterem,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your MacBook Pro since your recent Yosemite update. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having intermittent but persistent responsiveness issues with your mouse or trackpad, you may want to try using Activity Monitor to see if these incidents correspond to occupied system resources, especially system memory or CPU. You may find the following article helpful:

If the entire system hangs or locks up (for example, if the system clock freezes and stops counting up), you may also be experiencing some variety of Kernel Panic. If that is the case, you may also find this article useful:

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1232nr keyboard and track pad no longer work

We purchased our lap top 1-11-09 and have had to already replace the battery in the summer of 2010 and then in October the entire system stopped responding, after determining it was not due to a virus, working with Norton/Comcast, I took  the to a  computer repair shop 11-29-10 and the technician said that the mouse/track pad and keyboard were not working and would need to be replaced as they no longer were responding, he said this was a common occurrence with HP laptops. He suggested I try to use a plug in mouse and keyboard so that I could use the computer temporarily until I contacted HP about this, I have plugged in a key board and mouse but the computer is still unresponsive. I am very upset about spending $600 plus 7.75% tax on a product less than 2 years ago that appears to be defective and I would like to hear from your consumer affairs department or from someone that handles issues such as this. I need my computer for work/school/ personal use and have had to borrow a computer for the time being as I can not afford a new one and think its ridiculous to have to pay for the parts an labor to replace the defective mouse/track pad and keyboard.

This is a user to user forum, its out of warranty, HP will do nothing for you unfortunately.
I suggest you back up your personal data to an external drive and use the HP recovery to completely reinstall the OS and drivers, see if this cures it.

    Hi Karen,
The means that iTunes can no longer locate the songs (mp3/m4a) on the hard-drive and as such they won't even play in iTunes, let alone transfer to your iPod.
Have you recently re-organised your music folders? If you know where these songs are on your hard-drive then you could clear all of the tracks that display the symbol from iTunes and then add them again from their location either through the 'add folders to library' function or by dragging and dropping them diectly into iTunes from Windows Explorer.

My track pad scrolls but will not click any ideas ?

If when pushing down neaer the bottom of the trackpad you can't get it to click and you don't hear an audible sound and feel it click then the trackpad has something stuck under it or it has failed. You'll need to take it in to an Apple store to have the trackpad replaced or removed and cleaned if that is possible.

  • Two Finger Scrolling using track pad doesn't work.

You know how you can drag 2 fingers down the track pad to sroll down a page. Well, it doesn't work for me using Vista through Boot Camp. I tried the update, but it wouldn't install.
Is this as good as it gets?
    Hypnoguy

    Hypnoguy,
Sorry I haven't used boot camp for a long time my memory is a little fuzzy. Also note I used it with XP and not Vista, but don't use it at the moment anymore.
Here is a list of Supported Macs for 64-bit windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
As per your trackpad problems after the drives have been installed I would try to install the update again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3336
Here are the boot camp updates and also may help with errors:
    64 bit: http://support.apple.com/downloads/BootCamp_Update_2_1_for_Windows_Vista64
    32 bit: http://support.apple.com/downloads/BootCamp_Update_2_1_for_Windows_Vista32
Also I would look in the boot camp system tray tool to see if there are settings related to your function keys.
Sorry I don't know of a function key that changes the startup volume, I only know of the select from the boot camp system tray (Windows)/Startup disk preference pane (Mac) or the hold option during startup. More on that here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11892.html
A good place to find a lot of Bootcamp support would be here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
    Hope that helps,

  • Track pad and button click not working

I have a Macbook pro from 2008, the 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4gigs ram. Recently my computer's track pad mouse stopped clicking and the tap to click function isnt working either. I can move the mouse with the trackpad and the scroll/zoom functions still work. Every once in a while the click will register, but the unclick will never happen, i.e. I will be highlighting everything on a page and wont be able to unhighlight unless i have the external mouse. When I scroll over the x - + of a window nothing shows up. I used a usb mouse and that worked fine, and shows the x - +. Anyone having this problem or have a solution for this problem?
    Thanks,
    -Matt

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One thing to check is the battery--there have been instances of the battery swelling and becoming deformed and exerting pressure on the trackpad from below. If this is the case, stop using the battery immediately before it does permanent damage.
Apple used to have a recall on some of these batteries, but unfortunately no more. If you have access to an Apple Store, take it in and show it to the genius bar. No guarantees, but sometimes if someone feels this should have not happened, you might be able to get a free replacement.
    Good luck!

  • Built-In track pad - one finger features not working!

I am experiencing a problem with my MacBook Pro built-in Trackpad, after upgrading to Lion, the one finger drag and highlight is not working. Only the tree fingers option is woking for drag and highlight.
I have another Macbook and the one finger drag/ highlight is woking fine after Lion upgrade
The three fingers drag and highlight is non useful, how can i enable the one finger drag/highlight?
    Any solutions please?

You can adjust the trackpad here:
System Preferences > Trackpad > Point & Click
Turn off Tap to Click this will require you to actually click the trackpad instead of just touching.
You can also adjust the Tracking Speed using the slider.
