Track "state" in Captivate 2.0

Hello Captivate Forum Members,
First - thanks for the help and good information that this
forum provides!
My question of the day is: Can I track state in captivate?
I am using Captivate 2.0.
What I mean is: I have a slide setup with 5 buttons. Each
button click takes the user to a particular slide in the
presentation. If the user clicks a button on a given slide
that "returns to the main menu" slide, is there a way to
gray-out the first button, the user has clicked? The idea
here is so the use can see which part of the tutorial
has been viewed.
Scenario - the user clicks a button, watches a presentation,
returns to main slide, click a different button, watches a
different presentation, returns to main slide, and now two buttons
are grayed out, showing which subject has been viewed so far.
thanks for any tips. I was thinking that some sort of
Javascript could be used to do this???
Thanks Again for a helpful forum,
eholz1

It's been awhile since I looked at it, but Jesse Warden's
Captivate Player might offer what you're looking for. If you're OK
with using a menu instead of buttons and breaking your sections out
into individual movies, then give it a look.
Links to a Captivate Developer Center article, documentation
and the latest version can be found at
Jesse's
website.
If you decide to use the player, be sure to grab the
documentation separately as I don't think it is included with the
latest build.

  • Track State in Project

    Hello All,
Happy New Year! I need to "track the state" of lessons in our
tutorials. What I mean by this is: I have an on-line tutorial (a
demo), it has 5 parts (lessons). I want to be able to tell/show the
user which lesson they are on, and which lesson has concluded or is
concluding. I know that captivate (3.0 here) will not track state
like a web page. I was thinking i could make a skin without
buttons, etc. but with text that says " Lesson 1 ", and then put my
app skin with-in that skin, much like your suggestion in other
topic (have a skin within a skin)

, with one skin with no borders, etc. What do you all think?
I know this could be done easily in Flash. It is too bad that
Captivate does not comfortably import into Flash (or vice versa).
Any ideas on how to do this? I know I could put a caption or button
on each slide that says "Lesson 1" etc. I am looking for nicer
    ideas,
    Thanks,

It occurred to me that there's an easier way to show slide
    count.
Captivate community contributor Paul Dewhurst offers a whole
slew of widgets for Captivate at his website. He recently created
one that shows the slide information in a custom playbar, so you
might want to check it out.
It's available at Paul's site here:

  • Setting track for a captivate course

Does anyone know if you can set up "tracks" for a captivate course in the LMS.
I have a course with a lesson that is only applicable to certain group of learners and we dont want the rest of the company to view that information.
Our LMS does have the capability to set up tracks for courses created directly in the LMS system, but I originally created the course using captivate instead.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If it is critical that one role does NOT see what the other role should see (e.g. for security reasons) then you need to have three separate versions of the course and set up your LMS to determine which role the person belongs to so that the only choice they get is the one appropriate for them.  Most LMSs allow you to configure role-based learning this way.  You add people to the roles set up in the LMS and that controls the learning options they see.
Doing what I suggested in Captivate is really just a way to have slightly personalised content for different roles inside the same project file.  But the downside is that when you get to the quiz, everyone has to do the same questions, otherwise your quiz score can never be 100%.  Then you'd need to resort to using a target for points scored instead of a percentage out of 100.

  • Button States in Captivate 7

    Hi,
This may seem like a dumb question. Trust me, I'm frustrated that I can't figure this out myself. I'm new to Captivate and I'm trying to create a button that has a rollover state. I've managed to insert the button and style it the way I'd like, but I can't find any property settings to create different states.
Is this not possible in Captivate 7?
    THANKS!
    Tim

    Hi Tim
What you do is use an Image button. You create three different images to use. One for natural state, one for moused over and one for clicked.
Look in the properties for the button object and ensure the type is set to Image. Then you will see the images. There will also be a file browsing icon you can use that will open the location of the existing images. That will help in identifying the naming convention you need to use if you are using custom images.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Tracking Stats

Hi All, new to podcasting here...
Is there a way to determine how many people are subscribed to my podcast through iTunes? Or is this determined with tools with the host. I'm using Podbean, and they have subscriber stats but it's not available to free users...
    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

I would recommend Podtrac, it is far superior to FeedBurner. Clearer statistics, more detailed information, etc. We've been using it for the Freeskier Magazine Podcast for over six months now.

  • Tracking captivate lesson hits with google analytics

Has anyone tried using Google Analytics to track hits to Captivate-generated lessons?
    Thanks.

    Without hijacking the thread...
Will the CP5 PHP program provided also allow the trackiing of assessment scores to the webserver?
(I am asking because we do not have an LMS)
    Thanks

  • Animated (up state) button image quality

    Hello,
I am experienced with Captivate and getting familiar with
    Flash MX.
I am having trouble with loss of detail (blurry images) when
    importing flash into Captivate.
In flash, I've created a simple button. It has a movie clip
in its up state that makes the button "pulse". It has a graphic
symbol for over, down, and hit states. I have published the swf
with no compression and %100 "JPEG quality". When I preview the
swf, it looks and responds to the click well. The button is a
"NEXT" button that will eventually be used to "continue" the movie.
It is about 108 pixels in width and 40 pixels high. It is based on
images I already use for my NEXT button which was created using the
    Image Button functionality of Captivate.
(NOTE: I have not tried to attach any action script to my new
button yet because I am still struggling with image quality in
    captivate.)
Since it can't be imported as a "button", I have imported it
as an animation. (I am well aware of the issues animations cause
with "losing focus" and such. Just click a library item and then
    move on.)
After inserting the animation, the upstate does pulse, the
over state lights up when I mouse over, and the down state displays
when I click. But, the image is noticeably Fuzzy. It is easy to
measure just how fuzzy and bad it looks by putting my test button
right next to an image of the up and over states in captivate OR
opening the new button in flash player and looking at it next to
the images in my image editing software. My images for up and over
are crisp and clear, The animation in flash player is crisp and
clear, but the flash animation in Captivate is quite fuzzy. I do
not think the issue is in flash or in the way the swf was created.
(NOTE: I actually had to import "big" png images into flash,
resize them smaller, then make them into graphic symbols in order
to make the image quality good enough in flash itself. Simply
importing to the Flash library seemed to make images fuzzy too, but
I've gotten around that issue by shrinking bigger images.
    ...honestly it works.)
I want to know if there is anything I can do about this. Any
insight into getting better image quality of animations in
Captivate is greatly appreciated. As it stands the fuzzy images
just look unprofessional and I can’t use my cool pulsing
    button.
    Thanks for your insights.

While using the fill option for button , you can define the position and fitting for the image.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Is there a way to track # of podcast subscribers in itunes?

I don't think there is, but is there a way to see how many people have subscribed tpo a podcast in iTunes? I was listening to a podcast the other day, and they announced how many subscribers they had. Is this possible?

If you have a feed through feedburner.com, then it will track stats of subscribers. It even breaks down which of those subscribers is using iTunes, Safari, or other RSS and podcatching software.
I even have a chicklet posted on my blog that shows me the hits from the previous day from http://feeds.feedburner.com/marioajero

  • Trying to close Statement from its Connection object

Hi, I am having difficulty finding information regarding how to find and kill a Statement for a given Connection. Unfortunately I do not have direct access to the Statement as the Connection object has been handed off and used externally.
What I am doing is playing around with a connection pool and the effort to replace it with another at this point is not feasible, so basically what I am attempting to do is forcefully release a Connection after a specified timeout period but am finding that the Statement that it is running still persists. Waht I need to know is how I would be able to track down the Statement and .close() it as there does not seem to be any obvious way using the Connection object alone. Any ideas?
Any help or suggestion about how to address this issue would be appreciated.

Wrap the connection before handing it off to external code. Your wrapper will be responsible for tracking statement instances.

  • Captivate Send for Shared Review

"I use Workspaces with my Captivate software for posting content and for tracking & reporting. Will I still be able to do so?
The option to upload content and track results in Captivate with Workspaces [Acrobat.com] will be retired. At this time we have no alternative solution, but the Captivate team is actively looking for one. Stay tuned."
Has Abode come up with an answer to this yet.?

When sharing the link for people to review use the same link http://www.adobe.com/go/cp8.0_reviewerapp but just give instructions to use the one specified for 7.0 (mac or windows).
Sorry to ask again but want to make sure before I send this out to people.

  • Captivate 4 update not recognizing that Captivate 4 is installed

Downloaded the patch but when I run it, the splash screen loads and states that Captivate 4 is not installed on my machine - only option provided is to Quit the update. I'm running this on Windows XP and Captivate 4 has been working fine with the exception of lousy image quality. I wanted to try the update to see if this fixed the graphics issue. I tried the update install from a folder on my desktop and also from the Captive 4 program file folder - same results. Any ideas?

I just ran into this problem with Captivate as well. I uninstalled Flash Player 10.1 by going here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
I then downloaded an archived Flash Player here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
It seems the main installer does not incorporate the Active-X version of Flash that Internet Explorer needs. There should be several Windows installers in the download. For example, I used Flash Player 10. The following Windows files were in the package:
    •    flashplayer10r45_2_win.exe
    •    flashplayer10r45_2_winax.exe
    •    flashplayer10r45_2_win_sa.exe
Install the first one and second. The second file is the Active-X Flash version (I’m thinking “winax” means Windows Active-X), which Captivate needs to run. I don’t think you need to install the last file (“win_sa”, I’m thinking the “sa” stands for stand-alone).

  • Creating Custom Buttons in Captivate 3

In the first version of Captivate, I was able to create my
own image buttons, including the three states of the button (over,
down, click). When I select one of the included buttons in
Captivate 3, the three states of that button are added
automatically. How do I create my own custom buttons and include
the three states in Captivate 3?
    Thanks,
    Erica

Hi Erica and welcome to our community
The process is essentially the same. The only difference here
is that instead of just browsing to the button images and selecting
them individually, you name them appropriately and place them where
    Captivate expects to find them.
They are expected to be found in the following location:
(Assuming you haven't deviated from the default location during
    install)
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\Buttons
    The names should be:
    ButtonName_down.EXT
    ButtonName_over.EXT
    ButtonName_up.EXT
*Note that .EXT reflects the image format. This could be .GIF
or .JPG or .PNG or .BMP and ButtonName reflects what you want to
    call your button.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • Easy Way To Track Statistics in iWeb '08?

I'm just wondering who has the easiest way to track stats of an iWeb '08 page. Any help you may have to offer would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Analytics and other solutions require that you change the html code after you published your webpage either to a folder or .Mac. That sounds more complicated than it is.
You could use for example this [Automator extension|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/addgoogleanalyticsact ion.html] to add your Analytics code to your webpage. If you update your website on a regular basis, it will ease your workflow.

  • Iptables: differences using conntrack or state module

I'm still new to (Arch) Linux, and I am looking into iptables right now. I was looking at the wiki, where there is this rule:
    -A INPUT -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
And I see in the default file /etc/iptables/simple_firewall.rules (owned by iptables 1.4.12.1-2) a similar rule:
    -A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
Now, looking in the man page for iptables, I'm not sure I see/understand the difference between those two modules, conntrack & state:
conntrack: This  module,  when  combined  with  connection tracking, allows access to the connection tracking state for this packet/connection.
NEW meaning that the packet has started a new connection, or otherwise associated with  a  connection which has not seen packets in both directions, and
ESTABLISHED meaning  that  the  packet  is  associated with a connection which has seen packets in both directions,
RELATED meaning that the packet is starting a new connection, but is associated  with  an  existing connection, such as an FTP data transfer, or an ICMP error.
state: This  module,  when  combined  with  connection tracking, allows access to the connection tracking state for this packet.
Descriptions of the states are exactly the same, and for the modules conntrack has a "packet/connection" where state only has "packet", but I'm not sure what the differences/implications are.
Right now, it seems to me that, in the example rule quoted above, both modules/rules would get the exact same result (the difference between the  2 modules being that conntrack allows a lot more than just using state, whereas module state obviously only uses state) -- would that be correct?
Assuming this is right, I should be safe "translating" the rules from the wiki to use the state module instead? (just because it seems module state is all I need, plus I use a custom kernet and conntrack requires a few more options to be enabled)
Also, in that case, would there be a reason why conntrack was used on the wiki? Or would it be maybe a good idea to use the state module instead? (AFAICS all rules always only uses --ctstate to filter by state, nothing else, so using module state should be enough/work the same)
    Thanks for any help/information.

http://serverfault.com/questions/190978/firewall-questions-about-state-and-policy wrote:Technically the conntrack match supersedes - and so obsoletes - the state match. But practically the state match is not obsoleted in any way.
