Tracking a stolen Iphone 2G

Is there a way to track a stolen 2G Iphone? My daughters 2G was stolen today and I m wondering if through GPS there is a way to locate her phone. I have a 3G, which I think might help in locating hers. Greatly appreciate any help. Thanks and Happy New Year!

As I'm sure you know, the first generation iPhone doesn't include GPS and even if it did, this wouldn't be possible. When using an app that requires location services with a first generation iPhone or with an iPhone 3G, the app requests your approval in order to do so.
Even with a police report, Apple nor AT&T will help unless the police request their assistance to do so which isn't likely.
If she didn't have the passcode lock feature enabled along with the erase data option after 10 failed passcode attempts, if she was accessing an email account with the iPhone's mail client, she needs to change her password for the account - for all email accounts if more than one email account was being accessed.
If you are in the U.S., you also need to contact AT&T to notify them that the iPhone was stolen.

No. You can track it with find my iPhone if it was turned on before the phone as stolen.

IF you set up find my iphone on the iphone itself AND it is on ADN it has not been restored, tehn go to icloud.
    Otherwise, you cannot track it.

  • Why cant apple track my stolen iphone if it connects to the internet after reset. the IMEI number stays the same so i dont understand why they just dont shut it off and call me and the police to inform me about the whereabouts of the phone

Hi, my iphone was stolen around a month ago. After the phone popped up on find my iphone in central london the police decided to be really helpful and instead going to get it they closed my case. Since then it has been offline because the "lovely" individual who stole it obviously reset it. I was just wondering why doesnt apple track phones through the IMEI number. The number stays the same, so if the phone connects to the network they should be able to know that its my stolen iphone. I just dont understand why they dont do that. They have a huge ecosystem, and if someone signs in to my iphone with their itunes account (which they pretty much have to in order to use most of the phones features) the IMEI number gets associated with that perticular account. Would it not be possible for them to realize that its my stolen phone?
    Thanks to anyone that answers.

Your carrier can lock the IMEI number, try contacting them. At least you'll have the satifsaction of knowing the theif can't use it anymore. My guess is Apple doesn't block IMEI numbers because they don't want someone selling a phone without record, and then reporting it stolen and causing problems that way. But that's just a guess, I feel for ya. Good luck either way, if it's a locked phone you should be able to call the carrier it's locked to and have the IMEI blocked.

  • HT1689 Can Apple track a stolen iphone 4?

I recently had my iphone stolen and I have it registered online. Is there any way to track a stolen phone through apple's website.

    Can they?  Possibly.
Will they... not a chance in heck.
Try a search or the more like the section.

  • Can apple track a stolen iphone

can my stolen iphone be traced

True, Apple can't-but with the IMEI theoretically the police could - however in reality they won't as it too much bother unless the theft is related to something serious.
    Sigh,

  • Can apple track a stolen iphone 5

i just lost my iphone today and find my iphone says my phone is offline. does that mean that my iphone is off?

I am sure that when compelled by the legal system that they can track them.
As a matter of policy, Apple does not track iphones for individuals, nor do they do so without request from law enforcement.

  • How to find and track a stolen iphone

HELPPP. thank you for your time.

No, there is no other way.

  • Tracking a stolen iphone

Last night, a lowlife thief rifled through my car and stole my OLD iphone 3GS. The phone had been deactivated after I upgraded to my iPhone 4 several months ago. I suspect the battery was dead as well, but they stole my car charger, too.
Here's my question: If someone turns on this phone, is there any way to track it, even though it's deactivated? I am not that interested in recovering the phone. I am more interested in catching the individual who took it. (I live in a small town, and there's been a rash of breakins lately).
The phone was never wiped, so there's probably a good bit of information on it.

Yes there is a way to track it.... every phone, like a computer, has its own unique serial number that is integral to connectivity whatever sim card is being used....so the phone companies can track an individual phone whatever the circs. All they have to do is set their servers to search and they can find it!!!
of course, the big problem you have is trying to get them, the police or anyone to do this for you. since it is only a phone, this is highly unlikely!!....
pity really.... we have all this amazing technology but useless law enforcement .... !!

  • Possible to track lost/stolen iPhone without sim card?

I managed to lose my iPhone last night ( )and I think it may have been picked up by someone as it was lost in a bar and the bar hasn't got it. I've tried calling it but it just goes straight to my voicemail.
Since it was fully charged, I don't think it's died. If someone has taken the sim card out and restored the phone, is there any way to track the actual phone?

With a MobileMe account and Find My iPhone enabled along with the Passcode Lock feature enabled which prevents someone from accessing anything on your iPhone, removing the SIM card prevents using the Find My iPhone features. The same if the iPhone is restored with iTunes as a new iPhone.

  • Any way to track stolen iPhone 4 without having previously installed an app

Hi, I've had my iPhone 4 stolen.
I've not got a mobile me subscription, (but I'd buy one if it meant I could track the phone?) and haven't installed any third party tracking app either.
Is there any way it could be tracked? It seems silly that my network can send a shutdown signal, to essentially "brick" the phone unless it's recovered, but can't have the device report it's location...
    Thanks.

I remember reading somewhere that they recommend that you don't immediately report it to AT&T so you can avoid having your phone turn into a brick. If the thief is not smart and uses the phone, you may be able to track the numbers the individual is calling and then report those to the police as evidence.
If the person turns off the phone and pulls the sim card out, it could be harder to trace even with tracking software installed.
For those interested in tracking software, here are some apps that might help.

  • HT201365 Stolen iPhone 5 but installed Find My Phone after it was stolen and bought new phone. Can locate old phone.

My iPhone 5was stolen but unfortunately I installed the find my phone app after it was stolen and now have another iPhone. I can still track my stolen iPhone on my iPad and it is in my neighborhood but I can't exactly knock on the door and demand it back. If I play the sound and send messages they appear on my new phone, however. If I can't get my old phone back I want to make it impossible for the new user to operate it. I have erased all the data on the old phone to the best of my knowledge. I don't want to erase it as I'm scared all the data on my new phone will be erased.please help. I am in Indonesia.

But did you enable Find My iPhone in settings on your stolen phone before it was stolen?  If you didn't, you can't track it or do anything else using Find My iPhone.

How are you doing that if you didn't enable Find My iPhone on it before it was stolen?  Are you sure you aren't tracking your new phone rather than your old one?

That's an indication that you are tracking your new phone, not your old one.

  • HT201365 stolen iphone i0S6

I lost my phone fully charged and within half an hour it was turned off so I know someone had it. I have the myiphone app on but with i0S6. Everyday now they turn it on and turn it back off right away. I have the address but it is an apartment bldg and they do it on the sidewalk. My new phone comes tmrw but I want to keep tracking it. Can I still do it if I change my phone#/service to the new phone? Or is it still on icloud? I'd rather set up a temp ID. I want justice! Thanks!+

  • Stolen iPhone 4S...any way to track it? other than using the Find My Iphone app

Hi. So yesterday, my iPhone 4S got stolen while I was in PE class.
Immediately after I realized that it was gone, I called my dad and he cancelled the service for me (Verizon) so that the person who stole it would not be able to use it.
I've been checking my phone's status on the Find My iPhone app regularly, but it keeps saying that it's offline.
So I was wondering, are there any other apps, websites, ANYTHING that I can use to find out where my phone is or turn it on? (so i can track it..)
also, i didnt have iCloud on that phone.
(as in i didnt turn it on on the phone itself)
is there a way to get all my photos that i had on my old phone back?
for example, if i get a new iphone, would i still be able to transfer the photos that were on my stolen iphone onto my new phone? (without iCloud....just using the same apple id user and pass)
    Thanks.
O and one more thing..I read on other sites that I shouldn't contact the police because they just file a report and put the case aside.
Do you recommend that I still report it to the police..just in case?

Just so you don't hold on to that sinking feeling for not taking out every possible precaution aside from just leaving your phone at home and not using it...  after having your phone stolen or .. lost:
I paid the insurance to cover loss or damage for two year... (really dumb of me since the deductible is $200. USD: more than I can buy the exact phone online and more than I could have sold mine if I had sold it online; (iphone 4 -32g).  So don't kick yourself for not having insurance if you didn't.
I had all apps turned on: PhotoStream (which would have had to be active on your phone in order to retrieve photos to your pc or your mac now that it is lost).  However, it is only as good as the last internet connection you were on and only if your were on that connection long enough for the photos to upload to photo stream.  I was able to cover photos from Beijing and not the remaining 3/4 of my trip's photos.
Any photo app you may have been using most likely has an online access.  Did you download a photo app?  Start there.  Do you have an itunes account?  You can see what apps you have downloaded from there.  If you use a mac you can see the photos in photo stream, (a sunflower icon).
Even if you had registered and jumped through all the hoops keeping app and updates up to par and a security passcode in place on the phone itself, your i phone tracking is not going to work at all unless the user is able to connect to the internet.  This is not going to happen unless they can access the internet by having your passcode.  So this tracking system, insurance and protection code is in most all cases a false since of security.  It doesn't help you 95% of the time... i am guessing.
The except is possible I know.   I found two iphones one time and saw the owners request to call them that was sent from the tracking system.  I called and returned their phones.   The people who have my phone have most likely dismantled it and are using the parts to recreate replications....  i lost it in China, lol.   where I saw massive fake reproduction within buildings that consume 7-15 floors and about 8 city blocks.  So, it isn't always about your information: in this case they wanted the hardware.  Which brings up the next point.
In the iphone tracking portion of icloud.com there is an option to erase the phone.  I am not sure if this makes it unusable for the new owner of default or if it just clears your crap so they can actually use the phone.   I've left my stuff on the phone thinking it is most likely already in pieces.  (a kinda Frankenstein-ish feeling when I think about it).   If you erase you phone via the icloud it seems you are no longer able to track it.  it cuts all of your ties and abilities to do anything... if you could do something.  ...  hmmm.
So, do not bother with phone carrier insurance on phones: better to make sure it is covered in a home renter's or owner's policy.  You have to specifically ask this of your agent or it is not a part of your coverage. This will cost you less than the usual cell phone insurance, shouldn't be more than $5. per month.  (i paid $10!!  ....  should be a class action going on somewhere around that in itself).   Phone carrier insurance is a scam from A to Z these days... don't fall for it like I did.  Yes, it was once a useful tool. Just make sure your home owner/renters ins deductible is not the same value as the phone.
So, do not fret that you did not have this "service" activated.  Do however, check to see if you can download Photo Stream to any computer and access your last uploaded pictures from the phone.  This application was most likely on your phone.  Although you would have had to tie it to an account on the phone in order to tap into photo in a cloud of sorts.
Hope this helps if nothing more but to ease the pain.
