Tracking edits

Using iphoto to "organize" my photos is pretty straight forward. My question is about photos that are edited in PSE4. Will iphoto track PSE4 edits the same way it tracks changes made within iphoto?

luv2shoot:
Yes is will but only if you go thru iPhoto to activate PSE5. Go to iPhoto's preferences and select PSE4 as the application to use when you double click on a thumbnail.
The image will open in PSE4 and you can proceed with your edit. But there is on big caveat with this system. If you perform an edit or operation, i.e. adding layers, that require a change in format to .psd you have to follow one of these two options:
1. Flatten the image so you can save it as a jpg.
2. Do a Save As to the desktop and import the new file.
That way iPhoto will recognize the edit and update the thumbnail as necessary.
If you select #2 as the route to go then any subsequent edit can be saved normally as it will already have the .psd extersion. This will allow you to have multiple edits on one file by duplicating the background layer and working on it. That is except for crops. Those affect all layers.

    When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
    This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
    On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

    How can you edit with single stereo audio track editing.
    I find the 2 audio track annoying and confusuing.
    Thanks

    In FCP, if it's a single track of audio, it isn't going to be stereo. Stereo has two channel, hence the need for two tracks. What is it about stereo clips that annoys and confuses you?

  • Audio track edits not saved

    I am using Captivate 4. I have a group of files where any edits I make to the audio track are not saved. The audio plays back fine in the audio editor. It just will not save the changes I make to the audio track (cut segments, add silent segments, etc.) I make a change, click OK in the audio editor, close the editor. When I reopen the editor the changes are not saved. I tried uninstalling and reintalling Captivate. I tried saving the file under a different name. Any ideas why this might be happening and if there is any workaround? thanks.

    Hi there
    You should ensure that Captivate has been updated to the most recent release. The developers released an update after the initial release. Additionally, you may need to follow what is outlined in this blog post. I had to do that on my PC.

  • CS6 Clip/track editing question, zooming question

    Hi folks, I had another account here but it won't let me log in.
    I've just done my first tracking session in CS6 after using AA3 for years. I liked a lot of features such as the intelligent snapping when I'm resizing overdub clips, but there's a few things that baffle me.
    Clips and tracks - is there any way to lock a clip so that it's always on top? This was absolutely infuriating today when I was doing overdubs. If I needed to do something like a boundary edit on the original file, it would go on top of the overdub clip and I'd have to use the annoying Send To Back option. Can I set anything so that the new file always remains on top?
    Also, in AA3 instead of this Send To Back option, wasn't there a possibility to choose which clip you wanted to bring to the top?
    Zooming - this was highly frustrating today too. When I'd be working on a track and had it (or clips on it) highlighted, I'd want to zoom in to do a small move or a crossfade or something. The Vertical Zoom bears no relation to the actual track I'm working on which is infuriating - Zoom In just seems to focus on random tracks and I have to scroll down or up to get back to the track I was working on! This is pretty daft, is there any setting I can change so that Vertical Zoom keeps the highlighted track on screen?
    Thanks!

    johnclarity wrote:
    No combination of CTRL, ALT etc works to change the zoom.
    It does, but whoops, I got it the wrong way around - this makes it zoom horizontally when held over the clips (same behaviour as holding it over the zoom bar).
    What's happening on the Vertical Zoom In is that it just expands the screen from the top track. So if you kept zooming in, you eventually just see the first track. Utterly daft. I mean, utterly utterly daft.
    Adobe - when I select a track or clip in the Multitrack view and press "zoom in", I would love to actually zoom in on THAT track rather than the FIRST TRACK of the session. Cheers.
    Okay, here's all the stuff you didn't discover:
    Vertical scrolling and zooming in Multitrack view is different according to where the mouse is positioned when you do it. If you hold the mouse over the vertical scroll bar, the results will vary according to where you hold it on the bar (yes really!). If you hold it at the top, then you get what you describe above - but if you hold it in the middle, it will zoom around that point. If you hold it at the bottom, it will zoom to the lowest part of your display. If you hold the mouse over the display, it will simply scroll vertically. Okay, the behaviour is a bit flaky (well I think it is) but it does sort-of work.
    In Waveform view, you can achieve vertical zooming-in on a waveform by holding the mouse over the dB scale and using the wheel there, instead of on the waveform (which scrolls horizontally).

  • Multiple Track Editing

    I just started working with multiple tracks(specifically for my podcast, but this question should be able to be answered by anyone working with multiple tracks). The problem I'm having is making edits to the file without de-synching the audio. Basically, if I want to edit out a section of the audio, I apparently can only edit it out in one of my two tracks. That means I have to go in to the second track and try to edit the same amount of that track out before moving everything over to fill the gap. Is there a way to edit something out of multiple tracks at once?

    Yeah, when you find the Track Editor it seems like it would be the right place to do all the dirty work, but its really a VERY limited editor, and really the UI would be pretty complicated if it had to handle more than a single track at a time.
    Once you get used to it, editing in the Timeline really is pretty quick, at least I've found it so. Hopefully it will work well for you once you give it a a go.
    Good luck, and have fun --Hang

  • Multiple audio track editing problem

    Hello, Im editing a film right now and we have a tons of temp music score tracks along with the standard vocal track from the camera. I am running into major problems, because when I go to trim a clip a little, it says operation not allowed because a piece of audio temp music is below it. I have to lock the the audio (say its 7&8) to make the trim, but then all the music on that track doesnt get shifted down. How the **** I am supposed to edit with multiple tracks. Is it just not possible? Please say no.

    Sequence settings, Source material specs, number of audio tracks, please.

  • IMovie multi-track edit

    I am trying to learn iMovie and I'm struggling with it. I am quite used to a linear video editor where the video and audio are on separate tracks and can be edited/cut accordingly.
    Anyways, round 2 of my video projects needs interviews and background music. I cannot figure out how to manage two simultaneous audio tracks in a visually understandable arrangement... I cannot find how to crossfade/edit the audio in this version of iMovie!!!
    Goal-
    Play a song during the photo and video montage portion, then during an interview portion, fade down the background song and then raise up the volume once again for the next song&montage after the interview.
    Using iMovie '11 on Lion 10.7.3

    First some general info, then to your specific question.
    If you are doing interviews, the Cutaway feature will help you greatly for adding B-Roll. Here is a Tutorial. http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/imovie_09_stone.html#cutaway%20pip
    For sound, there are several ways to do that.
    If you use Cutaway, the interview sound continues during the the cutaway.
    If you are using Voiceover. You can select the Voiceover track and open the Inspector to the Audio tab. Select the Ducking Feature. Set the percentage to diminish all other tracks except the selected track. When the voiceover track completes, the normal volumes for music will continue. If you want to adjust the volume in just one audio track without affecting the other audio tracks, just use the volume slider rather than the ducking feature.
    For greatest control over music tracks, do not drag them in as background music. Rather, drag them in and drop them on the video clip where you want them to start. They will appear as a ribbon beneath the video clips. You can easily move, shorten, etc.
    Here is a Tutorial from Apple that shows the audio features including ducking. http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips
    There are new audio features in iMovie 11 that are not covered in the iMovie 08 Tutorial. You can see an overview here under "All New Audio Editing". http://www.apple.com/ilife/video-showcase/

  • Tracking Edit Original in CS4

    Hi All,
    How can we know if an image has been edited with 'Edit Original' option in CS4.
    In previous Indesign versions (before CS4), the UIDRef of the link used to change if the image is saved after editing. In CS4 it doesn't change.
    In previous version I was trapping the ActionID for Edit Original and checking the UIDRefs to see if the image is saved after editing.
    Is there any method for this in CS4. Or some link attribute that can be checked to know if the image is saved or not after editing.
    Regards,
    Jasmine

    I am developing a plugin for adobe InDesign CS4.
    From my plugin, when I select a link and right click on it, I am getting "Edit Original" and "Edit with" options.
    But the "Edit with" option doesn't list the applications.
    I am able to edit the link using "Edit Original".
    The code I mentioned is not able to get the list of applications in the appList array.
    currently I am doing the below in LinkResource Handler::CanEditResource().
    AppInfoList appList;
    UIDRef LinkSelectedInLayout = Utils<ILinksUIUtils>()->GetSingleLinkUIDRefSelectedInLayout();
    if(LinkSelectedInLayout.GetUID() != kInvalidUID)
    InterfacePtr<ILink> SelectedLink(LinkSelectedInLayout,UseDefaultIID());
    if(SelectedLink)
    //UIDRef linkResourceRef(::GetDataBase(SelectedLink),SelectedLink->GetResource ());
    Utils<ILinksUIUtils>()->GetEditOriginalEditorList(appList,SelectedLink );
    //Utils<ILinkUtils>()->GetEditorList(linkResourceRef,appList,kFalse);
    Any Guide will be a great help

  • Going from "Audio File" to "Multi-track" Editing in Soundtrack

    Howdy!
    In Final Cut I've exported multiple clips via right click and "Send to STP as Audio File Project."
    Now, I've realized I am doing it all horribly wrong, and I would like to export my entire sequence again as a multi-track project!
    Great, but now I have to ask myself, "What about the clips I've already EQed and used the noise cancellation tool on? Do I leave them as they are and just expect for them to go back to their original state? Or should I delete the files that STP made?" When I right click a clip this is the file type that STP made, that FCP links to, "292_1336_03.MOV (sent).stap"
    Can I delete that file and about 7 others to make my audio return to it's normal state? Or is there a couple other steps I should do before ruining my life?
    Thanks a bunch,
    JS

    I'd start with a Send to STP Multiclip project. You'll probably have to isolate the clips you already modified individually, only so you don't lay another track-based effect on top of an existing clip-based effect. Then just listen and see what you've got. If it's not going to work for you, well, chalk that up to a "learning moment," or "experiment." I have plenty of those sitting around here. Once you get a handle on the STP workflow it's much faster overall for dealing with an entire project (not so good for single clips).

    I need to edit sections of several songs into a single track on a CD for a dressage test. Any ideas what software I need to get to achieve this?

    Audacity 1.2.5 is an audio editor in which you can assemble and edit your recordings: it's free. I don't think it would burn CDs - you would have to reimport the finished recording into iTunes and burn from there.
    Amadeus Lite is $24.99 in the Mac App Store and is in my opinion a better product: it can burn your audio CD directly.
    If this is a one-off job you might as well use Audacity: if you are planning on doing this sort of thing at all often you would probably be better off either with Amadeus Lite or Amadeus Pro ($59.99) though this latter may well be over-specified for you as it includes multi-track editing.

  • Can you change the format of text in Track Text Edits?

    My client wants changed text to be blue double-underlined. I can apply a character tag to changed text to create the double underline, but it will not change the color to blue from the default forest green.
    Is there a way to customize the format of the Track Text Edits text? Please help as soon as you can because I'm starting this project today using conditional text for the deletions and character formatting for the changes and insertions in this ~300 page book.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Karen,
    The track edit changes are just special formats of Condition Catalog items that are unfortunately hardwired. You can save them as MIF, edit the color, e.g.
    <Condition
      <CTag `FM8_TRACK_CHANGES_ADDED'>
      <CState CShown>
      <CStyle CUnderline>
      <CSeparation 10>
      <CColor `Forest Green'>  <-- change to Blue ro whatever is defined in the Color catalog.
      <CAndCondition >
    > # end of Condition
    <Condition
      <CTag `FM8_TRACK_CHANGES_DELETED'>
      <CState CShown>
      <CStyle CStrike>
      <CSeparation 2>
      <CColor `Red'>
      <CAndCondition >
    > # end of Condition
    HOWEVER, FM dutifully changes these back when you re-open the MIF fle. No can do manually.
    IIRC, I believe that Rick Quatro has written a Framescript that does some magic here. You might want to contact him - see:

  • Overlay edit erases other target tracks

    Why is it when I do an overlay edit and I happen to have some other target tracks on it will erase those other tracks?
    Let me give you an example:  I am adding a 1 second sound effect to audio track 5.  If I happen to have any audio audio or video target tracks on, whatever is on those tracks will be deleted for 1 second.
    It means that everytime I do an overlay edit, I have to make sure to first turn off all audio and video target tracks to ensure that existing material won't be erased, then turn on the target track(s) I need.  Yes I made a shortkey for that, but honestly, kinda clunky.
    This is only for overlay editing, I am aware of the value of being able to select which tracks to remove when doing a lift or extraction.
    Why in the world could anyone want this function?

    "Or, you could just drag it down to the track you want it on."
    Yes I know, that is really the optimum edting workflow for Prpro.  Occassionally I like it, other times I find it clunky.
    For former Avid/FCP guys like me, it's hard to adjust.  Especially since the workflow I am accustomed to is so tantalizing close to being optimum in PrPro.
    Here is what I would like in target track editing, which I will add to a feature request:
    1.  Get rid of this crazy erase during overlay function.  Maybe the engineers lumped in with selective track when lifting, I don't know, but it serves no function except create panic, for me anyway, when I find chunks of my edit accidently deleted because I wasn't watching like a hawk which tracks I had on everytime I did an overlay.
    2.  We have shortkeys for track toggling, hallelujah, I couldn't live with out it, especially since much of my editing is cutting & pasting between sequences.  BUT we need shortkeys for the actual video and audio selection so that when working with 10 tracks of audio I don't have to scroll down to find the track where the audio selector (is that what it's called?) is hiding and take it to the track I actually want the audio to be on.
    3.  I don't know about windows, but on a mac I have to use the slider to go up and down tracks.  Boy, I would love to be able to scroll up and down the tracks with a mouse track wheel just I like I can do when I am looking for shots in a bin or scrolling on the web.  That may sound nitpicky, but it would make editing on PrPro an even more enjoyable experience than it already is.

  • Editing Track information

    Have a problem editing track information, have seen previous message posts, BUT ... All security/ownerships look ok, full control owned by ADMIN. Have imported 200 CD's sofar all ok - just done 3 today and get 1st track editable all others greyed on CD1 & 2, CD 3 all greyed. All CD's from same artist, part of triple.
    Only known difference is Itunes version - original cd's imported 12 months ago.
    Have further 3 with same issue, again just imported.
    Any ideas ?

    It appears that using the default AAC format is causing the problem, I have imported the CD's using MP3 format, including 'replacing' the originals and all imports successful.
