  • Short, medium and long term planning in SNP

    Hi,
can somebody explain me what Short, medium and long term planning mean in SNP?
Lets, say I have this scenario:
If I have a product with SNP horizon of 35 days, which means that the product is planned in SNP only after 35 days from today.  Only PPDs deals with orders in these 35 days.
    I have a 3 planning books
short term with 30 days from today
medium term with 7 months from today and
long term with 2 years from today.
When I say short, medium and long term planning in SNP what exactly happens in these ?? What do users usually do in these books?
SNP horizon is 35 days and the short term book is 30 days long, in which SNP does nothing. What's the use of this book?
    Thanks.

When I say short, medium and long term planning in SNP what exactly happens in these ??
Nothing much from a technical stand point.
What do users usually do in these books?
Check the Time Bucket Profile for the different books. The short Term Book will be in days, the mid term in weeks and the long term in months/quarters etc. The different books allows users to see the keyfigures in different time-based aggregate level.
But if Heuristic is executed then behaviour will be different. Remember SNP Location Heuristic run uses the bucket of the data view to compute the Net Requirement and then try creating Receipts in each bucket within the time horizon of the data view using suitable master data. So if you run Location Heuristic in the short Term (daily) view then you will have many receipts one per day most likely. If you run in mid-term Weekly view then there are less number of receipts one receipt per week till 7 months. likewise for the long term view.
SNP horizon is 35 days and the short term book is 30 days long, in which SNP does nothing. What's the use of this book?
Maybe just to see the data. Location Heuristic run will not generate any new receipt.
    Thanks,
    Somnath

  • DPM 2010 Short and Long Term goals

My question is related to size restrictions.
Our existing DPM 2010 is setup with two protections groups, System State, and a Default (file) protection group. Both are set up the same. A co worker recently had to re-create a protection group due to his negligence and deleted it without looking at how
it was setup in the first place, since then I've been having errors in backing up to tape:
Synchronization frequency is set to just before recovery point
    Short term goals are:
Recovery points are at 8:00 AM, 12:00PM, 6:00PM Everyday, Express Full is 8:00PM Everyday
    Long term goals are:
Retention range 2 weeks, Frequency Weekly (1 recovery point every 1 week for the last 2 weeks)
Full backups are set to Saturday at 11:00 PM
Here's the thing, we have 3x3TB external drives that, historically have been swapped out weekly (Monday mornings, using Firestreamer for tape emulation). Since the co-worker broke, and re-created the protection groups, when we view DPM Console on Monday
morning, we see that the backup jobs are failing, the 3TB drive is full.
Could this 3TB drive be full due to this weekly swapping out when it is set to a retention range of 2 weeks? Obviously, it could be because the protection group actually contains that much data, but I'm trying to wrap my head around sync frequency, recovery
points and how that works into recovery goals.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Right. After the registry key is added, all new recovery points written to tape will show they expire at midnight (12:00am) on they day they expire so any tape jobs that run later that day will be able to use that tape after the expiry
    date.
To prevent tape jobs from failing because there are no tapes available, you can also add this registry value.
During a new tape backup or if a tape becomes full and there are no other tapes marked free, Free (contains data) or expired in the library, DPM will raise an alert to prompt for another free tape to continue backup.  The same is true during a
restore, if the needed tape is not in the library an alert will be raised.  By Default, DPM It will wait for
1 hour before failing the job.
This prompting timeout can be configured by the registry entry “PromptingTimeOut” under “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\1.0\Prompting”
    PromptingTimeOut:REG_Dword:43200000  (dec) = 12hrs
    The Formula is   (#hrs * 1000 * 60 * 60)
    1HR =  1*1000*60*60 =  3600000  decimal
So for each hour to wait, multiply by 3600000.
    8hrs = 28800000  decimal
    Restart the DPMRA service.

  • Short term and Long-term inspection and characteristic

    Hi all,
In the SAP portal, they mentioned about Long-Term Inspection with Long-Term Characteristic, and Short-Term Inspectoin with Short-Term Characteristic.
May I know what is the usage on the above and how to setup in the system?
    Thanks
    YY

Long Term Characteristics Indicator is marked in the Control Indicators Tab of an MIC.
Long Term Inspection is used when the Business Requirement is to do Results Recording after Usage Decision.
In normal circumstances, i.e. Short Term Inspection, system won't allow us to do RR once UD is given.

  • How to automatic post the profit OR loss to short term Capital / long term

    Hi,
How to automatic post the profit OR loss to Short term Capital gain / Long term capital gain on posting of Sales transaction ?
Incase the inventory item is less than one year older then the difference should be posted to the G/L of Short term Capital gain, where as if the item is more than one year older then the difference should be posted to the G/L of Long term Capital gain
    Thanks in advance
    Samir Gandhi

I don't think any logic can be used to reach your goal.  How B1 system should post in such a fussy conditions?
In case the inventory item is less than one year older then the difference should be posted to the G/L of Short term Capital gain
How can you identify these items?  An inventory is a moving concept like a river. It come and goes with all different ways even as to value and revalue them.
Please follow the common sense to face reality.

  • Short term planning & long term Planning

    Hi PP Guru's
!  . I have scenario like this I am having many trading Plant and the requirements are collected and Sales person preparing VA31
Scheduling agreement for 1 week ( Short term ) also for 10 weeks ( long term ). In trading plant ( planning  / delivery plant ) there
is no master data other than material master is Maintained in SAP system
2  . I am having Production Plant  and  need  to address this requirement May be through SPk 40 .
My question is How the requirement should I transfer whether i need to manually create manually PIR and copy into Production
Plant or is there any other way to transfer the requirements from SA ( VA31 )
    3. I want to adopt planniing strategy 52 - Planning without Final assembly because my Planning of certain SFG Procured externally
should not trigger as per my FG requirements but as per my rolling Plan for 10 weeks for which I am PR having from MRP for
Long term procurement material which is having lead time say 2 Months I am converting PR into PO using ME59N transaction with
      weekly Lot size .
    4.  For Short term Procurement material I have lot size as TB which is having less lead time say 2 - 5 days max.
Could you please tell me using this strategy 52 how my PIR will consume and  Reduce and in which stage . If i am doing PGI using
641 Movement type from Production Plant and PGR using 101 movement type .
    5. For my Procurement for Long term with A class material how can I reduce my inventory may be space constraint and Cost
Constraint how can I receive this material for my Production.
Marks will be awarded with Max for right answer

  • Sap mm md04 and ms04 stock requirement and long term planning issue

    Hi guru's,
i have one issue regarding MD04 and MS04. in MD04 3 storage locations were showing. in that the stock in 2 storage locations was excluded due to no long term plan.
now if we see in ms04, these 2 storage locations are not appearing. now my logistics manager wants to maintain the long term planning for these two also.
in md04,,, 3 storage locations available ..same like ms04 should follow
provide the solution as soon as possible
    Thanks & Regards
    Prasad.

    Mukesh,
To change the forecast from occuring at start of period ( month) you can always select the Schedule line Tab in MD61,MD62. then select period indicator as Day format as shown below
    Per. Ind          Date              Qty
    D     17.05.2010     30
    D     15.06.2010     40
    D     15.07.2010     50
System will then plan PIR (forcast) based on dates assigned by user instead of being placed on the first day
of the period. This will prevent forcast to fall into the previous month. Also it will resolve the capacity issue you are facing.
If you have more questions please come back.
    thanks,
    Ram

    Hi Ravi:
I ve been reading carefully what you suggest. what sap note # 1515125 implement is realy what I need for my Client about current portion of a long term debt.

  • QM, Inspection Lot with Long-Term and Required Characteristic

I want to know if it is possible to print a Certificate of Analysis (COA) with a required, long-term characteristic, if the inspection lot is using the special function "Short-Term Inspection Completed". And then a special Usage decision is made.
Our dilemma is that we have materials that must be shipped for pre approval with a COA, before certain QM tests have been made, and we want to be able to print the COA, but the required flag stops us.
So, what we really want is to require the characteristic if it is one usage decision and not require it if it is a special usage decision related to a "Short-Term Inspection Completed" inspection lot.
We also, would prefer not to have multiple COA profiles to handle, this would cause too much extra data handling.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I If your Characteristic , whether it is short term or long term, is not marked as REQUIRED characteristic then there will be sure botheration for you to perform UD w\o performing the RR for them. It will prompt a message, which tends to be warning normally. But the characteristic is not REQUIRED and is OPTIONAL one then there will be no message , no botheration.
But one thing is very clear that if you want to print the Result of some MIC or characteristic,
    then
    1. it must be recorded for the result.
    2. it must be maintained in the COA profile.
At the other hand if you don't wish to print the result of some characteristic, whether it is short term or long term, don't keep it in the COA profile. System will not print it for you.

  • How sale forecast transfer to COPA via KSPP and not related to long term,

    Dear all experts,
i am trying to transfer my sale forecast to COPA via KSPP. However, this is not related to product group and long term planning.
    any configuration involve?
what is the step that i need to proceed?
    please advise.
    CJ

I think you are misunderstood something.  The KSPP transaction is used to transfer the activity for the planned order; either long-term or short term to cost center activity type planning (in scheduled activity; and with reconciliation function, can copy to plan quantity).
It is not related to sales forecast from COPA to SOP which KE1E t-code is used.
For KSPP, you can set the transfer control in configuration.  Alternatively, without configuration, you can use flexible transfer (menu Environment -> Flexible transfer).  This provide that you have the master data in PP and CO setup correctly.

  • What actually gets written to tape by long-term protection?

I've been reviewing our long term recovery goals and am confused by the Customize Recovery Goal screen. The only documentation I can find for it only gives brief descriptions and is for 2010, I'm using 2012 R2.
Customizing Recovery Goals for Long-Term Protection
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399209.aspx
I notice it says 'Back up every:' under the recovery goals, not 'colocate'. Does this mean that it will take a backup and write it directly to tape instead of writing the recovery points on disk to tape?
The specify long-term goals screen in the Modify Group wizard says 'All long-term tape-based protection uses full backups.' Does this mean the file and application recovery points from the short term protection aren't written to tape?

    Hi,
    <snip>
What actually gets written to tape by long-term protection?
    >snip<
It really depends if you are using short-term to disk or not.
    1) You are using short-term to disk, long term to tape (D2D2T)
In this configuration the last successful disk based recovery point is written to tape.
The data is read from DPM recovery point and copied to tape.
    2) You are using short-term to tape and long term to tape (D2T2T)
The first LT recovery goal is a full backup taken from the protected server.
Other LT goals are tape copies from lesser goals, so you need multiple tape drives.
As noted - all long term tape backups are full backups, no incremental backups are possible.

  • DPM 2012 SP1 long term backup fails when protected server reboots

    Hi,
    we're using DPM 2012 SP1 with Short-term and long-term protection.
We use a daily short-term backup to disk and a weekly long-term to tape.
We are noticing that when a long-term tape backup is running, it fails when we reboot one of the protected servers.
Is anyone else having this issue ? I assumed the long-term tape backup will be created from a disk-recovery point.

  • DPM 2012 R2 Long Term not backing up on correct day

    Howdy,
I have created a Protection group w/both short and long term protections. The short term backup is to disk, Monday through Thursday, and the long term backup up is on Fridays to tape. (See images below) Seems simple enough, however for some reason the long
term Friday shows up on Thursday the same time the the short term backups are run. I didn't know that was possibly, but more importantly why is this happening?
I've done as much research as I can do on the web, I'm hoping someone here can weigh in. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Janaka,
This is by design, all Long term tape backups are taken from the last successful disk based backup.  In your case, your last disk based backup is Thursday, and no data has changed since then, so DPM will mount Thursdays disk based recovery point and
copy it to tape and the time of the recovery point will be the same as Thursday since the version of the data is exactly the same.

  • Long term Battery preservation...

A genius at Apple retail told me this tip for longterm battery life:
don't leave the computer plugged in while it sleeps. It's cool to let the HD spin down and let the screen sleep, but down let the system sleep without pulling the AC.
He also said that when it comes thime t do a weekly calibration, that letting it dry up all the way is sort of a wives tale... In fact, its better he says to let it go down almost to 0 and similarly not to let it get to full capacity on the recharge (this is achieved automatically whenthe AC is in and the system is still awake. Basically the system tricks the battery into not charging all the way which for some reason save it in the long term.
Does any of that make sense, and if so are there any other means by which one can keep the battery lving and lasting longer (short term and long term suggestion welcome, many thanks in advance.

It seems geniuses ain't what they used to be...
    1) You can choose to have the disks spun down when attached to external power.
    2) I'll take the word of the engineers who designed the device and chose its components over that of an hourly guy in a retail store any day. By that I mean I'll follow Apple's published instructions on maintenance. It's not that they might not discover a better way, but I just consider them a lot more authoritative.
The whole power and battery area seems rife with folklore. Folklore and computers don't mix!.
Take your advice from the horse's mouth. Follow Apple's instructions and recommendations. They publish a great deal of information on-line. I have to believe it's generally well vetted by their engineering staff.
