Tracking Windows 2000 OS events--Is it possible?
Hello all,
I have stored files in my computer which are generated using my application. These files own my application specific file extension. I have registered the file association to windows registry and when each time the file is opened in OS environment (using double click or rignt click on the icon--> open etc.,).. i need to access the file's absolute path in order to open it using my application. How to track those system events (Double clicks, right click--> open etc.,)..can anyone help me out??..
Thank you in advance!!
Maybe I don't understand what you're asking.
Of course you should buy a bigger than 16GB msata ssd, i suggested that the 128GB is the sweet spot, costing around $100-120. This is fast enough and spacious enough for the operating system and programs and you get to keep your 320GB HDD (installed of course as it is now, inside your laptop) as storage space for photos, music, videos.
You can certainly get a bigger msata ssd (around $250 for 256GB), but i don't see the point unless you really want to burn money. The point in using an ssd is to have the fast access, both read and write, to the operating system and programs. You do not need to load the SSD with all your files since you can keep your old big HDD for these, you don't gain practically anything by having photos and videos in an ssd...
Now, if the only option would be to replace the hard disk with a normal (not msata) SSD, then you certainly would need either to buy a very large SSD (spending $400-500) or to keep an external usb disk for your files. The only advantage would be that you would have full SATA III speeds instead of the SATA II speeds that an msata would give you. Having tried both options, the perceivable difference in speed between the two (SATA II vs SATA III) is negligible. There is a difference but you would know only by running benchmarks...
So, to conclude, get a 128GB msata ssd (or bigger if you insist and have money to spend) and keep your 320GB HDD for the storage of your files. The laptop will be really and significantly much faster and you will have a big smile on your face with the difference in speed from your old HDD. This is the best of the options IMO.

Windows 2000 on Sat S1800-514: possible?
Hello everybody
I'm wondering if downgrading from XP to 2000 on the old good Sat S1800-514 be possible or not. I tried once but a nasty problem was the display driver: could not find a Win 2000 working one for the Trident board. I see the label on the machine saying "Designed for Win XP" - does it mean I cannot downgrade? Anybody know how to solve this bit? By the way: I guess that Win 2000 would make the laptop run faster... XP seems quite heavy to be borne by a Celeron 995Mhz and 112 MB RAM....
Thanks in advance for help!
danieleOn Toshiba support page you can find W2000 drivers for this notebook model. I presume there should not be problems at all.
Check the support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads. There you can find all you need. -

Is it possible to charge Ipod5G in Windows 2000 after ejecting from Itunes?
Is it possible to charge Ipod5G in Windows 2000 after ejecting from Itunes? but keeping it connected? I'm using a fairly powerful and new computer at work...loaded with Win2K (2000), and for some reason it doesnt want to charge once I've ejected it from Itunes.
My home computer with Windows XP works fine with this, I can eject, but keep it connected so it charges while i watch videos, or listen to music.
Can anyone help?
also...the computer at work does have USB 2, and can charge properly...but only if the ipods screen says "DO NOT DISCONNECT"
Thanks folks!I have the same problem and the cause is with Windows 2000. My pc has USB 2.0 and no hardware problems either with the computer, ipod or cables. Basically Windows seems to be shutting down the power for the USB port as soon as Itunes completes its update every time. So the ipod gets a charge for a minute or two and that's it.
I have just been using another pc for the charge which is annoying - haven't found a solution yet although fiddling with the settings so that itunes is only started up manually may be a good workaround.
Other people have had the same problem in Win 2k with other models -

Error while Installing Oracle 8i on windows 2000 box
When trying to install the Oracle 8i software, I get the following error from the event log:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( PctSpk ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: PctSpk error: 1063, StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed..
If anyone have suggestions to solving my problems, please advise.
Note: I've started all possible services that I could think of.Definitely 8i won't work with windows vista. 10gR2 (10.2.0.1.0) was not certified to run against vista, Oracle had to release an specific 10.2.0.3.0 for Windows Vista. Previous releases are Not supported at all and there are no plans to support them.
If you are planning to use 8i on your Vista OS, it won't be possible, but you can create a Virtual Machine with a supported guest OS for 8i, Windows 2000 is certified for 8i, Windows XP is not supported for 8i, but I have been working with it for years without any issue (this is not a suggestion for production environments).

Correct ITunes version for Windows 2000 and Nano
My daughter just got a Nano for x-mas and is not recognized by old I-tunes software. I assume I need a newer version. However, 8.x that is advertised as latest version does not mention Windows 2000. I can't find any info on what version of ITunes I need or if there is one even compatible with both 2000 and the Nano. Can anyone tell me? I am incredibly frustrated by the lack of info on this and the lack of info in the user's manual. I see there are several different versions/generations of Nano, but have no idea how I am supposed to know what I have. I am not computer illiterate, but find this site poor at explaining questions like; how to tell what generation of Nano one owns, what version of I Tunes is necessary to synch with that version of Nanao, and is that version of ITunes compatible with ones operating system.
Can someone tell me what version of ITUNES I need (or if it is even possible)and where I can find it? Thank you if anyone can provide this info that Apple chooses not to make easily accessible. So does this mean the IPOD is useless unless I get a whole new operating system so I can get the latest ITUNES?
I also found a fact sheet about what to do to re-install USB drivers if the IPOD isn't recognized by the computer (which it isn't), followed the instructions and it still is not recognized! Is there a place those drivers can be downloaded so I could try something other than ITUNES for putting music on?
I still contend that MAC does a horrible job of explaining these issues to people when they are buying. I've spent about 4 hours looking at help pages and have yet to see one that mentions minimum system requirements (ie Windows 2000 is not supported) and what, if anything can be done about it. I spent about a half hour trying to locate an e-mail help/customer service address to ask these questions and let them know about my frustration, but all I could find was the phone number, for which I only get one call! I don't have time to spend this much time trying to track this info down. My first computer was a MAC and talked for years about how great they were, but this lack of easy access to basic info/customer service has soured me on them. Sorry about the rant. Thanks for any help. While I am not a computer nerd, I work with them enough to know how to get around. -
Installing j2sdk1.4.1_02 on Windows 2000
I just downloaded and installed the sdk on a new Windows 2000 machine.
I can execute a program from the command line (java MyProgram) ok. However I can not compile one (javac MyProgram).
When I attempt to compile I get a pop up with the following three line message:
javac.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.
In looking at the windows event logs I can find no reference to this problem. Does anybody know what other logs this problemn might have been written to?
restarting just ends up giving me the same pop up.
reinstalling didn't help either.
I then installed Visual Cafe Version 3c and attemprted to run it. On launch of Visual Cafe the same pop up occurs.
Anybody have any ideas? Both ClassPath and Path look good.
I did download Netscape7 earlier. Is there a possible conflict here with its Java plug-in?got javac to work redownloaded the SDK and then reinstalled it. There was a 2k difference in the javac.exe files between the two downloads so some how I corrupted the first one.

Hi all,
I am receiving a error when running a projector on Windows
2000.
"Unable to locate DLL. The dynamic link library gdiplus.dll
could not be found.."
I have authored the project on macintel, and downloaded and
installed the latest mac hot fix for D11.
Is this a problem with authoring on macintel? Is Win2000
supported by D11. I have found docs
in the developer center saying it is and in other areas on
the website the playback requirements do not mention
win2000.
Has anyone else had this problem? To sum it up..
Director MX04 was built with win9x playback support in mind.
Dir11 was built
for XP+.
Gdi+ is not a part of the standard 2000 installation, but is
probable to
find it on an OS machine - added during the installation of
some app.
So, if you found some docs that include w2k in the playback
compatibility
list, I guess that someone added it there without testing on
a clean 2K
installation. The official site, however, states XP SP2+ /
Vista, as minimum
OS.
http://www.adobe.com/products/director/systemreqs/
Btw, I also find dropping 2k support to be a bad move.
They could do it 'officially', to be on the safe side.
But losing 2k in order to use gdi+? And when already having
the image I/O
code from previous versions?
Necromanthus has good reason to ignore any machine that
doesn't have a
descent 3D card installed.
However, 3D/games is not the only thing that director can be
used for.
And having the companies with the machines you mentioned in
mind, I am
trying to retain 98/NT compatibility on certain apps I'm
building, whenever
possible.

Exception_access_violation error on Windows 2000 Professional
Hello,
I am developing a stand-alone Java application that runs without any problem on Windows 98, XP, and most 2000 and NT machines. On some Windows 2000 Professional machines, however, attempting to run the program generates the following error. Is there something about the configuration of these machines that needs to be adjusted to make the program work? The JRE (1.4) and program installation are done in exactly the same way in each case. The only variation seems to be in the version of the operating system.
Any help much appreciated. Best reply gets 4 DD's!
Thanks much,
David

NtfsServer problem on Windows 2000 Advanced Server
I've installed Oracle 8.1.6 and iFS 1.0 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Everything else seems to work fine with iFS, but the NtfsServer always fails to start up.
Is this a compatibility problem between Oracle and Windows 2000? I have no drive letter O: so it should be free for iFS to use.

Installation failure on Windows 2000
Hi, we've successfully installed Weblogic Server 5.1.0 (InstallShield
version) on a Windows 2000 Professional, but cannot get it to install on our
test server which is running Windows 2000 Server.
The installer goes through the motions of copying files but dies abruptly
with no error message before completing. In the end, we have a c:\weblogic
directory but no Start Menu entries. And uninstalling is impossible (we get
an error about a corrupt del.isu file).
The OS writes a message to the event log (included below). Somewhere in the
message is "access violation". What does this mean? The user doing the
installation is in the local Administrators group; installing this way has
worked on another computer running Windows 2000 Professional.
This particular machine is a Dell PowerEdge 2 CPU Pentium 866Mhz machine.
The other machine (on which the server installs properly) is a Dell
Dimension Pentium desktop.
