Trackpad acting weird after using mouse.

After an extended time using the mouse, my trackpad becomes, in a way, unresponsive.
If I hover the cursor above links, edge of windows or applications in the dock, my cursor stays as the same arrow and the link won't underline and applications on the dock won't show their names.
Also, when I move the mouse while using the trackpad, the cursor snaps back to where it was when using the mouse.
It isn't anything serious, but it's certainly an annoyance.
Thankyou.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Trackpad acting up after USB mouse use

I was using a wireless mouse to do homework and everything was fine. I left my computer alone for about an hour and when I came back, my cursor wouldn't move at all, with the mouse in or with just using my trackpad. Now, I have taken out the USB for the wireless mouse and my trackpad is sporadically moving around and barely responds to my touch at all. When it does respond, its movements are jerky and the cursor does not go where I am leading it. I have tried restarting the computer, turning off blue tooth and Airport, and I don't know what to do next. Everything was fine until I left the wireless mouse connected. I have used this mouse hundreds of times and it was fine. Please help!

  • Firefox acts weird after using WinSysClean

I used WinSysClean today and now firefox doesn't work anymore. I can't see most of the graphics and sites like gmail of facebook won't open properly. I have to click on the HTML version of gmail to see my inbox.
I don't know what I did wrong, but it doesn't go away, not even by a reboot or a system recovery

Using any sort of Registry Cleaner is strongly advised against. They can (as you have seen) cause issues on your computer ranging from the simple, like this, to major (disabling CD Drives, making computer unbootable), and the "benefits" they claim to provide are very questionable. I strongly recommend that you simply uninstall this and any other Registry cleaners, system optimizers, and use the built in Windows Utilities to speed your computer up (Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, etc.).
Then, after doing that, follow these steps:
First, try to reset Firefox. [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

  • HT203171 Only a small area on the right side of my magic trackpad is working after using a USB mouse temporarily.

I have been using my trackpad for several months with no issues. This week the bateries died and I had to use a USB mouse temporarely.
After installing the new bateries and connecting the trackpad only a portion on the right side of the trackpad is working (about 1 inch band from top to bottom).
Does anyone have a solution to recalibrate the trackpad?

    Hi:
I reported the issue last week.  I have no idea what in the world is going on with the support pages.
Right now none of them work!
Anyway, luckily the Spanish support page for your model works (when the general support site comes back up).
You should be able to figure out what driver you need for your USB3 controller...
Enter your model number on the english support site and then change the country at the bottom.
Don't bother trying the Australian or UK english sites because they don't work either.

  • Desktop acting weird when using External Monitor.

    Hey guys,
Just wondering if people have been having this weird "problem" when using an external monitor on OS X Mavericks. Though not really an issue that makes the OS/Mac usable, it's more of a quality of life thing (and it's really annoying for someone who likes things to be where I put them).
Anyways, the problem is that when I use my external monitor when at home, I have it set as the main display while the monitor on my MacBook Pro 15" acts as the extended/secondary monitor. No problems in functionality, BUT, the icons on my desktop always move while my external monitor is in use.
I usually do my work while using my external monitor and I use my desktop as my initial location to save my work files before moving them to an appropriate folder. However, revert back to not using the external monitor, everything just gets muddled up on top of eachother, stuff (sometimes) get missplaced and it just becomes a hassle to rearrange my desktop to how it was before.
tl:dr: desktop icons move when I use my external monitor as my main display.
So does anyone know if this is a problem that can be fixed, or is it an issue my monitor being a 3rd party model and old?

  • IMac G5 (without isight) acting weird after installing updates.

    Hello all,
My iMac G5 has started acting very strange the last week or so. I had not used the computer in a while (I have a laptop as well) but started using it again about a month ago. Since the computer had been off for so long I went ahead and downloaded all the new updates. I updated the OS to 10.4.11, updated Firefox, updated to iTunes 8, etc.. Everything was working fine for a day or two, until I shutdown the computer (as opposed to having it sleep). When I turned it on the next day, iTunes acted as though I had never opened the program, walking me through setting up my library and everything. This happened EVERY TIME I opened iTunes, even if I had just added all my songs. I suspected it was because I had my music on a desktop harddrive, so I moved it and re-imported, but it still happened. Then, 4 days ago, things got worse.
I logged on to my computer and everything had changed. My dock moved to the bottom, resized itself, and all the programs I had on it were removed. It's basically reverted back to the original lineup (finder, dashboard, mail, safari, ichat, addressbook, iTunes, iphoto, imovie, a transparent question mark, ical, quicktime, etc). The files on my desktop were gone. And, again, when I opened iTunes it was as though it had never been opened. I reset everything to the way it was and then shutdown. But it all gets set back EVERY TIME. It's as though I've logged into a different user, but I'm the only user on the computer. It is getting kind of frustrating having to reset everything.
Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas what is wrong? How I can fix it?

    Thanks for your reply Miriam,
Before you replied I opened disk utility and ran the Varify permissions, which found several amiss and corrected them. Then upon restart all of my preferences (background, dock, screensaver, etc.) were intact, so that seems to have fixed that issue.
However, now I still cannot open Firefox at all. In addition to updating OS X, I recently updated Firefox, so I thought perhaps there was an incompatibility between the two. I went to Mozilla's website and searched their support. They recommended checking firewalls, etc...which I did, and in doing so noticed something else odd. Everytime I open the Network section a pop up opens stating that my network settings have been changed by another program. When I try to click OK, the window disappears and then reappears. Because of this I am unable to quit System Preferences and have to Force Quit.
Meanwhile, my laptop notified me that there were software updates and I installed them. I noticed that they were the same 2 updates I had just made on my desktop...a Security Update, and a Java update for 10.5+. After these installing these updates, Firefox will not open on my laptop either! Could it be the Java update causing the problem with Firefox? Also, why did my desktop (which is running 10.4.11) prompt me up download a Java update meant for 10.5 and up?
Now, I know this probably isn't a problem with my Mac hardware or software, and most likely it is an issue to take up with Firefox, but I would still appreciate any input you may have. At this point I would be willing to shine it on and just use Safari, except all of my bookmarks are in Firefox. I do have them backed up, so if there is a way to convert or copy the bookmarks to Safari that would be wonderful. Any ideas?

  • Trackpad dead spots after using MoshiPalm Guard

Recently I am getting dead spots on the trackpad of my MacBook Pro 13in.
The spot is somewhere to the left of the center. When I circle my finger tip around that area, the cursor does not move.
What is even more puzzling is that if I first place my finger in the problem region, then drag it along the trackpad to another region on the trackpad, the problem temporarily escalates to that region as well. (So dragging your finger all over the trackpad starting from the problem region does not move the cursor a bit).
There seem to be occasions when the dead spot is not completely dead but just highly insensitive.
    I don't think it's a software problem.
Perhaps the Moshi Palm Guard/Trackpad skin is causing some conductivity issues?
I should say that the problems only appeared several weeks after I placed the Moshi Trackpad skin to protect the aluminum shell.
    Is anyone experiencing similar problems?
    Please help!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I would for sure say that the problem is the skin on the trackpad. In my opinion, you don't really need a skin for the glass trackpads. They don't wear like the older ones do and leave a big shiny area. Try using your trackpad without the skin for a day or so and see if it works normally.

  • MBP Mid 2010 Trackpad acting up after installation of Yosemite.

I recently Installed Yosemite and after installation my built-in trackpad now acts erratically. This include causing cursor to travel in directions that are in no way similar to gesture. Also clicking on words and showing def without being prompted to. Random gestures at random times.

In the Hardware section of the navigation panel on the left, look at "Power" then look at  "health information": give us the 'Cycle Count' and "Condition".

  • Audio over bluetooth behaves weird after using Siri on iOS 7

iOS 7 changed the behavior of audio play through bluetooth after Siri is invoked, I was hoping that 7.1 would fix this issue but that hasn't been the case.
While playing audio through bluetooth (either through Music app, Podcasts, Pandora, etc) if Siri is invoked for ANY command the following happens:
Siri interrupts music as expected, command(s) is given to Siri, Siri performs command (be it read text, dial a number, answer question about weather, anything), Siri exits, music comes back on but with different sound quality (almost like it was part of a phone call), 20seconds later music stops. The music playing app wil still be running, the track progress continues, but no audio comes out of car speakers. Only way to resume is to quit app, restart the app, and select play -- everything goes back to normal after that (well, untill Siri is used again).
This behavior is making using the iPhone in my car for music and navigation almost more work than it's worth. Does anyone have a clue what is going on here? Is this an issue that Apple would have to resolve in a future update? Everything worked as spected in iOS 6.
My wife and I have two 2011 VW Jetta wagons, I use a 5s and she has a 5c, and both phones have the latest released iO -- the issue presents the same on both cars.

Sometimes what happens next is (this doesn't always happen) after I say "Give me directions", Siri will say "Ok, getting directions."  Then the lockscreen appears.  If you don't put in your code the directions never start.  Since the phone was in my pocket I didn't realize this.  There was no way for me to know that Siri was not navigating me since the phone was in my pocket.
EDIT: The above behavior only happens when asking for walking directions.  It happens if you say "Give me walking directions", or if you say "give me directions" and your default method of directions is set to walking directions in maps settings.

  • T510 acting weird after unclean shutdowns (BIOS bug?)

From time to time I have to do unclean system shutdowns (press and hold the power button). When this happens, my T510 often (not always) won't boot on the first try afterwards. Sometimes it just sits at the Lenovo screen, other times I get a "disk error" (or similar). However, subsequent boots always succeed.
Is this caused by some kind of memory corruption? A hardware or BIOS issue?

  • Mac acting weird after download.

I recently installed a plugin from a somewhat sketchy site and my mac has since been acting odd. On startup the finder bar did not appear for a few minutes (this has never happened before) and my Safari is running slower than usual. In addition, it's taking longer for icons and applications to load up right when I turn on my computer, again something that has not happened before.
I did several scans with Sophos, found nothing, and uninstalled it. Would removing the downloaded plugin pack fix my problem or is that not how these things work?
    Thanks for the help.

Since the problems didn't start until you downloaded "sketchy" software, then I would say there is no doubt that it is what is causing your issues. Remove it....as soon as possible. And if you want your Mac to continue to function well, I would suggest not downloading anything that you have any doubts about....

Apparently, more than a few users are experiencing lags with iOS7, thanks to the added goodies. It's not possible to uninstall iOS7. The only thing is to disable the most intensive parts of iOS7 - the parts that you weren't using before, anyway:
