Trackpad always clicking

I have an "old" Macbook 13'' (2007) and i'm experiencing a trackpad problem: my mac behaves as if i was always pushing down the trackpad button.
In this way i drag what i don't want to drag, i select what i don't want to select, etc., and it's impossible to use my mac at all.
I have had this problem before, but it stopped after a few minutes. Now I'm stuck.
I have OS 10.6.8, updated firmwares. I just resetted the pram.
I suspect it's an hardware problem.
Using a mouse won't help since there is no "Ignoring trackpad when mouse is present" option in my preference pan.
Please help: for my purpouses deactivating the trackpad and using the mouse would be enough.

I found the ""Ignoring trackpad when mouse is present" option in the  "Universal Access" tab of the preference pan.
I still can't use the trackpad, so i'm looking for suggestions to solve my problem.

Are you sure it is a 4G iPod?  Does it have a camera?

I have Photoshop CS5, and use windows XP. I cannot open bridge from photoshop, which I have done for years.  When I am in Photoshop, when it opens, I always click on the bridge icon at the bottom of the screen and it puts me into bridge. This is not happening, the small wheel at the bottom of the screen just keeps spinning. Its like its stuck or caught in a loop. I can't get into bridge. I tried shutting down and starting up again but  the problem remains. Looking for help.  Dan

Thanks for your response, I was able to open bridge from File-Browse in Bridge.  This worked, but was not able to go back to the way I always opened Bridge.  At least I could get to Bridge and go into Camera Raw. I never tried to open Bridge from the Start menu.  The odd thing about this is, it has happened before, and to get it "unstuck" and working again, I would shut down and restart again in a few minutes, and things would go back to normal.  This time it did not go back to normal after several attempts.  I shut down for about 3-4 hours, restarted, and it seems to be back to normal again. I am not sure if it's a problem that is getting worse each time it happens.       And yes I am using Mini Bridge in photoshop CS5.  Thank you for your help.  Dan

  • My trackpad right click is'nt working?

This happened suddenly and without my disabling it. I have checked apple/preferemces/trackpad and the secondary box is ticked. Can anyone help?

System Preferences > Trackpad > Point & Click > Secondary click
Make sure that it is enabled. Click the down arrow for options.

  • My trackpad is clicking on it's own.  How do I fix this?

When operating my Mac Air, the trackpad will click on it's own, highlighting text and "right" clicking without me performing those commands.  It will also select and drag objects around the screen.  I've unchecked all of the point and click functions as well as the scroll and zoom options, but my problem remains.
    Please help!

Go step by step and test.
    1. Restart
    2. Shut down the computer.
Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.
System Preferences > Point & Click
Try turning off three finger dragging and then turning it on after  testing.
    3. Is there any Bluetooth device nearby with failing batteries? If so, replace the batteries.
       4. Reset PRAM:   http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
    5. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    6. Close all windows and quit all applications.
Click the spotlight -the magnifying glass icon- in the menu bar. Enter Disk utility in the box.
Select Disk Utility from the drop down. When the Disk utility window opens up,
select  Macintosh HD, then First Aid.
         Click Repair Disk Permissions button.
         Ignore the  time remaining estimate.
Last 1 minute may take longer.
If this does not solve the problem, you may have to take the computer to the Apple store
    to have it checked out.
    Best.

  • Trackpad stopped clicking - MacBook Pro 2010

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my Macbook Pro... I was working on some designs last night when all of a sudden the trackpad stopped clicking/responding. Even the movement is random and unresponsive.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem and whether there is a solution...  I have a USB keyboard and a magic mouse... but that kinda takes away the point of having a portable machine.
    Thanks for any help

It does say that my battery needs servicing... Was going to buy one as I have updated the RAM from 4GB to 8GB.
Wasnt sure if the Genius Bar would help me having upgrading the RAM...
There was a note that the battery may have swelled and pressed underneath the trackpad.
I have left the laptop off over night (to let the battery cool down) and still the trackpad wouldnt click...

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

When I first started using Collections, I followed someone's advice and always clicked 'create virtual copy' -- so I now have a huge number of unused/useless VCs that I would like to clear out. Is there any way to 1) filter to show all virtual copies that have not been changed (but keep the ones that I have edited or changed in any way, 2) delete the unchanged virtual copies but keep the collection that holds them intact? I can picture a work-around for the second part by color coding all the unused VCs along with their original, deleting the unedited VCs, going to the folder and selecting all the colored originals, dragging them to the colection and then removing the color lable. Cumbersome, but doable.

Umm no not that i remember. It just randomly started happening. I reformatted the hard drive for mac (journaled) but it was working fine since i did it until now

  • My Macbooks trackpad dosent click on the home screen or anywhere else.

My MacBooks trackpad dosent click anything on the home screen it can only move.
I've rebooted it once but the same thing happens. Can anyone please please help!!!!!!!!

This happened to me recently and it was because my battery was swollen.  I called Apple Care and it was out of warranty so they said I had to purchase a new battery, but if you plead your case and ask them to make an exception they just might!  They did for me!  They had told me they only replace for free if the battery is so swollen that it gets stuck in there, but they would have you take it to a Service Center to have it looked at.  I plead my case and they made an exception for me.  It never hurts to ask!

  • What happened to the icon of the "house"? After searching the web or checking my e-mail I could alway click on the house to return to my home page. Now I have to keep clicking the back arrow or enter my home page on my google search.

    Question
What happened to the icon of the "house"? After searching the web or checking my e-mail I could alway click on the house to return to my home page. Now I have to keep clicking the back arrow or enter my home page on my google search. edit

The home button has by default moved to the right hand edge of the navigation toolbar. You can move it back by right-clicking on a toolbar, choose customize to open the customize toolbar window, then with that window on display you can drag and drop icons to move them.
If the home icon is not at the right end of the navigation toolbar, use the procedures in the following link to restore it - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Back+and+forward+or+other+toolbar+items+are+missing

  • Trackpad will click and select but will not move cursor

After breaking the trackpad in my early 2008 MBP I replaced it.
Upon startup the trackpad will click and select but will not move cursor... I have tried all system resets short of wiping and reinstalling OS.
    Any suggestions?

Because the click has to deal with a physical button press while the movement has to deal with the trackpad detecting the movement of your finger on it.
Just for giggles, if you hold down the Option key on bootup and get to the boot menu on it, does the mouse work then?  If so, then it's an OS issue (could be a setting or some .plist that's jacked up.

  • After 10.9.3 update MacBook Air 11" trackpad secondary click won't respond at all?

    Hello!
I updated to 10.9.3 earlier this week on my MacBook Air 11" and things were running smoothly but then this morning I was cleaning up my bookmark folders and tried to use the secondary click on my trackpad (right-click, which is set to the bottom of the trackpad) it would not respond. I closed out of what I was doing and I tried to close applications on the dock using the secondary click method as I have in the past and it just does not respond.
I made sure I had it selected in system preferences as the method to use on the track pad after check it out in different applications. Unselected it reselected it. No change.
This macbook had been restarted a couple of times since the update too.
I don't get how it will work and then not work. So lame.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

The full release of 10.9.3 is available from App Store now. You can re download the full version from your Purchase tab in App Store. After download there will be Install OSX Maverics in Applications folder. Before installing OSX on top of the one on your system, copy the a install aoSX Mavericks to your external drive or any location. You can copy it to Applications folder for reinstall after that if you want.
The new download will be 10.9.3. Before doing so, please try to boot into safe boot, by holding shift key and power on. Try your secondary mouse click to see if it work. If it is the same, then it will be driver corruption, try reinstall will help.

  • OSX Release 10.4.7 and PB 12" Trackpad (right click)

Alright, I'm absolutely mystified by this. All the Macbooks and Macbook Pros have this wonderful feature whereby pressing two fingers to the trackpad and clicking brings up a "right click". Up until release 10.4.7, this was only on the 17" Mackbook Pro (and perhaps the Macbooks), but with release 10.4.7, all the Intel based Apple laptops have this as an option.
Here's the mystery of it, why on earth can Apple not make this available for 2005+ PPC Powerbooks??? These models already support the two finger scroll out of the box. The trackpads are already sensing two finger touches. What is the difficulty with having the two finger sense plus a "click" from the trackpad register as a 'right click'?
Third party utilities (iScroll2, Sidetrack, etc.) either don't support the 2005+ PPC Powerbooks or require a "hot corner" assignment which I find cludgey. I've tried installing every single one out there and none of them resolve this issue.
Is there any workable solution to this? I use right click all the time and find the CTRL+click tedious and archaic.
    Powerbook G4 12" 1.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

There seemed to be an issue with my wireless mouse that was causing the issue with my OS. I unplugged my usb hub, and it worked again.

  • HT3964 I am having trackpad issues, if I do a hardware reset could it fix them? My trackpad is always clicked and is deleting emails it should not be ect.

    Any ideas?

Oh boy! Acting kind of weird seems to be an understatement, aquaequus!
What type of troubleshooting were we able to do with you? I want to make sure that we can get some sort of resolution for this problem.
It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.
