Trackpad and audio

i reinstalled the operating system and now my trackpad and built-in audio aren't detected...i have to use an external mouse and i cant listen to music...also, I can't open files from my usb key...anyone know how I can fix these problems??

For anyone interested I have found a fix to this problem that works for windows 7 and 8.
1. Go to this link and it will automativally download the drivers for you. http://www.stuffedcow.net/files/CS4207_WinVista_Win7_32-64-bit_6-6001-1-30.zip
2. Unzip the zip file to a folder you'll remember
3. In Windows 8 press CMD+X (or Windows Key+X depending on your keyboard)
4. Go to Device Manager
5. Under Sound, video and game controllers you'll probably see two different "High Definition Audio Device" options. Right-Click on the first one and click Update Driver Software
6. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
7. Browse to the folder that you unziped the drivers (that you downloaded from the link above) and check "Include Subfolders" (if it already isn't).
8. Click "Next"
9. It will confirm that the new drivers have been installed, then ask to restart your computer.
10. Restart your computer
11. Enjoy your working sound!
If you have any questions let me know!
I didn't even need to restart and it worked!

  • Trackpad and trackpad button often unresponsive in Mavericks

This is an offshoot of discussion about a mouse right click not always working since upgrading to Mavericks.
I said using the trackpad and trackpad button on my MBP often doesn't effect the computer; I have to repeat those actions multiple times before anything happens.
Drew Reece offered some suggestions for my issues:
First, I came to Mavericks from Snow Leopard because I'd tried Lion and Mt. Lion but found my old laptop (early 2008 MBP v4.1) ran way, too slow.
Before going whole hog on Mavericks I read a lot, then installed it on an external drive (spinning, connected with FW800) and played with it for a few days.  I used Migration Assistant to make the move, which segregated software that was not compatible.  Mavericks was slow for a few days, but did gradually speed up.   However, that was when I first ran into the issue with the trackpad and button not registering with the computer's display.  I also ran into the problems with Mail not liking my 3 Gmail accounts but actually solved that using by booting in safe mode, thanks to another poster here.  Not sure why - I attributed it to Spotlight indexing the drive - everything about the computer was very slow and extremely funky while in safe mode; no way I would want to judge the OS based on performance during that boot.  It was awful.
I did update a lot of applications to Mavericks-ready versions while I was using 10.9 on that external drive.
When I felt comfortable, I wiped my NBP hard drive and did a clean install of Mavericks, followed by repeating the same software updates.  Then used Super Duper to just bring over User folders from that external drive.  Because SD restores the Spotlight state there was no "break-in" period so Mavericks ran reasonably fast right away.  I wasn't ready for iCloud deleting my Address Book data but, fortunately, I replaced everything from the external drive's Users/me/Library/Application Support/Address Book folder.
So, per Drew's suggestion, I ran EtreCheck:

I'll try to break down each of these sections & point out any bad signs below.
    Hopefully the color helps…

              SheepSystemsNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Red items are loaded at the system level
Blue items are loaded at the user level
The other stuff gets loaded into apps like Safari - they are internet plugins.
    Cleanup:
All the usual caveats apply, backup before you modify the system, delete the items (or move them to another disk or folder if you are worried about deleting the wrong thing) but ensure the originals are gone or updated.
Use the Finders "Go menu > Go to Folder…" to open the hidden ~/Library (your users library).
Reboot for the system changes to take effect.
    How to find updates:
The critical launchd jobs & kernel extensions use reverse domain notation e.g.
at.obdev.littlesnitchd.plist means look at http://obdev.at for 'LittleSnitch' updates
You want to try to update or remove all the system level items.
    Startup Items: Stored in /Library/StartupItems/
Startup Items have been discontinued by Apple since Mac OS 10.4. They are responsible for making changes at a system level. Remove them all or spend time ensuring ALL related software is up to date. You need a very good reason to have anything installed in here.
    Kernel Extensions: Stored in /Library/Extensions/
Kernel Extensions also load third party code, but they insert it into the 'core' of the OS. These can be safe, however you must ensure the related tools or apps are up to date, otherwise the system is basically built upon quicksand. Remove them all & see if the OS works better.
Your LittleSnitch is out of date for example, how about hardware monitor or Rogueamoeba's software?
    Launchd jobs: several types
    LaunchAgents          - Stored in /Library/LaunchAgents
    LaunchDaemons       - Stored in /Library/LaunchDaemons
User LaunchAgents   - Stored in ~/Library/LaunchAgents
These are all background jobs, they are not necessarily bad, but if they are loading old code it could be doing untold damage to the performance & stability of the entire OS. Focus on the System level jobs (the ones inside /Library - the system level) also remove ['failed'] jobs.
EtreCheck gives a status on launchd jobs…
    [loaded]                  - a running job
[not loaded]            - jobs that are set not to run, basically harmless, remove them unless you plan to use the associated software (if it is up to date)
[failed]                    - jobs in a crashed or unknown state, it could be forking processes or using all the system resources, remove these.
    User login items:
Applications and helpers that are managed inside 'Systems Preferences > Users and groups > Login Items tab'.
These are loaded at the 'User level', consider removing all of them whilst you troubleshoot.  When you decide to re-add them ensure the software is up to date.
    3rd Party Preference Panes: & Internet Plug-ins:
    /Library/PreferencePanes/ and ~/Library/PreferencePanes/
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
Once again these items all must be up to date, or remove them from your system. If the prefpanes manage additional software use the uninstaller or see the developers site for uninstall instructions.
Read the list of Internet plug-ins carefully, there are often duplicate Flash player versions that won't help stability, it's just wasted space too.
Don't forget to also update Safari's extensions in it's preferences (if you have any).
Re-run EtreCheck after cleaning up to see if items have returned (some apps will reload the background jobs when re-opened, so either update or remove the software).
Hope that isn't too daunting, the OS should be better if there are less old items running at the system level.

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

    At the PC end
1 PC running windows XP (home or Pro). THIS A MUST
The AIM Standalone Application, currently at ver. 5.9 at this link. AIM (the Site) now call this version Classic and it cannot be Installed On Vista
Note: there is also Trillian which has a Pro version for $25 that can also Video and Audio chat. The Basic version just Texts and Audio Chats (AIM does not Audio chat)
Some need the aimrtc12.exe file from Here Mostly Earlier than XP or Pre Service Pack 2 XP versions of Windows
Note: It has been noted that this file is now apparently included in Windows XP after Service Pack 2 and above.
An AIM account/screen name (AOL or Netscape count as well)
Service Pack 2 info. This info will allow the PC user to enable AIM thorough the XP Firewall. The Windows Firewall did not exist as such before this

This is an icon button lower right on the Buddy List marked "Prefs" (AIM 5.5). This leads to the Preferences. Drop down the list until you read Live Video. Click on this. In the new window that opens click the button that says Tuning Video and Audio. Follow the instructions in the wizard that opens up. Access in AIM 5.9 for this is in the My AIM menu at the top of the Buddy list and then Options
    To Start
You should now be able to chat to each other.
If each of you has a camera it can be full Video , as described in the Glossary at the top.
To start from the Mac end, select (highlight) your Buddy with one click. His camera icon should be dark. Click on the icon near his name or the one at the bottom of the Buddy List. (You do not have to start a text chat).
To start from the PC end you need to start a text chat, then select the Video icon at the bottom of the chat window.
If one of you has a camera and the other has a Mic then you will be able to chat One Way but have sound will be both ways.
To start this type of chat from the Mac end you will have to go to the menu item "Buddies" and drop down to the item "Invite to One Way Video Chat"
To start this from a PC follow the directions in the pargraph above. You may need to change the tab to the incoming Video at the back of the two to see the Video. These tabs are added when the Video chat starts and the front one normally states you do not have a camera and shows a connection to buy one.
It is also possible to chat One Way if the other person does not have a Mic: replies will have to be typed in a Text chat.
No Camera and No Mic will cause iChat to End the chat with "No Data Received for 10 Secs"
    Summary
For any sort of sound to a PC using AIM, (Talk in PC or Audio in iChat) the Mac will need a camera. The other person can have a Mic and then live chats with sound both ways and Pictures (Video) the other.
NOTE: At This Time It Is NOT Possible to Audio (sound only) between Mac & PC with AIM & iChat
Trillian Basic can Audio. Trillian Pro can Video and has a bigger picture and can do Full Screen.

  • Macbook Air Trackpad And Keyboard Unresponsive!! PLEASE HELP!

Hello everyone, a while ago (about 2 months) my Macbook air started having troubles with its trackpack and keyboard. At random times they would become unresponsive and just stop working. They would work for like 1 second when the computer turns on but then it would stop. A couple weeks ago the problem stopped occuring the keyboard and trackpad were working fine and dandy. Of course until last night, I open the computer and the trackpad and keyboard won't work.. The keyboard lights are on and the power button works but nothing else does it is extremely frustrating! I did an SMC reset which worked for like 5 minutes until it stopped working again. I have done a NVRAM reset nothing, I have done everything that I have seen but I need a fix for this! The mac is running OS X 10.9.3 and I am pretty sure that is the latest. Please help me guys I am really getting frustrated with this undying problem ;/

you don't need to disassemble your device.

I don't know how else to fix this issue. Please help I have tried all recovery options and erased everything on disk utility ( i saved my files first ) . for now i have been using an external mouse and keyboard. I also had the newest software update os x yosemite but when i re installed os x it installed lion but still the same problem.

finally its fixed!! ...i went on the mac osx hints site...someone suggested resetting the pram and pmu...i was worried i wouldn't be able to hit the key combinations because of the whole keyboard thing...but apparently, my keyboard still worked until it got into os x...so i reset the pmu with shift-option-control-power while the computer was off...and voila...problem solved!!

  • MPEG4 video from imovie is sluggish and audio out of sync

    Hi y'all,
I am new to this. So I need some hand holding here. I am working with video that was exported in MPEG4 video from imovie on a mac.
The Camera I used is a Sony FX7 HD camera with SD tape.
So Now I am trying to edit the video using Premiere Pro CS3 creative suite.
Import into CS3 is fine. Playing the imported video in the source monitor is fine as well. All looks well.
However, here are the challenges I am having:
    1. When I try to play it in the Program monitor its very sluggish. Audio plays fine but picture lags behind.
    2. And once I edit the the video and try to export it as flash video or as a windows media, the video and audio are out of sync.
The video is choppy as well.
Details: source video is 720x480 and trying to export to 320x240
    My project details are:
    DV-NTSC standard 48khz
    Video is 10 min long

OK, not my choice of workflows, but... I assume that the MP4's are H.264 encoded. There are many of these. Three common ones are Lead, MainConcept and Apple. Some find that one works better than the others. These are not the ONLY versions, but are common. You might want to explore others, depending on which one you have installed. G-Spot can tell you which you have.
Next, you can Render your Timeline, to get things as smooth as possible.
Note that the MP4 files are heavily compressed already. Quality has been lost, and there is nothing that can be done about that. When you Export to, say DVD, you will recompress that material, and loose even more.
In the future, have your Mac-person do the Capture to .MOV [Animation CODEC]. Or, do it yourself to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio.
Not sure of any other ways to get the MP4's playing more smoothly. Much will depend on both your CPU and on your system's I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, controller type and how they are utilized.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • New to iMovie, create live video and audio?

Hello, I am trying to create a video of a live musical performance to post on youtube and have figured out how to use the isight to get a video but can I use the biult in mics to record live audio with the video?

    Hello, Nateomite
As Karsten says, you will certainly get better results and much more convenience with a camcorder.
However, if you decide to use your MacBook, the built-in mic can record audio with your video:
in iChat: iChat > Video > Record Chat records both video and audio.
      in iMovie: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/7.0/en/10172.html
tells you how to record using your MacBook's built-in iSight (and mic.)
Other movie/video recording apps may work differently, but most allow sound with video.

  • Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro

I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.
I am filing a comment about this on Apple's feedback forum at www.apple.com/feedback at the advice of a Genius at the Apple Store at Cambridgeside in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.

  • I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the Component and Audio ports on my TV?

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • With newer MacBook Air, sending both video and audio to an LG TV works fine, but I want to send the audio to a sound bar attached to the TV.  Any way to do this?

I am trying to get audio to play through the soundbar attached to the TV for great sound.  Works fine with Apple TV, but on the MacBook Air, system preferences will only find the TV speakers.  If I change the settings on the TV to external speakers (the soundbar), then I get no sound at all.  The HDMI connection does what it is supposed to do, providing video and audio, but the audio can only go to the TV.  I don't know if you can go backward and send only video through HDMI and then connect to the soundbar through the mini jack ports on the computer and the soundbar.  Any solutions will be appreciated.

its important to do this in the correct order so the camera will be senced by the Mac and to prevent the Firewire connection from electrical damage:
    power down your Mac
connect firewire from camera to Mac
power on camera and insert tape in camera and play back
    power up Mac
    start QuickTime
File > Preferences > record tab
video source - select the camera you have
sound source - select the camera you have
    quality - select device native
the video should show in the QuicTime window
a  green line below video will show presence of sound-it will play through the speakers if they are selected in system prefernces
    rewind tape and playback
click on red button to start recording

  • Video and audio transmission from MacBook to TV

Since I really get mixed up with various posts about connecting MacBooks to a TV set I would love to get simple answers to the following questions:
How can I connect my MacBook to a TV so that I have video and audio rendering? My MacBook has a mini-DVi output, my TV set has VGA, HDMI, and audio inputs. Since to my knowledge HDI carries no audio signals I suspect that I need an extra audio connection. Is this true?

depending on your macbook model you may need a "converter", meritline.com/mini-hdmi-to-cvbs-converter-adapter---p-83103.aspx?source=fghdac& gclid=CO7J9NSU67QCFWGnPAodRBsAAw similar to this. Use a mini DVI to HDMI apple adaptor. if you have RGB connectors on your tv you want http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?seq=1&format=2&p_id=8125&CAWELAID= 1329456201&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CKW25beg67QCFaGPPAodRHAAfg

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.

  • Trackpad and Keyboard intermittent Freezing

My trackpad and keyboard are freezing at random intervals for random spans of time (usually for a few seconds). I havent downloaded any recent software that has cause this to my knowledge. Any help would be wonderful because even typing this is frustrating.

I just took delivery of a new MacBook a couple of days ago. When I started it up I let it restore all of my user files, applications, and everything from a Time Machine backup. That worked fine, but now Time Machine wants to perform the initial, lengthy backup on a new machine. I find that when that is running, the trackpad and keyboard both freeze and I can't do anything. Strangely, if I plug a Logitech travel mouse into one of the USB ports, that is able to drive the mouse cursor. The keyboard is still frozen until I turn the backup off though.
I'm going to plug the MacBook directly into the Time Capsule to get the backup to go faster, but I still wonder: is there a way to reduce the priority of the Time Machine process so I can use the MacBook while the backup is running?
